Roast me, fellow Reddit Engineers; I need to know if my mental gymnastics are sound or if I'm fogged. Neither of the two countries mentioned are North American.
I work for and manage remotely Company A (rather small), we have an enormous working relationship with Company B (Huge), and an occasional relationship with company C (Huge), all of which are in Country No. 1.
Company B has provided my name to consult (hourly) for Company C in Country No. 2, for which my company (A) does have a registered but not yet operating business - it's more of a shell for things. Company B is part of that process as well - all in Country No. 2.
The nature of the consulting for Company C is doing near exactly what I do for Company A - but it is not specifically competitive. Company A is an outwardly commercial business, and Company C is just setting up the same sort of equipment for exclusively for their own internal R&D - not commercial, and needs real guidance. This is a boundary I have explicitly verified.
My agreement with Company A in Country No. 2 is such that I must report conflicts of interest so they can be addressed; Quality management is the background of how my industry operates. So, today, I did just that - without naming names because I have already done a few hours of work, but not yet been paid, and it was as an informal phone call to my direct report, not the actual talking heads. But, lets assume that Company A will take a large issue with this and try to disallow it.
Where do people stand on the following options:
  1. How you spend your free time is your own damn business. Go and consult for them.
  2. It's questionable, but try and do the work under a two-way NDA with company C so your name never gets brought up. Maybe start your own shell corporation.
  3. You are out of bounds on this one. It sucks, but you've truly got no wiggle room unless Company A gives you that space.
Consulting is, honestly, my end game. But I'm not there with volume, yet.
I am at the intersection of either continuing to do more work, or telling them I need to stop. I've rather prided myself on making ethically sound decisions historically, but I very much do not appreciate an employer dictating how I spend my free time; it's none of their business as long as there is not an exchange of confidential information.
So, roast me and my conundrum.

YOU, have to take pictures, have evidence and still, over the past 20 years, we have lost out on return of our damage deposit twice, because the one agency that is supposed to represent and protect us, have not legal way to stand up for us. So what is their actual ability to protect renters and what legal ways are they allowed to protect us. This is a null agency within a provincial government. The money spent on salaries and rent on office space could be spent on building and maintaining below market rentals. I know, I was a Contracting Federal Officer for 17 Years. This agency and ICBC are agencies, that are bleeding our tax dollars.

Hello, I recently submitted a rent application for a one bedroom apartment, and got rejected. They emailed saying since I have two children, I wouldn’t be eligible to apply. At first I didn’t think much of it but now I’m wondering whether that is legal? I know it’s illegal to reject an application if the applicant has children. But is there a law in regards to the apartment space and the number of people living there??
I honestly don’t think a one bedroom apartment for 3 people ( 2 kids under 7) is inadequate???
