2023.06.06 22:24 JoshAsdvgi Turtle Island: The Original Name for North America
| Turtle Island: The Original Name for North America The name Turtle Island comes from the Aboriginal Creation story Turtle Island was renamed North America after a Spanish explorer, Amerigo Vespucci The Anishinaabek are one of the most widespread nations of the Aboriginal People of Turtle Island. There are Anishinaabek people living from The Canadian Sub-arctic across Turtle Island into Mexico. Many Native nations say that they are Anishinabek such as the Ojibway also called Chippewa, the Odawa, the Potawatomie, The Algonquins in Ontario's North-East and others. There is many nations similar to the Anishinaabek such as the Algonquin related people in the East Coast, the Arapaho nation and the Tsitsistas nation, also known as Cheyenne in the Prairies, and the Yurok nation on the West Coast. The Anishinaabek language is a widely accepted aboriginal language in Turtle Island. The word Niiji is an Anishinaabek word originally used by the Ojibway and Cree to mean friend. Lately Aboriginal People of Turtle Island often use the term Niiji to address each other and themselves equivalent to the meaning of the word Indian. The word Indian originates in one version from Spanish and in another version again from Spaniards calling Turtle Island Natives people from India, Indians. The term Niiji very clearly defines the person as an aboriginal from Turtle Island other than Inuit. When used today, the term Indian could refer to a person from India or to a person of any aboriginal nationality on any of the continents with populations that lead lifestyles similar to those of the aboriginal people on Turtle Island. Similar to the term Indians referring to Turtle Island aboriginal people, the aboriginal people in the Arctic were called Eskimos. The term Eskimo is not a term that the aboriginal people of the Arctic called themselves but rather a term used by Europeans that originated from the Cree language calling people raw meat eaters. Due to the term Eskimo not being a term the aboriginal people in the Arctic introduced, the term Eskimo was replaced by what the aboriginal people in the Arctic call themselves, which is the word Inuit. Inuk means man in the language of the aboriginal people of the Arctic and Inuit means men in their language. Their language is called Inuktitut. The word Niiji has already replaced the term Indian in many cases among Native youth and elders and it could completely replace the term Indian just like the word Eskimo was replaced by name Inuit. Every Native nation in Turtle Island has it's distinct language and name. The name Niiji doesn't replace the names of nations; it replaces the wider term Indian that covers all Native nations and at the same time clearly refers to to the aboriginal people of Turtle Island and excludes any other aboriginal nation also referred to as Indians. In Europe, Asia and Africa there are numerous nations with all of them acknowledging to be Europeans, Asians or Africans. Natives in Turtle Island that address themselves as Niiji, call themselves Niijis regardless of the nation they are from, just like Europeans, Asians and Africans call themselves Europeans, Asians and Africans. People often talk about an Indian language and ignore the fact that just like there is no one single language spoken by all Europeans, there is no one single language spoken by all aboriginal people of Turtle Island. The name Niiji makes it clear that there is not one language spoken by aboriginal people of Turtle Island due to the fact that, there is no such thing as a language called Niiji. Just like there is not just one language in any of the continents, there is no just one language among the aboriginal people of Turtle Island. The aboriginal people of Turtle Island have chosen to refer to their continent by the original name for it which is Turtle Island. They have chosen the flag with the four colors: white, yellow, red and black to be the general flag representing all aboriginal people of Turtle Island and in some cases also the non-aboriginals on Turtle Island. They have chosen a general symbol of the Medicine Wheel with the four colors, as the insignia of Turtle Island. The Turtle Island aboriginal people's use of the name Niiji to address themselves is only natural. submitted by JoshAsdvgi to Native_Stories [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 12:32 boutell New US CCS chargers report for May 2023
Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
- Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
- Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 222 CCS charge points added or refreshed in May 2023, which is up from 171 in April. For comparison, there were only 74 new CCS charge points in May 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars, but so far in very few locations. If they start doing this at scale and reporting it to the Alternative Fuels Data Center then it will be reflected here.
"What about Ford vehicles with NACS (Tesla) plugs?" They are not on sale yet. Current-generation Ford vehicles have CCS plugs. The next generation will have NACS (Tesla) plugs, but will also support CCS via an adapter.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can
sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first, so that's why the post is shorter than in previous months.

# | | Team | Δ | Comment | Record |
1 | | Rays | 0 | Why replace writers with AI when the Rays bullpen has proven to be the most cost efficient way to generate drama in 2023? The team doing so well makes it hard to complain, but Jason Adam also makes it so easy, yanno? Happy pride month y'all! In other positive news, Glasnow has looked good if not otherworldly in his return, he'll look to continue finding his groove. Yandy Diaz also hit a quintessential little league homerun, which should make everyone everywhere happy! | 42-19 |
2 | | Rangers | 0 | hahahahaha offense go brrrrrrrt. Big week this week with a series against the struggling Cardinals and then the big weekend matchup against the Rays. Ending another month on top of the division and we are having fun! | 38-20 |
3 | | Braves | 0 | Horrid start to the week by losing a series to the Oakland "Triple A's" (don't @ me...I heard their own annoucers call them that), but we salvaged the week in AZ thanks to Eddie Rosario playing OUT OF HIS MIND and capping off our weekend with a go ahead Slam in the top of the ninth on Sunday. We are banged up on the hump, but are pushing through. If this is a rough patch, I am happy. First up this week is the Mets. A very important series to get it all back on track. | 35-24 |
4 | | Astros | +2 | Crucial series win against the Angels to finish off the weekend. Saturday's game was a lot of fun, aside from the top of the 7th inning - but we don't talk about that. Let's talk instead about how Alex Bregman's grand slam, 4-walk day can be 100% attributed to his wife throwing out the first pitch (it was Girls Night Out) and Bregs subsequently skipping the photo op with her to finish his warm-up. | 35-24 |
5 | | Dodgers | -1 | | 35-25 |
6 | | Orioles | -1 | Alternating wins and loses all week this past week. Losing two out of the last three series is not great. I then thought about it and obviously the Orioles can't win every game and can't win every series, so thinking they can, means I have more confidence in this team than I have in a very long time. Aaron Hicks has been a pleasant surprise filling in for Cedric, batting .455 with an OPS of 1.208. Even though the fans were severely against getting him, he seems to have been the right move so far. The next six games are against Milwaukee and KC, hopefully we go at least 4-2. | 37-22 |
7 | | Yankees | 0 | Another strong road trip, another handful of injury questions. Is Nestor really hurt, or is this a “get right” phantom stint? Will Judge need IL time? Wtf’s Bader’s situation? In better news Stanton, Kahnle, and Donaldson are back, and Rodon is set to face live batters. It would be really fucking cool if we could get off the IL merry-go-round though. | 36-25 |
8 | | Blue Jays | +1 | Very nice bouceback week(ish) after our AL East foes took us to Pound Town, with series wins over Minnesota and Milwauke (Algonquin for "the good land") before sweeping the Nye Mets. Bassitt continued to build on his '23 legend by nearly throwing another CGSO while his wife was going into labor in another country. Vladdy lasered his first HR not off a shitting-his-pants position player since May 4th, and still hasn't hit one at home, which is WILD. Belt overcame DFA screams from dipshits after an abysmal April (.519 OPS) with a hero-ball May (.940 OPS). Big tests coming up, tho, with HOU, BAL, MIN, and TEX next on the docket. Someone throw an irradiated spider at Manoah or something. | 33-27 |
9 | | D-Backs | -1 | The Diamondbacks had a decent week, sweeping the Rockies in four games and coming within one out of taking two of three from the Braves. Alas, the Diamondbacks' bullpen is still the Diamondbacks' bullpen. Additionally, Geraldo Perdomo's abysmal peripherals are catching up with his early-season performance, and third base remains a question mark, as Josh Rojas still doesn't have a single home run on the season. | 35-25 |
10 | | Twins | 0 | A 4-3 week, including another series win against the reigning WS Champions! The lineup still isn't consistent though and we're being carried by our good pitching. There's time to fix those issues as the summer goes on, especially in the AL Central where we don't have a lot of competition. | 31-29 |
11 | | Brewers | +2 | In the words of noted Brewers fan Tom, "i don't understand how each day the lineup can look worse than the day before, like each day feels like rock bottom then it gets even worse somehow" That's pretty much Brewers fandom opinion of the Spring Training esque lineups Milwaukee is trotting out day after day. Somehow the team was 4-2 in the last week though. (Thanks Reds). Also, Reddit effectively kiling third party app support is terrible, and might actually be the thing that gets me to leave this Californian Hotel. | 32-27 |
12 | | Red Sox | 0 | You know, I liked baseball more when we weren't .500. Losing Chris Sale to the injured list right as we get Whitlock and Paxton back is cruel but predictable. Our rotation has a lot of talent, but lacks the stamina to actually go deep into games. Houck, Whitlock, Pivetta and Kutter are all decent to really good 1st/2nd time through. Pair them up and have them each throw ~3-4 innings and you've basically Frankenstiened two 110 ERA+ starters! CHaim hire me please :) | 30-29 |
13 | | Pirates | +4 | The Pirates had a miserable May. The pitching went from excellent to merely good while the offense was put on life support. The Bucs, who were 20-9 at the end of April, had dropped under the .500 mark on Memorial Day. Since then, the Bucs have won 5 straight — 2 against the Giants to pick up the Pirates' first (and only) series win in May, and then a sweep of the Cardinals for the first time since 2018. Yeah, the Pirates are only 31-27, but that puts them just a game out of first in the NL Central. Not bad considering where this team stood a week ago. | 31-27 |
14 | | Angels | 0 | When he has been on the field and not getting into it with fans or wasting away on the injured list, Anthony Rendon has been a quietly solid presence in this Angels lineup. Slated to return back to the lineup within the next couple days, the team could use a boost in the middle part of the order, especially with runners on. | 31-30 |
15 | | Mariners | -4 | A Mariner is a person who works aboard a watercraft as part of its crew, and may work in any one of a number of different fields that are related to the operation and maintenance of a ship. The profession of the Mariner is old, and the term Mariner has its etymological roots in a time when sailing ships were the main mode of transport at sea, but it now refers to the personnel of all watercraft regardless of the mode of transport, and encompasses people who operate ships professionally, be it for a military navy or civilian merchant navy, as a sport or recreationally. Up next: 2 @ Vedder Cup bros, 3 @ Troutanis | 29-30 |
16 | | Mets | -1 | Since my last update, we swept the Phillies and we got swept by the Blue Jays. This is a weird Mets team who I think may just be pretty mediocre, though I suspect they'll stick sneak into the playoffs. Our record is back at .500 and we have the Braves in Atlanta next, which is not the kind of shit you want to see. Omar Narvaez will likely return from the IL this week, creating an interesting roster crunch which shouldn't be interesting at all, since current backup catcher Tomas Nido has an OPS of .278. | 30-30 |
17 | | Marlins | +1 | Sweepy has been busy so far this year. The fish complete their 4th sweep of the season on the visiting A's, reports are sketchy but apparently he was last spotted saying "Mets are over rated". We'll get further clarification on what he meant by that next time he resurfaces. Sandy is going through it right now, if im being honest i think hes working through some mechanical issues cuz hes still lowkey struggling with location. His last outing was fairly good save one inning where he allowed a bunch of runs but he is slowly improving. Very slowly. The his week the marlins are gonna host the royals, followed with a trip to south side chicago. | 32-28 |
18 | | Giants | -2 | The Giants went 2–4 with two 1-run losses. Normally losing a series to both the Orioles and Pirates would be problematic, but in the New Age, both teams are good and the Giants played hard 80% of the time. They are 5–7 in 1-Run Games, and 1-2 in extras, and with a +1 Run Diff (18th in MLB, -5 spots) they are slightly underperforming expected W/L Record. The Giants will be without Joc, Yaz, Conforto, Estrada, and Bart until tomorrow (expected), and Alex Wood is the latest casualty – gone for 12ish days. The rotation, led by Cobb, Webb, and Disco, will rely even more on the bullpen which usually means Jacob Junis (yay!) and Manaea (: / ). Cleaning up their act some, the bullpen ERA is now 20th in MLB (+3) and the whole staff at 15th in RA/G (=). The inconsistent offense, hampered by injuries and some mini-slumps, sits at 14th in RS/G (-2). Giants fans must hope a return to health will boost the bats, the younglings liven back up, and the bullpen holds the line @ Coors Field ( : / ) and vs the question-mark-of-a-team Chicago Cubs. | 29-30 |
19 | | Padres | +1 | It was the first game at Petco for my Niece and her Father. He'd long written off the Padres, as a team of nobodies that would never try to win at a sport that ultimatley rigged for markets that weren't in San Diego County. As a sign of goodwill from my Sis, his ex-wife, they had amazing seats, down by the first base side, that were each in the triple digits. Over the last few years he'd gotten into the sport for the first time since '98, and for my Niece, it was the first time following any pro sport in her life. They sat down at their beautiful seats, had a couple of 'dogs, and by the third inning, San Diego was behind 7-0. Sigh. The Padres average 39k at Petco, ranking 5th in the majors in attendance. They have a 13-17 record in those games. | 27-32 |
20 | | Guardians | +3 | I was on vacation this week, so I haven't been as aware of baseball as I should be. I did go to two games at Camden and two at Nationals Park while on my trip. The Guardians won a series against the Orioles and split one with the Twins, so now I'm being optimistic and will probably embarrass myself again. Also, I hope the Reds ranker is doing okay. | 27-32 |
21 | | Phillies | -2 | What a miserable week it was to be a Phillies fan. They salvaged a 2-4 record by winning the weekend games against the Nationals, but were dreadful all week in games that were just close enough to keep your hopes up. The Phillies are currently 4.5 games out of the 3rd wild card spot with 3 other teams ahead of them. Trea Turner, who you'd think would have one of the highest floors in the league, is hitting .232 with a dreadful .276 OBP. Alec Bohm hit the IL, which means the infield regularly includes one or two of Josh Harrison, Kody Clemens (who's actually been quite hot the past few weeks), and AAAA quality Drew Ellis (who went 3/3 with 2 walks and 2 home runs on Sunday). The bats and pitching have completely died, but that's thankfully set the stage for Nick Castellanos to do what he does best. This week: a homestand with 3 against the Tigers and 3 against the Dodgers. | 27-32 |
22 | | Cubs | +2 | This week was a much needed bounce back for the Cubs, as they took 2 out of 3 from both the Rays and Padres. Unfortunately, the week was marred by yet more struggles in the clutch and with RISP as well as Justin Steele's injury. Steele is out for at least 2 starts with forearm soreness, and will be dearly missed as he has kept the Cubs in game after game. The Cubs continue their West Coast road trip this week with sereis against the Angels and Giants following today's game in SD. | 26-32 |
23 | | Cardinals | -2 | The Cardinals should be playing better, they aren't. They've been bad all season. Short of collective epiphany that sees them 30 up in their next 40 (lol, doubt it) there's no useful information I can put in this box past "Fire John Mozeliak." | 25-35 |
24 | | Reds | +1 | It finally happened boys. After just a month of being separated, she gave me official divorce papers. I think she’s made it abundantly clear she has no interest in fixing things, and you know what? I get it. It’s alright. She told me straight up that she didn’t feel anything between us anymore, and no amount of therapy or counseling is gonna fix that, whatever was there is gone. She’s felt like that for a while, I just refused to see it, I was in denial. But i’m not anymore. I’m free, I am once more ready to set sail on the ocean of loneliness until I find land. I hope I can find land. I gotta find land. How we’ll divide time between our son is yet to be determined, but I know we’ll find a good compromise. I’m just…happy that the air is clear. No more pretending to enjoy each other's presence, no more fake smiles to mask our emptiness. No more. Anyway, let’s talk Reds baseball. We had a good road trip where our offense managed to shine but a horrid home series where we got pantsed by a division rival. The front office just refuses to throw the fans a bone. We continue to give playing time to people like Will Benson and Stuart Fairchild, all the while prospects like Elly De La Cruz and Christian Encarnacion-Strand are tearing up AAA to the point where there’s really nothing left for them to do. Both had problems with their Walk%, so what happened? The last couple weeks both have significantly improved their walk rate. They have nothing left to do in AAA if you ask me and plenty of the fanbase. Imagine if both can be successful in the MLB, what kind of boost of energy that would give to this team while they’re still in striking distance of the NL Central crown. Our starting pitching is still a major liability, Graham Ashcraft has just flat out forgotten how to pitch. The Bullpen is still keeping us in games and our offense can be truly clutch at times, but consistency is one thing we’ve lacked all season. Consistency, consistency, consistency. It’s not here. But with an injection of young talent, things could definitely turn around, or I guess you could say something that’s become a bit of a motto here in Cincinnati and with our recent ownership groups: We’re just a couple years away. | 26-33 |
25 | | Tigers | -3 | RIP Riley Greene. RIP Eduardo Rodriguez. I guess the White Sox walkoff on Saturday where a Jose Cisnero pitch domed the home plate umpire for a wild pitch was emblematic of this week (shrugs). As a side note, man is this linup brutal, sporting a team slash line of .226/.302/.349 for the season. Yikes! This week: 3 at PHI, 3 vs. ARI. | 26-31 |
26 | | White Sox | +2 | The AL Central being so competitive/non-competitive is the worst thing for the White Sox right now. Despite being 9 games under .500, they are only 5.5 games back in the division. They're stuck in limbo right now. In any sane world, they would already be selling parts, but in all likelihood, they'll have to sell some of the future at the deadline, only to go on a cold streak in mid September, finish 8 games out in the division, and make this awful season feel even worse. | 26-35 |
27 | | Nationals | -1 | Rough week for the Nats losing 5 of 7 and getting even worse news with the announcement of Strasburg being shut down from all physical activity. While I can't speak for all Nats fans, I can speak for myself: Stephen Strasburg has absolutely nothing to prove. I genuinely would be ecstatic for him to ride off into the sunset without throwing another pitch before unvailing a statue with Zim on the corner of Capitol and Potomac. | 25-34 |
28 | | Rockies | -1 | No Blurb Submitted | 26-35 |
29 | | Royals | 0 | Congo rats to Scott Barlow on notching his 50th career save. And congo rats to Aroldis Chapman for rebuilding his career and being a trade chip. The Royals are going to fuck up the return, but at least he can get something back in another couple of months. I'm looking forward to surgery so I can be too drugged up to give a shit about this team. | 18-41 |
30 | | Athletics | 0 | More a question than a curse, how could hell be any worse? | 12-49 |

2023.06.04 03:57 Wavy77777 Top 20 songs 2014-2023 (subjective rankings)
Let's make a list for the last 10 Years! So I wanted to look at the last ten contests to draw out the essence from those shows, or at least what was the most enjoyable moments for me personally. At first I thought it was too big of a task to make one big mega ranking, giving points all over again to songs I've almost forgotten, but then I decided to do this a little methodically, so it became a little more doable. So first thing, I had to listen to all the songs. Or maybe not all songs, that would take weeks, but let's at least do the short version: recaps.
Nominating My first task was to watch recaps from all shows to remember what songs were worthy and who was not good enough for such a list. I nominated X amount of songs from each year, depending on the quality of the songs. Then I ended up with 94 songs. The spread per year was as follows: 2014: 7 songs, 2015: 14 songs, 2016: 4 songs, 2017: 13 songs, 2018: 7 songs, 2019: 7 songs, 2020: 13 songs, 2021: 8 songs, 2022: 11 songs, 2023: 10 songs. Please note that since there was no contest in 2020 I was less familiar with these songs, so I had a lower threshold for nominating songs from this year. Also the number of songs nominated doesn't necessarily reflect my overall ranking of that contest as a whole.
Giving points After finding what songs was nominated I watched each and every song (that I had nominated) once again in its entirety, then giving a somewhat honest score of how much I enjoy the song now. I used a 1-20 score, meaning I had more increments than I normally do when I score Eurovision songs on a 1-12 (-9&11) scale. That was to be able to make more distinctions between songs that were close to another, avoiding too many "point lumps". I also tried to avoid influence from how I initially rated the songs when they were released. I was actually quite happy to see that I both rated some songs higher and lower than what I did initially, meaning that my opinion on a song can change over time. I even found myself rating songs from 2023 different than how I rated them just a couple weeks ago. As for versions, I always try to find the best version, whether it's the music video, national final, semi final or grand final version. The lowest I ranked any song in this ranking was 9 points. Any song lower than that would not be able to make the nomination. Again most of the lower ranked songs was from 2020, since that was the year least familiar to me, with the most amount of songs falling outside my quality criteria. The average amount of points was 13,7. The median was actually right between 13 and 14. The spread was as follows: 9 points: 2 entries, 10 points: 4 entries, 11 points: 4 entries, 12 points: 12 entries, 13 points: 24 entries, 14 points: 17 entries, 15 points: 13 entries, 16 points: 9 entries, 17 points: 4 entries, 18 points: 3 entries, 19 points: 1 entry, 20 points: 1 entry
Fine tuning Since this was about finding a top 20 list I then went back on all the songs I put up around 15-20 points and tried to split hairs between the different songs I had listed that high. This was the most enjoyable part, since the songs up there are so good, but it's also so difficult to distinguish different types of songs when you have a ballad, a medium tempo bop, an industrial techno song and a singer song writer folk song. I did end up with a list I feel good about though, so I will list it below from number 1-20 with a small text to why I like each song. I first make the list, then write a text to each below the list.
The List - Belgium 2017, Blanche - City Lights, 20 points
- Estonia 2015, Elina Born and Stig Rästa - Goodbye to Yesterday, 19 points
- Azerbaijan 2021, Efendi - Mata Hari, 18 points
- Slovenia 2015, Maraaya - Here for You, 18 points
- Serbia 2022, Konstrakta - In Corpore Sano, 18 points
- Sweden 2014, Sanna Nielsen - Undo. 17 points
- Iceland 2019, Hatari - Hatrið mun sigra , 17 points
- Azerbaijan 2017, Dihaj - Skeletons, 17 points
- Montenegro 2015, Knez - Adio, 17 points
- Czechia 2023, Vesna - My Sister's Crown, 16 points
- Italy 2015, Il Volo - Grande Amore, 16 points
- Norway 2019, Keiino - Spirit in the Sky 16 points
- Estonia 2017, Koit Toome and Laura - Verona, 16 points
- Bulgaria 2016, Poli Genova - If Love was a Crime, 16 points

- Ukraine 2021, Go_A - Shum, 16 points
- Georgia 2015, Nina Sublatti - Warrior, 15 points
- Austria 2016, Zoë - Loin d'Ici, 15 points
- Spain 2015, Edurne - Amanecer, 15 points
Other songs that almost made the list: (Sweden 2022 Cornelia Jakobs-Hold me closer), (Ukraine 2016 Jamala-1944), (Denmark 2018 Rasmussen-Higher Ground),(Moldova 2020 Natalia Gordienko-Prison), (France 2022 Alvan and Ahez-Fulenn),(The Netherlands 2022 S10-De Diepte),(Finland 2023 Käärija-Cha Cha Cha), (Georgia 2023 Iru-Echo),(Latvia 2023 Sudden Lights-Aija),(Norway 2023 Alessandra-Queen of the Kings), (Spain 2023 Blanca Paloma-Eaea), (Ireland 2015 Molly Sterling-Playing with numbers), (Armenia 2017 Artsvik, Fly with me)
About each song - Blanche-City Lights. It was actually quite easy for me to put this on top, and it was the song I was the most sure about. I consider this song pure pop magic. Blanche's dark toned down vocals to the dark minor chords and the effective beat in a sort minimalist electro production is so effective on so many levels I don't know where to begin. I have listened to some of the other songs she has released after Eurovision, and she is a really gifted musician.
- Elina Born and Stig Rästa-Goodbye to Yesterday. This almost cinematic singer songwriter tune with it's relatively trad arrangement reminds me of Lee and Nancy (Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra) who made some pretty cool albums back in the 6os and 70s. It almost has this road movie feel to it and is an ubercool feel and very melodic verse. Stig's toned down voice and Elina's emotional performance made it an instant hit. If you want to see where Elina got her idea from her Grand finale costume, take a look at Tura Satana from Russ Meyer's Faster Pussycat Kill Kill.
- Efendi-Mata Hari. Actually everything about this song screams The Netherlands. It's song written by Dutch people about a Dutch spy performed in the Netherlands, it even charted in the Netehrlands. I wouldn't be surprised if Efendi actually has a Dutch grandfather or mother...;) Jokes aside, this oriental-ish bop is about as catchy and fiery and visually seductive as they come. There's no shortage of spice and sauce on this quality song or it's visual presentation. I still get thrown back in my chair everything I hear the "MATA HARI" opening.
- Maraaya-Here for You. The opening suggests some sort of jazz ballad with Marjetka's vocal fry "When you're down down low..."over the minimalist piano intro. But then comes the drums and the key changes and the vocal sound and style changes just like that to a darker, more energetic melody before we get a more orchestrated version of the intro now as a chorus. The el violin, piano licks highlights this great song along with Marjetka's great voice. The bridge is not too bad either. There's actually a lot going on here so it's kind of hard to analyse, but the result is great. And you just gotta love Marjetka's head phone coupled with the wind machine with her ginger hair blowing in the wind.
- Konstrakta-In Corpore Sano. This must be one of the more curious ESC songs of all time with it's relatively minimalist melody with Serbian lyrics about health and body fixation with its electronic choir like background vocals but it's the ultimate clap release chorus that makes us go "Biti zdrava" while we frenetically do a robotic golf clap that shows this strange song its appeal. It's just very cool and catchy, and it shows us all a side of ourselves we didn't know we had in us. Pure art, pure performance, pure magic.
- Sanna Nielsen-Undo. A fantastic pop ballad with beautiful minor moods and a dramatic chorus, plus the archetypical modulation towards the end. One of those songs that simply stands the test of time and I can listen to over and over again. Sanna is a very good singer who focuses a lot on schlager type music in her repertoire. I prefer this over many other songs from Sweden. It might have to do with my preference for drama and sadness over joyful and cheery songs. If you look at the heritage of Abba and what made them good songwriters it had a lot to do with their knack for making these bittersweet type songs with both sadness and joyfulness to them. This is a good example of such a song.
- Hatari- Hatrið mun sigra. How about sending an industrial techno song about how society will collapse? Why not? Iceland did it and they got away with it...;) At least almost as they got fined during the voting for showing a Palestinian flag during the voting. So the fine wasn't about the song. The song is very intense with it's hard electronic bassline with Matthias Haraldsson's distorted shouting in the verse, then to Klemens Hannigan's seductive and high, melodic singing in the chorus, making the contrast between the two singing styles extremely enjoyable and almost refined. The synth licks complementing the singing is also very well arranged. A true classic. Oh and I didn't even mention the visuals with the red blinking lights, the fire, the BDSM outfits that makes it look like some kind of alternative from East Berlin 1982.
- Dihaj-Skeletons. 80s electro style pop tune with jet like bass synths backing an angelic voice and baroque like synth licks that comes in at the pre chorus part before it explodes into an energetic chorus. Very cool. Dihaj is also a very good singer with a good range. I never quite understood the staging at the contest though. I expected something completely different.
- Knez-Adio. For me this is the quintessential Balkan ballad. The string arrangements, the soothing rhythm, the harmonic background vocals and the strong melody just blend together so well, and gives you images of mountains, rivers, waterfalls and works well into this mid tempo ballad with pretty minor chords and a pretty, sentimental delivery from Knez, who I think is one of the stronger vocalists the contest have seen.
- Vesna-My Sister's Crown. So onto this year's only entry on this list. As much as I liked a lot of the songs from 2023, a lot of them ended around the 30th spot in this list. Vesna was my lone candidate actually ending up on the list. To me they were always this year's number one, with their anthem about sisterhood, whether it was about slavic sisterhood or not is not so important to me. It was the song itself that got to me. It probably hit at the right time since I've become very interested in Czech history, culture and language the last years as well. As someone who is into harmonic music with folk elements this really hit the spot for me. I was so happy to see their final performance with their long braids and pink jumpsuits, plus very good choreography. The dancing at the end of the song really got to me, and I still have to focus really hard not to get emotional everytime I see that part. Dobra prace, holky!
- Il Volo-Grande Amore. Is it possible to get more Italian than this? And I mean it as a compliment. With great drama, big time forte this operapop schlager with grand voices hit big time in 2015 and won the popular votes of the contest. Some wondered if it would be too kitchy to send something so rooted in an ancient music style from the 17th century to a modern song contest that focuses greatly on visuals. The answer was an absolute no. I must admit that this was not among my favourites initially in 2015, but it slowly grew on me and now I really love it. The arrangement here is also interesting with a relativley monotonous bassline topped with the grand string arrangements that leads us to the crescendo.
- Keiino-Spirit in the Sky. My own country's only entry for this list. Combing EDM and joik actually works, and it's mindblowing how catchy this song gets when all the voices come together in the chorus. The melody in the chorus is slightly similar to Saara Alto's Monsters from 2018, but the song itself is very different. The Sami culture is quite exotic and far away even for us Norwegians, and even though the song is not a Sami song per se, all the elements of joik, Northern lights and shaman symbolism sends us into this mystical journey into the far north of ice, snow and winter darkness.
- Koit Toome and Laura-Verona. This pop love drama that uses Romeo and Juliet's city as it's background, was absolutely robbed of a place in the grand final when televotes gave it a 6th place in the second semi final while the juries only gave it 16 points, ending up 17th on the jury ranking, ultimately ending up only 14th on the combined list. As you can see, I have it higher on my Song of the decade-list than juries had it in that semi final. I also remember how bad the sound was, microphones not working, maybe even monitors not working when they were to perform in the semi final. For the best version of this song, watch the music video. The video of the semi final performance only makes me angry. Now, about the song itself, it's super catchy, almost anthemic in it's "o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o, we lost and we found our Verona" chorus. A great pop composition that has really stood the test of time.
- Poli Genova-If Love was a crime. Another song that I didn't love at first, but that has really grown on me over time. A quite dance friendly pop tune with almost soul like elements in the chorus, with it's unison singing and that trademark dance that come along with the performance. The song starts with a piano backing track, drums and that flute like synth that plays some infectious riff that sounds like a bird whistle or something. The true genius of this song is the pre chorus when she sings the title of the song. That part has some fantastic harmony arrangements and a great melody. It also took me a while to understand that the chorus was sung in Bulgarian. I never really understood why she sang "All I'm in Luther, I'm in Luther"...;)
- Salvador Sobral-Amor pelos dois. The only winner song on this list. When I made this list I didn't actually believe that this song would make it onto the top 20, but here it is! Some look at this as a sentimental journey back to old style Eurovision with no electronic music, no dancers, no smoke machines, basically nothing fancy going on whatsoever, and to some people, maybe even boring. I just look at this as a very pretty song about love that is sung in the prettiest and most heartfelt way possible. At the time of the final Salvador Sobral was due to a heart transplant caused by a weak heart, so at the time of the performance there where doubts about how long he could survive. Fortunately this looks like it has succeeded, and the performances I've seen of him since he looks a lot more healthy than he did in 2017. Thank god.
- Andromache-Ela. My second NQ on the list. It's claimed that the reason she didn't go the final was due to a bad vocal performance in the semi final, but it was the juries that really put her down with only giving her 9 points, and juries don't go off the televised performance do they? Or was it only in the grand finale that there's an extra jury performance? Anyhow, this beautiful Greek-balkan style pop song really deserved a lot more than it got from the juries and should have been in the grand finale. Pretty and delicate strings opens up before a pop track emerges with Andromache's pretty voice singing a heavenly melody and the super catchy chorus sends us straight to the Greek gods of lush voices and soft femininity. Nice use of echo and reverberation in this track.
- Go_A-Shum. Ukrainian techno folk sang entirely in Ukrainian is just one of these things I never imagined myself that I would enjoy, and going into then final I considered this song more of a curiosity than a song that I would thoroughly enjoy, but I was wrong. Folk music always takes a bit of a different ear to enjoy than "normal pop". The style of singing and the rhythm has a monotonous, almost chanting feel to it, and can sound off to many western ears. Yet this song really hit a nerve with me eventually. I just love what Ukraine has done to Eurovision, and I hope they keep sending great songs like this.
- Nina Sublatti-Warrior. A very powerful song with great attitude. A bumblebee like synth opens up before we have tribal drums and Nina singing about fighting and something about "oximated". It doesn't matter cause I believe everything she sings anyway. The chorus comes in hard and powerful with Nina singing her heart out and again those big drums. A pretty straight forward angry war-pop song, but very haunting and no-nonsense. My ESC universe is better with songs like these. Arguably the best song from Sakartvelo we've had, even though Iru challenged her pretty good this year.
- Zoë-Loin d'Ici. How many entries has there been that is sung in a language that is not a national language that is not English? I have watched the movie The Piano Teacher which is an Austrian movie where the dialogue is in French, but I've never had the impression that Austria had this thing about the french langauge or what? Nevermind, Zoë's tune Loin d'Ici is a dreamy, heavenly pop song with an amazing melody and stellar rhythm arrangement. I recognise her vocal style more as French than Austrian, but that could be the language. Anyway I'm not complaining, cause I'm a big fan of french vocals in the first place. This would fit in a movie I think with it's rich colourful style it could paint a faraway country in your dreams in a very nice way.
- Edurne-Amanecer. The sixth entry from 2015, so I guess that year wins it for me. And even though this song sounds very Spanish to me it's actually composed by Swedish composers. It has an ethnic style with a big dramatic chorus and a melody in minor chords. This is the same year Grande Amore from Italy and even though the songs are quite different I do also see similarities with the big crescendo like chorus and the songs being sung in each country's national language. It didn't perform very well in the final with only 15 points, of which 8 came from neighbours France and Portugal. Big countries also have neighbours! However in my opinion this is the best Spanish entry the last 10 years, even though I both nominated 2022 and 2023 also, so it's safe to say that things are moving in the right direction.

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc.
Always mention working safely.
Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books,
you are a qualified applicant.
Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.
USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. TTO and management...GOOD LUCK)
You don't have to be crazy to work here. We'll train you. Everything but proper email usage. submitted by

2023.05.31 06:16 WeldAE The Success of Voting on Tesla Charger locations
Was looking through the Tesla charger map and noticed some of the new Tesla charging locations based on votes in the South East. What stands out is generally how good the choices are for the ones I have first hand knowledge of which is most of them as 7 out of 12 of them are near me. Here are my thoughts on the locations but I'd love to hear what everyone thinks, especially about the locations not covered by me. Is this voting for chargers a good thing or not solving real problems?
- South East
- Appalachian Mountains
- Sylva, NC - Q4 2022 - Probably the most important addition to me personally but also to anyone that owns a Tesla in the greater Atlanta area. Anyone that lives in Atlanta tends to take weekend trips north to the Great Smokies National Park, Asheville, NC or north of Asheville to ski. There are two ways to generally travel north; Via i85 in the dead of night when the traffic is down to a dull roar or more commonly via GA-400 and then through winding mountain roads. I've yet to be able to take I85 without adding 2 hours to the trip because of traffic. It's a 209 mile trip with significant elevation changes. If you want to arrive with some driving around charge, or if you intend to head back the same day you need to hit a charger on the way in or out. There are zero chargers between Atlanta and Asheville unless you take the I85 route. To say this charger is needed is a huge understatement and it was 1st place in the first ever vote in Q4 2022 for a reason. How Tesla missed this in their own analysis over the years I do not know.
- Dalton, GA - Q4 2022 - This is the same case as the Sylva, NC just when going North-West. While MUCH less of an issue, you tend to avoid I75 for traffic reasons getting out of Atlanta and it fills in a nice gap. I wouldn't have voted for this one, it's just not a big deal that I can see but would love to hear from anyone that understands it.
- Helen, GA - Q1 2023 - This is a VERY popular day trip destination for all of Atlanta so no surprise. It's out of the way when going to Asheville so it stands on it's own as a needed charging location.
- Future - In general there is a pretty big hole north of Atlanta, home to 6m+ people so I expect more wins in future rounds of voting in this area.
- Florida
- Destin, FL - Q1 2023 - Big vacation destination location with limited ability to easily drive out to any of the locations on I10 for charging. You'll see more of these show up like this in FL where the barrier islands get chargers.
- Cape Caneveral, FL - Q1 2023 - Another barrier island location that really needed a charger. I personally have had to go 60 miles out of my way to Titusville and Melbourne, FL on many trips because there wasn't a charger in Port Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, etc. Super excited for this one.
- Okeechobee - Q4 2022 - Not hard to see why this one won.
- Key West - Q1 2023 - Having gone to Key West recently, I get why this location won, but it isn't 100% needed. I would have MUCH rather seen one in Key Largo or Islamorada instead. That said, I consider this another string in the 3 out of 4 in FL being on barrier islands.
- Future - No surprise here. More chargers on the barrier islands or peninsulas with limited access to the mainland.
- Eastern Canada
- Bromont, QB - Q1 2023
- Future ???
- North West
- Kalispell, MT - Q1 2023 - Seems very obvious, fills a massive hole. We really need more winners like this for sure.
- Future - ???
- North East - No Wins
- Future - This area of the US seems to have some of the worst lack of Tesla chargers. Not sure why they aren't winning more locations.
- Central US - No Wins
- Future - Lots of holes to fill but not a lot of population so hard to see them winning votes outside of maybe TX and IL, both of which have good coverage already.
- California
- Lee Vining, CA - Q1 2023 - ???
- Morro Bay, CA - Q4 2022 - ???
- Big Bear Lake, CA - Q4 2022 - Came in 2nd place in the first vote Tesla held so very popular. It plugs a hole near a big destination but I don't have local knowledge on it.
- Future - It seems CA is well covered but also seems to have the most capacity issues. Maybe Tesla should add an option for adding capacity to existing locations in future votes?

2023.05.30 04:56 horseradish_mustard Is there a safe way to ride to busse woods?
I rode there once last year, and thought the trail itself was nice enough, but I was almost murdered by cars at least a dozen times trying to get there and there didn't seem to be a viable alternative route. I rode to Des Plaines and from there I think I took thackedempster to algonquin road, which was mostly fine until it very suddenly wasn't. I ride in the city nearly every day, and don't consider myself uncomfortable riding in traffic, but this was way too sketchy for me. Is there a safe way to get over there or should I just forget about trying to ride there?

2023.05.24 12:09 the-mrt Block sneaky News / Politics / Sport Videos from YouTube
For a while now I'm trying to control what I see and consume on YouTube and even though I have subscriptions on niche creators and feed the algorithm exactly what I wish to watch, on specific spots Youtube has a reserved video that has nothing to do with recommendations or what I like, it pushes content in fields like news channels, sports, religion, music, famous people etc.
As a person who doesn't watch all of those, I find it very annoying to see just how much YouTube pushes some type of information that the general public wants (1 in every 20 videos) but not me, so I have rules set in place, feel free to edit the keywords to fit your needs. Below are all news portals I could find as well as some other types of content you wish to avoid. Below are news related blocks:

2023.05.24 05:29 TheWingalingDragon Shifting Grids - a way to get us to use more of the map in Warfare
This game has awesome maps; however, there are huge tracts of land which we rarely get to see nor use in any meaningful way.
This will be an eternal problem for the game unless something is done, mechanically, to allow the areas to become useful.
This idea revolves around the premise of the 4-pack. For those who do not know, the 4-pack is an invisible boundary around every strong point that is 400m tall and 400m wide. It is the boundary in which a soldier is considered to be capturing or defending an objective, without being inside the strong point.
Here is a video which explains the 4-pack garrison meta in detail 4-packs are what shape everything we experience within Warfare mode. Whether or not you've ever understood what/where they are... almost everything you are asked to do a certain way or been criticized for doing incorrectly has revolved around the invisible 4-pack placement. Nodes, garrisons, OPs, lockouts, supply drops, you name it... it is all a slave to the 4-pack.
The 4-packs are static, aligned exactly to the 200m grid. That is where the problem lies for the game, in terms of the game becoming stale and predictable for long time players.
Since the grid is always in the same place, and the 4-pack is always aligned to it, we usually end up fighting in same type of battles in the same places over the same houses and crossing the same roads. There are entire facilities and trench systems which nobody but the random jogger will ever really stumble upon.
My idea is simple and subtle... move the grids around a bit each time the map loads.
If the grid was able to be adjusted at the start of the match by a random value (random number 0-199m north/south and 0-199m west/east) we would start to see a lot of different configurations and metas pouring out of the same maps we've been playing all this time.
At a certain point most veterans of the game have the map Meta memorized. They'll say things like: "the enemy garrison is either here, there, or over in that spot... if it isn't, then the enemy team is doing really badly."
We can predict where the enemy garrisons will be because we know exactly what their side of the map looks like around the applicable 4-pack area. We know where all the good garrisons go, because we've been on that side so many times putting them down ourselves. So... "either they'll put a good garrison
right there... or they put up a dogshit garrison somewhere else and we probably don't need to worry too much about it."
There are only a few ways to depart from this memorized style of gameplay... new maps (which take a ton of time and effort, and usually come with their own slew of bugs and issues), or...
shaking up existing maps.
One of the easiest ways to shake up maps that we already have, and all future maps that we ever will have, is to "wiggle the grid around".
When a game starts, each of the five sectors has one of three potential strong point positions randomly decided. 3x3x3x3 means there are 243 possible map setups that you'll ever see.
Considering the 2nd 3rd and 4th point are the ones that matter the most, there are fewer map configurations that really effect things in a major way.
But... by simply shifting the grid positions onto existing maps... and, therefore, where the 4-pack is aligned to the strong points... and therefor where all worthwhile game actions will be based upon... we could have an astronomical amount of map configurations with that one small change. It would benefit every single map that we have and all future maps to come.
Every single game would begin with looking at where the grid landed, just like how we look now to see where the strongpoints ended up (it is decided as the map loads in the same way that strongpoints are plotted) and make a plan based on how skewed the grid was overlaid onto it.

2023.05.22 23:07 kasutori_Jack 2023 r/baseball Power Rankings -- Weel 8: Top 10 in Flux, New York Goes +8 Together (Mostly Mets) and Cardinals Fix Their Wings, Don't Trust 'B' Teams as Blue Birds and Brewers Bottom Out, All of ALE Nearly Top 10
Hey Sportsfans — it's time for
Week 8 of
baseball Power Rankings: Nearing the end of May, what teams are real? What performances are sustainable? Is your team human or are they danfer? If I can't scuba, then what's this all been about? I could make more references, but let's skip to the part where you get upset at numbers.
Every voter has their own style / system and the only voting instructions are these: "To an extent determined individually, you must take into account how strong a team is right now and likely to be going forward. You must, to some degree, give weight to the events and games of the previous week."
TRANSPARENCY:
This link will show you who voted each team where and has added neat statistics!
If something is a little messed up, feel free to pester me let me know.
Total Votes: 29 of 30. So close.

1 | | Rays | 0 | Another would-be dominant week for the Rays was spoiled because, as it turns out, polar bears are natural predators of our fine-flapped friends. Fortunately, the dirty water of the East River has been left behind for a return to the cerulean gulf seas to face more darker blues. The bullpen is peak MacGyver right now, with Kevin Cash desparately trying to patch innings together with waivers, cash trades, and a very unstable stable. Luckily Glasnow has looked good in his rehab starts, he can't arrive soon enough. | 34-14 |
2 | | Braves | +1 | 4-2 on the week with two series wins including one against the Rangers who I have at 4th this week. If Shuster can provide a much needed stop gap in our injury depleted rotation, we can hopefully keep on winning until we can upgrade. Marcel Ozuna is a player of the month candiate and Acuna is the current unanimous MVP of the NL (and quite possibly the entire MLB). We are deep and we are good. Just keep doing your jobs. | 29-17 |
3 | | Rangers | +1 | Interesting week for the Ranges, losing a very winnable series agains the Braves then sweeping the Rockies makes it a positive week. Bullpen is still scary. Go Stars. We're having fun. | 29-17 |
4 | | Orioles | +2 | I hesitated to put the Orioles at #1 this week, however I had to. They might be the best team in baseball right now. Of course, a bad week can change all that but for right now, they look great. Yes, Yennier Cano finally gave up a run, which ballooned his ERA to 0.38 and the offense hasn't clicked as much as the pitching, but they keep winning. They do keep mentioning the "logjam" of prospects in the infield though, which makes me really wonder who is/are the odd man/men out when the trading deadline approaches, and do they go for it all this year? Still a little ahead of schedule, would the fan base be irate if they did minor moves at the deadline and didn't get a #1/2 starter and a big bat? It is a problem I would love for the team to have come the end of July. | 31-16 |
5 | | Dodgers | -3 | | 29-19 |
6 | | Astros | +3 | Altuve is back and the Framburglar is on the loose. Hide your kids, your wife, and your ballpark tour wristband. With so much uncertainty and inconsistency surrounding our pitching staff right now, it was great seeing a CGSO from Framber on Sunday. Short road trip this week, including a set against an old NL Central foe, which should get the team back to Houston in time to finally bury LMJ in the H - at least until the ASB. | 27-19 |
7 | | Yankees | +3 | Judge is a machine, Rizzo’s raking, the Jays looked softer than their collective belt lines, Sevy’s back, Rortvedt’s real (and he’s spectacular)... what more could you want out of a road trip?? Now it’s back to the Bronx with a full head of steam to take on the red hot Orioles. This is another big early series, and it should be a good one. | 29-20 |
8 | | Twins | 0 | West coast trips always seem to be trouble for us, and that trend continued with a 2-4 week in Los Angeles and what Arte Moreno thinks is Los Angeles. Our run differential for the trip was zero though, plus some bad umpiring (Minnesota has renewed its blood feud with Phil Cuzzi) and it feels like this trip could easily have swung the other way. Also, we beat Kershaw so that was nice. | 25-22 |
9 | | D-Backs | +2 | The Diamondbacks had a good week, taking a series each from the A's and the Pirates. After a run of dominant outings, Zac Gallen got rocked in the first game in Pittsburgh, but the team rebounded to take the latter two games, including against Mitch Keller. Importantly, Corbin Carroll is stealing bases again after an injury scare a few weeks ago. | 27-20 |
10 | | Blue Jays | -5 | Bad week. 1-6 vs the Yankees and Orioles. I could go on about the bad vibes, the offense disappearing, Manoah losing it, stupid nothing burger fake controversies like Judge's peeking, sticky stuff, etc. But instead, let me just say this: I just found out today that my younger cousin back in Ohio, whom I love, OD'ed at 34. I fucking hate drugs. Fentanyl and opiates have destroyed so much of the Rust Belt, and I'm honestly shocked when I find out people from back home are willing to still take the risk of buying a white powder. I now personally know 15 people who have died because of this shit, and I'm just over it. Hug your people. Ask about anyone you're worried about. Don't do the bad drugs. | 25-22 |
11 | | Red Sox | +1 | The Sox had a bounce-back week, taking 2 out of 3 against both Seattle and San Diego. Prior to the 2023 season, there were quite a few legitmate concerns about the Sox lineup and pitching staff that had most people (including myself) counting them out. While the pitching staff is still up in the air, the lineup has silenced all haters and/or fools who questioned them. Chaim has built serious depth, to the point where arguably the worst hitter in the lineup is our rookie 1B who has an .825 OPS in May and a 16.2 BB% for the season. The goal right now is to try and salvage some sort of rotation from our basket of should-just-be-multi-inning-reliever guys. Stay above .500 until Story returns from the IL, and go from there. | 26-21 |
12 | | Brewers | -5 | Going 5-5 for the week is okay, especially when you play the Rays at the Trop and hand them their 4th loss at home for the year. Seriously, 21-4 at home Tampa Bay? What the hell? Milwaukee is a pretty average team and has been weathering the decimation of the starting rotation fairly well, but I'm counting down the days until we can have the planned rotation back. A slightly below average hitting team can't keep winning throwing out Joe Nobody to start. | 25-21 |
13 | | Mets | +5 | The Mets are not good for my blood pressure, but they are good at baseball. They won 5 out of 6 this week (2 out of 3 from the Rays and a sweep of Cleveland) and seem to have staged 4 different dramatic comebacks in each of these games. Brett Baty's Statcast sliders are live and they're filthy. Alvarez and Vientos are hitting bombs of their own. Our retirement home of aces is finally working out. Pete Alonso has spent this week doing a lot of humping the air. Next up is 3 at Wrigley and 3 at Coors. | 25-23 |
14 | | Angels | 0 | Sunday was a welcomed return to form on the mound for Shohei Ohtani. Having split a four-game set to open the week in Baltimore, Shohei's solid six innings secured a series win against the Twins. A needed one at that. Of the eight home runs that Shohei has allowed, seven have come on pitches in the middle-to-lower-middle part of the plate. Around the sides and off the plate he has been largely unhittable. | 25-23 |
15 | | Mariners | -2 | A tale of two series - blowouts for both teams in Boston, followed by three fairly close games in Atlanta. All in all, a 4-5 road trip. The pitching still generally looks great, but the offense... yeah. The season will be determined by whether the top-of-MLB pitching or the bottom-of-MLB hitting regresses to the mean first, and really, it could go either way at this point. Up next: 4 vs. Ramon Laureano plus 25 people I've never heard of, 3 vs. Pirates of the CaribbeanAllegheny | 22-24 |
16 | | Pirates | -1 | On Wednesday, the Pirates went up against Eduardo Rodriguez, who entered the game as one of the best pitchers in the American League this year. WHACK! The Bucs tagged him for 4 runs in 5 innings en route to an 8-0 victory. On Friday, the Pirates faced Zac Gallen, who has established himself as one of the best starters on the Senior Circuit. CRACK! POW! The Bucs dropped 8 runs on him and won 13-3. Also they lost every other game they played this week, | 24-22 |
17 | | Phillies | -1 | Immediately after I say that things are looking up for the Phillies, they lose 4 games to start the week against sub .500 teams. Then, they score more runs on Saturday than in their previous 5 games. Trea Turner continues to disappoint with an OPS 67 points lower than his previous career low while only stealing 5 bases. Kyle Schwarber has an appalling .174 batting average but apparently ripping dingers makes up for that and his terrible defense. Hopefully June Schwarber actually shows up this year. Aaron Nola is pitching deep into games again, going 7 innings in both outings this week including a 2 run, 10 strikeout performance on Sunday. In this wildly inconsistent season, I almost expect the Phillies to do well in 3 games against the Diamondbacks and 4 in Atlanta, but the Philly sports fan in me is expecting more disappointment. | 22-24 |
18 | | Cardinals | +4 | 2-1 v MIL; 3-1 v LAD; the offense continues their tear with production from the entire lineup, Gorman most of all. Don't get distracted . . . | 21-27 |
19 | | Padres | -2 | It's really hard to find anything positive to say about the club right now...so I won't! Instead let me pivot to something much more fun, Soccer! On Thursday, MLS announced its 30th club will be located in San Diego! The team will debut in 2025, so plenty of time for us to discuss the team colors, the name (not fcsdfcunitedclubsc please), and the branding, as well as learn about the league in general. I'm looking forwards to watching matches against Club Tijuana. What will those game's be called? Frontera fuego? Border Bonanza's? | 21-26 |
20 | | Gigantes | +3 | Bad news first – Helliot Ramos will likely not impact the 2023 season with injuries and not goodness, Bart and Slater are out for another week, and Joc Pederson’s love affair with the hospital continues. Anyway, the Giants had a extremely satisfying 5 – 1 week with the one loss being a 1 – 0 shutout, thus a 6 – 0 stretch was within reach. They swept the NL Champion Phillies and took 2 from the Marlins who are actually talented this year. Casey Schmitt continues to be the opposite of a mirage and now Bailey Patrick might be a thing and I will continue to reverse his name to remind me of Buster Posey. Here are the numbers, now correctly compared with last weak instead of guessing: 19th in MLB in Run Diff (+3 spots), 18th in RS / G (-2), 20th in RA / G (+4), 28th in Bullpen ERA (=). Playing good teams without a break continues – on the road @ the tough Twins who dominate a bad division and 4 @ Brewers. In case you were wondering, it's vs Pirates after that because apparently Manfred just wants us to play the Centrals. Unrelated, fuck John Fisher. | 22-24 |
21 | | Marlins | 0 | Well, after the second of appearance of sweepy against the Nats, we dropped a series in san fran to start off our west coast road trip. That being said, Soler is still mashing the hell out of the ball and Eury Perez is has now had two good outings to kick off his major league career. The offense has been scuffling somewhat now that jazz is out due to a foot injury but hopefully the marlins can get a series win in denver before we go off to anaheim to face off trout and shohei. oh yeah, heat and panthers in 5. | 24-23 |
22 | | Cubs | -3 | The Cubs continued their terrible recent play by going 1-5 this week. The starting pitching imploded, the bullpen continued to suck, and it seems like the offense's last hit with RISP was against the A's, who over the past 31 days are the only team worse than the Cubs. The good vibes of the first weeks of April is now a distant memory. Yet somehow, they are still only 5 games behind in the NL Central and 4 out of a Wild Card spot. A pivotal week looms, as the Cubs cannot afford to slip further if they wish to push for the playoffs. They host the Mets and Reds this week. | 20-26 |
23 | | Guardians | -3 | Do I really have to talk about the Guardians? I guess that's what I signed up to do. Another bad week of blowing leads. Whenever one thing seems to get better, another gets worse. | 20-26 |
24 | | Tigers | 0 | Not too much of an eventful week. Miggy keeps getting his farewell gifts on the road (side note: do we really need to actually do these?), Javy Baez continues his resurgence, and we keep ticking down the minutes until the MLB Draft, where the boys will have their pick of anyone other than almost certainly Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes. This week: 3 at KCR, 4 vs. CWS. | 20-24 |
25 | | Nationals | +1 | Generally a 3-4 record in a week isn't anything to write home about, but for the 2023 Nationals that's a relatively cheerful feeling. After splitting a series with the Mets, the Nats got swept by the Marlins in 3 closely contested games (1 run, 1 run, 2 runs) and then took 2 of 3 from the Tigers. As of my ranking the Nationals at 27, anytime you take a series off a team above you, that's cause for cheering. | 20-27 |
26 | | Reds | -1 | The Reds are fine. They’re just fine. What do you want me to say, they’re fine. They’re okay, it’s just fine, everything is fine I don’t know what you want from me everything is just fine. IT’S OKAY. WE’RE FINE, I JUST WANT EVERYTHING TO BE FINE, IT’S ALRIGHT TO FEEL SAD SOMETIMES. That’s what I've learned as of late. The Reds make me feel happy sometimes, but then they make me feel sad. I’ve been feeling this for a while. You’ve gotta find the positives sometimes. You know when you’re sitting on the edge of a bed in a Motel 6 because your wife kicked you out after asking for a divorce, and it’s been 2 hours and you haven’t moved from the bed because you’re staring at the carpet pattern on the floor. IT’S A REALLY NICE PATTERN OKAY. I don’t need to talk to anyone, I’m just trying to figure things out, I still have to go and indulge in mediocrity at my shitty factory job tomorrow, I’m just trying okay? It’s a bad job, and I’m pretty sure I've inhaled enough chemicals and dust to kill me by 60, I’m not wanting to look on the sour side of things. Let’s look at the positives, weeee baseball whoooo GO REDS YEAHHHHHHHHH. ARE WE FEELING HAPPY YET, COME ON SAY IT WITH ME, GO REDS, GO REDS, GO REDS. No? Not happy? Still thinking about your impending divorce from the woman you thought loved you? Still thinking about the custody of your only child? Still wondering how long you can live out of a Motel 6? This isn’t even a nice motel, the breakfast isn’t even that good, it’s just some stale muffins and discount off brand froot loops called Silly Circles or something and it’s just terrible, they have like 3 day old fruit that are well over ripe and their scrambled eggs are like out of a carton and they taste like foam. Oh maybe just make a waffle, they got that premade batter station, but oh it’s empty, I’M STUCK EATING THE GODDAMN SILLY CIRCLES AGAIN, GODDAMMIT I HATE YOU SILLY CIRCLES. You know what, you know what I’m gonna do, I’m gonna find out who made these Silly Circles, I am going to find them and send them a box of Froot Loops, because they clearly don’t know what Froot Loops are supposed to taste like. WHAT’S EVEN SILLY ABOUT IT, THEY’RE JUST CIRCLES, THERE IS NOTHING SILLY ABOUT THEM I JUST WANT TO FIND A WAY TO DEAL WITH MY DIVORCE AND THIS GODDAMN CEREAL IS RUINING MY DAY. Anyway the Reds lost like 5 million games this week, fuck me. | 19-27 |
27 | | White Sox | +1 | It took until May 21st, but the White Sox have their first sweep of the season. All it took was the entire pitching staff show up. And, really, it's about time. White Sox pitching has been atrocious this year but has finally come along, posting a league-best 2.11 ERA over the last 10 days. Don't look now but after winning 4 of the last 6 series, the White Sox are checks notes only 10 games under 500. (And yet still only 9 games back in the division) | 19-29 |
28 | | Rockies | -1 | On the position player side, the Rockies are looking good for the future with Ezequiel Tovar, Brenton Doyle and Michael Toglia all getting regular playing time, with Doyle particularly standing out. Now if they could call up Nolan Jones and maybe even Drew Romo, that'd be great. The pitching side on the other hand, they called up two rookies with ERAs over 7 in AAA because they're pretty desperate for any arms that can throw major league innings. | 19-28 |
29 | | Royals | 0 | Vinnie Pasquantino wants to stay with the Royals for the rest of his career. The Royals need to make this happen. Only three players have guaranteed money for 2024, and two of those are Hunter Dozier and Jordan Lyles. That's not how one builds a winning team. Lock Pasquantino up, then sign some of the young core. Otherwise, it really might be 2045 until they win again. | 14-34 |
30 | | Athletics | 0 | Yeah this sucks. the a's have 30 more L's than they do wins and its not even memorial day. They have 8 pitchers on the IL- most of them were supposed to be high leverage relievers or coliseum merchant starters. its either darkest just before the dawn (a new stadium in oakland and a winning team) or darkest just before it goes black (vegas) | 10-38 |

2023.05.18 09:48 LoneWolfInCyberia The 7 years war starts in 1756, when England declares war on France, the world's first major global conflict spanning continents.

Basically it was between two major colonial powers Great Britian and France from 1756–63. Britian was backed by Prussia, Portugal, while France was in alliance with Spain, Swedish Empire, Russia and Holy Roman Empire, led by Austria. In fact would say this was the first major global conflict ever across all continents. You had 100 years War earlier, but that was primarily restricted to Europe. The 7 years war, on the other hand, was a conflict that spread beyond Europe, as the colonies got dragged into the war.Not many know that the conflict had it’s origins in an ambush by George Washington on an unit of French Canadians under Joseph Coulon De Villers De Jumonville, during the French-Indian wars on May 28, 1754. What was essentially a skirmish got escalated into a global conflict, with the British entering the fray, seizing hundreds of French merchant ships. On the other hand, Prussia was engaged in a conflict with Austria over the Holy Roman Empire. The war was preceded by the Diplomatic Revolution, where long standing alliances were reversed. Austria till then an ally of Britian, after the War of Austrian Succession, switched to France, over what it saw as increased British interference in it’s affairs. With Britian, seeing that Austria was unable to check French dominance, switched to Prussia. Britian was the main winner of the war, getting New France, Spanish Florida, Senegal on the West Coast, and most of all, defeating the French in India. The 4 major impacts of this war would be Britian’s rise as a world power during th 19th century, rise of Prussia in Europe, beginning of the American Revolution and the French Revolution much later. In short this war would lead to the shaping of a new global order. In India, this has been called the 3rd Carnatic War, where the conflict between British and French moved beyond the Souh all the way up to Bengal. The British scored a decisive victory over the French at Wandiwash, as both Madras, Pondicherry were taken. The Treaty of Paris in 1763, restored Chandernagore and Pondicherry to the French, but they essentially ended up as a subordinate to the British, restricted to couple of enclaves. The other main theaters of the war were French-Indian War in North America, which saw France ceding east of Mississippi to the British, Louisana to Spain. Canada too was ceded to Britian. It also saw the native American tribes take part in either side of the conflict, with the Iroquois, Cherokee on the British side, and Algonquin, Lenape, Shawnee on the French side. Pomeranian War, was primarily between Sweden and Prussia, which ended in a stalemate, with Sweden having to cede vast tracts of the Pomerania territory for which it had attacked Prussia.Third Silesian War was fought between Prussia and Austria, in Central Europe, covering Silesia, Bohemia and Upper Saxony, ended in a Prussian victory, and began it’s rise as a major European power. There was also the Fantastic War fought between Spain and Portugal with France backing the former, and Britian the latter. It was so called as no major battles marked this war, instead it was a series of ambushes, skirmishes. This also involved South America, with Spain defeating Portugal in Uruguay, while the Portuguese won in Matto Grosso, Rio Negro. The other theater was the Anglo Spanish War, with Britian winning decisively, and Spain having to cede Florida, in exchange for Havana. Battle of Plassey was fought as part of the 7 years War, between the British, and an alliance of the French, the Bengal Nawab Sirajuddin Daulah and Mughals. This battle was a turning point in Indian history, with the British emphatically becoming the masters of India, Sirajuddaulah defeated and Robert Clive starting the long period of British rule. submitted by LoneWolfInCyberia to MilitaryHistory [link] [comments] |

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc.

2023.05.16 20:05 manband20 Where the Yellowjackets Plane Crashed (THEORY)
| Hello, fellow naturalists and Citizen Detectives! In lieu of working on my books and actually having a life, I wanted to run something by you guys that I've been putting some serious thought into... The location of the Yellowjackets Wreckage. In another thread, I was talking about when and how the girls were rescued and it got me to thinking about where they could possibly have gone down. As far as I know, the only answer is "the Canadian wilderness" and, by extension, "the Canadian Rockies" and considering how vast those are, I decided to do a bit of... ahem... "light digging" to put this question to bed once and for all. So, because I have no life and do not mind writing an entire essay to prove my point, I will now explain where I believe the plane went down using maps, the location of the sun, and some good old fashioned guesstimating. Join me on my quest or laugh at me for even bothering. Let's begin! PART ONE: TIME OF DAY The general consensus is they crashed in May so we will base our entire theory off of this being the correct month. It just so happens to be May at the time of writing this. I don't need to do much digging for this one because I can just look right outside for help. Based on the lighting in these shots, especially this one that is completely outside, I would guess the girls are leaving their homes sometime between 5:30-6:30am Eastern Time. Just early enough for it to still be kinda dark outside. please get the rat out of your pool, ma'am. I say this because today is the exact middle of May, the sunrise for New Jersey today was ~5:30, and I live in Pittsburgh which is only a half-hour behind the sunrise time of Jersey, and my job has a room with windows that face the rising run. I work an extremely early shift and I can almost perfectly match the amount of sunlight in those early clips of them leaving their houses to what I see when I go to that room each morning. Assuming they are using EWR (Newark International) for their departure (mostly so they don't have to brave New York Rush Hour Traffic just to get to JFK for their flight, which is arguably worse than surviving in the Canadian wilderness for nearly two years) and using the sunlight as an indicator, I would guess a departure time of around... 9? Maybe MAYBE 10? Let's stick with 9 for now. You figure they either went to the school to be shuttled by bus OR they all waited around the terminal for a couple hours for the others to show up. More than likely the latter. Plus it only takes about an hour to get from Trenton (the largest city in the middle of the state and a pretty good indicator of time and distance without an actual city to base their hometown on) up to Newark International. And judging by the brightness, the angle of the reflection of the sunlight, and the fact that they're shutting a whole soccer team to a city on the other side of the country and need to get them some sleep before they compete, I can't imagine they're sitting around for a noon departure. So to recap... Girls leave their houses between 5:30-6:30am; Plane leaves at 9 in the morning. PART TWO: FLIGHT TIME This one is easy. Seattle is in the West. New Jersey is in the East. Mystery solved. According to Flightsphere, a flight from Jersey to Seattle takes approximately six hours when you factor in the time it takes to be taxied to the runway and departure times. The average median time listed is 5hr 27m in the air. Given that this is a chartered private plane, the Yellowjackets would be boarding from what is known as a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) which translates to a private terminal away from the main ones. Rich people get fancy things like not waiting to board their planes. They also don't need to spend as much time taxiing to the runway so we can shave off time from the estimated 20+ minutes a normal plane takes. That really doesn't matter now, but I want to rag on rich people getting special treatment. So we can say, using our estimated 9 A.M. departure time plus a total of six hours in the air, the plane will take until roughly noon to arrive, Pacific Time of course. Thank God for time zones making it seem so short, and yet in reality it takes so very long. Unfortunately, the plane is forced to divert its course at some point when they cross the Canadian border and Shauna was tripping balls at that point so we have no clear indicator of how close they were to Seattle when the crash landing began. Fortunately, we do have some clues as to what happened during that brief interregnum. PART THREE: THE TIMING OF THE CRASH During the wait for the takeoff, the captain says over the PA system that a storm is expected to hit the plane at some point and they were diverting over the Canadian Rockies, a massive mountain range which offers next to no clues besides they could be as far north as the Yukon. I believe they did not reach that far north. I believe they are MUCH farther south than we might think. Look at these two pictures for a moment. Notice the Sun is on the LEFT SIDE of the plane. The Sun is so bright on the LEFT SIDE that there is no question it was intentional. Focus on the location of the Sun and keep it in the back of your mind. Using the power of this handy little website called SunCalc, which uses GoogleMaps to show when and where the Sun will be at any given time at any given place, we can see which direction the Sun is during the landing sequence. (Big spoiler in the link so go ahead and ruin it if you want the answer already lol) Now, assuming again the 9 A.M. EST departure time and the anticipated 12 noon Pacific arrival time, we need to ask why the Sun is on the left side of the plane when, by all accounts, it should be on the RIGHT SIDE of the plane. The pilots intended to circle up and over the Canadian Rockies to avoid the storm that sent them down. This is trajectory that originally sends them from going straight West to instead going North/Northwest around the storm and then to going Southwest which would lead to the plane approaching Seattle from the North, probably around the vicinity of Vancouver. Seattle traditionally gets hit by storms coming from one of two directions over the Pacific Ocean: Southwest (around BC) or Northwest (around Oregon). We can make our guesses which direction this storm was coming, but the most likely scenario is it came from the Southwest. If it came from the Northwest, it probably would have lingered around the border and the plane would have needed to go South to avoid it. Going North would only put a wall between them and Seattle. A storm from the Southwest, though, allows a window where they can just swing in from the North. I believe they did not reach as far west as Vancouver. But keep in mind that Vancouver is to the RIGHT of Seattle if you are approaching Seattle from the North. I address the mountains north of Vancouver as a potential crash site in my VANCOUVER section near the end. With the Sun on their left side, assuming the time of day is roughly noon, this puts the trajectory of the plane headed towards the SOUTHEAST. This is important for two reasons. - They made a diversion from their intended West -> Northwest -> Southwest flight plan.
- They made such a dramatic diversion from the intended plan that they are actually headed AWAY from Seattle.
Here is why this is important. When a plane is going down or has enough damage to warrant making an unexpected landing, the pilots will seek out the nearest airport and make an emergency landing to avoid loss of life. In Lost, Oceanic Flight 815 made a sharp 180 degree turn to try to reach Fiji. This is how drastic of a diversion a plane will take just to reach safety when they need to turn back. The plane was in such bad shape that they needed to turn back and head for a city in the Southeast. With this in mind, we have two major cities that this could possibly be: Edmonton and Calgary. They have the largest airports in the region and assuming the pilots didn't divert from their "up and around the Canadian Rockies to avoid the storm" plan, those are the closest cities to a storm that is hitting Seattle, presumably from the Northwest. If you're a pilot in a smaller plane, you go AWAY from an oncoming storm and it's trajectory rather than TOWARDS it. Now let's go use the SunCalc picture. https://preview.redd.it/n50t9lt2m70b1.png?width=1918&format=png&auto=webp&s=bfa763f86af0719ae0094a19bb211ba440e65f22 We want to focus on the orange line that is facing Southeast. This is the line that points to where the Sun is in the sky at any given time. The website uses Eastern Standard Time so even though it's marked for 14:30 hours, I had to factor in the three hour time difference between New Jersey and Seattle. Remember how I said we were going to use a 9AM departure and noon arrival? This is why. Focus on the orange line and see where the Sun is at 14:30 Eastern Time. With the sun on the LEFT SIDE of the plane in the screenshots above, this means the plane must be to the RIGHT of that orange line. If you go to the link itself, you can drag the red marker around and see how it works. So going back to the plane for a second, a big thing to mention is the pilots were dumping fuel in the second picture. There are two reasons you dump fuel when you're in an emergency situation: - The plane is trying to lighten the load and reach a location in a hurry. (I've played enough IL-2 Sturmovik to know that if you're dumping your payload and/or extra fuel, it's because you are trying your damnedest to reach your destination and that extra weight just slows you down.)
- You're trying to avoid a fire WHEN the plane crashes. Not if.
Considering the plane was already on a downward slope and crashing fast, we can pretty much agree the pilots were just attempting to mitigate the damage done when they crashed and dumping fuel was a life-saving measure vs. a bomber dumping fuel to get home after it was shot to pieces over Frankfurt in 1945. As I mentioned above, when pilots feel they cannot make it safely to their destination and/or the plane is at risk of crashing, they can and will deviate their course on a dime to ensure the safety of themselves, the plane, and most of all the passengers. See: Oceanic Flight 815's flight path once again. When the plane itself sustained damage, presumably from the storm, they had to make a call and find somewhere to land and make that landing fast. So go back to the orange line. Assuming I'm right and the Sun is on their left, this means the plane is headed South/Southeast. There is only one major city within range in a Southern direction and that is Calgary. We can automatically eliminate Edmonton as the destination for their emergency landing because the Sun would be to their RIGHT side in those screenshots due to their going East/Northeast. Also they'd basically be out of the most rugged parts Canadian Rockies by that point so it wouldn't be much of a show lol. Rather than being over Misty's left shoulder, the Sun would have been directly in Misty, Jackie, and Shauna's windows, which were on the right side of the plane. Also the plane is pretty small compared to other commercial airliners so it probably didn't have the fuel to fly ALL THE WAY UP AND AROUND the Canadian Rockies to avoid the storm. Again, this would mean nearly reaching the Yukon Territory, which would mean an extra ~1500 miles of air travel to reach Vancouver, and it simply doesn't make sense why they would go all that way without just making a layover in Calgary to wait the storm out. I believe the pilots figured they could just outright avoid the storm and land in Seattle on time. Factoring in fuel concerns and the desire to just circle around the storm and you are left with the reality that they probably didn't reach a location that put them north of Edmonton. If they had, they'd be East of the Canadian Rockies vs. directly in the middle of them. "Okay," you may be saying, "well then why wasn't the plane headed straight for Calgary in a path that puts the Sun on the right side of the plane? Assuming it's only around 11:30 Pacific, the Sun would be to their rights. You wasted your time writing all of this and your parents think you smell." That last part may be true, dear reader, but let's face facts: if a plane is in an emergency situation and they can't make it to the city they're trying to reach, the pilots will seek out the best alternative for an airstrip and make their crash landing there. The reason highways are a certain length across is because there is a rule that if an airplane is at risk of crashing, they can use the highways as a tarmac to touch down on rather than smash straight into a field or the mountains. Highways have long stretches of straight road that a plane can easily treat as an airstrip and they are like that by design. Without the luxury of a highway, the pilots likely realized they would never reach Calgary and decided to risk hitting the forest as best they could. Save as many lives as possible in the vain hope they don't all crash and burn on impact with the trees. That being said, I have no doubt in my mind that this was how their plan was meant to work out: Black is the path they intended. Red is how they ended up. Notice how the SunCalc projection of the Sun matches the intended plan? At some point over the Rockies, the plane just gave out and they couldn't go Southeast to Calgary anymore. They had to go straight south, more than likely because the valley they began to nosedive in was the only "flat" stretch of ground they had. Otherwise, they'd hit the side of a mountain. That being said, I will now give my prediction as to where the girls ended up. PART FOUR: THE LOCATION OF THE CRASH SITE We've made it to the end, dear readers. Are you ready for the big reveal? (okay it's not that impressive because i showed like six maps with a marker on where i think they landed at.) Look at all those sweet, sweet snow-capped mountains. When deciding where the plane had to go down, there needs to be a few things taken into consideration: - There cannot be eyes on the plane. We're not talking about Oceanic Flight 815 crashing over the Pacific a thousand miles off course. The plane needed to be isolated enough that there wouldn't be many/any eyewitnesses that could report it in.
- There cannot be civilization nearby. Look inside that stretch of red. Jasper National Park is 13000 square kilometers (over 5000 square miles for my fellow Yanks) and besides Highway 93 and a couple fringe towns in the north, tell me how many towns there are in those mountains. There are ZERO ROADS through the mountains, save the Highway itself.
- It has to have Calgary to the Southeast and Edmonton to the Northeast to match where the Sun would be at roughly 11:30 Pacific and to explain why they didn't go to Edmonton for an emergency landing vs. Calgary.
And, wouldn't you know it... https://preview.redd.it/ngzycajjs70b1.png?width=892&format=png&auto=webp&s=c208007e5baf4705eee88512e21453bb871d2ff4 It's isolated, it has the mountains and lakes/rivers that run through the Canadian Rockies, and it perfectly matches where the Sun would be at that time of day. My friends. I believe I found the Yellowjackets Crash Site. Jasper National Park of Canada. PART FIVE: VANCOUVER AND THE PACIFIC RANGE CRASH SITE??? A big argument against my theory that can be made is they landed in the area where the show itself is filmed and that is the mountains around Vancouver. The Pacific Ranges are a major location where the show is filmed and the same logic about the direction of the Sun can be used there, too. I would argue that they didn't land here, though. Even though it passes the isolation and the Sun direction tests, as well as being the filming location, I just don't believe the pilots would have made that wide of a circle to avoid the storm. To have the Sun to their left AND have a city that they could try to reach for an emergency land in the general Southeastern direction, they'd need to be approaching Vancouver from the Northwest. How much fuel does this plane have that it could go up and around the Canadian Rockies and nearly reach Vancouver Island? You also need to remember that they'd be up in the air for much longer if they made the big circle up and around the Pacific Range which would limit the amount of fuel they'd have left. I did the math using the Fairchild F-227 AKA the plane used by the 1972 Uruguayan soccer team that crashed in the Andes that Yellowjackets takes inspiration from (and because apparently the plane the Matthews family chartered is of similar size) and using this handy little fuel calculator, according to this they'd be running on literal fumes by the time they reached Vancouver. https://preview.redd.it/cz5cx4ytd80b1.png?width=1117&format=png&auto=webp&s=dc9ae7f3c8d095a0f93a414f50c40fe339f74ac9 It was just a flight to Seattle and it was the 90's so let's ignore the Airbus and Boeing 10 hour options and focus on the much more reasonable Dornier one for an example as it's probably a pretty good substitute for what was probably one of the better private planes available at the time. This private plane from the 90's probably has a larger fuel tank than a plane from the 70s so let's say it's got 1700 gallons of space like the Dornier above. Now remember that it takes 1hr 35min to get from Edmonton to Vancouver. Adding some of that time into the original flight and you have a minimum 7 hour flight on your hands if you're flying to avoid the storm. How much time can a plane that is about the same size as the Fairchild F-227 actually stay in the air before the pilots should really start being concerned with their fuel reserves? If anything else went wrong, they'd be screwed. And in this case something went very wrong. PART SIX: CONCLUSION Now I have to include some disclaimers here. This is obviously a TV show about cannibalistic teenagers and spooky cabin ghosts and cults and Catholic school girls' planes exploding out of nowhere and reality can and is regularly thrown out the window. Also our main POV for the plane's crash is Shauna and she was high on valium at the time so she missed all of the leadup to the plane crashing. This includes the storm, the direction the plane took to avoid it, and the potential doubling back to Calgary or Edmonton. All in all, I do believe I am on to something here. The route matches up, the timing matches up, the location of the Sun at ~11:30 Pacific, the topography of the valley they crashed in, and so much more. And if you don't believe any of that, consider this: Remember what I was saying about the pilots making a judgment call to just circle around the storm and reach Seattle in time rather than land in Calgary and wait for it to pass, a decision which killed dozens(?) of teenage girls and their head coach? There is a prevailing theory that the survivors of the crash sued the company that the Matthews rented the private jet from for negligence, be it from the actions of the pilots or the plane not having extra fuel tanks to keep them in the air longer, and they won a MASSIVE settlement. How else could Shauna afford to be a stay at home mom, how could Natalie afford multiple rehab stays as well as renting a storage unit to hold her Porsche, how could Tai afford that big house and eventually her run for State Senate, how could Van afford the video store (at least for a while) in the year of our Lord 2021, how could Travis afford to buy a new dust filter for a Hoover Max Pressure Pro Model 60 (shoutout to you Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul fans) and just disappear off the face of the earth for a while? And Misty... well she just kinda likes helping people even if she's an ass about it so I doubt money is much of a concern for her. And Lottie was already rich but I'm sure the money helped fund the cult, assuming her asshole parents didn't pinch it. So no matter whether I'm right or not, there was enough evidence to prove in a court of law that the pilots of this aircraft royally fucked up and they made a decision so bad that many people died and the courts deemed the case worthy of paying out a large sum of money to the survivors and probably the families of the deceased as well. End scene. I spent over four hours doing this. If you made it to the end of this without tuning out, I think we both deserve a reward. Here is a link to something funny. Enjoy it, share your thoughts, and please don't laugh at me for wasting my time doing this instead of being actually productive and writing my book(s) or playing video games or watching the show again hahaha Thank you for reading. Have a wonderful day. submitted by manband20 to Yellowjackets [link] [comments] |
2023.05.16 17:40 MindlessArmadillo382 How to get to Campus Store?
I don’t go to Algonquin, but I am trying to get one of the hoodies as a gift for a friend. I’m having trouble finding the entrance to the store(Connections?I think) on google maps. I’m assuming going through the Student Commons? Also where would I park for free, paying for such a short visit seems silly. I don’t mind walking from the College Square lot, if that’s the only option, TIA!
Edit: Got the item I was looking for! Thanks to everyone who had suggestions. Your campus is pretty great I love the walking bridges between buildings over roads and the Student Commons building was pretty nice too.
