2023.06.02 13:35 Edv100 When your tech co-founder ghosts you. Seeking advice.

Hey there, hustlers. I thought I'd share a story that just happened to me, by asking your advice and potentially you helping me to understand what has happened.
Couple years ago, while traveling in Indonesia I met a guy, who was from the same small country in Europe as I am, who seemed like a genuine guy and who is a developer. We spent quite a bit of time and became I would say more or less friends. Since I work with business development and marketing and he does full stack development, he kinda mentioned to me that he want to build something together. Since he seemed a gunuine guy and a strong developer with over 10 years of experience and managing pretty big projects I thought that could be a good idea.
Some time after I got the idea of connecting AI + Dating, there are many advantages of this kinda app, won't go into detail but it was properly researched. When I presented that to him, he did like everything and we decided to move with it. He did mention that in like 3 weeks we could have the app up and running, at least for the MVP version and we did discuss that timing is important, so we should not waste it.
I was pretty excited about the opportunity, so started doing the work from my side, built branding, pitch deck, gathered lists of accurate influencers (hundreds of them), created approach strategies, extracted accurate VCs to target, found other people who wanted to help out, basically prepared all things neccesary for the soft launch and the fundraising part.
1 month have passed, there are not too many updates from the guy, the communication got slightly worse, he went to vacation with his girlfriend, then he got sick for a week, then he had a lot of other workd to do etc.
Now it's been nearly 3 months that have passed and he have ghosted me for 2 weeks straight, not replying, and not giving me any headsup if something is wrong, or if he does not want to continue or anything. Basically the last conversation that we had he mentioned that he got sick and he really wants to finish everything asap and will respond whenever he feels a bit better.
I was nothing but friendly in our conversations, even when he mentioned that he is being late for this and that reason, I do understand things change, some unexpected things occur and it's normal. But what is not normal, that he's ignoring me for weeks, and leaving me without a clue what's on his mind.
How do people act like that? Is he not man enough to tell if he changed his mind and I should move forward without him or what the hell might be going on in his head?

2023.06.02 13:31 NexexUmbraRs Construction update idea: Armory and expansion of storage

Reposting because a couple months have passed and I've seen discussion on it in other posts:
One of the main reasons for construction in the game is storing items. Everything from clue items, armor sets, to toys. But for a long time the skill has been completely lackluster and devoid of true purpose in this game. Short of a rework which I hope will be included in the 2022 roadmap, I would like to see an update similar to how the aquarium was released, but with more use for storage. Many of you may think that we have enough bank space to play the game and you're right, but the use of more storage will be to give collectors, the feeling you get when you complete an achievement. Every time one of these POH storage boxes gets filled it gives a little shot of dopamine, adding more is good for the game and good for the players who are always seeking more sources for their addiction.
I am of the opinion that there should be an update to the current POH to include many new items. And if possible also create two new rooms, one called 'Armory' which would store many items that aren't really costumes, and display hall, which would be a rework of the current skill/quest halls to allow more storage per square room. This would allow us to collect many more cosmetics that are untradable, and even some that are tradable and we'd just like them not to take up our bank space.
Before any of that though some things a little out of date, for examples;-The cape rack doesn't include the new Zuk capes, it'd be nice if it included 1 of each type IN ADDITION to the kiln capes (so you can have both and not either or)-In the armor case we are unable to store different sets of castle wars armour. We should be given space to store one of each set.-Similarly it'd be nice to be able to store one of each team cape rather than just a single one.-The clue tab is lacking all the clue rewards, namely the 3a/2nd age items.-You cannot store both pants and skirts
Moving onto the armory here's a small compellation of items I have off the top of my head that we have little to no use for in an end game's bank but would be fun to collect.
Weapons rack:
Armor case:
Other random items:
Finally I think it'd be amazing if we could have a display hall. These can be single rooms chained together to make a hall displaying many things in the game, from armor sets (for example the wilderness armor), to heads mounted on the wall (the skill hall/quest hall aren't really enough to display everything.
Extra idea from u/ J00stie to allow us to store partial set pieces rather than require the entire set.And to build off of his idea it'd be nice to store multiples as well, so instead of having a giant clue tab taking up hundreds of spaces, you can just have them all in your poh.

2023.06.02 11:53 Erwinblackthorn Drawn Together: A Postmodernist Martyr Pt2

Part 1
All of these characters are things we see in both cartoons and reality TV shows. Spanky Ham is considered directly inspired by a cast member from The Real World: San Francisco called David Rainey, aka Puck, who was kicked out of the house for being so unruly, with moments like fighting with a guy who had AIDS over a jar of peanut butter. I know that it sounds like I made up that sentence, but that’s something that actually happened that contributed to him being kicked out of the house. He lives on in infamy as a pig who eats sausage and shits in a cantaloupe.
But to continue in this direction, the show is heavily inspired by “real” people from reality shows. I think the way David Rainey acts is real, since later interviews show him not changing one bit. But a lot of these people are, again, fitting an archetype. A cartoony archetype, if you will. Again, this is the irony of postmodernism where the style of content was changed and yet the way of handling characters remains the same.
It’s almost as if postmodernists don’t believe in their own skepticism and it’s just a pseudo-skeptical movement that still has to obey rules or something.
Modernist cartoons hold archetypes so that people can understand the symbolism, while postmodernist archetypes are used as a way to make it easier to reproduce the same content over and over again, and sell it over and over again. This mass production that causes reproduction is exactly what Drawn Together is making fun of by causing some of the worst characters out there to still relate to established archetypes by simply attaching to a role without the means of accomplishing the same goals. Superman is brave and is a hero through action. Captain Hero got his name by fucking a hero sandwitch. Both are aliens from another planet with super powers, but Captain Hero’s arch nemesis is called Scroto, who is an evil mastermind that tricks Hero into washing his dirty old man balls over and over again. Captain Hero isn’t actually a superhero by definition, just by identity and because he looks the part by appearance. Xandir isn’t really a video game character, he’s just meant to look like one, which also happens to make him look incredibly gay. Princess Clara acts like a princess, but not a Disney princess, even though she looks like a Disney one.
I guess we can say Spanky acts like a pig and looks like a pig, but more in how he is a pig as in a greedy, dirty, or unpleasant person.
The way postmodernism causes juxtaposition that works is by simply changing how things were in modernism and using some kind of word play or changing of meaning to cause a different result. It wouldn’t work if Princess Clara was a ball of light, and it wouldn’t work if Toot was a floating brown cloud of farts; even though these could be played on the names in a surreal way. Yes, Clara means bright and Toot is a word for fart, but these wouldn’t be related to a previous subject matter, which is where intertextuality kicks in to make the whole thing work.
Intertextuality is where one text works off of another text to create a different meaning. This is done through quotation, allusion, calque, plagiarism, translation, pastiche, or parody, or interconnections between similar or related works perceived by an audience. That might sound like a lot of jargon, but all that means is that stuff in postmodernism takes from something else during modernism or prior and works off of it so that the audience can relate to it. If I didn’t know of any of these cartoons and just saw a bunch of different characters in one house, I would think this is entirely stupid and random. But since I know about the history behind it all, and the show constantly reminds us that these are parodies with 4th wall breaks, we are able to see that there is a reason for the surreal nature.
Without intertextuality, the theme is reduced to nonsense. With intertextuality, the theme is… still nonsense but now we have an understanding as to what caused it to be made and what they’re referencing. Intertextuality is not exclusive to postmodernism, but the way postmodernism handles it causes this hyper reliance on intertextuality to have it be remotely relatable. This becomes a big problem for globalization because many people are unable to understand the references when they aren’t part of the culture or circle, which can create things to be very niche. That very thing is actually why so many people simply avoid video games, or video game based movies, or anime, or flash parodies about games or anime.
This is also the reason the skits from movie reviewers like everyone on Channel Awesome never really appeal to people, because there is so much requirement that’s put as a hurdle rather than a welcome mat. Jargon and special language is a big part of postmodernism because of the focus on personal interpretation. If the reader could easily understand the writer, the reader would know that the writer isn’t saying much, so the postmodernist writer relies on open interpretation to keep the work both vague and niche. In other words, the postmodernist is determined to keep out the plebs, the sheeple, and the fogeys. The people who don’t relate to the subject matter will show themselves out and there is no reason to try to appeal to everyone because the subject matter is designed to offend and reject.
There is something strange about the idea that they could combine cartoons with reality TV, because the main appeal of reality TV is to see a real person doing something. But to have a cartoon copy reality TV is almost like watching hentai: you get the same thing as the real thing, without having to look at actual humans, and there is more ability to fulfill fetishes you never knew you had. But I’m sure even the most aggressive hentai lovers can understand that it’s not for everyone and it’s an acquired taste. I’ve been trying to figure out who exactly watches cartoons and hentai, and after a 5 minute search, I realized that cartoons need a lot of dedication to art to be appreciated after the age of 13. Usually a person doesn’t care about an adult cartoon unless they plan to make one themselves or are simply unable to grow out of it.
That and apparently 10% of japanese people are schediaphiles, meaning they are sexually and romantically interested in anime characters.
I know this is weird for me to connect a weird fetishes to a cartoon featuring necrophilia, because the two have nothing to do with each other, but we can’t ignore the idea that people can be attracted to cartoon characters. For me, I appreciate the art of a lot of media, especially adult animation when it actually tries, like Duckman. But the part of Drawn Together I appreciate is how they play with our expectations concerning each of these types of characters.
Remember before when I said Wooldoor randomly has big titties and gets his shirt wet? This is put in the show as a joke, but also as a jab at people who try to sexualize stuff with rule 34. If it’s drawn, there’s porn of it, no matter what. This is mostly to please the people who are schediaphiles, which is a surprising number. A fun fact about them is that there was a survey done and the female hentai lovers had a surprising consensus when it comes to fearing abandonment. For a woman to demand a fake relationship with a fake character means that she’s demanding the lack of a child, and mostly because she doesn’t want that child to later leave her, or for the husband to leave her.
I think this plays a lot into why a show like this is quick to resort to nudity in practically every episode, as well as the fact that they can draw stuff and already kind of have to draw nudity just by outlining something. But then there is also this thing with reality TV where nudity is almost a requirement. There are dating shows like Flavor of Love that has every chick whore themselves out so they can date a guy that looks like that Uruk-hai that Aragon beheaded. They’ll have them hang out at pools and do sexy dances, they’ll be jerking each other off in the shower, and then we’re supposed to care about who the guy choses at the end of an episode. It’s like Hell’s Kitchen but if people tried to stay in the game by unzipping his dungarees and giving his London broil a good shellacking.
I feel like Drawn Together wanted to do this, but couldn’t really afford to remove contestants every episode like Total Drama Island, so they decided to transition the plot structure to more typical sitcom fashion. We get episodes like where the cast turns into babies and do the same disgusting behavior but as babies. We get episodes where Toot has to go back to fat camp to do a reunion dance and tricks Zandir into joining her by finding cheat codes to control him. There are Transformers parodies, care bears, cabbage patch, Nesquik, Uncle Ben, there’s an episode where survivor is played with, there’s Fat Albert and Archie comic types of characters.
The show is a perfect breeding ground for making fun of basically anything drawn, which is crazy to think about because that should bring about Family Guy level of survivability. Just make fun of a cartoon and the episode is done. But, sadly, it was canceled after 2 seasons and didn’t get a chance to really spread its wings. It was deemed too offensive to continue. Advertisers and morality groups rejected it, caused it to lack profitability, and the network threw it in the trash. If the show survived to this decade, it would be canceled anyway.
Strangely, the show is so postmodernist in how it doesn’t care about anything that it can’t survive in the current postmodernist era of being hyper offended. Because postmodernism relies on subjectivity, companies can now subjectively be offended at anything, even though these companies are more than happy to pretend they stand for the LGBT or even women entering porno. There is stuff that should cancel these advertisers and morality groups, yet they are the ones doing the canceling. This is why I call the show a martyr.
It died for the freedom of being able to offend and all that happened is that the network it was on went more woke and the online environment makes it so that it can’t really be talked about. But somehow, paramount plus happily tries to advertise it. This is the company that owns nickelodeon and created that new Transformers show where the robot and a female human call themselves non-binary. This is the company that made a Blue’s Clues episode that features a drag queen singing about a pride parade. If anything, the show is only promoted on the streaming site because they want to make money from their enemies.
It just doesn’t make sense to me that a company will get more offended and advocate harder for the woke, but then happily promote one of the most offensive cartoons out there. That is, unless there’s money involved. So at the end of this long dive into Drawn Together, without talking much about what exactly happens in the show, we can conclude that the show died for our sins… just to be used by a company as a means of making money from their enemies. They wouldn’t dare make another show like it, because that would be against the woke agenda, which is weird since the show already features black and gay people.
A big problem for a lot of people to recognize is the difference between how the woke and postmodernists represent groups. The postmodernist will represent it because it’s trying to subvert things in a deconstruction way. The woke will represent as a quota and as a requirement for only particular groups. In other words, a postmodernist has no problem making a white black panther, while the woke will try to kill anyone who even thinks of committing such a haram act. Sadly, the inability for the postmodernist to care and to hold a standard is what caused everything to turn woke in barely 20 years.
The show ended in 2007, during the time of South Park’s prime and Family Guy’s revival. Apparently, the only adult cartoons left are ones that rely on hyper violence and random netflix stuff like Big Mouth, which tries to desperately retain the postmodernist legacy without entering the woke territory. I don’t remember much from that show, but I’m pretty sure it failed. Now we have people begging for postmodernism because anything is better than the slop coming out these days.
Do I think Drawn Together is a good show? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
Who is it for? Well… because it’s a cartoon, it will relate heavily to those who would watch a cartoon to begin with. But the viewer must love offensive things, and I’m not sure if that’s a dying race these days or just a silent majority that’s hiding in plain sight.
So it’s not that postmodernism makes everything terrible, and it’s not that subversion and intertextuality causes me to hate postmodernism. I simply hate the fact that postmodernism leads itself towards the woke. It creates this personal language that causes people to speak past each other and never even try to relate with each other, adding jargon on top of jargon. It’s too alienating, with the woke becoming increasingly divisive as time goes on, and as their agenda gets more rabid. We can’t enjoy a simple kid’s show without seeing their agenda in full force, because the animation department decided to get a bunch of diversity hires. I mean, who else is going to be in their room drawing pictures over and over again for months on end?
I am just glad something like F is for Family was made before things got too crazy. Something as simple as a more hardcore version of King of the Hill is a breath of fresh air, and it has Drawn Together to thank for paving the way for that type of humor. Animated characters being sexual and disturbing is funny. Animated characters trying to be funny with their sexuality is disturbing. The woke will do everything in their power to say these are the same thing. They will beg you to believe them when they pretend to be postmodernist, because in a way they are. But always remember that the woke can’t be fully postmodernist in how they pretend to be, because they are forced to care and establish moral demands from others.
Drawn Together had black characters follow stereotypes, gay characters die a million times over, and all of the women are openly slimeballs. I feel like the show perfectly encapsulated how the woke would make media, but without it being tongue in cheek or satire. I’ve honestly had trouble finding a likeable character from all of these woke shows coming out, but I’m sure I would like it if the show made it known that these were parodies of something else. But by the end of it all, I think the best thing to do is to cherish Drawn Together for its sacrifice and hope that someday a media renaissance brings us another show like it.
That or for my satire of postmodernism to take off. That would be freakin’ sweet.

2023.06.02 11:32 mcm8279 [DS9 1x18 Reactions] INVERSE: "30 Years Ago, the Smartest Trek Show Took A Huge Risk/ "Tensions run high, but the brilliant and unique twist is that what appears to be an episode about a civil war turns into a detective story. All of this makes “Dramatis Personae” a fun, self-contained sci-fi story"

"However, for Deep Space Nine as a series, what this episode demonstrated was much more interesting."
Link:
https://www.inverse.com/culture/star-trek-deep-space-nine-dramatis-personae-30-year-anniversary
Quotes:
"[...]“Dramatis Personae” is not considered one of the great DS9 episodes, and many fans may not remember its significance. The premise involves the station’s crew having their personalities overridden by ancient telepathic imprints from a long-dead species called the Saltah'na. After a Klingon ship explodes near the station, a sole Klingon survivor beams and accidentally spreads the telepathic virus. But instead of picking up a nasty disease or a DNA-altering weapon, our heroes get roles and moods.
[...]
What “Dramatis Personae” did was way weider. Halfway through the episode, the audience still has no idea why the entire crew is acting bonkers, and most of the action plays out like a simmering mutiny. The first episode, “Emissary,” established tensions between the Bajorians who own the station and the Federation crew that help run it, and 18 episodes later, it looked like that uneasy alliance would boil over into a full-on battle. All the main characters turn into sneaky conspirators, trying to slyly figure out who’s on the side of Major Kira, and who will side with Commander Sisko. It feels like every character suddenly acts like they’re on a pirate ship or from the Mirror Universe.
Tensions run high, but the brilliant and unique twist is that what appears to be an episode about a civil war turns into a detective story. Because he’s a shapeshifter, Odo’s non-humanoid brain wasn’t affected by the Saltah’na’s telepathic signals. Only he can figure out what’s going on, but he’s in the dark like the audience, and it takes him more than half the episode to solve the mystery. It’s late in the game when Odo floats the possible explanation for everyone acting so violent and untrusting: the ancient conflict that destroyed the Saltah’na is playing out again, but with contemporary conflicts among the DS9 crew used to sow hatred and mistrust. Prejudices literally take on new forms.
All of this makes “Dramatis Personae” a fun, self-contained sci-fi story with a Twilight Zone-esque twist, but in the Trek tradition. However, for Deep Space Nine as a series, what this episode demonstrated was much more interesting.
Because only René Auberjonois is acting like his usual character, we got to see just how good the DS9 cast really was. From Avery Brooks playing Commander Sisko with an unhinged intensity, to Nana Visitor turning Major Kira into a ruthless mutineer, to Colm Meaney suggesting that Chief O’Brien might be a secret bigot, the actors played their regular characters convincingly, but through a cracked lens. This didn’t mean these bizzaro versions were straight-up evil, or chewing the scenery like Mirror Universe duplicates. Instead, because the other characters don’t immediately notice the changes, their slide into paranoia and cruelty is gradual.
The cast of Deep Space Nine proved they could play a wide range of emotions and points of view. As DS9 progressed, it became known for its hard-hitting political allegories and ambitious serialization, but its true brilliance was in its subtle characterizations. The people who lived on this station were multifaceted. And in this quiet, strange episode, made when these characters were still new, DS9 showed just what they — and their actors — were capable of."

2023.06.02 09:47 AdamTyski On the 1st of July this year, we will be releasing the prologue for PCVR

https://reddit.com/link/13y68r0/video/vb8rxd5p7k3b1/player
My name is Tomasz Majewski, and I am the CEO of Real Invented Studio, a company based in Dzierżoniów, Lower Silesia, Poland. Our firm specializes in creating VR applications and games.
On the 1st of July this year, we will be releasing the prologue for PCVR. I would like you to immerse yourselves with me in the story we are crafting, an adventure that will engross players worldwide during their gameplay in "The Riese Project".
If you haven't heard about the Riese complex, let me shed some light on its history. It is one of the most mysterious and largest projects constructed by the Third Reich during World War II in the Owl Mountains.
The complex is a network of underground cities dug into some of the hardest rocks in the world - gneiss rocks. Additionally, these areas are rich in rare elements such as uranium.
To this day, no one knows its intended purpose. Was it supposed to be Hitler's main headquarters, an ammunition depot, or were the Germans working on some super-secret weapon there? Virtually no documents have survived, and the mysteriousness of this facility is further emphasized by the fact that after the war, there were special units and secret agents in the Owl Mountains guarding something. But what exactly?
We are creating a game based on the history of this place. An ambitious and challenging game in which the player will have to use their head and intellect to put all puzzle pieces together to uncover the secret we discovered. It's a mix of escape room, Indiana Jones, and Uncharted. Lots of puzzles, but not obvious ones. We want to prepare the gameplay to such an extent that players get frustrated, take off their glasses and say: "I won't play this," but when they go to work or school, they will constantly think about how to solve a given puzzle and move forward.
In the game's prologue, which offers 3 to 5 hours of VR gameplay, we embody the character of Anna. We are thrown in at the deep end, right in the middle of the plot. From the start, the player must be very observant to find out: who they are, what they're doing here, what Anna is looking for, what she has found already, and what she might find next. And how to find out everything about our character and find your bearings in the middle of the story? We have prepared a real phone in the game with a full operating system. You have to listen to her hints but also "dig through" her phone where her messages, notes, photos, voice recordings are stored. The phone itself has many different additional features, including a camera needed to take photos in the game to save clues we find. Clues are hidden everywhere. This is just one of many "goodies" we are preparing for players.
In the full version of the game, we do not embody any character. We are writing the script so that everyone who puts on the glasses becomes the main character, so that they experience the adventure, the mystery, and can fully immerse themselves in it. We will also be shifting between two times - the present and World War II. At the moment, we have outlines for 40 chapters, which we will be developing.
Interestingly, the player's main base is a real location. It's the building "Szyprówka Chata pod Sową", which stands in Sokolec, near the Riese complex. As a curiosity, I'll tell you that before we started working on the game, the entire team actually stayed in this building and toured the Riese complex for three days. And we have transferred this building 1:1 into our game. The player will be able to physically travel to this place and see that this building truly exists. Of course, we are also scanning locations from the Riese complex. We're blending reality with fiction while paying attention to every detail.
We are creating the game in the UE5 engine. We are proud of what we have achieved, perhaps as the first in the world. Last month, we implemented technological solutions to VR like Lumen and Nanite - fully optimized. The graphic design and the story itself will ensure that players will delve into the world of The Riese Project.

2023.06.02 09:10 hayoonseo As a Korean-American, English subtitles on Kpop's variety content peeve me, using NCT127's Fill it Up as an extensive example

I'm Korean-American, but I'm not as fluent as my parents in Korean. I wouldn't consider myself to be on the level of natives at all, but I am conversational in it and can understand Korean more than I can speak it (vocabulary wise). That's also why I turn on English subs so I can understand some Korean vocab that I haven't heard of while listening. So while I guess I'm not the most 'suited' to be having gripes about this, it does get on my nerves often when I find certain nuances mistranslated and some sentences worded weirdly or connotatively different to the point it erases and lessens its original meaning and impact. Excuse me if I can't explain some things very well-- I don't have very broad English vocabulary either lol.
This has been peeving me for a while with other videos, but I got tired when I was re-watching NCT127's 'Fill it Up' variety content on Youtube. This isn't hate to any of the idols at all, nor the translators themselves. Just complaints and criticisms.
There's so many off translations (even slightly that kind of ruins the fun, meaning, and personality of the members as they talk) that I'll only be providing a few from the first 15 minutes of the first freaking episode. I think Going Seventeen's English subs do the best in providing somewhat accurate translations and making it humorous during actual funny moments with fun subs and no butchering of what the idols have said, so kudos to them. But what Going SVT team has done is what many others haven't, and that is one of my biggest complaints with other idols' variety subtitles. Humor doesn't translate well between languages and I know that, but I do think there's so many better ways jokes and sarcasm can be translated so that their meaning and connotation are carried over well without ruining the fun of it. Of course, 1-to-1 translations from language to language is hard since they're all so different, but regarding nuance and grammar structure, there is a way to go around that imo. There's only so much one can do with puns, but a lot of humor in simple Korean jokes (that don't require the audience to know the culture to understand!) are often translated stiffly or boringly.
For example, in the first episode of 'Fill it Up', Haechan is teasing Jungwoo, basically treating him and referring to him as a puppy while cooking (more specifically, calling Jungwoo his dog's name), saying (in puppy-talk) that he'll give him food soon. Jungwoo laughs/scoffs and says "킹받네?" which is Korean slang that roughly means "annoyed/pissed off". I do want to add that the question mark after 킹받네 isn't to allude to it being a question, it's more so that it can read like a joking "haha.. that kinda pisses me off?" way. This was taken directly from their video's K-subs. I do also wish English subs would take context and what is happening on screen with expressions and everything to translate but maybe I'm wishing for too much. Because in context with expressions and his joking tone added in, he would basically be saying "that pissed me off?" or more directly, "that makes me pissed off?". I get it, saying idols are 'pissed off' wouldn't do their image good. Still, they can say "that annoys me?" and achieve similar effect.
Meanwhile, the English subs proceed to say "It's making me upset".
Yes, this is probably a really 'small' difference, but when I first read the subs, I was confused. Especially since in that moment, a lot of audios are overlapping and members are talking at the same time, leading to multiple sub lines so there's confusion on what the hell Jungwoo is referring to by saying "it". It takes away his joke's humorous meaning and strips the attitude away, and while I know people who don't speak Korean can pick up on its humor through context and Jungwoo's tone of speech, the way the subs convey the slang is rigid and just ultimately too stuck-up. Jungwoo's saying it casually. It's slang. In what world does someone in a casual conversation with a friend, especially when joking around, say "It's making me upset"? It even lost that question mark that helped with the tone! It sounds freaking sophisticated compared to a friend jokingly saying to a friend "that kinda pissed me off?", especially given Haechan was talking to him like a puppy lol. I just wish translators in charge of English subs would put into consideration not only connotation and word choice, but the way the sentence is worded and how actual people in actual irl conversations would talk. It takes away so much of that idol's personality, tone, attitude, expression, everything. It doesn't necessarily give it a different meaning, but a lame one. Less entertaining for a variety show. That leads into my next point.
In English subs, I found that what the idols say is often made to be more weirdly formal and less casual than how they actually say it, making them sound stern/business-y/awkward. Like, no one talks like that in real convos? A lot of English subs in variety content make them sound sophisticated with one another and it's so weird to read because while the idols themselves can say something completely casually, the subs will make them sound proper and formal. It's awkward, because that's not how the members worded it at all. Grammar, sentence structure, word choice included. In interviews or other actual formal settings, I don't mind as much since it makes sense, but in variety? They're supposed to be looser, more fun, and adhere less to that pro/perfect standard since it's variety content for their fans, not an interview with a reporter. Having Eng subs that make the idols sound boring and like they're writing a research paper isn't the way to go about translating conversations guys...
There's lots of moments like these where conversations between NCT127's members or even all the members speaking at once are translated so stiffly and awkwardly in 'Fill it Up'.
At the 4:14 mark, the members are making a schedule of what to do on their two-day vacation. Haechan says "We'll eat lunch from 2 to 2:30". And I think Taeyong (correct me on this, his face wasn't shown when speaking) says, "??? 야 30분 점심은 좀 그렇지 않아?" which I would translate to, with nuance and everything included again, "Hey (야), isn't a 30-minute lunch a bit too short???" since in Korean, Taeyong doesn't actually say it's short explicitly, he says it like "don't you think it's a bit [short]?" with the 'short' omitted.
But that 1-to-1 translation is a bit weird and imo Eng translations should adhere to what sounds right in English (while keeping it accurate), so going with my rough translation would be better than the direct version. You can read Taeyong's tone in what I wrote without having to watch the video to hear him, right? Maybe laughing a little, being in disbelief, pointing out to Haechan that that's impossible, etc. That can all be alluded in what I translated. But what do we get in the actual English subs?
Haechan: "Let's have lunch from 2 or 2:30" (he did not say 'or' in Korean but we move on)
Taeyong: "That's too short"
That's it. End of story. I get this is being incredibly picky, but really? So much meaning was taken away from that sentence. Sure, it's one sentence out of a thousand in this video, but all the other lines are pretty much like this too. In the video, we can't even see his face as he says it and can only listen to his voice and tone. He laughs in the beginning a little bit while he says it but that's about as much context as we get. Just reading "That's too short" in comparison to "Hey, isn't a 30-minute lunch a bit too short???" is so off-putting and wipes out his attitude and personality that comes along with how he says it. Yes, subs can get long. Therefore you can shorten it without losing its tone and meaning. "Hey, isn't that a bit too short???" is still a lot better than "That's too short." and again, without the question mark. This happens in multiple occasions and I'll just spit out examples without going as in depth as I did with this one. Poor word choices leads to poor connotations, leading to the audience to not be able to empathize or understand properly what the idols mean.
7:23-- Jungwoo and Jaehyun making jokes about the chihuahua in front of them, saying it looks like it worked out and went to the gym because of how buff it is. By the way, this is supposed to be funny. At least it was to me, until I read the English subtitles.
Sounds too sophisticated for a joke. Like really, too sophisticated. Not even a "he's". It's "He has". Awkward, uptight, unfunny. Not to mention it completely omits "No, no, hyung!". Anyone can hear Jungwoo say 'something something hyung'. What's so wrong with putting it in subs? Anyway...
8:01-- Haechan, Doyoung, Johnny about to cook. Doyoung says to remove some of the ingredients because everyone doesn't eat that much. Haechan, on the other hand, wants the ingredients and reaches to get them. Haechan's supposed to be like "still~" in response to Doyoung (and you can hear it in his voice and see it on his expression). Not humor, but the way he expressed his disagreement gets lost in translation.
Yes. That was it. Just "Hey". I would understand if they at least put "Hey~" to follow in with Haechan's fluctuation of voice and tone. But no. Just "Hey".
9:15-- Mark helping Doyoung pour in sauce. Doyoung & Taeil tell Mark not to put in too much.
Makes Mark sound like he knows his stuff LMAO! He was actually being doubtful and questioning Taeil and Mark, but in Eng subs, it sounds like he's insisting it. And just seeing those two dialogues together without context is super super awkward. Taeil says "I don't think you need a lot", then right after, Mark says "But you should add a lot". Doesn't it sound off?
11:15-- Yuta playing with the dog and the dog is licking him/itself I can't really tell. This translation's kind of literal so it's a bit funny lol.
I shed a tear I think.
And there's so so so so so many more examples, but that would make the post way longer than it already is LMAO. So my thing is, I know translators work hard. It probably takes a long time and hell, they need to study up on inside jokes and such too. But man... I just wish it could be better. Maybe I'm being too picky and entitled as a Korean-speaker. But I also rely on English subtitles sometimes, and it's jarring to know idols are being translated so poorly like this on their own freaking shows. This is variety content. It's supposed to showcase idols' personalities and more casual sides of them as they interact with their fellow groupmates and play games and whatnot. Having the idols sound like robots and professional essay writers in subtitles aren't going to do anything for the English-speaking audience who want to see them for their personality, jokes, humor, so on. I do know that fans probably can just tell when subtitles aren't right and can know enough from the members' faces and actions for context, but it would be so much better to read accurate translations in real time and have a good laugh rather than having to interpret it correctly in their heads with only context clues given.
Languages are understandably hard to translate. There's no guarantee that everything gets translated correctly either. I know that. But there are so many work arounds that can cater to the English-speaking audience who know English slang, casual vocabulary, etc. English translators don't have to be 100% faithful to the Korean if it means changing it up to cater to the English audience for better understanding, but they can do it WHILE KEEPING IT ACCURATE AND IN CHARACTER! WITH CORRECT CONNOTATION! KEEPING THE NUANCES! But I do think translators work hard and I respect them. It just upsets me how it feels lazy and super unnatural, and I can't imagine how it would feel as a fan who doesn't speak Korean to read these kinds of subs. Maybe it's just me though.
TLDR: I am super super sorry for the long post. Basically, as a Korean-American who is semi-fluent in Korean but also relies on English subtitles sometimes, I am baffled by how off English subtitles are, especially in regards to nuance, sentence structure, connotations, word choices, and tone in Kpop groups' variety content. Variety content is supposed to be that. Variety. It's supposed to be fun. But more often than not, I see dialogue translated to sound like it came straight from a college research essay. The members sound sophisticated in English subtitles sometimes, and it just makes everything super awkward and just uptight. It doesn't sound like casual conversations at all, and rather takes away so much of the members' personalities and attitudes as they're speaking. It doesn't keep true to character, and it isn't even accurate. I do know 1-to-1 translations are hard between languages, but there are numerous work arounds to cater to audiences specific to those translated languages. It's just frustrating to see. But I do know translating work is hard and not everything can be perfect. I was watching NCT127's 'Fill it Up', which inspired this post, and noticed one too many differences from what they actually said and what the English subtitles said and drove me up the wall. Still, kudos to translators because I know it's a long process and there's not that many either. Just something I wish could be done better for not only NCT127, but a lot of other Kpop groups.

2023.06.02 08:05 nilnz Discussion on whether this sub needs to expand the list of post flairs. What other flairs do you think we need?

I wonder if the mods and other regulars in this subreddit think we need to expand the list of post flairs. The flairs make it easier to find posts. However there have been a few posts, mine included that have picked a flair just because we need to flair the post but it isn't indicative of the post. So this defeats the purpose of having a flair.
So this post is to start a discussion on this.
Could we share posts about chinese meals without specifically picking on one type of meat. A typical chinese meal usually features more than one protein type (fish, chicken, tofu, beef), a vegetable dish which sometimes has a protein cooked with it, a soup.
Flairs I think we need:

2023.06.02 07:29 Expert_Cauliflower32 You will hate this …

But I think it makes sense to assume that Ted dies in the final shot, when the camera zooms in and the soundtrack plays the (horrifying) opening sound of Flight Test by The Flaming Lips.
The superstitious have clues for that: Rebecca complains: ”Ted is not dead!“ and her mother doesn’t correctly set the English version of ”potato“ against the American one, but really just repeats one part. The Psychic was right about Rebecca becoming a mother (to Mathias‘ daughter). (The person who sold the ticket to the shite in nining armor had precognition, too. The stare was because of the blood that would cover his face only minutes after the encounter.) Nate did peddled back, but he said ”you two, good luck for the last time“. Which at least hints at their separation, but could also mean that Willis won’t have the happy marriage he would be craving for. Many people said they were surprised not to see Ted at the Stonehenge wedding apparently (from the look of Janes belly) more than half a year after Teds departure. He couldn’t make it. 😢
Of course this should be utterly wrong and I am happy to hear a perfectly logical rebuttal of my observations.

No, The Little Mermaid will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.

Currently, the only Fast and Furious film on HBO Max is the newest one: F9 (2021). When HBO Max soon rebrands to Max, it's likely the film will be dropped altogether since the focus will mainly be on Warner Bros. Discovery content. Fortunately, F9 has already found a new home on Peacock as of May 12. The Little Mermaid will likely be streaming first on Peacock after its time in theaters as well. Universal currently has a deal with the streaming platform to bring their movies to Peacock following their time in theaters.

Will The Little Mermaid Be Streaming On Peacock?

Cocaine Bear was released in theaters on Feb. 24 before joining the streaming platform on April 14 — a little over 45 days after its debut. If The Little Mermaid follows the same trajectory, it should come to Peacock by early July 2023.

However, other movies like Nope have taken a little longer to reach the streamer (more than 100 days, to be exact) so it’s best to take this estimate with a grain of salt.

Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.

2023.06.02 07:10 residentevilwithinme An expansion on my ideas

An expansion on my ideas
Bomb Disposal: The player equips a bomb suit and is sent into an area or building to defuse and dispose of a bomb, rather than the typical holding one button and defusing the bomb, the bomb will be either a set of wires or a code, which the player will receive which wires to cut, what the code is, or they will have to guess or retrieve it in a more interactive way
Detective: The player is sent to a crime scene where they retrieve DNA samples, discover clues, and figure out both the identity and whereabouts of the suspects. These cases could range from missing civilians, to murder scenes. Since this sounds incredibly boring to do by itself, this could transition into a raid of some sort to make it feel more interactive and fun, maybe there could be an aspect where you could use your data to strategize your attack, or something similar to that
K9’s: Idk why they haven’t thought about adding K9’s as companions but they can sniff out hideouts of suspects or civilians and lead the player to evidence, such as drugs or weapons with fingerprints
Crisis Negotiation: there is a multitude of ways to approach this, 1. They could make it so you can use voice chat to negotiate with hostiles, or 2. They could give different things to say in a list form, and picking the wrong one could end in consequences, kind of like a Detroit Become Human type interaction, this also seems boring, so there could be something to add to the threat of it, such as standoffs, and forcing hostages to shoot at you or something of the sort
As for a new location, i feel like a border of some sort would be interesting to handle, like a bomb threat or terrorist attack that you and your squad have to situate, saving civilians from flipped cars or cars on fire, a different way to save civilians would be refreshing
There should also be added destruction, where windows can be broken and entered, roofs can be climbed and entered from there somehow, would give the player more variety to enter areas rather than just going door to door clearing every room out
In my opinion, and this might be disagreed with, but on certain missions and maps there should be traps, such as explosive trip mines, it would add a layer to the realism and also give entering the building a tad bit more threat
I also have another idea but it’s very unlikely to be added and a little fucked up to even suggest so i will leave it on hold for now, but if there is any feedback or extensions to my ideas, please let me know, this game has great potential and i’d hate to see it die out to a lack of content, i will probably conjure up more ideas that i’d like to share with you all, the image below is of the bomb disposal suit i first mentioned

2023.06.02 05:07 BigfootSanta Running a long-term superhero campaign?

Hey!
I’m currently running a game of ICONS. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a much simpler (and slightly FATE-inspired) version of Mutants & Masterminds by the same creator. The premise of the campaign is that the heroes start as teenagers just discovering their powers, and then grow in power, personality, and age until they can handle city-wide/country-wide/cosmic threats and such. We’re currently on session 4, and I feel like I need some advice:
I plan on running this campaign for a while, 1-2 years, playing every week, probably. So far, every session has been a “villain of the week” type thing. But I’m realizing if I just keep using that same structure, it’ll quickly get stale. How do I keep things interesting in a genre that can feel formulaic? I love comic books, so I’ve considered just stealing whole plots from random issues I’m reading, but I don’t know how actually effective that is.
Also, I want to play up the “teen drama” aspect of it; relationship troubles, minimum wage jobs that interfere with superheroism, suspicious parents, and so on. Basically just all of the Ultimate Spider-Man comics but in a TTRPG. ICONS doesn’t really have mechanics for this besides Qualities, it’s definitely not Masks, but I still really want to figure out how to include them in the average session, maybe by having more downtime in-between the villain’s various crimes and clues.
I’m just worried that we’ll get bored or I’ll get burnout by doing the same thing over and over. I really want this campaign to have longevity.
Thanks!

2023.06.02 03:16 iatesandwich Homogenous ANA 1:640 (lupus?)

My recent blood work shows ANA 1:640 in in a homogenous pattern. Last time it said mitotic pattern 1:640 which i have no clue what that means. The ANA subsets like dsDNA always come back negative so wtf am i dealing with. I do have a hashimoto diagnosis so is that just it? I’m waiting for my doctor to look at my results but i’d love some speculation.
I also had a few different blood test related to arthritis and they all came back negative, i didn’t exactly expect that considering my joint pain and stiffness.
Unexpectedly, my creatinine came back high, so are my kidneys affected? the range says 0-200 and mine was 275.
My x rays also came back showing no signs of arthritis however there was an incidental finding of what the notes say looks like spina bifida located at S1 in my sacrum…lol
edit: female age 23 edit again: i’ve also been diagnosed with hyperkinetic gallbladder 99% ejection fraction of that makes a difference

2023.06.02 02:24 ParloruFragments298 PS5 no longer recognizing game disc?

I’ve had my ps5 since early 2020. One of the first games I got for it was Spider-Man: Miles Morales. I’ve been replaying it, and all of a sudden, the ps5 doesn’t seem to recognize the disc. It keeps giving me the standard “insert the disc” message even after I take it out, clean it for good measure, and put it back in.
What I think might be complicating things is the fact that my Spider-Man disc is for the ps4, and I’m trying to access the upgraded ps5 version that has always worked on the disc. Idk why it randomly decided that’s an issue, but it hasn’t been for the 3+ years I’ve owned the ps5. Any tips on what to do? I’ve restarted, powered down, everything— I have no clue what the problem is or how to fix it.

2023.06.02 01:35 someguynamedtommi Polo Red, A compliment beast.

I feel polo red is a fragrance that it is really hard to hate, everyone that i have showed it too either likes it or loves it. One time one of my close female friends bought it for her boyfriend after smelling it on me.
The scent itself it is a soft sweet citrus smell with a beautiful note of cranberry at the beginning and then it settles into a amber saffron cambo that is really nice and appealing to everyone. For my nose the coffee note is not that strong so it makes it really easy to wear. I think it is a year round fragrance but it really shines at fall and spring. It is a casual say to day fragrance.
The only drawback about Polo red is the performance and longevity, I usually get around 2 to 3 hours overall and projects for 15 minutes, Sadly the Intense version is really hard to find and I hope the EDP and Parfum follow this scent DNA and make it last longer.

2023.06.02 01:18 Glaurung_Quena The anime miniseries "Uchu no senshi" vs Verhoeven's Starship Troopers vs the Heinlein's novel

There was an anime direct to home video miniseries in 1988 based on Heinlein's "Starship Troopers," called "Uchu no senshi" (Soldiers of the universe). The six episodes were released on laserdisk and tape in Japan, and AFAIK, have never been reissued since. I have seen it only because of rips of the laserdisk with fan-translated subs available from torrent sites.
The anime series is OK but not great. It avoids all the (endless, very grumpy) lectures about politics in the original novel and just sticks to the story of Juan Rico, his romance with Carmencita, and the war against the Bugs. It also only covers the first third to half of the novel (Johnny graduates from boot camp at the start of episode 4 of 6). Naturally, since it's anime, the powered armour of the original novel is featured front and centre.
On watching the series, I noticed some odd parallels between how the Anime departs from the novel and how the Verhoeven Starship Troopers movie departs from the novel. Does it make sense to think that the scriptwriter (Neumeier) consulted the anime series to fill in his very careless and sloppy reading of the actual novel? Verhoeven cut out the powered armour of the novel completely, allegedly for budgetary reasons. Other than that, though:
1, Novel: Johnny Rico was active in track, swimming, and debate in high school. Anime: Juan Rico plays American football. Movie: Johnny Rico is a football player.
2, Novel: Rico knows a girl named Carmen but their friendship occupies a couple sentences. She visits him for a date in officer training school, but they aren't in love. Anime: Rico is head over heels for Carmencita, and this is front and centre. Movie: Rico and Carmen's relationship is front and centre.
3, Novel: Rico's family is rich, unlike his best friend, who is poor. Anime: everyone in his social circle is well to do. Movie: everyone owns all the toys and doesn't need to worry about money, in the usual Hollywood "everyone is upper middle class" way.
4, Novel: Rico is a Filipino whose native language is Tagalong (revealed on the last page). Anime: Rico is blonde and blue-eyed. His classmates are likewise mostly very white looking. Movie: Despite supposedly being located in Buenos Aires, all these supposed Latino characters look very Anglo, like they came from an upper class LA high school.
In other areas, the movie takes something partially developed in the anime and runs with it to a new, often quite foolish place.
5, Novel: Rico lives somewhere in a former colony of Spain, but not in the Western Hemisphere (if you pay close attention to the subtle clues sprinkled sparsely through the opening chapters). Anime: Rico lives somewhere where American football is popular, there are lots of people with Hispanic names, all the signage is in English, and the sun rises over the ocean. (Florida?, Texas? California in a retrograde version of Earth? Japan but with everyone mysteriously having Spanish names?). Movie: Rico lives in an Americanized, Anglicized, whitewashed version of Buenos Aires, because Neumeier did not actually read the novel with much attention and failed to realize that Rico's mother was travelling away from home when she died in the Bug attack on that city.
6, Novel: boot camp instructor Staff Sergeant Zim asks the new recruits if any of them can take him in a fight. When he then breaks the wrist of one of the recruits who fights him, he apologizes for it – “I’m sorry, you hurried me a little.” Anime: Zim hurts a recruit’s forearm, possibly on purpose, and says “go to the dispensary, it’s just a simple dislocation, you’ll be better in three hours.” Movie: Zim deliberately and with malice breaks of the arm of an already defeated man (movie Zim = sociopath).
7, Novel: Zim trains the recruits in knife throwing. A recruit asks why they are doing something so primitive when the enemy has nuclear bombs. Zim replies with two short lectures, one on how there is no such thing as a dangerous weapon, only a dangerous man, and second on how the military’s job is not to obliterate the enemy but to exert as much or as little violence against the enemy as the government desires. Anime: there's a severely condensed version of the first lecture about dangerous men. Movie: Zim doesn’t answer the question at all, he just stabs the recruit in the hand because sociopath.
Finally, there are a few places where the movie follows neither the anime nor the book.
8, Novel: Zim cares deeply for the welfare of his trainees, and this is explicitly conveyed through a lot of words. Anime: in the three episodes set in boot camp, Zim is harder and more cruel, but we are shown through his expressions that despite the mean exterior, he cares a great deal about the welfare of his trainees. Movie: Zim is a sociopath who goes out of his way to hurt his trainees.
9, Novel: Zim's cheeks are "shaved blue," so he’s pale skinned. No other description of his appearance is given. Anime: Zim is of African descent, and just about the only character depicted with non pale skin. Movie: Zim is a blond, Aryan looking white guy. (considering Hollywood's racist approach to casting, this is not surprising)
Looking at all of that together, I start wondering: could the script for the movie have been borrowing from the anime? If you've seen the anime yourself, please let me know your thoughts. If you haven't: it's six short episodes, and worth your time if you are a Heinlein completist.
(eta: fixed formatting, hopefully more readable now)

The new live-action 'The Little Mermaid' movie stars Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy. Make sure to keep on reading to learn where you can watch and stream it.
Folks, it's time to dive under the sea once again. Over the last few years, Disney has recreated their top animated musical films into live-action movies. The Little Mermaid is no different, and viewers can't wait to swim into theaters to catch a glimpse of how the movie will stand up against the original version.
Walt Disney Studios has established a remarkable trend of making live-action remakes of its classic stories. One after the other, all the fairytales of the past era are being brought to life by the studio in an attempt to tell the magical stories in a new light of living characters. With the live-action Peter Pan & Wendy due out in April, Disney will continue their string of live-action remakes a month later with The Little Mermaid.
Get ready to go "under the sea!" The latest of Disney's hugely successful line of live-action remakes, Ariel (Halle Bailey) is set to return to theaters for the first time in almost thirty-five years with The Little Mermaid (2023). The Walt Disney Company once again invites audiences to travel under the sea to see Princess Ariel's story unfold like never before. Featuring direction from veteran musical filmmaker Rob Marshall and other roles inhabited by major Hollywood stars like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch and Javier Bardem as King Triton, the film is bound to be a bona fide hit at the box office.
Though the upcoming and highly anticipated film will have stiff competition against two stand-up comedians on the weekend it releases, The Little Mermaid is destined to show that life is better down where it's wetter under the sea this Summer movie season. To find showtimes and streaming information on Disney's latest big-budget reimagining of an animated classic, here is where you can watch The Little Mermaid.
Actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, the iconic mermaid princess who longs to be part of the the mysteriously world housed above the ocean floor. When she saves the handsome Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) from a shipwreck, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) in order to gain human legs and go on land to impress him. But there's one catch to the transaction: Ariel must trade her voice in order for her to try and see the things she's after. But as fans of the original 1989 film know, this comes with a series of consequences that threaten both her existence and the lives of those she loves.
Before we ask if you're interested in seeing this, we know you are. But like us, you're probably wondering how to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online. Luckily, we have some clues and it's likely to land on a major streaming site very soon. So climb aboard, because here's where to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online.
What Is the Release Date for The Little Mermaid?
Ariel's quest to go from a mermaid into a human begins anew when The Little Mermaid premieres this Memorial Day Weekend on Friday, May 26th, 2023. The film will be going up against not one, but two stand-up comedians and their films that weekend, with Sebastian Maniscalco's About My Father and Bert Kreischer's The Machine premiering on the same day. That said, The Little Mermaid will almost certainly be the choice for younger audiences and families.
While some Disney films are heading straight to Disney+, The Little Mermaid will first be shown exclusively in theaters.
Where To Watch The Little Mermaid Online:
As of now, the only way to watch Fast X is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on May 26, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango.
Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free
Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+.
How to Watch The Little Mermaid
At the moment, you can watch The Little Mermaid at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future.
Like its predecessor, The Little Mermaid is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Little Mermaid is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see The Little Mermaid on Disney+ later this year too.
As for an exact release date for The Little Mermaid, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for The Little Mermaid, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September.
When the time comes for The Little Mermaid to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app.
As you wait for The Little Mermaid to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special The Little Mermaid Live!. Enjoy!
Will The Little Mermaid Be in Theaters or on Streaming?
Unlike several of Disney's other live-action remakes such as Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid will be exclusively in movie theaters first with tickets available for pre-sale now.
After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, the film will be released on the Disney+ streaming service. Based on Disney's past release models, the film won't be made available to stream before 45 to 90 days after its theatrical release.
When will The Little Mermaid be streaming on Disney+?
The Little Mermaid Disney+ premiere date is tentatively estimated to be August 30, 2023.
While no official Little Mermaid streaming date has been confirmed by Disney, most of its major movie releases drop on Disney+ following a minimum 90-day period, and typically premiere on the platform on Wednesdays, making Wednesday, August 30 the most likely date for Disney’s The Little Mermaid live-action streaming release.
Will The Little Mermaid Be Streaming On Disney+?
The 2023 version of The Little Mermaid will only be in theaters initially. After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, it is likely to stream on Disney Plus. You can also watch the animated version of Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale of Ariel on Disney Plus now.
While you will only be able to catch the new "The Little Mermaid" in theaters starting next Friday, you can still sign up for Disney+ now to refresh yourself on the characters, song, plot and magical fun from the highly anticipated film. The 1989 version of the movie was a catalyst for Disney's animation renaissance throughout the '90s and it still holds up today.
An ad-supported Disney+ subscription starts at $8 per month, but you can get an ad-free access to the service for $11 monthly or bundle the Disney streaming service with Hulu and ESPN+ starting at $13 per month. Disney+ boasts a huge collection of movies and television series, including Marvel and Star Wars content. If you add in Hulu and ESPN, you have nearly unlimited entertainment at your fingertips.
Is The Little Mermaid streaming on Netflix?
No, The Little Mermaid will not be on Netflix — at least not any time soon. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a movie theater or wait for it to become available to stream on Disney+.
Will The Little Mermaid Be On HBO Max?
No, The Little Mermaid will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Is The Little Mermaid Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie The Little Mermaid on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

There are a few ways to watch The Little Mermaid online in the U.S. You can use a streaming service such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. You can also rent or buy the movie on iTunes or Google Play. You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable.
The Little Mermaid Cast and Characters
The Little Mermaid was written by David Magee and directed by Rob Marshall. It stars the following actors:
What is The Little Mermaid About?
The official synopsis for The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Studios read:
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
There is not much mystery in The Little Mermaid's plot. As seen in Disney's many other live-action remakes, it is anticipated that the film's plot will largely stick to the original. With the well-known song "Part of Your World," in which Ariel sings about her wish to be a part of the world beyond the water, i.e., the human realm, the teaser already alluded to Ariel's fascination with the human world. Fans will get to see Ariel and Prince Eric's romance as they deal with the challenges posed by their differences.

2023.06.02 00:21 Ganbarisa Question about game promotion

Hey everyone. So, I haven't really programmed in three years, and I've decided to make a text-based management game about theme parks within Harlowe. However, it's turning out to be more work than I expected. So, I kind of just want to make it a hobby project of mine along the way.
The problem is that I've never really released a game before. Currently, I'm working towards a playable version. But once it's finished, I have no clue how to promote it and find people to playtest it. Does anyone here happen to know some other communities where I can ask around? I'll, of course, also post it here when it's ready. Would be much appreciated!
