2023.06.09 05:17 motherfudgersob Mother recently died and left money tied up in brother in law's firm...

Brother in law is a Financial Advisor with his own firm associated with LPL (as I understand it a larger financial services firm that allows them access to market trading and a lot of other financial products). My sister was my Mother's POA with my brother. My brother left Mother's stuff to sister to deal with.
So they too 600k+ pooled it apparently and then invested it through my brother in law into CDs through 6 different banks. My Mother ALWAYS (over a decade maybe decade and half) had all CDs as pay on death with all three siblings listed. Mom was awesome taking care of every aspect of her funeral arrangements and such so we could just grieve. She intended us to have that instantly after her death without hassle.
So now being told it will be 3-4 months to first get from banks to LPL account. Brother in law is saying us a "TOD" account. WTF is that? Time of Death? Why three months and is this really ethical that my POA sister maneuvered all my Mother's assets (well most) into her husband's firm in investment vehicles shed have never wanted? There were several questions there...ethical for POA, who has an interest in the firm and his income via being spouse of Financial Manager and is it ethical for him to be doing this. Mother had been mentally off when the 600k was put into this investment (not declared incompetent but was having episodes of hallucinations, couldn't see or hear well and memory close to shot....for medical folks dementia with delirium depression and then sensory deficits).
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!!

2023.06.09 05:16 clapandjiggle Bad Things Come in 3’s

Hi! Little prelude: I’m on mobile. Please forgive my formatting errors / any lack of flow lol. Also, posting this on my throwaway. I’m a lurker on my main haha.
Okay, I have really been dropping the ball recently. I have an almost 20mo, and I feel super overwhelmed with just… life.
My partner and I moved states recently. It’s something we’ve done once before we had kids, so we thought it would be easy. Oh sweet Beetlejuice we were wrong. For starters, I took a hybrid job in January and left behind a toxic WFH position. Long story short, I was fired due to “not meeting expectations”. Its not as bad as it could have been because I was going to put in my two weeks that day. I do have a bit of a bruised ego, however.
Second, I’m trying to transfer over all of our things and get a secondary health insurance through the state. Well, we don’t qualify! I’m not working and my partner has a very junior position at this company. Oh, did I mention that LO needs to see a specialist at least once a year?? I have no clue how we don’t qualify?? I’m thinking I’ll just need to find a case worker to help but I don’t know were to search for that. I’m under 26 so I’m still on my parents insurance. LO only has insurance now because of a really nice case worker when they were was born.
Third, as a result of moving, I lost the best therapist I’ve ever encountered (and I’ve been in therapy for 10 years on and off). She was the first LLC to give it to me straight no bs. If I was wrong she would tell me. If I thought I was wrong but was right she stuck up for me TO me. She isn’t licensed to practice in my new state. I can’t vent to my friends or family for a variety of reasons. So loosing my LLC has been devastating.
I’m looking for employment actively and trying side gigs for extra cash. But I need to be able to work remotely so I can still manage my household and not dedicate 10 hrs a week just DRIVING TO A BUILDING to do 1/8 of the work I would be able to do at home!!! With rent being ridiculously high, groceries are still really expensive, daily bills because in 2023 you have to pay to breathe and now this insurance thing. I have no clue what my next steps are. Goodness gracious I need a prayer. Keep me in your thoughts bromo’s.

2023.06.09 04:54 yolo232001 Regional Banks - Ken Griffin & Michael Burry

Listen here Regards
While everyone's busy chasing AI, Sucking off Elon, high-flying tech companies, we’re missing an opportunity right in front of us.
They always say “follow the money” - How about the market makers themselves
So what are we overlooking? :Regional banks.
And guess what? Ken Griffin's Citadel and even Michael Burry are getting in on the action..
This sounds crazy, you’re probably scared to buy them right? Because they might go to $0 like SVB and FRC right?
EXACTLY.
You’re not paying attention to them right?
EXACTLY
Yes we know, Silicon Valley Bank collapsed, and that caused panic among investors. Stocks of regional banks, like Western Alliance Bancorporation, took a nosedive—almost 90%!
But amidst all the chaos, Citadel and Michael Burry's Scion Asset Management saw an opening. They recognized the potential in these regional banks. Citadel quadrupled its stake in Western Alliance Bank, and now Scion Asset Management has jumped on board too.
QUADRUPLED - KEN GRIFFIN
https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/ken-griffins-citadel-just-took-a-5-stake-in-a-regional-bank-that-was-crushed-by-the-collapse-of-svb/articleshow/98639543.cms
Why It Matters:
Now, let's talk about why this matters for you. Regional banks are quietly doing their thing, while everyone's going crazy over AI and tech.
A lot of the accounting people have mentioned as to why they’re in trouble is bullshit
Also as the economy recovers, they're likely to benefit from increased lending, rising interest rates, and favorable regulations. With Citadel and Scion Asset Management getting in on the action, it's a clear indication that there's potential for big profits here.
Final Thoughts:
I know it's easy to get caught up in the buzz around AI and tech companies. I do it all the damn time.
But sometimes, the best opportunities are the ones that are hiding in plain sight. Citadel and Michael Burry's moves in regional banks, including Western Alliance Bank, New York Community Bank, PacWest.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/michael-burry-of-the-big-short-gambles-on-regional-bank-stocks-193941176.html
Wish me luck my fellow regards!
Also, there is a small chance, although a chance bank short selling gets banned. Imagine that.
https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/us-prosecutors-look-short-selling-bank-shares-source-2023-05-10/
Positions are calls two weeks out for $WAL, $PACW, $USB, and $SCHW
My hope is all of them run, but I guarantee you even if one runs it will be worth the returns.

2023.06.09 04:49 Menotme8me Damian lillard

The aggregation is ridiculous. He hasn't asked to be traded. He's said he numerous times that he and management are in lockstep to make a move to get him help. I get that this is the closest dame has been to leaving but it's the same story and plan as it has been the last year and a half.
They tanked the last two seasons to gain assets with the plan to cash them in during this off-season. If they can't accomplish that dame said they'll have to have some tough conversations. He also said in that interview in fully expects to be playing in Portland next season and wants to retire a blazer.
Also, dame is not a loser. That infuriated me as much as anything mike ryan has said. He's head strong and determined to do things his way.

2023.06.09 04:46 visivopro Managing my time as a handyman.

So a little bit of a back story, I started this handyman business not really thinking much would come of it. It started a bit slow but in the last two days it’s picked up quite a bit of steam. I did over $3000 in revenue in the last two days but they were grueling days. First day I worked 10 hours and spent half of it in a super dirty attic running Ethernet for a new security camera system. The second day I worked less but I had a helper, we tore out and replaced 10 patio screens, redid all the west coating, hung a wireless security camera, patched a hole in some drywall and speckled and painted the trim around a replaced sink.
I originally started this because I work in the film industry. Right now most of the industry is on strike with no end in sight, I have a baby on the way and couldn’t waste time going broke.
I’m very handy and can pretty much do anything. I’m a hobbyist woodworker so I already have lots of tools.
I guess my question is. How do you sell your bigger jobs? Do you prefer to break them up into shorter days or do you tend to bang them out in one day?
I ask because when I get in the zone I’ll literally work until I’m sick or I finish. Towards the end of the day I’ll slow down and start having problems functioning. I also terrible at taking breaks and eating.
Has anyone had trouble with this and how did you manage your bigger jobs?
I’d prefer not to work 10 hours days because that’s no better then the movie industry even though so far the money has been better.
I’m launching my website and putting vinyl decals on my truck next week. I currently get jobs from Facebook and Nextdoor but I’m looking to branch out with the website the best I can. When I get busier I’ll be looking to take someone on full time to help and take some of the work load from me so I’m not running up and down stairs all day or carrying a ladder around a whole house 14 times by myself.
Also do you tend to quote a job price or an hourly? Right now I’m quoting roughly $50/hr plus a 25% markup on materials to cover the cost of picking them up or ordering them and driving around town off the clock. I don’t know if I’m doing it right but this is been what’s worked for me.
Also just picked up 1mill in liability insurance and $20k in lawsuit protection. I’m an LLC and have a DBA. I pay roughly $58 a month for the lawsuit and insurance. I’m not a licensed contractor so keeping my jobs under $2500 as per the laws in my state.
Anyway that’s a lot, sorry but just looking to see what everyone else is doing and what I could be doing better.

2023.06.09 04:44 QuestforFI Sell or Keep 2 Year Rental Home with Cap Gains Exemption Expiration Coming

We started renting out our house two years ago unexpectedly (I am not a real estate expert) when we decided to not sell because we weren't getting what we felt like were fair offers in a really competitive market. Our best offer was in the mid $650ks when a house with the same floorplan sold slightly over $710k about a month before. We had already started the closing process on another mid $750k house, which we now live in, and we didn't want to lose it for various reasons. I'm a little over 12 months from the 3 year capital gains exemption deadline and I am unsure of whether I should sell my rental within the next 12 months or keep it (probably for a very long time). We were the first residents and had lived in it just over 2 years. Here are some financial details that are relevant.
The numbers seem to indicate I should keep this, but I feel like I've only seen the positive side on being a landlord. I haven't experienced a real estate market in which I haven't found renters. I have had pretty low maintenance renters and I haven't had many expenses due to the age of the house.
If I did sell, I would use the proceeds to pay off some of the mortgage on my current loan (decrease debt) and invest the remainder.
Are there things that I'm not thinking about that I should think about?
Thanks for your feedback!

2023.06.09 04:39 TrevorKSmith Verizon Enterprise 10G DIA Internet to Residential Home

TDLR: Inquired for Verizon 10G DIA on official Verizon enterprise site, contacted and quoted by two companies other than verizon themselves. Have not had a chance to talk to verizon directly.
Hello,
Looking to get a 10G fiber to my residential location. I reached out to Verizon for more information through their official channels on the enterprise site. Soon after, i get a call in reference the the inquiry from mysolutionproviders.com. Domain was found when they followed up with me later with a quote. Then on the quote, i see the account manager for the account is another company with domain telarus.com, which seems to work with many providers beyond verizon.
Furthermore, but less odd, i see "Master Verizon Legal Entity: MCI Communications Services LLC d/b/a Verizon Business Services". I assume this is a company had bought out to provide serivce in my area and continue to operate using that entity. Just thought i note.
Now im sure this is all normal, but can someone please give me a in depth explanation of what is going on and why there is seemingly two companies in the middle of me and verizon, when i inquired directly to verizon?
My best assumption is mysolutionproivders.com is a sub agent buying leads from verizon, working with master agent telarus, which uses Verizon for end delivery. Both agents will get paid a residual on the sale.
I there a way i can avoid these middle men and just get a direct quote without all the bs and talk directly to a verizon representee on a enterprise DIA connection?

2023.06.09 04:31 throwaway245455555 Update: I filed for divorce today.

Tl;dr Prior post - walked in on my wife (~1 year married, serious committed relationship for 12) cheating on me w one of our closest friends 5 months ago. Turns out of they’d been off/on sleeping together for 1.5 years and a deep emotional/limerent affair. While OBS was pregnant/infant at home, and we were engaged/getting married/trying to have a kid. (We have no children, luckily).
I won't recap my prior posts, you can have a look through my history, but I'll say a screenplay of the last five months of my life would be thrown out of the boardroom for being too unbelievable. Some highlights:
Yeah. After writing that out, no wonder my therapist diagnosed me with PTSD.
I blocked her on everything a few weeks ago, and my community has cut her out of their lives. She emails regularly still to ask if we can go back to therapy (desperate attempt to be amicable, damage control on losing friends and me), sends blog posts on how infidelity isn't that bad, and with minor pet updates. She won't give me full pet custody (it's in her name on paper, unfortunately, but is actually mine) which is an obvious attempt at continued contact via a shared setup (via pick ups and drop offs) and has broken my heart to face giving it up... as I struggle with guilt vs duty to self to avoid contact with ex at any cost.
Now, me.
I moved out 2.5 months ago. Some days and weeks go by and I'm happy with my new life, and I manage to distract myself from the loneliness. I try to re-frame it as peace & freedom. Sometimes it's still overwhelming... depressed, and in pain still. Sense of ennui, numbness and pointlessness of my life. I have a great therapist and a community of friends, hobbies, healthy self-care routine but it only does so much.
The OBS and I are really tight (we'd been close friends for many years before this) - she's incredible and honestly an example of strength I aspire to. Definitely a light in my life, in more ways than one. But it's still really tough a lot of days. She filed for divorce also.
Our one year wedding anniversary (together for 12+) was a couple weeks ago and it's honestly been like D-Day flashbacks all over again. Very angry, depressed, consumed by the injustice of the life I worked so hard to build and the partnership I relied on - and was so proud of - being torn from my grasp. That she married me full well knowing I didn't consent to what she was doing. Grief at what I've lost.
I know I have a lot to offer, my life has potential and I'm perfectly fine on my own, but that was never my choice. Many days, I'm still reeling in pain. I work out (hard) regularly, lost some weight, get outside, see lots of friends, sleeping better, no solo drinking, on some medication that helps with anxiety. It's progress, but while I wish I could say I was killing it, unfortunately, I'm not.
Filing for divorce this week and getting a financial agreement together didn't even feel good, just a minor sense of accomplishment marred by concern that she's going to go ballistic and do something insane. I'm still not 75% of the way back at work and it's beginning to take it's toll (I work in a demanding field) despite an understanding boss.
I try to relish in the presence of my day to day life, not looking past the next couple of days. Compartmentalize the pain for some periods so I can actually look beyond my own trauma for a minute. But I'll be honest - I am unsure if I'm moving forward now out of momentum, habit or actual genuine desire for my life path and career. I'm emotionally exhausted, like a shadow creeps at the corners of my vision and saps the zest for life I had before this happened.
Obviously this person is a narcissist (clinical professionals have verified it, in fact), and I have no desire to get back together with her. I can't say I'm at 'meh' yet, it's more of an intense repulsion - who knows, hopefully one day I'll get there.
But I've been grieving the loss of something more ephemeral in a partnership. Like a pillar or keystone that's been removed I'm having trouble naming but can sense it's absence. Maybe it was belief or faith in myself and my path from someone I loved so deeply? It's more than just being alone. Still feeling out these scars.
I read success stories here and while I know I'm incredibly lucky in many aspects of my life, I wish I was there today. Many have it harder than me. I hope I can, and while have self-compassion for myself for not being there yet is sometimes challenging, treating it like a season to be experienced that will be over, one day.
Good luck out there to those of you in the thick of it. Recovery is a long, muddy, winding road.

2023.06.09 04:11 MisterMustard69 Investor Relations Consulting to Quantitative Finance

Hi All,
I’m a recent grad currently working as an Investor Relations Consultant at a reputable medium-sized firm. However, I studied Finance and Stats in school and feel that much of these quantitative skills are being put to waste. While I’m content with my job for the time being, I’m definitely underpaid and think I would enjoy a role that’s less communications-based.
I’m not even going to pretend I’m in contention for a hardcore Quant role, but what would it take to be an analyst for, say, an asset manager or L/S fund? Are there other data analyst or research roles which require strong capital markets knowledge but more basic basic coding skills that I should look into?
FWIW, I have financial modeling experience but lack coding skills aside from some basic R and Python in school. I’d be willing to start learning Python/SQL/R more seriously if there’s any roles that could be realistically attainable.
TIA!

2023.06.09 03:35 ImpossibleIdeals Transition to IT Unrelated Major

Hello everyone, first thanks for reading this. I know these types of questions are asked all the time so I’ll try to be specific.
I’m currently working for CGI Federal, as a business analyst and my major in school was Accounting. I was wondering if this job would classify as a “help desk” type role. I want to get a few certifications, (suggestions welcome) such as Sec+ and Net+. Right now I am purely functional and I feel like I need to get more technical to further my career. I also hold a TS Clearance and am in the DC area.
The current job is working as a tier 2 support for CGI’s Momentum
“CGI's Momentum is a full-featured, flexible web-based system built to support the full federal financial, budget, asset and procurement management lifecycles.” So an ERP system essentially.
What kind of jobs should I be looking for? My current job is not very appealing to me and I believe IT is a better field overall. I posted a job description of my current job below. Thank you for your help in advance.
Qualifications • Strong familiarity with the organizations, roles, and systems involved in the federal financial management process • Experience and comfort facilitating meetings, training sessions, and group presentations • Comfort presenting to senior leadership • Strong writing skills and prior experience developing agendas, minutes, and presentation materials • Demonstrated skills in the development/execution of SOPs, QRGs and step-by-steps using a Financial System • Proficient in testing and documentation of Financial System functionality • Strong analytic thinking skills • Business Analysis Responsibilities • The individual will be involved in a variety of functional and business process tasks to meet the client objectives • Analyzing current business processes and system functionality to determine the best methods for meeting operational objectives • Creating documentation, written policies, and standard operating procedures for distribution to all individuals involved in the migration process • Leading configuration sessions and to-be process definition meetings with migrating organizations • Testing system functionality and troubleshooting system errors • Providing desk side support one on one to users as they complete work in Momentum • Leading or supporting project meetings of system stakeholders to solicit and consolidate feedback on the system and business processes in use • Additional tasks as necessary to meet customer objectives
