2023.03.31 08:22 newtxtdoc I just watched the Dungeons and Dragons (2000) movie for the first time
So in preparation for my night out with my friends tomorrow to see the new movie, I decided to watch the older one as I heard it was pretty bad. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am not saying it was good though, as for those who have seen it, what a weird and dumb ending.
Here are a few of the things I liked about it (pretty much most of what I liked):
- The beholder design when they snuck into a fort to get their MacGuffin scroll back was cool. I liked how its stalks weren't shown originally and then they all popped out of its body when it became alert.
- The dwarf was a funny, absurd character. Honestly if it wasn't for him, I really wouldn't have enjoyed a lot of the scenes that took place.
- I liked a lot of the set designs. They did a good job at setting up each environment even if a lot of the scenes were lackluster.
Now for a short (but not all) list of complaints:
- The wizard's apprentice who follows them throughout the adventure becomes useless for most of it. She showed a powerful prowess over the arcane in the first few scenes but then used none of those tricks later on. I can count on my hands how many times she actually used a spell during a scene. (Keep in mind she is with them for days)
- Snails was fun (but very 2000's cringe) at times but like he was just as incompetent in scenes. It was like these side characters were meant to just bring up the main character. Also, why don't they just revive him? Or is that what the name erasing means?
- Female armor design. Although a ton of old DND books had similar designs, it was still super cringe to see earlier today.
- The beholder may have been cool design wise but it does literally nothing besides scare the characters as they show up at the camp. No action for that poor fellow and no mention of it later.
- The main character, which is supposed to be a thief-type, barely does any stealth action at all. Besides the challenge maze, he literally fights face to face with most of the people there and actively tries to get into one on one combat. Like near the end of the movie, he could have just stabbed the man with the staff as well as his guard. WHY DOES HE WAIT FOR THEM TO SEE HIM?
- At the end of the movie, they all become red orbs and fly away with the Dragon's Heart ruby as they stand near Snails' grave. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHERE IS THE EXPLANATION?
Overall though, it was a fun little watch. If you don't take it too seriously, it will give you a ton of nostalgic vibes of old fantasy movies but with an added bonus of ridiculous plot holes and absurd character actions to laugh to. I really hope the new movie is way better, I have a feeling its going to ace it.

I have been a lawyer for about 18 months. Ultimately, I want to work in cybersecurity and national security. However, I feel as though I do not have the experience to pursue more senior roles and I am in a position now where I cannot take a risk or reduction in pay for many of the entry level positions.
I was admitted to the bar in 2021 in a midwestern jurisdiction and moved to DC with no job, no network, and extremely limited legal experience. I have recently been admitted to the DC bar. When I first moved to DC, I worked at a law firm for a few months before getting a position as an attorney with the federal government. Unfortunately, it was a term appointment which was not renewed once the program was completed after a few months. After months of job hunting, I am currently working as a federal contractor (law clerk) with a big agency. However, none of my work experience is related to cybersecurity law. I do not have an undergraduate degree in any way related to cybersecurity. I did take courses in law school in cybersecurity and privacy law in which I did very well.
I did not figure out what area of law I wanted to practice in until after law school, so I was not focused in law school. My grades were average, above a 3.0, but average. Because of this, I have been considering going back to school to earn an LLM.
Is an LLM worth it? Will it help advance my career? And short of going back to school are there different avenues for starting my career in cybersecurity law that I should consider before having to endure law school exams again?

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but I am in the testing phase of my application so I have a long ways to go until I am selected and hired. About how long is the waiting process? I have heard several different lengths of time ranging from a couple of weeks/months to 2 years before you're standing in basic. Any clarification from BPA's?
Second, this is even further out of the way, what opens up to me after becoming a BPA? What paths are available? Are there unique job opportunities available that promote from within? Will my experience be worth anything if I decide to do 20 and get out?
A lot of questions, I know. Just curious about the whole process and if becoming an agent would translate into anything in the future, or if that part is entirely up to me. Thank guys, appreciate the input.

I interviewed with this company and was hired. I asked if I could apply as a seishain after a few years and they said that the position is seishain but with yearly contracts. I was under the impression that a seishain is a permanent employee with indefinite term of employment. I asked how this is possible and she said she couldnโt explain it well but assured me it is a seishain position. I have been reading other posts and some articles but itโs still not clear to me. My current job is a contractor but I do get all the pension, health insurance deductions and twice a year bonuses so I am not completely sure what this all means. Thanks to anyone who can clarify.

one of the ways to get an admin credential) is to just pass CPACE. From what I can tell these tests aren't easy but it still seems odd to me that you can get an admin credential by just passing a pair of tests. Can anyone share their thoughts/experiences regarding the CPACE exams?
- How hard are they?
- If you pass them and apply for the credential, will you actually get a job? (It's hard for me to imagine that a district would hire an administrator who hadn't completed some sort of program.)
For the record, I have a master's in curriculum and instruction and have been teaching for 5 years.
