2023.06.01 07:03 Tirynx After a decade of dating, a year of engagement, and 5 months broken up, I tell him my mom is in the hospital dying…he tells me “thoughts and prayers to your family” 😵💫
Long story incredibly short, at the beginning of our relationship he was there for me when my dad died. A few years ago, my relationship with my mom went off a cliff and it has been wildly traumatic for me. He was there for me through it all, and when we broke up, he said he’d be there for me if I needed him, especially with my mom stuff.
This past weekend I got a call that my mom was in the hospital and that she could either choose hospice or a series of grueling surgeries and an even worse recovery period. On my trip home to see her, I texted him to fill him in because I’m hysterical and need his support. His response was simply “Thoughts and prayers to you and your family! Hope it works out!” I shit you not….I’m baffled and hurt and angry.

2023.06.01 07:03 Smerks101 Anyone else ever drive to Mexico for cheap dental? Los Algodones in particular
Im just wondering if anyone else has done this. I found it to so far be a huge help for expensive dental work and thought it might be a help to locals who cant afford to get the work done here or want cosmetic stuff done cheaper but by reputable quality dentists. Google "Molar City" or check out videos of the place on Youtube.
For anyone interested in more detail
My wife needed 3k in work done, thats with insurance, so we started researching ways to get this done cheaper without giving up on quality work. Calling around did nothing dental here is insanely expensive. We found a border town about 5 hours drive from here and its insane how many dentists (and pharmacies) there are in this little area that seems to have made a huge industry from Americans and Canadians coming there for dental work.
I met people from all over CA and elsewhere in the US since we stayed at a little hotel overnight for $60. Theres a bunch of cute stalls and shops selling jewelry and other stuff but nothing in the way of nightlife aside from the hotel bar. There are people getting extensive work that get their hotel stays picked up by the dental office doing the work, some do that. One guy was there from Texas getting something like 25 crowns done for around 9k (might have been a bit less or more) and had been there for almost 3 weeks.
We researched and found a few dentists with a good amount of good reviews and called them getting pricing on what she needed. We landed on $860 (highest was 1200) for the work, but have to make 2 trips since they wanted to do it right. Were going back for the second trip soon but the root canals are done and they are just doing the crowns when we return, so far she feels great, the root canals were perfect with no complications.

2023.06.01 07:02 Icy-Ad-1261 APS Resume advice
Hi,
Apologies for posting about the APS in the canberra thread but I havent been able to get any response on
Auspublicservice.
I'm trying to get back into the APS after a long break (12 years) in the private sector (mainly sales) but I'm getting conflicting advice on how to structure my CV.
Some recruitment agencies and APS friends who have sat on recruitment panels advise me that I should put my APS and policy experience at the top of my CV then put my private sector experience after that in chronological order.
Others who are in HR for APS government depts have advised me to make it strictly chronological because 1) putting APS roles at the top might make it appear I've had a massive work gap and 2) previous policy roles at APS arent going to be that important on my resume.
I've had quite a few private sector roles in those 12 years, so keeping it chronological means my CV would need to be 3 pages by the time my APS experience would appear.
Which option should I choose in structuring my CV?
Will it even matter - does the pitch/selection criteria have far more significance in determining if I get the interview or not?
Can anyone recommend a resume writing service that specialises in resumes for APS?
Any advice would be highly appreciated.

2023.06.01 07:02 mySFWAccount09 Dear Dad, Just updating you on the wedding
Dear Dad,
I know that it has been a few months since you left. I wanted to let you know that my wedding went off without a hitch. The ceremony was great and everyone had a blast at the reception. I still think you would had liked the venue. K was absolutely beautiful walking down the aisle. I really wish you were able to see her in her dress. Mom held up great and had a fun time seeing everyone. We even had her involved with the ceremony. I know how much you were looking forward to it but mom still partied with everyone. We had a bunch of your photos there so everyone would still see you there. I gave mom your boutonniere to keep. I'm not sure what she did with it yet but next time I am home I will see.
We are two days back from the honeymoon and it was fantastic. The ocean was the bluest I have even seen. You should have seen all the fish hanging out by our room, just school after school of fish. I did end up getting sea sick visiting the islands, it was the worse than when we would go out on our deep fishing trips. The trip was 3 hours one way on a sea bus hitting all these other resorts before reaching ours. The deep sea go pro case you got me for xmas worked like a charm and we got great reef footage. K found this eco friendly sun screen that worked great, didn't get burned once. We are still recovering from what turned out to be 30ish of travel once you take the airport layovers into account.
Everything worked out great but I still wish you were there to see for yourself.
Love, N

Use this monthly thread for all your transactional needs. Feel free to post what you have and what you want for any show date, not just shows taking place this month.

BUYING TICKETS
• IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY TICKETS, post the name of the show and the date in your comment.
• BUYER SAFETY- Report anything that seems fishy/scammy.
• If you are buying from someone on here please check out their post history. If they are a brand new account and they haven’t posted anything aside from a ticket sales comment chances are they are trying to scam someone. Obviously this isn’t always the case. But if I were buying a ticket I’d feel more comfortable buying from someone who has been active on here for a while.
• I would highly advise against paying with Venmo, CashApp, wire transfer, etc.
• If you pay with PayPal make sure you pay as goods/services NOT as a gift.
• REMOVE YOUR COMMENT AFTER YOU HAVE BOUGHT TICKETS!
---
SELLING TICKETS
If you have tickets that you are looking to exchange or sell for FACE VALUE, do it here. Please read the following rules before posting:
• DO NOT SELL TICKETS OVER FACE VALUE – This is against
ChicagoConcerts rules, convictions, philosophy, morals. We’re about the music… man. See Craigslist or StubHub if you’re trying to make some cash. You will be banned if caught selling above face. Please report any posts that are above face value!
• DON’T POST YOUR PERSONAL INFO - Please don’t add your phone number or email in this thread, if you end up getting a buyeseller send all that info through DM’s. This is only to protect you and is a site-wide rule!
• REMOVE YOUR COMMENT WHEN YOU’VE SOLD OR TRADED!
• Everyone always talks about being scammed while buying a ticket, but you can also be scammed while selling a ticket. It doesn’t happen as often, but it’s still possible.
• Keep in mind that transactions on PayPal (maybe other platforms as well? I’ve heard stories about Venmo) can always be reported as fraudulent.

We will do our best to keep this thread cleaned of scammers, but please realize all transactions are out of our control. Please be kind and be safe.

2023.06.01 07:01 CartoonYeti Ideas for a spare bedroom and other advice
My partner and I are about to move into a 2 bedroom and we’re going to use the 2nd room for either a guest room or a home office. We ideally would love a hybrid of the two.
Does anyone have any ideas for furniture? We were thinking of doing a nice desk area with a pullout couch but we’d need the bed in it to be comfortable enough for our parents to want to sleep in when they visit.
We’re also just trying to find furniture ideas in general. We’re not really into Ikea type of stuff so any recommendations for furniture brands for beds, couches, tables, etc would be awesome!

2023.06.01 07:01 AccountantBoring1313 Does AACSB Accreditation Matter Much?
I plan on pursuing an Accounting degree, but the program I'm interested in isn't listed with AACSB. It's with American Public University System (APUS) or American Military University (AMU). Is that a red flag? Will that hinder me? For background, I have a bachelor's and master's in Political Science. I am changing careers in the next couple of years from active duty military to, hopefully, the IRS. I will retire from active duty Air Force with 20 years of service as a senior non-commissioned officer. In the IRS, I'm not looking to climb any ladders, have a lot of responsibility, or even make that much money. I just want to be comfortable (GS-9 to 12) and primarily work from home. Any advice would be much appreciated. Does the IRS have recruiters or programs for someone like me? Thank you.

2023.06.01 07:01 vikkingss Edward Scissorhands
| Edward Scissorhands Introduction Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton and released in 1990, is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant film that weaves together elements of fantasy, romance, and social commentary. With an iconic performance by Johnny Depp in the titular role, the movie captivates audiences with its unique blend of dark humor and tender storytelling. Plot and Characters Set in a pastel-colored suburban town, Edward Scissorhands tells the story of a reclusive young man named Edward, who possesses scissors for hands due to a long-abandoned creation by his inventor, who passed away before finishing him. Edward's isolation changes when he is discovered by Peg Boggs (played by Dianne Wiest), a kind-hearted Avon saleswoman, who brings him home to live with her family. As Edward becomes integrated into the community, his extraordinary ability to sculpt topiaries and create intricate hairstyles gains popularity, making him a local celebrity. However, his unique appearance and socially awkward nature make him an object of fascination and fear among the townspeople, causing tensions to rise. Edward's life takes a dramatic turn when he falls in love with Peg's daughter, Kim (played by Winona Ryder), and the feeling is reciprocated. Their forbidden romance confronts societal prejudices and challenges the conventions of the town, which ultimately leads to a tragic climax. Themes and Symbolism Edward Scissorhands is known for its exploration of various themes and symbolism, which Tim Burton masterfully incorporates throughout the film. The movie serves as a commentary on societal conformity and the dangers of prejudice. Edward, with his sharp scissors for hands, symbolizes an outsider and represents the inherent beauty in uniqueness. He is a gentle soul with a pure heart, yet his appearance and abilities set him apart from the homogeneous suburban society. Through Edward, Burton highlights the importance of embracing individuality and appreciating differences. The film also delves into the pitfalls of conformity and the consequences of suppressing one's true self. The brightly colored suburban neighborhood, characterized by conformity, is juxtaposed against Edward's gothic mansion, symbolizing the clash between conformity and freedom of expression. The contrasting visual styles emphasize the suffocating nature of societal expectations and the need for acceptance and empathy. Furthermore, the romance between Edward and Kim represents the triumph of love over social barriers. Their relationship challenges the notion of love solely based on physical appearance, emphasizing the significance of inner beauty and emotional connection. Cinematic Techniques and Impact Tim Burton's unique visual style, characterized by dark, gothic aesthetics and a touch of whimsy, is a trademark of Edward Scissorhands. The meticulously crafted sets and imaginative costumes create a surreal atmosphere, transporting viewers into a world that is simultaneously fantastical and relatable. The film's hauntingly beautiful score by Danny Elfman adds depth to the narrative, heightening the emotional impact of key scenes. Elfman's melodic compositions perfectly capture the film's delicate balance between melancholy and hope. Edward Scissorhands received critical acclaim upon its release, solidifying Tim Burton's status as a visionary director. The movie's success can be attributed to its thought-provoking themes, memorable characters, and captivating storytelling, which resonated with audiences of all ages. Furthermore, Johnny Depp's portrayal of Edward remains one of his most iconic performances, showcasing his ability to bring depth and vulnerability to the screen. Edward Scissorhands is a cinematic masterpiece that continues to captivate audiences with its poignant storytelling, visual splendor, and thought-provoking themes. Tim Burton's unique directorial vision, coupled with Johnny Depp's extraordinary performance, breathe life into the film's exploration of individuality, conformity, and the power of love. With its enduring impact on popular culture and its timeless message, Edward Scissorhands remains a testament to the power of cinema to challenge societal norms and ignite our imagination. The film serves as a reminder to embrace our differences, to love without judgment, and to cherish the beauty found in the most unlikely places. The good or bad side of movies The Good Side Unique Visual Aesthetics: One of the standout qualities of Edward Scissorhands is its visual style. Tim Burton's signature gothic and whimsical aesthetics shine through in every frame, creating a dreamlike and atmospheric world. The meticulously designed sets, costumes, and makeup contribute to the film's surreal and visually stunning experience. Johnny Depp's Performance: Johnny Depp delivers a mesmerizing portrayal of Edward, bringing depth, vulnerability, and an otherworldly quality to the character. Depp's physicality and nuanced expressions effectively convey Edward's inner turmoil and longing for acceptance. His performance is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the film. Emotional Depth and Themes: Edward Scissorhands delves into profound themes such as societal conformity, the power of love, and the importance of embracing one's uniqueness. The film explores the human desire for acceptance and the tragic consequences that can arise when society rejects those who don't fit the norm. Its emotional depth resonates with viewers, provoking introspection and empathy. Tim Burton's Vision: Edward Scissorhands showcases Tim Burton's distinct directorial vision, blending dark humor with poignant storytelling. The film is an example of Burton's ability to create fantastical worlds and compelling narratives that challenge societal norms. It stands as a testament to his unique creative perspective and remains a significant entry in his body of work. The Bad Side Lack of Narrative Coherence: Critics argue that Edward Scissorhands suffers from a lack of narrative coherence and fails to fully explore certain plot points. Some find the film's pacing uneven, with abrupt shifts in tone and unresolved storylines. The fantastical elements, while visually appealing, can overshadow the plot's development and leave viewers craving a more cohesive narrative structure. Simplistic Characterizations: While Johnny Depp's performance as Edward is praised, some critics argue that other characters in the film are poorly developed and lack depth. The supporting characters, including Kim (played by Winona Ryder), are often reduced to archetypes, lacking complexity and failing to leave a lasting impact. This simplification of characterizations may hinder emotional investment in the story for some viewers. Exaggerated Social Commentary: Edward Scissorhands employs social commentary to critique conformity and suburban life. However, detractors argue that the film's portrayal of these themes is heavy-handed and exaggerated, lacking subtlety and nuance. Some find the satire too obvious, reducing the impact of the message and leading to a superficial exploration of societal issues. Uneven Tone: Edward Scissorhands walks a delicate balance between dark humor and poignant drama. However, some viewers feel that the film's tonal shifts are jarring and can disrupt the overall viewing experience. The blend of whimsy and darkness, while characteristic of Tim Burton's style, may not resonate with everyone and can leave some audiences feeling disconnected. Conclusion In conclusion, Edward Scissorhands is a film that evokes a wide range of emotions and opinions, eliciting both admiration and criticism from viewers. Its unique visual style, masterful performances, and exploration of profound themes make it a standout work in Tim Burton's filmography. However, it is not without its flaws, with some critics pointing out issues with narrative coherence, character development, and the film's heavy-handed social commentary. On the positive side, Edward Scissorhands captivates audiences with its visually stunning aesthetics, transporting them into a whimsical and atmospheric world. Johnny Depp's portrayal of Edward is widely hailed as a mesmerizing performance, imbuing the character with depth and vulnerability. The film's exploration of themes such as societal conformity, the power of love, and the importance of embracing one's uniqueness resonates deeply with viewers, sparking introspection and empathy. On the negative side, detractors argue that Edward Scissorhands suffers from narrative inconsistencies, with unresolved plot points and uneven pacing. Some characters are criticized for being poorly developed and lacking complexity, which may hinder emotional investment in the story. Additionally, the film's social commentary is sometimes deemed heavy-handed, lacking subtlety and nuance. Despite its flaws, Edward Scissorhands remains a cinematic achievement that continues to fascinate and provoke discussion. Its unique blend of beauty and darkness, coupled with Tim Burton's distinctive directorial vision, sets it apart as a thought-provoking work of art. The film's enduring popularity and impact on popular culture attest to its ability to resonate with audiences, even decades after its release. Whether celebrated for its visual artistry and profound themes or critiqued for its narrative shortcomings, Edward Scissorhands stands as a testament to the power of cinema to inspire and challenge our perspectives. submitted by vikkingss to u/vikkingss [link] [comments] |

We don't anticipate too much traffic or comments on this thread, but wanted to make it available to those who might enjoy or benefit from having it.
Lastly, if you do ultimately pursue offers posted here, PLEASE be aware that scams are rampant. Help protect yourself by following some of these (personal) recommendations.
Do NOT:
- Accept a personal check, ever. Or a money order or cashiers check that you were not present for when the individual purchased/obtained it.
- Use an electronic app to transfer funds. This includes, but is not limited to, Venmo, Cashapp, PayPal, Zelle, etc. While this seems easiest, it's incredibly easy to get screwed over with people sending you funds that they don't actually have.
DO:
- Accept only cash for smallemedium purchases. For larger purchases, insist that you meet the individual at their bank and be present while the bank verifies and issues a cashiers check right there, on the spot.
- Meet in a public place. For example, if you're buying a phone, there's no better place to complete the transaction than inside of a Verizon or T-Mobile store.
Let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Have a great month!

- WTS posts must include a price; no "make offer" posts will be allowed.
- WTS/WTT posts must contain a photo of the item with the username and the date plainly visible on a piece of paper to prove the item is real and in your possession.
- WTS/WTT posts must indicate whether the item is new or used. There is no grey area.
- WTS posts must include the cost of shipping. The seller is responsible for an item, including insurance/loss claims, until item is received by the buyer. International buyers assume their own risk and should discuss shipping, insurance, and customs issues before purchasing.
- Commercial resellers are limited to 1 "for sale" post per month. Do not spam the thread.
Posts that do not meet these requirements will be removed without warning. If your post gets blocked by the automod for not meeting rules, then please repost with the corrections made. Edits are not recognized by the automod.

Be wary of users contacting you by PM instead of in the thread. Banned users can still read posts and send PMs. This is a red flag that they may be a scammer.
If using Paypal, pay via Goods and Services - DO NOT use F&F payments. This protects both the buyer and the seller. Other payment methods such as Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, Apple/Samsung/Google Pay, etc., are use at your own risk and not recommended due to lack of buyer protection.
If a deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is!

2023.06.01 07:01 ankita-raut Broadcast Equipment Market Trends,Outlook and Opportunity Report
The
broadcast equipment market. sector now relies on encoders to provide accuracy, precision, and control. These circuits, which use combinational logic, transform active input signals into coded output signals. Multiple formats, including audio, video, and image data formats, are supported by encoders used in media broadcasting.
Additionally, without the use of cables, OTT services offer audio, video, and other media content via the internet. Video encoders are used by broadcasting players to provide subscribers with video of higher quality. The demand for encoders in broadcasting has increased as OTT-based content consumption has become more widely used. The launch of video encoders provides the sports, media & entertainment industry with a viable solution that allows remote production, remote operation, and live production in the cloud.
Read More: https://www.fortunebusinessinsights.com/broadcast-equipment-market-107019 Factors Driving Growth One of the main reasons propelling the expansion of the broadcast equipment market is the rising demand for high-quality audio and video content across a variety of platforms. A tremendous demand for content creation and delivery has been generated by the emergence of online streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ as well as the rising popularity of social media, necessitating the purchase of cutting-edge broadcast equipment.
Another significant factor in the market's growth is the adoption of cutting-edge technology like 4K and 8K broadcasting. These innovations provide better image quality and more immersive watching experiences, which encourages broadcasters to use them more frequently. In order to deliver more interactive and captivating information, virtual reality and augmented reality technologies are also being employed more and more in broadcasting.
Challenges and Restraints While the broadcast equipment market is poised for significant growth, it also faces several challenges and restraints. The high cost of advanced broadcast equipment is one of the primary challenges faced by the market. The cost of equipment such as cameras, mixers, and encoders can be prohibitively high for smaller broadcasters, limiting their ability to invest in advanced technology.
The increasing popularity of mobile devices is also posing a challenge to the broadcast equipment market. With the rise of smartphones and tablets, many consumers are turning to mobile devices for their entertainment needs, leading to a decline in traditional TV viewing. This shift in consumer behavior may limit the growth potential of the broadcast equipment market.

2023.06.01 07:00 courcake Get new housemate? Lower retirement contributions? Sell a kidney? Move to Central America? (Please help!)
Curious what others of the same mindset would do in my shoes. Thank you in advance!
I'm 31, have a masters in engineering (if that's relevant), have a stable government job, and live in SoCal (VHCOL and salaries do not keep up with COL). Been working 4.5 years. No car payment. Car insurance is liability only (old honda). Salary $116,600 (estimate around $10,000 in overtime/bonus per year, but this varies a lot and is out of my control; all percentages below are with my salary alone).
Housing Expenses: 34.2% of gross
- Mortgage: $2,880/mo
- 30yr, 2.75% interest, 2bd/2.5ba townhouse
- includes insurance and property taxes
- $528k mortgage; worth roughly $800k today
- HOA: $440/mo
Health Insurance: 2.0% of gross
Retirement Savings: 27.6% of gross
- 401k ($89k currently)): $22,500/year
- HSA ($20k currently): $2,650/year ($1,200 of health insurance premium goes into HSA)
- 401k loan ($1,600 left) : $888/year
- Roth IRA ($2,700 currently): $1,050/year
- Pension ($16,304 if I quit and cashed out): $5,066/year
Taxes: 17.9% of gross
- Income Tax (fed/state): $12,250/year
- OASDI: $7,000/year
- Medicare: $1650/year
Student Loans: 1.3% of gross
- Federal ($17,830 total): $133/mo once the pause ends
Before taking living expenses or discretionary expenses into account, I am already up to 83.0% of my gross income. I keep a very detailed spreadsheet of where my money goes. Roughly 12% goes to mandatory expenses like groceries, gas, household items, utilities, etc and roughly 5% goes to discretionary expenses. Honestly feeling kind of downtrodden thinking my education would have gotten me further, but my job is stable, not stressful, and gives me an excellent work/life balance. I teeter between being grateful for what I have, how lucky I've gotten, and feeling the financial pressure of my generation. Meh.
Anyway, right now I have a housemate, but she is moving out this month (June). She's a gem, but I've had horrible experiences with housemates in the past. Of course one option is to get a new housemate, but I'm hesitating. I'd rather live alone than with someone I don't like and people are such a crapshoot. It would probably be nice to live alone too. I can't save any more money than what's above for retirement without some kind of extra income, and a housemate is the easiest solution. I'd love to fully fund my emergency/life buckets: - Home Savings: $10,000/$10,000 - Dog Savings: $3,700/$5,000 - Car Savings: $950/$5,000 - Medical Savings: $1590/$5,000 - Rainy Day Savings: $3,900/$8,000 - Vacation Savings: $860/$5,000 - Want Savings: $200/$5,000 (funds my annual yoga pass and ski pass--currently rebuilding)
What would you do? Should I get a new housemate? Am I crazy for thinking of lowering the amount I'm contributing to retirement so I can live alone and still be able to build my savings buckets? I'm already self-conscious that I'm not saving enough for retirement and that I'm behind after 9 years of college. I feel self-conscious about not being able to contribute financially in the future to my relationship. Definitely open to other creative solutions other than getting a new housemate or not. I'd really rather not change jobs.
TL;DR: Some ramble therapy. Do I get a new housemate? Do I lower my retirement contributions? Both of those allow me build savings. Do I just move forward treading water? Do I sell my house and move to Central America? (Last one is a joke. Mostly.)
