2023.06.02 13:40 deberham I finally had a day without a loss
I got into FOREX after dabbling in stocks for several years and never being very successful. A friend of mine asked if I was in FOREX and after saying no she suggested that I try it. After dropping several thousand to play with I was in... and I lost. Again and again and again. Losing trade after losing trade I kept chasing what I KNEW was going to be a winning bet. Looking at the 1 minute, 5 minute, 15 minute, etc I kept making very poor choices. Yesterday, after losing 93% of my account value I finally had a day where I came out technically ahead. Now, to be fair I have been improving since starting. I had slowed the cash hemorrhage and instead of losing up to 20% of my account value (that hurt) I had been down to losing 1-2% daily. Ultimately, after reading posts on this forum, I stopped chasing the short term wins; I just don't have the time or aptitude for it. Instead I started looking at the 1h and 4h charts and looking for trends which is ultimately what slowed my losses. I know a single day does not indicate long term success but after so many losses it was a much needed win.
Lessons I have learned the hard way:
You will not get rich quick. As others have stated you have a better chance at Vegas than getting hitting that big win. Be careful if you do hit it. Your strategy that got you there does not necessarily mean that you have a good plan and could have easily left you with a big loss.
Set a stop loss. Seriously, set one. Everyone says it and for me it was a very costly lesson to learn.
Don't be greedy. All trends will end. Watch where things have been going and take profit when appropriate as your wins can quickly evaporate.
Do not try to chase the bottom or top of a trend. Hitting it exactly is next to impossible and sometimes close enough is good enough.
Do not bet everything on a single play, there's nothing worse than a margin call before the reversal that you anticipated. A temporary loss is okay and you must budget for it.
Do not be emotional. If you lose it's okay. It's not okay to keep chasing the loss by throwing money at a trend that you just know will change (it often times doesn't).
Don't be in a hurry. A proper set up may take hours or days to present itself. You have more time than money.
I'm sure that I will learn more and I will likely lose more. I am very new to this and retrospectively had I read what I just wrote when I first started would likely have not changed my initial strategy. In my hubris I knew that I would be successful where so many others had failed or struggled. If you are new please do not learn with money you cannot lose. Paper trading in the beginning would have been the wiser move but I think there is something to be said about psychology of risk involved with losing actual money. Good luck to all

So, I (43) met this 30-year old female through a mutual friend and we hit it off. We actually had sex fairly quickly into the relationship. At first we used condoms but by week 3 we stopped.
We've been seeing each other for about 3 months and having sex oral/vaginal probably 2x per week.
She finally told me the other day that a married man she was dating in the recent past had told her he had HSV-2. She stopped seeing him but had had unprotected sex with him several times for many months. She then dated a second guy and he too told her he had been told by his ex that she had tested positive for HSV-2, but he has never been tested. She broke up with him, but had had sex with him 4 times (oral and vaginal). She also said she believes she has had HSV-1 for years as she get cold sores when she is stressed but has never had a HSV-2 genital outbreak. On top of that she also had been getting regular gynecological visits for HPV concerns.
She went and got tested. The results for HPV came back "in normal ranges with no heightened concern" and "positive for exposure to both HSV-1 and 2." She showed me the test, which I really didn't understand. It showed percentage values and they seemed pretty low. She also said her doctor told her HSV tests are not standard in panels because they are so unreliable. I think she is using this as an excuse to be in denial.
The only possible symptoms I've experienced was about 2 weeks after our we first started having sex I had maybe 7 very small blisters on my buttocks. They we not closely grouped. They were more in a line and I thought it was poison ivy or a rash from laundry detergent or sweating. The had no pain, no ulcers, no oozing and were gone in 3 days. No other rashes or blisters since. However, I now regularly feel as though my buttocks is slightly sunburned all over, but zero symptoms around my genital area.
She says the odds of me contracting HSV-2 from her is extremely low because she has never had an outbreak and isn't even convinced she has it because her doctor said the test only means she was exposed at some point to the virus.
I'm trying to decide how concerned I should be and if I should get tested. I've decided to not continue the relationship with her and won't get into another one until I feel fully informed.

Could someone please help me? This is for an assignment, I'm very desperate. I've realised there's something wrong with my data in R Studio. All I'm trying to do is merge two data sets from Gapminder on R studio but for some reason the merged data is has missing data. All I want to do is merge Income and Life Expectancy. But once I merge, countries like Australia are missing and this affects my analysis.
In excel I can see that there is complete data for GDP and Life expectancy for every country. when I import the data, I can see that the countries are all there still, and I've transformed my gdp and income dataframes from wide to long format using pivot_longer().
I've created two new datasets, "income_clean" and "likeExp_clean" using the long format data, and all I did was filter years between 1968 - 2023 for both data sets and drop na. As individual data sets I can see observations for Australia and Austria. When I merge the data sets all of a sudden there is no data for Australia, and several other countries. A quick summary shows the largest value for income is $10,000 when I can see on excel it's well above $60,000. The maximum life expectancy for Australia before merging was 83.5 years, but my merged dataset has 79.1 as the maximum value for the lifeExp column in the merged data set, when it should be at least 83.5 or above.
Can someone help? Have I done something wrong? This is the code I've used to merge the data and I've attached screenshots to show
