Unsurprisingly, Shah Rukh Khan's most appearances with an actress is a tie - Juhi Chawla and Kajol each have 7 lead roles opposite him. Both appear with him for the first time in the early 90s - Juhi in 1992 with Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Kajol in 1993 with Baazigar. Also in 1993 came Darr, opposite Juhi again, although in a very different role. Over the next 8 years, SRK and Juhi co-starred in 5 more films, including hits Ram Jaane and Yes Boss, until One 2 Ka 4, their final starring pair. Their last couple films together weren't as successful. After this, Juhi transitioned away from commercial movies in general. Technically, SRK and Juhi united one last time in 2008, as the parents of the child in Bhoothnath, but the entirety of their co-starring films were released in the 10-year span of 1992-2001.
Kajol was different. After Baazigar, she starred alongside SRK three more times in the 90s. Karan Arjun and DDLJ both released in 1995, both of which are all-time blockbusters, DDLJ in particular being their defining movie as a couple. This led to insane hype for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, another huge blockbuster. 2001 brought their only film of the 2000s, K3G, another huge success. With three back-to-back romantic blockbusters, it's no wonder many children thought they were an actual couple at this time. After K3G, Kajol's presence in movies decreased greatly, but she reunited with SRK after almost a full decade in 2010's My Name is Khan, another hit. Their last film, 2015's Dilwale, opened to large numbers but was considered a disappointment. However, 6 of their 7 films are considered all-time greats by many, over a range of 22 years.
SRK also co-stars with Madhuri Dixit 5 times. Their first film, 1994's Anjaam, was one of Khan's villainous roles. Their jodi is more romantic in 1997's Koyla, but the film is still dark-themed. 1997's Dil To Pagal Hai is their first light-hearted rom-com, marking their 3rd hit. Their 4th film, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam underperformed, but their final appearance together, Devdas in 2002, was a hit not just in India, but worldwide. Madhuri left film after Devdas, releasing sporadically, mostly in non-romantic roles, which is why she and SRK never reunited onscreen.
It's worth noting, Madhuri was the secondary actress in Devdas - the female lead was Aishwariya Rai. Unlike many of the other actresses here, Aishwarya's first film alongside Shah Rukh cast her as his sister, in 2000's Josh. Later that same year, the two appeared as a couple in Mohabbatein, but while they received top billing, the film was an ensemble cast, placing them alongside 6 newcomers, and Amitabh Bachchan
and also she's dead for the entire film lol. Two years later, in Devdas, their coupling was one of the main attractions, arguably even more than SRK with Madhuri - but it was their last movie as costars. They were meant to star in Chalte Chalte the next year, but due to external reasons, SRK had her replaced in 5 films by other actresses. Aishwarya moved on to other costars, until stepping away from film after 2010. The two did reunite one more time - Aishwarya was a supporting actress in 2016's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, where SRK made a cameo appearance as her ex-husband. This pairing was unexpectedly stopped during their peaks, so they have way less films together, and Aishwarya seems to only come out for Tamil films now.
In 1998, SRK starred in 2 films that each debuted an actress in a supporting role - Preity Zinta in Dil Se, and Rani Mukerji in KKHH. These two were among the top actresses of the early 2000s, and co-starred in several films with each other, and with SRK. K3G once again puts Rani in a first-half love interest for SRK who disappears at the intermission. Kal Ho Naa Ho co-stars Preity Zinta and SRK, but the endgame romance of the film ends up being Preity with third star Saif Ali Khan, while SRK's character dies. That same year, Rani co-stars with SRK in Chalte Chalte, which shows a pretty toxic relationship and ends ambiguously, and their other film Paheli received mixed reviews. All 3 come together for Veer-Zaara, where Preity finally gets happy ending with SRK while Rani plays a nonromantic supporting role. Finally, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna stars all 3 again, with SRK married to Preity but cheating with Rani. This movie's unconventional story marked a career change for both actresses, whose fame decreased in the following years. Preity has left film altogether while Rani plays very different roles now.
SRK and Kareena Kapoor's first film together was Asoka in 2001, but she also played his sister-in-law later that year in K3G. She has a short appearance in Don, and a song alongside SRK in Billu, but they don't costar again until
Ra.One in 2011. Surprisingly, these are their only films together, even though Kareena has remained fairly active in films even in the 2010s while most of her peers dropped off.
Despite rumors surrounding their personal lives together, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra have never starred together outside the two Don films, and one song in Billu. This is likely because of the rumors about their affair, and its unlikely they'll star together again.
The late 2000's debuted two new actresses as SRK's heroines. Om Shanti Om came first, and was by far the bigger hit, launching Deepika Padukone to stardom. Despite this initial launch, she had a shaky first few years. Part of what stabilized her career was 2013's Chennai Express opposite SRK, which became another huge hit for the pairing. They appeared together again in the following year's Happy New Year. They don't reunite again for almost a decade - but this time, the actress remained fairly active while SRK was the one whose output decreased. 2023's Pathaan brought them back together and became a new box office high for both of them.
The other actress to debut in an SRK film was Anushka Sharm, in 2009's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. 2012 has Jab Hai Jaan, where the 2 costar with Katrina Kaif. Another 5 years pass before Jab Harry Met Sejal, but this isn't too successful. The following year, they once again appear with Katrina Kaif in Zero, which was a box office failure, and led to Shah Rukh taking a 5-year break from films for the first time since his debut.
In the 90s, as a newcomer, SRK acted opposite many actresses, many of whose careers didn't take off. By the end of the decade, though, he was more established and had a core set of heroines starting to form, and new actresses in his films often became successful too. During the 2000s, he almost exclusively appears with the actresses on this list. The major exceptions are Sushmita Sen in Main Hoon Na and Gayatri Joshi in Swades, both in 2004. The 2010s have been much less active for him, and mostly feature the same actresses as the last 2000s. Dear Zindagi is notable for having him costar alongside a newer actress (Alia Bhatt) in a completely non-romantic role. With his first release of the 2020s putting him opposite Deepika 15 years after their first film together, its safe to assume he isn't going to start romancing a new generation of actresses on screen.
Which of his established actresses would you like to see him opposite going forward?
