2023.05.30 16:44 zoeschaver Finishing first year as a therapist - does it get less tiring?
Quick overview -- I graduated in May 2022, worked as an in-home family therapist-slash-case manager for 9 months with low direct client contact hours but high stress/acuity, and for the past month have been working in inpatient substance use with a caseload of 7 clients, doing ~21 clinical hours per week plus 2-4 groups and a lot of documentation. I'm an introverted person but love people. I am much more content in my current job than my previous one, but I am totally exhausted. I am hoping it is still a result of being new to this job and having not done this much client contact before now. But virtually every day when I get home I have absolutely no energy left. I know it's case by case, but have others had the experience of sessions becoming less draining over time than they are when you're relatively new to the field?

2023.05.30 16:43 anxinjie Can I take legal action against a company that gave me an incorrect parking permit leading to £200 in fines
In April this year I bought a car and had to buy a parking permit to park it in a private car park down the street from my flat as it was my only option for parking. I bought the permit from the company I was renting from, which is the same company that owns the private car park. Unknown to me, they gave me a permit with the previous year's dates on it (July 2021 - August 2022).
I have now recieved two £100 fines for having an out of date parking permit. I understand that appealing the fines probably won't work as the parking enforcement company will say it was my responsibility to check that the permit was correct before displaying it. However, could I still take legal action against the company that gave me the permit? As it should be their responsibility to give out the correct permit when a custometenant has paid £75 for it, and keeping permits on the desk in the office that are 10 months out of date is careless.
Is there anything I could do or am I out of luck?

2023.05.30 16:42 needhelpeveryday Those who own a clinic or hire other BCBAs, how do you view/base your decision on what school a new BCBA just graduated from?
To save on cost I will be attending a university that was recommended to me in order to save on tuition costs. I know an alumni who went there for an MS in ABA. I work at a very good ABA clinic and my supervisor said she will work with me to add even more up to date information to what I will be learning at my school. I work at one of the best clinics in my state, so I know my supervisor can really help me. The alumni I know was also hired at this clinic.
The schools I got into when I look them up say they are considered higher education for this type of master’s degree. And one of the schools has a 91% passing rate for those who sit down and take the board exam.
I’m just wondering during the hiring process, what do employers look for? What will they think when they see a school that maybe isn’t as well known? Should I be worried? I was told if you pass the boards that really is what future employers care about. Please let me know, I don’t want my chances of working as a BCBA to be lessened because of where I went to school! Thank you!

2023.05.30 16:40 GradExpertUK It's ridiculous that we are expected to apply to over a 100 jobs
For me personally I don't live to work, I work to live.
Idk if it's the current current macro climate or something else but everyday on subreddits I see people are being successful in 1 every 100, 200 even 300 applications...
I did some digging to see if this was the case:
- On average, employers received 39 applications per graduate vacancy in 2022 which is inline with 2021, 2020. For 2023, a lot of companies have forecasted they will increase hiring of graduates - cheaper work, will stay at company longer etc. So even though the macro environment is not the best it isn't too dissimilar to previous years.
- Recent stats show that it takes about 100-200+ applications to receive one job offer! You have an 8.3% chance of getting a job interview from a single job application. That means it takes 10-20 applications to get one interview and 10-15 interviews to get one job offer. That's a lot of applications...
I feel part of it is due to a scatter gun approach when applying but it is still absolutely ridiculous to expect people to apply to many jobs especially if they are studying, working, have people dependent on them. I shouldn't need to research, tailor my CV etc to get a job. The truth is people seek jobs for income, less stress, this job is just closer to where they live, etc.
However, having found myself trying to find a job recently these are two strategies I think are helpful when applying to
100+ applications:
- (An approach alongside studying) If you allocate 40mins a day to complete 2 application that's 40 applications a month (not inc. weekends), 100 applications within 2.5 months - you only need 1 company to say yes!
- (The approach I used when I was searching after uni) It was to treat it as a full time job while working my part time job so applied for around 20 hours a week. It took me 5 weeks to get a job offer I was happy with and around 150 applications. So 30 applications a week, 6 applications a day - this included cover letters, researching the company to give tailored responses etc.
The playing field is super competitive so it's important to prepare and manage your time accordingly so you can strategically apply to graduate jobs.
Curious on how many applications is took other people? Are there any other successful strategies people have used?

2023.05.30 16:39 Plastic_Brother_999 Social Media is literally a cancer.
Social Media is literally a cancer. It kills your time and destroys your life. Hers my story: I graduated in 2019 and returned to my parents’ house. I never wanted to work immediately after graduation. I had planned that I will work on myself i.e., hit the gym, learn driving and swimming and upskill myself beyond what is thought in the university. Today, after 4 years, I can say that, this was the worst decision of my life. I moved back to my parents’ home after staying away from them for 2.5 years. The idea of not getting a job immediately after graduation was influence by social media. There is a popular sentiment on the internet that working 9 to 5 is bad thing. Also, movies in my country promote living live carefree and discourages 9 to 5. They spread negative propaganda about being an employee and encourage leaving job and encourage travelling the world. This kind of movies and social media posts influenced my decision to not work a 9 to 5. And here I am, after 4 years of my graduation, I am still jobless. Why it got delayed? The COVID struck just 2 months after moving in with my parents. Which means I had to live with parents locked in a house whom I had not stayed with for 2.5 years. Since we were staying apart for 2.5 years, we had developed different approach and ideologies for life. This resulted in constant clashes. Disturbed by the clashes, I turned to social media for escapism. Then, I kept using Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, 9GAG, YouTube for hours and hours. My scree time was on an average 10 hours daily. This led to further depression and disappointment since I had done literally nothing for the past 4 years! The disappointment led me to use social media more and the cycle continued. Arguing with strangers on Reddit, 9GAG and YouTube about politics and religion and geopolitics etc is all what I had done in the past 4 years. Now my Resume has a gap of 4 years and I can’t do anything about. What did I get by arguing with internet strangers especially about politics and religion? Nothing.
So, I have decided to uninstall all apps which require internet connect (Except Banking and Google Maps).

2023.05.30 16:38 UnderwaterUnderwrite Mortgage Underwriter looking to Pivot?
The hiring space for the mortgage industry is as bare as it gets. I’ve spoken directly with C Suite executives from various lenders in my area and it’s a virtual hiring freeze for anyone with an Underwriting background.
A bit about myself: I graduated from Brown University in 2016 where I obtained a degree in Business Economics. I got into the mortgage industry shortly out of college with mortgage lender’s recent college grad program. By the end of my first year with the company, I had been fast tracked into a Conventional Underwriting position and found myself working side by side with the sales teams in the Call Center with full credit authority. At my three year mark, I was sponsored for my DE, completing the required test cases without any defects in April of 2020. I also have experience with VA products and specialty loan products that include Non-QM, Non-prime, and Jumbo loans. My company started layoffs in the beginning of 2022 and my department was eventually dissolved in November. I was offered a severance, which I accepted.
I’ve applied to various finance, analyst, and credit roles trying to sell some of the transferable skills I have but haven’t had much luck. I chalked the first few months up to the holidays being a bad time to be applying for a job but since January I’ve gotten significantly more automated rejections or ghostings after (seemingly) successful interviews than my ego can handle.
Does anyone have any advice on where to go from here?

2023.05.30 16:36 xDictate Trip report - One week in Portugal
My wife and I took a trip to Portugal early December of 2022, and we had a really solid time. The food experiences were amazing and getting to take in so much old-world architecture was awe-inspiring.
Focus: Our main focus was lazy tourism and fine dining between Porto and Lisbon. We ended the trip with a 9 hour layover in Toronto, which we used to visit friends and some of our favorite Toronto spots.
Weather: The week was mostly sunny with some rain interspersed, and average temperatures seeming to be mid-teens. Toronto at the time was cold and snow-covered.
Accomodations: We ended up doing hotels as they were rather cheap.
Some photos below, along with some detailed notes of the packing list. Photos may be missing some things due to last minute substitutions, tried to note that.
Bag of choice: - Peak Design 30L Travel Bag - This thing felt like a black hole, and seemed to hold more than the size would indicate. This is heads above my old Bellroy Transit and I'm happy I made the switch.
Worn clothing: - Ministry of Supply Atlas Sweater - Not pictured, pictured is a Heattech Ultrawarm sweater I didn't take. Merino blend, soft, warm. All I could ask for. I surprisingly didn't use it much more than just the flight there, but I'm happy I had it on me.
- Ministry of Supply Composite Merino tee - The cut fits me well, anti-wrinkle, and surprising resistance to smells even with only being 15% merino. I got a good 2-3 wears out of this.
- Saxx Quest 2.0 Boxer Briefs - GOAT for travel, these things wear well, hand wash well, and dry overnight.
- Smartwool full cushion crew socks - Merino socks! They were warm and wore well! Smartwool tends to be realtively affordable when on sale, and they've held up very well.
- Lululemon ABC pants skinny - Warpstreme fabric is lovely and in black looks like a pretty standard pair of pants. This is actually the only pants I wore the whole trip.
- Pontos The Pacific shoe - These have been awesome. Very comfortable to walk in, and they dress up or down really nicely. These did cobblestone, grass, rocks, sand, snow, rain, etc, and they looked great doing it. I found I needed to pull the insoles end of the day, but by morning they were dry and fresh again.
- Arcade Midnighter belt - Not pictured. Stretchy black belt!
Packed clothing: - Seagale Action Merino Tee (2) - black tees, easy care, love the fit. They hand wash really well if necessary, but I got 3 wears out of these easily. Having this tee on for the 24+ hours of travel on the leg home was a godsend, great moisture management and incredibly soft.
- Ministry of Supply Composite Merino tee - Grey. The cut fits me well, anti-wrinkle, and surprising resistance to smells even with only being 15% merino. I got a good 2-3 wears out of this.
- Ministry of Supply Apollo Raglan Sleeve Sport Shirt - Basically a button down. This thing fits awesome and doesn’t wrinkle. Standard sleeves would be better but this dresses up well enough - I wore this out to 6 different restaurants in Portugal, and even gave it a whole day as a layer over a tee, and it was very comfortable and performant. No need to wash between wears with a tee under it.
- Ministry of Supply Pace Chinos - I didn't actually wear these, the ABCs were plenty enough for the trip.
- Lululemon T.H.E. Shorts 7” - We didn’t have access to any pools or spas while there, so these were dead weight. Considering they weigh almost nothing though, not a big loss.
- Saxx Quest 2.0 Boxer Briefs (3) - 1 black, 2 grey. I’ve had these for a while and they’re probably still my favorite style from Saxx. They hand wash and dry well, and they’re comfortable. All I can ask for. I washed each pair once over the trip, and they dried overnight.
- Uniqlo Airism Boxers (2) - Sleep shorts. Hand washed once each, and they dried overnight.
- Smartwool Full Cushion Crew Socks (2) - Merino socks! What’s more to say. Smartwool is affordable while on sale and has some great durability. I’ve been happy with my pairs so far. I washed each pair once over the trip, and they really just needed a one day dry. I think the number of socks packed was pretty ideal.
- Smartwool No Show Socks - I didn’t need or use these, but having the emergency socks was a nice include. They’re small and didn’t really add any weight.
Outer Layers: - Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket - Wind proof, water resistant, very insulating. Packs down rather small. I’ve moved to synthetic insulation as it keeps warm when wet unlike down jackets. This held up well to a bit of rain while we were there and kept me warm enough most days.
- Patagonia Torrentshell 3L - Water proof. Wind proof. A bit crinkly, and didn’t really get a lot of use in Portugal due to the lack of heavy rain. Also being waterproof it tends to keep heat in just as well as it keeps water out, so combined with the nano puff it offered pretty good insulation for Toronto.
- Smartwool Glove Liners - Just some basic gloves. They work with touch screens, that’s cool I guess! Solid for Toronto.
- Merino Buff - Part neck gaiter, part sleep mask for the flight. It was awesome to have. On tour buses with an open roof it was very nice to have a bit of insulation I could throw into a sling.
Electronics: - Tom Bihn Ghost Whale Small - This contains my charging and camera connectivity kit, and it’s a tight squeeze but everything fits.
- Mophie 6000mah universal PD battery - Not the smallest or lightest battery, but it supports lightning input, and also does passthrough charging, which makes it the centerpiece for my tiny charging empire.
- Apple SD card readers - These just work, and they work well. Both Lightning and USB-C. Once the iPhone goes to USB-C I can drop the Lightning one. Let’s me ingest RAW files onto any of my devices. I didn’t need the Lightning one, but it’s just a standard in the bag now, so along it came.
- Anker Powerport III Nano 30W - Super slim, 30w charging. It’s been a standard for me for a while.
- Anker Cables - 3ft USB-C to Lightning and 3ft USB-C to USB-C. Covers all my device charging needs.
- Fujifilm X100V - Killer camera, compact, fun to shoot with.
- Tom Bihn Utility Cloth - It’s a wool square! It’s moonlighting as a camera wrap here, but it can be anything! Neck gaiter? Check. Very small blanket? Check. Table cloth? You bet. The options are limitless for the wool square! This was actually an MVP - The tiny blanket feature came in handy on tour buses, and it worked great for wiping down wet seats on a boat tour.
- Keys - Featuring an Airtag, and the final member of the charging gang, an InchargeX. I’ve also got a Nite Ize Doohickey on there for bottles and boxes. The Doohickey is awesome as it passes through airport security without issues and does a good enough job of what it’s designed to do.
- Airpods Pro - Basically perfect headphones for short stints. Reasonable battery life, great noise cancelling, agreeable sound quality. Overall solid.
- Destination Specific adapters (2) - Two is one and one is none, or something like that.
- iPad Mini 6 - Used for editing photos, reading on the plane, larger view for maps, etc.
- iPhone 12 - Works well with everything else I own. I grabbed an eSIM from Airalo on MEO, giving me 30gb of data for 15 days.
- Sony WH-1000XM4 - Not pictured. These were great for the 6-8 hour transatlantic flights. A last minute pick but I’m glad they made it into the bag.
A quick note on my charging setup: The whole setup for charging with my InchargeX allows me to charge two devices overnight AND my battery off a single 30w slim wall adapter. This is about as close as I can get to a perfect tiny charging setup. The iPhone plus the battery is plenty enough to get me through even the heaviest of days, into a second day. Toiletries: - Exfoliating cloth - Nylon textured cloth that’s basically an unravelled loofah. So easy to get a lather and you feel a lot cleaner after a good exfoliating scrub. I use one of these at home now too. I’d like to find a face cloth sized one for travel.
- Unscented Company Shampoo bar and soap bar - Stored in Matador soap cases. These lather really well, clean great, and support my “all solids” agenda for travel. They work great for cleaning clothes too. I’ve been using these at home instead of liquids, and can’t complain. We were never without toiletries due to the hotels, but I prefer these.
- Philips One Toothbrush - Next time I’d probably just get a cover for the head as I think the case was a bit large. I liked having the electric function though.
- Various OTC meds - Stored in Nalgene containers, these little things are waterproof and well built.
- Lush Dirty Toothy Tabs - Toothpaste replacement and my go-to for a while. Enough for both myself and my wife.
- Hair Bands - Two is one and one is none, or something like that.
- Xiaomi Mijia S100 shaver - New to me, picked it over a Philips OneBlade. Dual rotary shaver, compact, USB-C charging. I don’t get a lot of facial hair growth but I get enough that I like touching up every couple days. This did the trick. Might try to go back to a manual razor like a mach 3.
- Native Deodorant - Been my go-to for a while. I can’t seem to find a travel size in Canada, but this would be a huge space saver if I could. I may consider melting it down and re-packing it as some enterprising individuals on the internet have before me.
- Folding brush - I’ve had this for ages, and it’s been awesome.
Everything else: - Bellroy Lite Sling - Very flexible in load out, the 7L size made for a very good holding capacity to size ratio. This functioned as my camera bag and held essentials when transiting through airports or while on trains.
- Tom Bihn Ghost Whale Super Mini - Bag of holding for…
- Ray-Ban Folding Wayfarers - Matte black, high quality, compact. Non-polarized. Perfect fit in the ghost whale and always with me for sunny days. These were great for the trip as we had a lot of sunny days.
- Apple Magsafe Wallet - Not much to say here, standard 3 card carry - ID, debit card, credit card.
- Vapur Eclipse bottle - Didn’t actually use this, but fit in one of the mesh side pouches in my Peak Design bag handily.
- PackTowl Large - Came in handy when we were short a few towels in the hotel the first day in Porto.
- KN95 Masks (3) - Black, used on the airplanes. We didn’t get sick on the trip!
- Matador Packable Tote - Was useful for day excursions, shopping, etc. 18L packs down into a very compact size and it’s a robust bag.
- Passport - Well this is kinda needed for international travel. I also had my Presto (Toronto transit payment card) and alternate credit card in here as a just in case.
What Worked: Overall I think my packing list is cohesive enough and walked the line between casual and nice enough for a good restaurant. I've been working with a lot of this clothing for a while so it's been tested heavily through the rigors of daily wear, and I was very confident in my choices going in. The massive standout was the wool utility cloth - I think more people need these!
What could have been improved: I overpacked on a few things like pants and shorts, which really are just small things. The Pontos were awesome for the trip, but I feel like I would have done better with a pair of Blundstones or a similar Chelsea style boot. I also wish I could find a more casual looking "technical" jacket for daily wear, but the options are limited from what I can find. I think I could have dropped the iPad too, although it didn't take up a whole lot of space and was great for editing photos in downtime or reading on the plane. The Mijia shaver was okay but not amazing.

2023.05.30 16:36 Proper-Blackberry706 Anyone not looking forward to graduation?
Not graduating this year, but seeing everyone post makes me dread graduation. Does anyone feel the same?
The idea doesn’t excite me, and I honestly think I wouldn’t mind skipping the ceremony entirely.
I feel like university life has been pretty bleak, and I don’t know how to make the most of it anymore.
I’m disappointed that it wasn’t the dream experience I anticipated when I graduated high school, but that’s partly my fault.
I’d hate to think these are considered some of the best years in life cause they felt more like the worst so far, lol.

| https://preview.redd.it/z82bw5gtaz2b1.png?width=972&format=png&auto=webp&s=a939d6e8c61af798fbfdc67f40fc3a64d65d7aec VANCOUVER, BC / THENEWSWIRE / May 30, 2023 – Element 79 Gold Corp. (CSE:ELEM) (OTC:ELMGF) (FSE: 7YS) (" Element 79 Gold", the " Company") announces that, further to its November 17, 2022 release announcing that the Company had entered into a non-binding letter of intent (the “Valdo LOI”) with Valdo Minerals Ltd. (“Valdo”), the parties have mutually agreed to a 60-day extension to the exclusivity period to enter into a definitive agreement for the sale of three properties from its Battle Mountain Portfolio located in the northeastern Nevada, US. The other terms of the LOI, as announced by the Company on November 17, 2022, remain unchanged. Proposed Transaction Highlights - Valdo to acquire 100% interests and obligation in:
- The North Mill Creek Project - comprised of 6 unpatented claims located at the margins of the Goat Window in Lander County, Nevada, an exposure of lower plate rocks beneath the Roberts Mountains Thrust, the preferred carbonate host of Carlin-type gold deposits.
- The Elder Creek Project - comprised of 23 unpatented claims, which cover the historic Elder Creek open-pit mine in Lander County, Nevada, hosted in upper plate rocks where the mine area is believed to represent leakage from the deeper lower plate of the Roberts Mountains Thrust.
- The Elephant Project - comprised of 197 claims located at the foot of the mine dumps at Nevada Gold Mines' Phoenix operation hosting a covered pediment target with various depths of cover based on the displacement of fault blocks.
- Valdo to issue 3,750,000 common shares at a deemed price of $0.30 CAD per share representing an aggregate value of CAD 1,125,000.
- According to the revised exclusivity period, the transaction is expected to close by July 15, 2023.
“As we progressed toward the initial term of the LOI, Valdo expressed a desire for an extension as they finalize their project structuring and capitalization plans,” said James Tworek, Element79 Gold Corp CEO. “Our collaboration with Valdo holds great promise, spurred by their continued interest in how the optioned portfolio synergizes with their other regionally adjacent projects, we are confident that this extension will pave the way for a successful closing and strong Valdo story in the future.” Element79 Gold’s Battle Mountain Portfolio The Battle Mountain Portfolio was originally comprised of 15 separate projects totaling over 44,478 acres across 2,203 unpatented claims in five counties: Elko County, Eureka County, Humboldt County, Lander County, and Nye County. Most of the Battle Mountain Portfolio is located within the Battle Mountain Trend, with several projects close to globally reputable gold deposits including Nevada Gold's Cortez Mine. The Battle Mountain Portfolio is comprised primarily of early-stage projects. While drilling has been completed at some projects, such as Elder Creek (155 holes) and Clover (104 holes), many have only surface sampling and geophysical surveys completed. Of particular note are the Long Peak, Elephant, Elder Creek, North Mill Creek, Clipper, Pipeline South, West Cortez, and Walti Projects, which are interpreted to lie along the northwest trending fault that hosts the high-grade Pipeline deposit, which is included in Nevada Gold's Cortez Mine. Qualified Person The technical information in this release has been reviewed and verified by Neil Pettigrew, M.Sc., P. Geo., Director of Element79 Gold and a "qualified person" as defined by National Instrument 43-101. About Element79 Gold Element79 Gold is a mining company focused on gold, silver and associated metals and committed to maximizing shareholder value through responsible mining practices and sustainable development of its projects. Element79 Gold's main focus is on two core properties: developing its previously-producing, high-grade gold and silver mine, the Lucero project located in Arequipa, Peru, with the intent to bring it back into production in the near term; and its flagship Maverick Springs Project located in the famous gold mining district of northeastern Nevada, USA, between the Elko and White Pine Counties. Maverick Springs hosts a 43-101-compliant, pit-constrained mineral resource estimate reflecting an inferred resource of 3.71 million ounces of gold equivalent "AuEq" at a grade of 0.92 g/t AuEq (0.34 g/t Au and 43.4 g/t Ag) with an effective date of October 19, 2022. The acquisition of the Maverick Springs Project also included a portfolio of 15 properties along the Battle Mountain trend in Nevada, which are non-core to its primary business focus. In British Columbia, Element79 Gold has executed a Letter of Intent and funded a drilling program to acquire a private company that holds the option to 100% interest of the Snowbird High-Grade Gold Project, which consists of 10 mineral claims located in Central British Columbia, approximately 20km west of Fort St. James. The Company also has an option to acquire a 100% interest in the Dale Property, 90 unpatented mining claims located approximately 100 km southwest of Timmins, Ontario, Canada in the Timmins Mining Division, Dale Township. The Company is analyzing the non-core Nevada projects, The Dale Property and Snowbird Property for further merit of exploration, sale or spin-out. ### Background I started running in 2020 as a way of losing weight (38M 6’3” 220lb) and became hooked. I ran a few short distance races and soon found that I preferred the longer stuff.
I ran my first marathon which was Edinburgh in 2022 (4:09:XX) off the back of Hal Higdon and really struggled with that race. The wheels came off and I bonked hard. Up until that point, I assumed that bonking was a feeling of fatigue and was not prepared for the bleak, negative, end-of-the-world emotions that came along with it.
I did not feel proud about completing my first marathon because deep down I knew I had more to give. How could I be satisfied with a goal of simply finishing when I had invested so much mental and physical energy. I promised myself that I would learn from the experience and come back stronger in 2023. Reading your race reports has provided invaluable knowledge.
I ran two further marathons in 2022 with a modified Hal Higdon plan to increase training volume, the first one being London (3:49 - a huge PB) and the second just two weeks later setting another PB of 3:43. I felt proud of those performances and realised I could do even better if I could increase endurance and prevent my pace from dropping off after the 20 mile mark.
In 2023 (two weeks ago) I ran the Leeds marathon and treated this as my ‘B Race’ from a performance perspective. The route has around 1,500ft of elevation so not PB territory. Like everyone, I ran this race in support of Rob Burrow / Motor Neurone Disease and it was a special occasion. I ran a strong first half and then eased off finishing in 3:58 and barely reflected on my performance. This event was about so much more for everyone involved.
Two weeks later, onto Edinburgh for redemption!
### Training In January 2023 I decided to run Pfitz 18/55 and peaked around 63 miles. I lost 2 or so weeks due to illness and overall stuck to 80-90% of the prescribed mileage. I didn’t hit every LT, Vo2 and MP workout but stuck to the core principles of long/medium/short distances and fast/slow paces. My weight reduced from 212lbs to 205lbs. I saw my LT improve (according to Garmin at least) which gave a good indication that things were improving compared to my readings from the previous year.
Once again I would be running two marathons two weeks apart through circumstance rather than design. I was lucky enough to be accepted into London last year and decided to stick with my ‘backup race’ two weeks after that. This year, I wanted redemption at Edinburgh but couldn’t resist running to raise money for MND in Leeds.
Of course performance compromises are to be expected in taking this approach but there are also positives. It takes away the pressure of having to nail a single race on the back of a long training block and squeezing two performances out of a single training block gives more bang-for-buck, at least in terms of experience .
### Pre-race I slept well the night before the race and woke up around 7:30am, ate a large bowl of overnight oats, drank a coffee, applied a generous amount of lubrication, kitted up and then headed to the event. This moment always feels like Christmas Eve to me. You know what you’ve asked for but you’re not quite sure if you’ll get it.
### Race Garmin race predictor had me at 3:40 which tied in nicely with my goal of sub-3:40 so I set my watch for 3:39. I brought along 8 SiS gels (the beta variety due to their higher carb content). I had one at the start line then planned to have one every 30 mins. I’m a bigger guy and need to keep on top of fuelling. I took two electrolyte tabs and two caffeine tabs along to have 1.5 & 2.5 hours into the race.
Miles 1-5 The first 5 or so miles at Edinburgh are mostly downhill to sea-level and it’s hard not to let it fly. I hit a couple of sub 8 min/mi’s during this section (which I had no business doing) but I didn’t want to hammer my quads by braking too much.
Miles 6-13 This next section takes you out along the coast where you spend the majority of the race. Back in 2022 I really didn’t enjoy this because the crowds are smaller, there are fewer distractions etc. This time I really enjoyed it. The sun was shining with a gentle breeze and I felt as though I got the first half for ‘free’. My HR was Z2/Z3 and I had built up a useful buffer of 2-3 minutes.
Miles 14-18 At mile 15 I decided to spend 30 seconds of my buffer on a toilet break. Still out on the coast, you hit the loop-back at around mile 18 and enter the grounds of Gosford House (an old stately home). It’s a really nice part of the course but there’s a section on loose gravel which isn’t much fun. I winced at the AFs, VFs, Elites etc getting chewed up. Last year the death-march had well and truly started by this point. Today, I felt really strong and in control. My HR was now in Z3/Z4 but I had a good sense of how close to push it to the edge and was still managing the race well enough.
Miles 19-21 I usually dread this stage but flew through miles 19, 20 and 21 still feeling strong, giving out high-fives to the kids, smiling for photos etc. For the first time in a marathon I started passing lots of other runners and it felt incredible. I didn’t have any of the usual brain fog, I didn’t need to walk, I didn’t curse myself for signing up to the event. All is well.
Miles 22-26.2 I finally felt like I was working for it. Not ‘Z5-working-for-it’ but my pace had dropped off and I was fighting to get my cadence back. I felt like my feet were hitting the ground for about 3 seconds of contact time before turning over but in reality I was still good. I set a small goal of keeping all remaining miles sub 9min. In reality, I could have kicked harder in the final two miles but I was good with uncomfortably hard and didn’t want to tip it over the edge. I saw a few runners needing medical attention which was enough for me to look at my watch and realise that with a final kick down the finish line, I would achieve my goal.
### Post-race I hit 3:39 and felt a real sense of satisfaction. It wasn't like London where I ran out of my skin, pulled a PB from god-knows-where, and shouted in disbelief as I crossed the finish line. This time, I looked at my time and was left feeling as though I had claimed what was rightfully mine. I lay on the grass with my family, sipped on a beer, closed my eyes and felt a wave of endorphins flowing all over as I heard my kids playing in the background. This is why we do it, my mind is totally empty, the sun is screaming down on my face and my body is dissolving into the earth below. Job done.
### What next? I have now done 5 marathons in my first two years and have gained so much. I'm a late bloomer but I’m now a truly happy person and my family has gained the best version of their Dad/husband. I have my first 50k fell run coming up (or ultra, depending on your persuasion) and will then build towards another event in Oct-Nov.
I will run Pfitz again but need to focus on losing more weight and strengthening my posterior chain as I have noticed in race photos that when I’m fatigued, my torso collapses forwards which means I am no longer running with my hips forward and chest high. I think that 3:35 is well within my sights, 3:30 would be incredible and anything faster than that would be a dream.

2023.05.30 16:24 Picklesadog Bathroom remodeling company sent new terms and conditions to sign and is threatening to cancel our project if we do not sign [California]
We signed a contract with a bathroom remodeling company, paid the down-payment in September 2022, and paid the rest of the cost earlier this year. The company is supposed to buy materials, design the bathroom, and then deal with and pay the contractor.
Now, nearing the date of the actual work, they sent an email saying they are changing how it works "due to customer feedback" and will refund the money that goes to the general contractor and we will pay the general contractor directly.
We do not want to do this as we are pretty sure this is their way to get out of price increases, passing those increases onto the customer.
We have told them we will not sign and will keep our original contract.
They have almost cut contact since then, and are now threatening to cancel the whole project if we do not sign.
Can they do this? This just seems completely wrong, especially considering our garage is full of the material for the bathroom remodel.
I will most likely be reaching out to lawyers today but that's a headache we don't really want to deal with.

2023.05.30 16:24 GroovyVoodoo 23 years old with no money, no job, no goals/direction. Looking for advice or stories from people who were once in a similar situation.
I moved to a different country for university at 18, graduated with a bachelors degree in business and marketing (didn’t really like it), worked some unskilled temp jobs and now I’m having to move back home as I have no longer have a job and have no money.
I have no idea what to do next. Being at home makes me absolutely miserable as I can’t drive which just makes me feel trapped. Most of my friends have left my hometown and have landed good jobs which makes me feel even worse about my current situation.
I’ve thought about so many different careers; IT, finance, physiotherapy, and learning a trade are just some of the ideas that have popped into my head recently, but then I get discouraged at the education/experience needed to get a start in some of these fields.
I know I need to make a decision but I feel like I’m just so scared of picking the “wrong” option and wasting even more time, that I end up doing nothing and, ironically, waste my time. Any advice would be much appreciated.
TL;DR - moving back home with no money, a bachelors degree in an area I’m not particularly interested in, and no idea what my next step is

2023.05.30 16:23 Hibee1123 AITA for thinking my cousin shouldn't walk around in underwear around my boyfriend?
I (F 18) and my boyfriend (M 20) have been dating for a year and a half. We are currently ling distance and have been visiting eachother about once every month or two. He has only met my extended family about three times. He is very shy and antisocial and usually doesn't make much conversation with them, especially when it comes to my cousins. My cousin (F 17) and I are best friends, we went to school together before I graduated and I lived with her parents and and her for about 3 months because of issues I had first when trying to move to a new state. Now I know she walks around in underwear at her own house which I don't have a problem with at all. We went to my grandmas house for a big get-together. Most of my extended family was there and my cousin brought her girlfriend while I brought my boyfriend. Me and my boyfriend couldnt sleep in a room like she could so we had to sleep in the living room. She doesn't know my boyfriend that well at all. Yet every morning she would walk around in her underwear for hours in the living room. And one time she even went as far as running her hands down her stomach and into her underwear which made him unconfortable so he just starred at me until she walked away. I'm not saying she did this on purpose to seduce my boyfriend or anything like that. I simply think that if you had a stranger staying in the same house as you, you wouldn't wanna walk around in your underwear. I'm not jealous, I just don't want my boyfriend to have a tainted picture of my family. It made my boyfriend uncomfortable which is the opposite of what I want him to feel when he's around my family.

2023.05.30 16:23 Im-a-molecule [Artist Spotlight] - Kim Gordon
Kim Gordon rock indie punk
Similar Artists A musician, visual artist, and writer who questions consumerism and women's place in society with a keen eye and poetic detail, Kim Gordon first came to prominence as the bassist/vocalist for Sonic Youth. During her time with that band, her smoky, half-spoken, half-sung vocals and feminist viewpoint added depth to their experimental rock and made her a major figure on the American indie rock scene from the '80s onward. A small handful of her standout moments include "Shadow of a Doubt" from 1986's EVOL; the Karen Carpenter homage "Tunic" and Chuck D collaboration "Kool Thing" from 1990's Goo; and the Kim Deal duet "Little Trouble Girl" from 1995's Washing Machine. In addition, she made a name for herself as an inventive collaborator with Pussy Galore's Julia Cafritz as Free Kitten and in projects with artists such as Ikue Mori and Yoko Ono that strengthened her ties to the avant-garde. Her work as a fashion designer and producer also hinted at the breadth of her talent; after Sonic Youth disbanded in 2011, she branched out even further. Gordon pursued the career as a visual artist that she put on hold while changing the sound of underground rock, and became a best-selling author with her 2015 memoir Girl in a Band. With guitarist Bill Nace, she dove into the most free-form side of her music as Body/Head on exploratory albums including 2018's The Switch. Four decades after she began making music, her 2019 solo debut, No Home Record, proved her juxtapositions of subversive commentary with experimental and pop sounds were as trenchant as ever.
Born in Rochester, New York, on April 28, 1953, Kim Gordon moved to Los Angeles at age five, when her sociology professor father took a job at UCLA. While growing up, she attended University Elementary School and University High School, both of which were progressive institutions associated with UCLA. After completing high school, Gordon studied at Santa Monica College for a couple of years before she transferred to Toronto's York University. In 1974, while in Toronto, Gordon formed a short-lived band with fellow art students, but the group broke up after a single show at the Ann Arbor Film Festival. However, being so far away from home -- and the California sunshine -- wore on her, so she returned and enrolled in L.A.'s Otis Art Institute, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1977.
To follow her dream of becoming a visual artist, Gordon moved to New York City in 1980. Along with making herself a fixture of the city's art scene -- she wrote articles for Artforum and worked for the art dealer Larry Gagosian -- she also immersed herself in New York's no wave music scene. Emboldened by no wave's eagerness to crush accepted musical boundaries -- and having just come into possession of a well-worn guitar -- Gordon partnered with Christine Hahn and Stanton Miranda to form the band CKM. It was through Miranda that she met fellow aspiring noise musician Thurston Moore; the pair began dating (and eventually married in 1984). They soon made their partnership creative as well as romantic: with guitarist Lee Ranaldo, Gordon and Moore formed Sonic Youth in 1981. When drummer Steve Shelley joined in 1986, the lineup of one of alternative rock's most influential bands was complete.
Sonic Youth became an underground institution, releasing 22 studio albums between 1982 and 2009. Gordon's bass playing, aloof-yet-fierce vocals, and songwriting -- which dealt with feminism in both practical and abstract terms -- were as fundamental to the band's music as their inventive use of alternate tunings, dissonance, and feedback and subversive use of pop melodies and hooks. As Sonic Youth's popularity crested in the late '80s and '90s thanks to acclaimed albums like 1988's Daydream Nation, 1990's Goo, and 1992's Dirty, Gordon branched out into other projects. She published magazine pieces that included a tour diary entitled "Boys Are Smelly" that ran in The Village Voice in 1988, and an interview with LL Cool J that ran in Spin in 1989. Among her other musical endeavors were Harry Crews, a collaboration with Lydia Lunch that produced 1989's Naked in Garden Hills. Free Kitten, a group she formed with Julia Cafritz of Pussy Galore, was an ongoing project that started in 1992 and issued several albums, among them 1995's Nice Ass, 1997's Sentimental Education, and 2008's Inherit. In 1991, Gordon helped produce the first album by Hole, Pretty on the Inside. She also expanded into clothing design, launching the fashion line X-Girl with stylist Daisy von Furth in 1993.
Later in the '90s and into the 2000s, when Sonic Youth's music returned to its experimental roots on albums such as Washing Machine and Murray St., the scope of Gordon's side projects continued to broaden. She exhibited her art more frequently, with pieces including Kim's Bedroom, which was presented at MU in the Netherlands in 2000, and Reverse Karaoke, an installation she created with artist Jutta Koether for the 2005 London exhibition Her Noise. She tried her hand at acting, appearing in productions like Gus Van Sant's 2005 film Last Days and Todd Haynes' 2007 Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There. She also launched MirroDash, a limited-edition fashion line, in 2008.
In the 2010s, Gordon experienced personal as well as artistic transformation. Late in 2011, she and Moore announced their impending divorce, and Sonic Youth's São Paulo date that November was the band's final concert. One of the former couple's last projects, the Yoko Ono collaboration YOKOKIMTHURSTON, appeared in early 2012. During this time, Gordon was successfully treated for DCIS breast cancer. She continued to perform, touring with Ikue Mori and founding the duo Body/Head with guitarist Bill Nace. The project's first album, Coming Apart, arrived in 2013; that year, she also had multiple exhibitions of her artwork in the United States and the United Kingdom. Gordon's acting career flourished, as she appeared in projects ranging from the cable television shows Girls and Portlandia to the German horror film The Nightmare. In February 2015, she published her memoir Girl in a Band, which became a New York Times best-seller. She closed the year by moving from Massachusetts back to Los Angeles.
In 2016, the self-titled debut album from Glitterbust, her duo with Tomorrows Tulips' Alex Knost, appeared, along with the Body/Head live album No Waves. That year also saw the release of "Murdered Out," her looping, gritty debut single as a solo artist. Following Body/Head's 2018 album The Switch, roles on the HBO TV series Animals and in the Van Sant film Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, and exhibitions at Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum and Dublin's Irish Museum of Modern Art, in October 2019 Gordon released her debut album, No Home Record. Taking its name from director Chantal Akerman's film No Home Movie, Gordon recorded the album with producers Justin Raisen and Shawn Everett as well as composer Jake Meginsky.

2023.05.30 16:16 Necessary-Row965 I want to break NC, here’s my BU story
Here is some context. We broke up about a little less than a month ago and I honestly don’t know who broke up with him. He started acting weird for a little bit and I was away from home so I texted him why he was acting so weird he said we could talk about it when you get home and I kind of got upset which was dramatic of me and I said just text it to me or don’t talk to me at all and I blocked him on social media and messages the unlocked him afterwards. knowing that I am a little dramatic for doing so. I also gave him all his stuff back that was at my house, and I gave him even gifts that he gave to me. It know again super dramatic.
Come to realize after unblocking him he had me blocked too. I then went to messages and realize I was blocked on there too trying to contact him so I ended up emailing him to unblock my number so we can talk. I went away for another weekend because I do competitions and we still haven’t talked I said let’s FaceTime and he said the reason why he was acting where is because we weren’t spending enough time together which doesn’t make any sense to me because when he started acting weird, he would not want to do things together. He wouldn’t want to come over my house and he didn’t even text. Good morning. Good night or even say, I love you. He also did not want to sleep over my house at would just leave in the middle of the night. Which I thought was so weird.
After bickering a while, text I said we can be done since you want to act like a child not really meaning it. I feel like girls say those things just out of anger and it was my first time acting saying that throughout our 4 years relationship. Am I wrong for saying that but after saying that he didn’t even put up a fight, he just was OK with it and I sent multiple paragraphs saying goodbye saying I don’t want this saying I love you and he was just responded like nothing no reaction no I love you back or let’s fight for us. This was our first actual fight. I hate myself because I still love him.
I know we are both in the wrong but I feel like some part of me that he doesn’t even care. After sending those text messages saying that I don’t want this and that I love you and I want you back I said let’s meet up to talk multiple times and he said there’s nothing to talk about. I don’t understand how there’s nothing to talk about after texting him over the course of three days and no response. I just realized I was ghosted and stop texting. That was May 17.
My birthday was May 20 and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I went to text him and the messages were green so I assumed I was blocked again. So I emailed him one last time on the 21st saying I need to talk to somebody and that I still love him and I want to be friends. He actually responded and said that we should probably not be friends until a while. He also said happy birthday and congratulations on graduating because I graduated in 23rd, which was another horrible day by the way.
We were together for four years we were teens. I was 18 when we started dating he was my first love, so I don’t know how to cope. I’ve been really suicidal, which is nothing new for me because I do suffer from depression and bipolar disorder, but the feeling now is so much more intense. He was there for me for my first attempt to so he saw what I went through and he just left me, I hate him for it. Some part of me still wants to get back together and I still have hope. Should I break nc.

2023.05.30 16:14 MNLYYZYEG Shows like Love Village (Ai no Sato), Ainori, et cetera
Now that the Love Village has completed its first season, it might be another year or so for another season or for Ainori Love Wagon's return.
I wrote a reference post with lots of past thread links (I really gotta centralize or just group it together as some people got angry at me for having so much reddit thread links (because of spam/etc. especially for the mobile users instead of the old.reddit.com or RES (
/Enhancement) users), like they want me to put it on my profile instead with just 1 thread link), so click through there if you want a bit more info on the shows and so that it's not such a blind watch.
Don't worry, I rarely ever spoil the shows and it'll probably be safe to browse through the majority of those past threads/comments. Just be aware that it's often super long posts though.
Anyway, here's the shows like Love Village, Ainori, et cetera on the
/ainori subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/ainori/comments/13vqxt6/ai_no_sato_love_village_ainori_successor_episode/ Basically for travelling there's this Korean variety show called Love Me Actually (from 2019).
And there's also like this Chinese version of Ainori Love Wagon, except it's for Chinese university students, it's called
Twinkle Love (怦然心动20岁), and Season 3 just started, Episode 2 should be out this Wednesday or so on the YOUKU Youtube channel with English subtitles.
For actual dating shows with older or more mature housemates, there's like:
I Am Solo/나는 SOLO (/IamSolo); Relationship S3/Let's Fall In Love Season 3 (我们恋爱吧 第三季); Shanghai Sharelife (/Shanghaisharelife), Chinese version of Terrace House; and so on.
I Am Solo is available on Viki/KOCOWA/etc.
Relationship S3/Let's Fall In Love Season 3 is available on YOUKU's Youtube channel with English subs too.
For Shanghai Sharelife, it's also on YOUKU's channel but you need to go through Amara for proper English subtitles by ShibaSubs:
https://www.reddit.com/terracehouse/comments/10e0lg5/that_girl_who_was_obsessed_with_the_noodle_museum/j4oimk9/ Chinese dating shows, Chinese/Korean/etc. idols in dating shows, upcoming Korean/Japanese/etc. Netflix dating shows, et cetera:
https://www.reddit.com/koreanvariety/comments/12qlu3e/its_just_my_impression_or_the_are_really_few/jgqusuv/ and
https://www.reddit.com/kpop/comments/12qj8cc/oh_my_girls_mimi_confirmed_to_join_heart_signal_4/jgqzu8i/ Oh and Heart Signal 4 (하트시그널4) is like on Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, etc. now, so it's more accessible to other people.
Heart Signal 4 seems like it'll have an older cast this time around, so it should be more mature and laidback too.
Btw, they changed the schedule of Heart Signal 4 from every Wednesday (competing against I Am Solo, and Heart Signal 4 got really low ratings right now) to now every Friday instead.
Where to watch Kdramas, Korean variety shows, and so on (basically Viki, VIU, Disney+, Netflix, et cetera, might need VPNs): https://www.reddit.com/koreanvariety/comments/10fpzhx/overall_thoughts_on_love_catcher_in_bali/j5cmhaw/ and https://www.reddit.com/koreanvariety/comments/13bmtin/anyone_know_where_can_i_watch_the_below_korean/jjbtnuz/

2023.05.30 16:14 Gallagher908 Same Sorority as Job Recruiter
Hey y’all! I recently graduated and I’m searching for jobs in the legal field. I found the LinkedIn of a recruiter I’m interested in reaching out to and I noticed she was in the same sorority at a different University. Would it be appropriate or advantageous to connect on that in my email or LinkedIn message? Does anyone have any experience with this? My sorority leadership is on my resume, but I’m trying to go the extra step (really need a job lol)

2023.05.30 16:13 fuzziekittens A set of poems that have helped with my grief.
Growing up so disconnected from my emotions, I frequently need pieces of media to help me through my grief. I love spoken word poetry and I wanted to share two poems by Andrea Gibson. While they are both called The Call, they are very different from each other and I have related to both in different stages of my healing. I hope they help you.
THE CALL, OPTION 1
I pay seventeen dollars online to track down the phone number
of the man who sexually assaulted me, and my friend asks, "What
do you plan to say?"
I'll tell him I know he lost
all his money gambling
and was forced
to sell the building
where he did what he did.
I'll tell him karma is a hell
of a feminist.
I'll tell him my silence
was his worst bet.
I'll tell him I'm watching
him through the bullet hole
he left in my childhood,
and if he comes within
two hundred miles
of a child's trust, my body
will start bleeding his name
all over Main Street in his middle-
of-somewhere town.
I'll tell him
he's the middle of nowhere:
a man with no stop
lights, the kind of place kids grow up
desperate to escape. I'll tell him
as soon as I got out,
I imagined him sanding off
his fingerprints, the guilt
filing him down to half his size.
When I met him,
he was the biggest man
in town, had set records
in the deadlift, was as old
as my father. I weighed
ninety-six pounds, was still
spending sleepovers practicing
how to kiss. I'll tell him how big
I am now. So big
I could make his address
the title of my next book,
and yes, I think he asked for it.
Asked me to play hangman
with his name on the local news,
asked me to spray paint ME TOO
across his pickup truck
and say, I dare you
to compare property damage
with someone you made property.
With someone whose puberty
you mutilated.
I'll say, Trauma
is a pretty word for how to die
every day of the year,
but my voice is alive
and right now it is the only justice
system I trust
to ensure men like you
understand the law
of gravity, understand
you will always be held down
by what you held down.
There is no such thing as rising
from someone else's ashes.
No man's spirit escapes the hell
he denies putting a child through,
which is to say, I am the only one
out of the two of us who survived
you, and I survived you
so beautifully. Even on my worst days,
my scars are the backroads
where kids sneak out their windows
and drive through the night
to hear poetry. I am so much
of who I dreamed I'd be
when I grew up, and what
does the boy you once were
think of the man you became?
A man running
from his own name.
A man who must wake
fifty times a night, terrified
the truth is somewhere breaking
from its chains and racing
for the world's ear.
When the truth gets there, will you try
to tell your friends I wanted it?
Will you try to tell your wife
how old of a soul I was?
At thirteen? At thirteen,
I had the youngest soul
in the universe.
I was so brand new
I thought reincarnation
was a flower I would wear
on my wrist
if someday someone asked me
to the ninth-grade dance.
I'd stand in my full-length mirror
and practice not blushing
when a slow song came on.
That's how old I was.
That's the kind of man you were.
The kind of man who makes children
grow up and search
for your phone number,
our bodies riddled with the wish
that all the records will say:
No one by that name exists.
THE CALL, OPTION 2
I pay seventeen dollars online to track down the phone number of the man who sexually
assaulted me, and my friend asks, "What do you plan to say?"
There is a world in which you did not touch me.
A world in which you thought about touching me
and were so nightmared by your own mind
you climbed inside your skull and bloodied your knees
crawling across the tundra of your history,
turning over every rock to chase out every worm
that might trick you into believing anything
could be cut in half and keep living.
There is a world in which you saw
how easily you could become an ax
splitting the personalities of children,
so swore your fingerprints
would be like the rings of trees, that your growth
could be counted on. In this world you have
groomed no one, and I am made of flyaways-
gleefully unclipped, wholly uncombed through,
braiding myself around a song, certain
I've invented dancing. Look at me
still calling you a hero. You built my trust
and never became the quake of earth
that shattered my foundation. Look at you
mothering your own nature, calling yourself home
at the first sign of dark. In this world you might
still be poor but not where it counts.
You might have still lost all your money,
but look at what you saved: Me
and Her and Her and Her and Her and Her
and the child you once were-how proud
he is to see who he's become. In this world
you still have secrets, but they are like my father's
secrets. The ones he doesn't know I know.
The ones my grandma told me: how he stayed
home nearly every weekend of high school
to keep my grandfather's drunken fist from the glass
of her jaw, how good my father was at pretending
he didn't love the movies, hadn't saved
all summer to buy a secondhand suit
for his first school dance. There is a world
in which you, too, only lie to save someone's life,
a world where you still live a stone's throw
from Canada but walk the river's shore never plotting
how you'd swim to freedom, never practicing
the backstroke of denial, never hoping I drowned
the letters you wrote me when I was graduating
eighth grade and you were forty and marrying
someone you said would never be your type.
The first time I called, your wife answered
the phone. I hung up, not strong enough
to be like you to throw a brick through
a woman's chest and have no doubts about it
being the right move, but there is a world
in which the truth is as soft as the pillow
that holds your wife's head when she dreams
about the day you met. In this world you wake up
before she does, make her coffee, read her horoscope
and forget to read your own. Where you stand behind her
when she looks in the mirror, tell her she's grown
more gorgeous every one of her sixty-seven years,
how you feel like the richest man in town
with your hands in the silver
of her hair. In this world I celebrate the news
of you having a daughter, a granddaughter, a niece.
In this world I don't panic when I see a pink tricycle
in your neighbor's driveway
as I'm driving to meet friends at the riverfront,
my hometown still a home you never haunted.
I roll the window down, holler your name
into the autumn air. You look up
from raking a pile of golden leaves, smile
and wave back to me. Can you see it?
I know you can. Everyone can
see who they were supposed to be.
It's the readiest grief in the world.

2023.05.30 16:13 mikaylaaaa102 Terminated for Gross Misconduct..
so i was working at walmart for 1 year and almost 2 months, around march of this year i was terminated for opening a redbull in the store and before the store/registers opened.
so i got into a car accident in december 2022 and it was on the way to work, i slid on black ice in my jeep and my jeep hit a guardrail and flipped 3x. i was out for 2-3 weeks but never taken off the schedule and sedgwick never approved my claim because they kept messing up the date so my coach took them off with proof of the police report.
January 2023, i got covid from work and didn’t know until i went in and couldn’t lift anything and felt weak constantly and i clocked out and told my team leads. that leave was approved ASAP
February 2023, i got the stomach virus and was hospitalized because of how low my levels were and how weak i was.
March 2023 comes by and at the beginning of the 20th i started feeling weak and out of it, i went into work still and could barely drive to work and at 5:15 i opened an energy drink because i thought i was just tired or my blood sugar was low but i was going to pay for it but by 5:55 the ambulance was called and my team leads were with me and gave me water and a snack from the shelves. 6:05 i was taken by the ambulance in front of walmart and no one by the front registers (self checkout and cashier registers) so i couldn’t pay for it also. i vividly still remember it was sitting in the back room and i ran to my sister to call the ambulance because i was scared i was going to pass out or something bad during work.
That week i came back and 1 hour before i had to leave for the end of shift i was pulled into the office, i was told that i’m not a bad person blah blah and that people who steal aren’t horrible. they said that i’m a good worker and such then said that i’m being terminated and that they have cameras of what i’ve done but i’ve never stole, i barely even shop at walmart because i just wanna leave by the time i clock in, all i do is buy redbulls so i can function at work. (also why i feel weak, tired and sad was is because of stress and the car accident and when i was taken to the hospital that day they told me that)
they put me as non rehirable and gross misconduct on my termination paper for a 8oz redbull that i was going to pay for, it was so hard to even get a job and the look on people’s faces when i tell them what happened made me feel shitty.
i still have bad dreams about how it happened/ how that store was ran and how i could’ve done things differently because i felt like they were always out to get me especially my girl team leads and some coworkers . i feel like their has to be a way for me to be rehired or something because i still feel like i was taken advantage of and my financial support was taken away from me, i can’t pay my car insurance now and my bills (i was also denied unemployment). suck situation that i’ve never been in for my 10 years+ of working
