2023.05.26 21:49 ASRandASR Speculation on potential Slowly new stamps for July + Statistics about June

A new June 2023 slowly stamps batch has just been released, and we can start counting the results of the post I made the last month.

How are the results going?

Not too good, we only got 22 new stamps, even less than May batch, which was a huge step back.

How many ideas became stamps?

In the post I considered 7 categories:

So the total is: 19 out of 152, 12% ↗
The feedback site includes also more premium stamp ideas, but there are so many ideas that I can't make a statistic about them. Even though it's important to remember the Slowly team released 3 premium stamps.

Is this a good result or not?

Well, I proposed 8 of these 22 stamps, so I'm quite satisfied. Even though the results are still very low, there have been a huge increase in proposal of new events and this explains why most of the new stamps are from this category. The categories we considered above mostly increased and non decreased, so the Slowly team is probably starting to take the ideas more into consideration though.
The total of ideas is still huge, they won't make 152 stamps each month of course, also because the ideas we make are not all good ones. But in my opinion I expected lots of more stamps. I'm happy for some great new stamps, but some of the best ideas weren't chosen unfortunately.

What's the best time to propose a stamp?

Let's see again this statistic!
5 stamps were proposed in 2022, 12 more were posted in of April (4 of them after my post on Reddit).
Obviously I only considered stamps specifically for June. What the best time to add such suggestions? Well, surprisingly this time was around April 25, exactly one month before the batch release.

What can we do now?

Let's wait for the next month!
I tried to arrange a list for the potential new entries, this is merely speculation, but some of these will become new stamps in July. So keep an eye on this subreddit if you would love to see one of the followings! The lists are subject to changes, feel free to comment or send me a DM if you find anything more.
Note: clicking on the links will brought you on the feedback site, to know more about those proposals!

Flags:

Commemorative free Regional possible releases:

Global, international day potential releases:

(feedback site doesn’t accept this kind of requests, but Slowly team is still releasing these stamps)

Locations stamps proposals for countries that currently have 0 stamps

(may come out in the future), you can also vote for them to make the Slowly team consider more these ideas:
There are also lots of great ideas for dependencies and territories, you can check them on the feedback site!

We could also see more European Castles, they could include:

Premium single stamps and achievements currently under review and in progress:

Premium sets under review and in progress:

$1410 Total
Section Five We’ve not taken a big trip to Mexico in 15 months and this year, this adventure will likely be our only. I lack precision when it comes to budgeting so vacations tend to come from a mixture of dipping into savings and pulling back on overpayments of the mortgage and car loan. Our finances are also in flux right now as my husband will typically give me a couple thousand pesos for expenses drawn from income from the restaurant we own in his village but we are currently undertaking a new commercial business so much of the restaurant income is being diverted to that.
Day 1, Providence => Cancun => Valladolid
The alarm goes off at the ungodly hour of 3:00 am and I am nervous as Lyft is showing limited availability, but a driver comes pretty quickly to take us on the eight-minute trip to the airport ($38, listed under transportation). We kiss the dog goodbye and explain to him that his bags are packed and his caregivers will pick him up mid-day.
On the plane, I am surprised by my period and need to buy pads, Tylenol, and a Sprite during our layover in Baltimore ($12). We then sit on the tarmac for two hours as husband (from here on, H.) gets increasingly more agitated due to the fact that we still have a 2.5-hour drive to the village after landing and my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday party is tonight.
We finally land and it takes longer than normal since they don’t allow me through the Mexican national line at immigration as they normally do, so back to the tourist line I go. My brother-in-law and nephew pick us up and we head south to grab a shortcut to the village. On the way, we stop at the Chedraui in Puerto Morelos for booze for the next two days ($128, H. pays), gas ($28, H. again), and then a snack of oranges and jicama from some children selling fruit on the way ($4, H.).
Our plans of resting a little before heading to the village are thwarted since we don’t get to Valladolid until about 6pm but our phones start blowing up to see when we will arrive at the party since the mariachis are getting impatient and we are technically the party hosts. We get dropped off to check into the hotel ($95 for two nights, accounted for under expenses), grab a quick meal of tacos at a super touristy restaurant since it is close and familiar ($43, H.), and then grab a taxi, paying the full fare for all passengers rather than waiting for two more people for a full ride ($4, H.). On the way, H. hires the driver to put down gravel in the restaurant parking lot and we get dropped off at our restaurant.
We are quickly greeted and ushered in as the mariachis are chomping at the bit to do their thing. Apparently, H. neglected to tell me that the theme is traditional clothing and I am the only one not wearing a huipil or embroidered blouse. I have plenty, so I could have had I known. Nobody cares though. I take a turn dancing with the birthday girl to “El Mariachi Loco,” eat some tacos de lechon (suckling pig), hydrate, and try to stay awake. The band starts playing and oh boy are they loud. I alternate between staring off into the middle distance since my head is now pounding, chit chatting, catching up, and trying to avoid a very drunk cousin.
Thankfully, the party winds down around 1:00am and I drive us back to the hotel to conk out.
Total: $12.
Day 2: Valladolid
H. is up and out the door around 8am to go get things going at the restaurant. He’s excited about the 6-year anniversary celebration planned today. I am pretty sure it isn’t six years, but nobody else is really a stickler for this type of detail. I sleep in until around 10:30 and head to the Rua Cafe for two iced lattes and molletes ($9.80). It is a cute little bougie café and indicative of how Valladolid is evolving. When I first lived in the village 25 years ago, there was only one place that served real coffee (always hot) rather than instant and now it seems there are cute cafes on every corner. The Tuluminati is definitely arriving and it is evident in the number of European tourists around. I spend some time chilling and reading on my Kindle since I know that more family fun is on deck.
I hit the OXXO convenience store to pick up water and chips ($3.20) and run into two very hungover cousins who are headed back to the restaurant for the day’s festivities. Then, back to the hotel with the plan of blasting the A/C and eating chips before getting ready. Before I make it to the room, one of H.’s best childhood friends pops out of a hotel room to greet me as apparently he works there.
H. comes back, we get ready, and drive to the restaurant. I spend the next ten hours chatting and drinking the wine we bought the day before. I meet an expat and his wife from another part of Mexico and she gives me the name of a plumber who shows up on time and knows what he is doing to fix a persistent water problem at the restaurant. Lots more catching up over the next few hours though I neglect to eat and, by the time I realize I should, I decide I do not want to roll the dice with the mechado (a typical Yucatecan dish) being served since it has been impossibly hot and it’s been sitting out all day.
After the restaurant closes, staff stick around to share a few beers and hear H.’s version of a pep talk and then a couple of us hang out for a few hours, with the friend from the hotel also popping up at one point. I am ravenous and somewhat drunk, so my nephew buys me some delicious pasta from a neighbor who sells food out of their house. I have no idea how much it costs.
We get a ride back to the hotel at around 1:00am and I sleep immediately.
Total: $13
Day 3: Valladolid => El Cuyo
H. takes off early again to meet the taxi driver he hired for the gravel job and I wake up around 10:30am, not feeling so hot. I head next door to another cute little bougie café, ostensibly for some breakfast, but the service is abysmal, so I just have an iced latte and sparkling water ($5.50). H. comes back and I am now cranky from hunger, so we head to a hole-in-the-wall creatively named “Cocina La Yucateca,” where I get eggs and longaniza which totals $7.20 with two Cokes and tip as well (much cheaper than the place I originally considered eating). H. pays.
Since I am heading to El Cuyo, which is well known for having few services and stores, I stop at La Favorita to buy two bottles of Barefoot pinot grigio ($21). H. accompanies me to the bus station where I buy a ticket to Tizimin for the first leg of the trip ($3.20), ask a random person to watch my luggage while I go to the bathroom ($.40—for the bathroom entry, not for the luggage watching), and impatiently wait for the bus, which rolls up about 45 minutes late.
In Tizimin, I buy a ticket for the second-class bus to El Cuyo ($5), grab a bottle of water ($.75), and settle in for about an hour wait. A security guard approaches me to see my ticket. I assume I appear lost or confused, but he is satisfied once I produce it. A woman strikes up a conversation with me and we while away the time talking and continue to do so during the 1.5-hour bus ride. I am normally not too friendly, but this woman from Mexico City is on something of a healing journey, which she shares with me and I find myself opening up as well. I’ve been feeling bad of late about the shape my life has taken so these conversations serve to affirm that it is all going to be okay.
The thing about El Cuyo is it is notorious for spotty cell service and in preparation for that, I take a screenshot of the pinned location sent to me by the woman who manages the house I am staying in (privately arranged via Facebook). However, I was not prepared for NO cell service and also a power outage. My new friend sets me off in the general direction of where I believe I need to go and I get increasingly sweatier dragging my large suitcase down sandy streets. I pop out on the beach where I think the place should be and instead end up in the backyard of a family of European tourists. It appears that the screenshot of the pinned location I have diverges considerably from that of a live map. They wish me the best.
I decide that I should probably go beach side to see if I can recognize the house from a picture I saved but realize this isn’t going to work with my giant suitcase, especially as night is falling quickly. So I backtrack and ask a group of Americans (I still don’t know if there were ten of them or 40) if I can leave my suitcase with them. They give me a flashlight and off I go.
I start getting a little panicky as I walk down the beach in the dark and a man pops up and says “it’s you again!” I somehow made it bag to the European family’s yard. His sweet wife goes all mama bear to help me and suggests she and I go to the main street, where we flag down a guy on a scooter. I finally remember that, even without cell signal, I still have at least the name of the woman who manages the house. He says she lives a block or so away and we head off in that direction. I approach a woman and ask if she knows of my contact and it IS my contact. We head back to the main street, drop the helpful European lady off, and pick up my suitcase from the Americans, who proceed to all scream “Rhode Island” at me every time I see them for the next few days.
She deposits me at the house, I pay her cash for the three nights (accounted for in accommodation costs), and use a mini battery-powered light to try to get myself organized in a new place with no electricity. There is no way I have it in me to find a place for dinner, so I resign myself to eating convenience store food for dinner and locate a tiendita to get some chips, mini muffins, and drinks to tide me over ($6).
Back at my room, I shovel muffins in my face as I sweat. I take a cold shower and then tuck myself in. Luckily, the lights came on shortly after and I finally fall asleep listening to the waves.
Total: $15.35
Day 4: El Cuyo
I wake up SO well rested and ready to get started on my plan for El Cuyo, which is to do as little as possible. This is precisely why I chose a place with a nice porch right on the beach. I am armed with my Kindle, podcasts downloaded, a self-help book, and my journal.
I head off to a cute and bougie little breakfast place called Naia and have a sandwich and two iced lattes while reading for a while ($17). This is, of course, after greeting the friendly pack of Americans. They yell “Rhode Island” at me from several different tables. Back at the house, I spend a beautiful late morning and early afternoon swimming in the ocean, staring into space, and chatting with the woman in the next room over who has similar plans to mine while in El Cuyo but is heading out today.
Hungry again in the late afternoon, I walk to the center of town where I buy some crackers, queso de bola, and a knife ($7.20) to tide me over until dinner. I later find a knife in the alcove where I am staying, but oh well. More lounging, then a nap and I get ready for dinner. I head to Piccola, which is an Italian place. After I greet the pack of Americans who are also there, I settle in for two glasses of wine, some pasta, and also buy a dry brownie to go ($28).
Back to the room and tucked in early. There is now a second cockroach, but they seem to be staying close to the bathroom so I feel that we can continue to coexist.
Total: $52.20
Day 5: El Cuyo
Similar day to yesterday: get TONS of sleep and mosey out for breakfast. Today, gorditas and a diet Coke at a place called Casa Mangle ($12.20). I grab a large bottle of water ($1.10) before heading back to more ocean floating, hammock swaying, and Kindle reading.
I realize around 3:00pm that the electricity has gone out again. I go for a long walk on the beach and then I lie in the sand like a sea turtle for a while. More lounging on the porch and then I shower before hopefully finding a place that is a little more affordable for dinner. I am reaching one of those places when the electricity goes out again. As it is dark and I can barely see, I decide to return to eat closer to my room. Since it is off season in El Cuyo and lots of places keep irregular hours anyway, I stop at one place I knew would be open. It is awfully fancy for a seaside fishing village but I just go with it. An overpriced hamburger and cocktail later, I am off to another early bedtime ($27).
But first, a battle with a couple of cockroaches I can no longer peacefully coexist with as they are getting braver and have encroached on my territory. There is one flying around the room and crawling around the edge of the bed so I shoo it and a couple others out.
Total: $39.96
Day 6: El Cuyo => Valladolid
Same morning routine: a café for a bagel sandwich and iced latte ($10). This time, back to the room to pack and send a Whatsapp to a moto-taxi number I was given. I really want to catch the noon bus back to Tizimin as the one after doesn’t leave until 3:00pm but definitely do not want to drag my suitcase for 20 minutes in the heat of mid-day, especially as I am still carrying two bottles of wine around since I didn’t open them. He doesn’t show when I asked him to, which makes me a little nervous but he eventually appears and is an actual child, maybe 11-years old. He drops me off at the corner where the second-class bus will pass ($1.10). I have about 15 minutes to wait so I grab some coconut ice cream from a cart ($1.10).
A young woman joins me in my small patch of shade and we start chatting. She is from a village about a half hour away and comes to El Cuyo to work every day. She is surprised to hear that I am married and that my husband permits me to travel alone and tells me about her recent marital troubles. As it turns out, her husband stepped out on her due to witchcraft. Once she realized this, she was able to undo the spell and get back together with him. The bus comes and I pay the driver ($5). In Tizimin again, I walk to the other bus station to buy a ticket to Valladolid ($3) and a Coke ($1). I am being careful about my water intake because there are no bathrooms on a second-class bus although I am SO thirsty. I then pay to use the bathroom ($.40) and buy some cookies ($.75) to tide me over. I share them with the granddaughter of the woman I asked to watch my luggage while I went to the bathroom.
I also rent a hotel room for the night in Valladolid on Expedia while waiting (accounted for in accommodations). Back in Valladolid, I get stubborn and don’t want to linger and wait for H. to grab me as he was at the restaurant meeting with the plumber whose number I’d gotten on Sunday and who actually showed up when he said he would. I drag my suitcase the eight blocks or so and check into the hotel. Starving, I buy a tempura roll to tide me over ($6.60) from Itamae Sushi around the corner.
My sister-in-law drops H. off at the hotel so she can run some errands. He and I get ready and go to the taxi stand to the village. Though we no longer have mariachis waiting on us, he must be feeling like a baller as he pays the full fare to not wait for two more passengers ($4.40).
We have dinner with my mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nephew, and two nieces at the village’s very own Japanese/Italian restaurant. I do not see the bill so I don’t know what H. paid.
Back to the hotel to sleep around 11:30pm.
My thoughts on El Cuyo, an interlude: This small village is in the process of being “discovered.” Which basically means, at least to me, people seeking an “authentic Mexican experience” are now starting to visit. But what that tends to mean is that foreigners arrive, open their cute little businesses with fusion cuisine, and charge higher prices than are accessible to Mexicans from the area. I got what I wanted—a gorgeous view and a lot of solitude. But it is also the kind of place where you have to work much harder to just find a damn taco, as evidenced by what I ate. I am fine with that for a couple of days because I didn’t want to exert much effort. I foresee El Cuyo heading the way of Tulum and Holbox in the coming years.
Total: $31.60
Day 7: Valladolid => Cancun
For some mystifying reason, H. told a carpenter to meet him at the restaurant at 6:00am. Everyone told him that was ridiculous but he is stubborn and believes it is fine. He oversleeps and I wake him at 8:00am and he leaves to meet the poor guy who’d been waiting for him for hours. I sleep a bit more and then get breakfast (quesadilla de longaniza and an iced latte) at the adorable café owned by the woman I met in El Cuyo. ($13.30).
H. comes back to the hotel just before noon so we can check out as we are off to Cancun today. We go to the construction site where our business will be located. OSHA and PPE do not exist—I duck under rickety scaffolding and watch men in flip flops mix cement by hand. We then spend some time bopping around the village saying our goodbyes. Including a couple of hours at the restaurant as he takes care of various things. The staff and my other family members sit around and chat for a while, but they switch to Maya so I zone out. A stop at the cemetery to light a candle for my father-in-law, who died of COVID late 2021, some more stops for goodbyes, and then we pick up my brother-in-law to take us to Cancun.
He drops us off a few hours later at Sun Palace after a stop for gas ($22.50, H. pays) and some more bags of fruit on the way ($5.80, H. again).
We shower, head to the bar where I start drinking my body weight in Prosecco, have dinner at the Mexican restaurant where we determine that the waiter is from the same village as H., and then back to the bar. We make friends with a couple from Merida and we bond only as strangers on vacation can do. The male half of the couple owns several businesses and seems to be plugged into area politics, so he offers H. some drunken advice.
Hang out on the balcony for a while, order two cheeseburgers from room service that we absolutely don’t need but definitely want, and then knock out around 2am.
Total: $13.30
Day 8: Cancun
Because we got a late start to Cancun yesterday, H. did not have the time to do the errands in Cancun he planned to do, so he wakes around 7:30am and goes to meet brother-in-law who spent the night in Cancun with some cousins. They buy a pool pump and some pool chemicals, eat some tacos, and then he calls me from the pool when he arrives at the hotel late morning.
We basically just laze around all day, take a nap in the room, and then head to dinner at the Italian restaurant. He gives tips to people throughout the day as we eat and drink, but I do not keep track of that. We go to bed around midnight after playing a couple of games of pool with a couple we met at dinner.
Total: $0
Day 9: Cancun
H. is up and commandeering lounge chairs down by the pool at 7:30. I sleep in until about 8:30 and then get up and ready to head downtown to meet an old friend for breakfast.
I grab the bus ($.65) and head to La Fonda de Las Pinatas, a place near her apartment, for breakfast. We do some serious catching up over two huaraches de arrachera and a round of diet Cokes and I pay for both ($20). The owner who she is friendly with stops by our table to drop some truth bombs about living your best life as a woman of a certain age. We stroll back to the bus stop where I hop on ($.65) and ride in the stairwell most of the way since it is so packed.
We swim, lounge by the pool, and chat with the friends he made while I was gone. We then crack open a bottle of Moet that H. had bought in the US for us to toast at the restaurant anniversary, but we forgot to bring on Sunday ($60). Up to the room after hanging out by the pool until around 7pm, got ready for dinner, and then off to the steakhouse for our last night.
H. is steadily turning into a giant drunk toddler due to his hectic schedule, a severe bout of heartburn, lack of sleep, and lots of drinks. After a couple of after-dinner drinks, I corral him into our room at a reasonable time, order him a torta de cochinita pibil from room service, and finally get him tucked in after only a couple of minutes whining that he wants another one.
Total: $21.30
Day 10: Cancun => Providence
Getting the iced coffee to perk me up yesterday evening was a bad idea as I did not sleep well at all. Mr. Heartburn starts tossing and turning around 5am and I am up shortly after, grumpily lying in bed.
We are about $40 pesos short of what we need for a cab ride to the airport, so I leave to get him some heartburn medicine and find a Santander ATM so that I am not charged withdrawal fees due to using them for banking in the US. On the bus to Plaza La Isla, where I believe there is an ATM I need ($.65). I ask the security guard and he says it’s not working but I did remember passing another on the way, I just didn’t realize it in time to get off. I buy overpriced heartburn medicine ($11) and hike it back the less-than-one-mile trip to Plaza Kukulkan with the Santander. Mission accomplished, bus back to the hotel ($.65).
We eat, pack, and check out. Our normal taxi driver (a family friend who works out of a taxi stand downtown) is not allowed to come pick us up so the bellboys call us one ($30). The taxi driver was also at my mother-in-law’s birthday and agreed to take us as he was buzzed, but came to his senses when H. called him later.
We get to the airport in plenty of time to space out and look forward to napping on the flight to Chicago Midway. Alas, that was not in the cards. I am used to fussy babies and children and can empathize with how challenging it is to travel with little ones. Unfortunately, we ended up sitting right in back of a family of six, two of whom were very mad babies (and one toddler). They pretty much screamed the entire three hours.
Chicago was a cluster and we had limited time to make a connection. For whatever reason, the two places we stopped were….out of most food? We finally managed to find two sandwiches and two drinks ($21).
Finally in Providence around 11:30pm, there are no Lyfts to be found. So we head to where the taxis wait and asked a guy if he was looking for passengers and whether he accepted cards. He answered in the affirmative to both. Then he starts acting really put upon that he has to bring us to our destination, but never actually declines. At home, I hand him my card and he starts clutching his temples, shaking his head, and tsk-tsking. So I offer to run inside and grab cash to pay him. He whines that this will just take up more of his time and runs my card while grumbling. What a weirdo ($32).

Shree Antu Lake is also popular. Ilam is also well known for bird watching and the area is also famous for red pandas. The hill station has a beautiful environment and a good mix of cultures. It also offers a variety of good hotels and restaurants where you and your family can spend time together. The place is tourist friendly and completely under budget. So it is one of the best family travel places in Nepal for a long stay.
You can choose one of the above and spend quality time with your family. Traveling with your family strengthens your relationship with them. It also helps you create new memories with your children.

These are the cruises I've narrowed down to for my partner and I. They're all late Novembeearly December. The outlier is the Ascent Maiden voyage which is a much higher price point.
Anything I should know about major differences between these cruise lines and destinations?
