2023.06.03 18:56 Lopsided-Leg-6016 [Question] why don't alpine slides count as coasters
This really intreged me when i rode a bobsled coaster in parc asterix. My home park has a alpine slide and rcdb doesn't classify it as a coaster

2023.05.29 11:36 GGamerFuel [Blackpool Pleasure Beach] trip report
I’ve been to Blackpool many many times in my life, but I’d never really been to the Pleasure Beach that often with the last time coming about 4 years ago in which I barely had the chance to ride any rides.
Basically, I decided I had to make a return trip at some point to rectify that.
Me and my friends got there substantially before rope drop and we decided to go and get the first ride of the day on Nick Streak in the back row and put simply, I was not prepared. The lap bar ended up being about 15cm above my lap so I got some of the most ridiculous standing airtime of my life on the third drop especially. It was easily the second biggest surprise of the trip.
Unfortunately, a lot of the rides that were posted to open at 10 opened later than usual so we hit Avatar Airbender and Wallace and Gromit Thrill-o-Matic which were both decently fun, Avatar Airbender especially was a lot more forceful than I expected and I have no idea how it ended up in the kids section.
Since we were in the vicinity, we hit up Avalanche. A lot of people say they experience some vibrations on these Mack bobsleds, but I didn’t really notice any at all. The layout was super fun and the sway and sense of speed really made the coaster feel out of control. The only major problem I had was that the restraint dug into my stomach a bit which caused a bit of discomfort, but otherwise no problems at all.
From there, we headed onto Revolution which is up there for one of the most intense rides I’ve ever experienced. The positives through that vertical loop were insane enough going forwards, but backwards was a whole other story because there was this weird backwards hangtime before getting crushed by the positives again. If you don’t like overly intense coasters then this one might not be for you but I absolutely loved it.
Afterwards, we tried hitting Valhalla but 20 minutes into the queue, the ride broke down completely and didn’t reopen for the rest of the day. Really unfortunate but I’m sure I’ll be back soon enough to try and ride it again.
After trying and failing to ride Valhalla, we got on the Grand National which was also a major surprise. I unfortunately got saddled with the wheel seat and some of the valleys had NASTY jackhammering, but I honestly didn’t care. The double down after canal turn is one of the most forceful airtime moments in the park and the ride still holds up almost 100 years later. I’d absolutely recommend it but be warned, the operations are some of the slowest on the planet just due to how the ride is designed.
We then went over to the Big One which is a coaster I have a history with. The first time I went to the pleasure beach when I was a child who was absolutely TERRIFIED of rollercoasters, I chickened out of it and the second time I went to pleasure beach, the ride had ridiculous downtime and I could never make it on. Well, I finally rectified that and it was 100% worth it. The lateral whip combined with the airtime you get over that first drop is ridiculous and you get a couple of seconds of sustained floater over some of those hills. The helix at the end also provides some really nice positives. The ride does have a kind of notable bumpiness to it, but you won’t notice it too much and it doesn’t cause any pain. I feel like people should talk about this ride more given how much everyone talks about Magnum (although I’d have to take a trip out to Cedar Point to see how the two rides compare).
We hit up Icon after that and I find it difficult to put into words how amazing this ride is. Everyone always says that Mack launches aren’t forceful which, at least for Icon, absolutely is not the case. The launch out of the station is only slightly weaker than Velocicoaster’s firdt launch from my experience and it kicks off what is an absolutely amazing layout. The hill directly after the launch tries to absolutely eject you from the ride, the inline twist provides hangtime in abundance and the Jr Immelmann (which is an inversion to me, RCDB can fight me on this) out of the second launch was just as good. Having re-ridden it now, Icon is absolutely my new #1 in the country, overtaking the Smiler. The theming, the music, the overall ride experience, it just comes together to be a complete package.
To close out the day, we hit up Infusion and put simply, I have been lied to. Everyone always talks about SLCs as awful torture machines that need a raft of changes to make them even tolerable, but (at least for Infusion, I can’t say anything about any other SLC) that’s just not the case. Before mentioning the ride experience, I just want to discuss the theming of this ride. It is absolutely gorgeous. Setting the ride above a body of water was a stroke of genius by the Pleasure Beach and it absolutely heightens the ride experience. Infusion has one of the most beautiful queue lines in the country and it was almost a shame that I couldn’t wait in it for longer because, since it was fairly quiet and the ride was on 2 train ops, it was no more than a 15 minute wait. However, I was still kinda worried for the pain I’d experience on the ride, but I really shouldn’t have been. Other than the inline twists at the end, there was literally 0 headbanging and the blur of inversions were ridiculously forceful. The rollover was great and some of the footchoppers with the water elements were genuinely frightening. Even the inline twists which were undoubtedly the most painful part of the ride weren’t too bad and in the end, I came off the ride with no pain and completely shattered expectations. It was absolutely the biggest surprise of the day.
In terms of the queues, we came on an absolutely perfect day as everyone decided to save their visits until the bank holiday which is today, so by going on Sunday instead, the park was absolutely dead. The longest we had to wait for anything was Grand National with a 30 minute wait and nothing else was longer than 20. The Big One really impressed me, because I expected the queue to take ages as the park’s marquee attraction but it only took about 15 minutes from queue entrance to boarding.
Overall, the day went about as perfectly as it could have done (except for Valhalla but for a newly reopened ride, that’s to be expected). I got 3 new credits to bring me up to 30 and had a great day out! For any American enthusiasts coming across the pond to visit Alton and Thorpe, definitely put Blackpool on your list as well.
