2023.06.04 03:18 Savings_Fish_2377 Setting up my own scanner broadcast on my website
Hello scanners!
I just bought a Uniden BC125AT scanner, and I had a question. I want to set up my own broadcastify type stream on my own website. Does anyone know how to do this? I would set up a broadcastify for everyone, but I can't provide a reliable feed. But if I am away from my scanner, I want a way to still hear what's going on. Is this possible? I am pretty technical, and I have my own self hosted websites, so this should be possible. Anyone know where I should start?

Looking forward to the late night broadcastify calls where some yahoos decide they can jump it in their rented Dodge Challenger just like Bo and Luke.
Meanwhile, what a pissa’ for these seasonal guests arriving this afternoon.

2023.05.30 03:27 -BruXy- Evacuated because of wildfire
Hi guys, I am a bug-in type of prepper: blizzards, hurricanes, and power outages. I did not know that this year I will start to add wildfires to my portfolio and be ready for bug out:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/tantallon-hammonds-plains-pockwock-wildfire-evaucations-forest-fire-halifax-1.6857729 We are living in a community where houses are around 200 meters from each other surrounded by forest. Yesterday, it was an exceptionally hot day (last week there was still frost in the morning) and also very windy.
- We have got many alerts by mobile phone, FM radio, TV (https://www.alertready.ca/). From the first alert about the fire 13 km away to the mandatory evacuation, it took approx. 3 hours.
- Because of drought, the government issued a ban on all fires. A number of irresponsible people are still having bonfires outside or throwing cigarette butts from car windows is crazy. Last year, somebody did not extinguish his fire pit properly, and the fire spread underground to his backyard trees after 4 hours... This year there is an evacuation of 14000 people here.
- "TD Insurance" company, we have coverage for evacuation, we called them, but nobody knows nothing, they need 10 hours to figure out what is covered to call you back: hotel, gas, food. They are not effective to receive calls and communicate fast. We got asked what is our monthly grocery shopping cost and we told them around 1000 CAD/months and after 6 hours, they will call you that our spending for food should be 30 CAD/day (wtf? We are buying in bulk in Costo, having stuff in the freezer and cooking at home). 30 CADs is two full menus in Wendy's (15% VAT in Nova Scotia)... After my wife complains they told us, that food spending should be "reasonable" and that we should be collecting receipts for everything. Edit: TD Insurance also forbids to use of Airbnb as accommodation (have zero idea why?).
- Hotels around are hopelessly full, many of them are pet friendly, and some have "evacuation" cheaper prices, but we have booked via Booking.com at full price. With 3rd party booking, they are not able to change the price. We came to the hotel in the morning (after the night at a friend's basement) and it was crazy full, nobody is picking up the phone, but they confirmed we will get the room later (and we got it 7 hours later).
- Officials do not communicate many details, only closed roads, every time it is emphasized that fire is "out of control". Radio and TV are around one hour late behind the government, RCMP, or first responder's Twitter (have them in bookmarks for your local area).
- https://fire.airnow.gov/# -- handy for showing the fire and smoke, got updated approx 2 hours later.
- https://www.windy.com/ -- check the wind direction.
- https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/usfs/map/?fbclid=IwAR3hKhZD7U1sYE7kopiUpJSfjOUjwuvqbgzuUCxm3mrK63qX6UvJoztQ2XI_aem_th_AUtlLDx60K7F4j8uy4hJbDEs2_lagiEKM6nRanH2AbvORrrlnxKbtxqRzycF3YY6LNc&mibextid=Zxz2cZ#d:24hrs;@-63.8,44.7,11z -- Another view from satellite data.
- https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/goes/sector.php?sat=G16§or=can -- Fire temperature monitoring from GOES (geostationary satellite), but it has low resolution: I can see Shelburn wildfire, but not the Tantallon one.
- We left the house 1 hour before mandatory evacuation: got documents, notebook, hard drive from desktop), hygiene, and clothes for 3 days. I have Tecsun PL-880 receiver and two Baofengs. We left with two cars and communicated on GMRS frequencies with my wife (http://peppersradio.net/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=26). I am also part of the local ham radio community, one of the local 2-meter repeaters should be available for emergency communication, some people who are monitoring the repeater have radios for connection with first responders (TMRs). If a lot of people from one area start to use a cellular network it became useless and we had also local Bell outages before. Baofengs are quite useful, they have coverage for FM broadcast and weather emergency channels (https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/weatheradio/find-your-network.html). Apart from having some useful tools in cars (torch, first aid, knife, blanket,...), I did not prep for more (there are power outages in the area).
- Schools are closed, some of them announced it the next day morning, and some of them got closed early because of aismoke pollution (it was announced in the middle of the day).
- https://m.broadcastify.com/listen/ctid/4698 -- an online stream of local first responder scanners, but it is missing transcript and you need to spend a lot of time and focus to monitor it.
- Mandatory evacuation: police are going from door to door and driving around with a loudspeaker broadcasting alert. I do not know the details, was not there.
- We left our two cats at home, I was not expecting that evacuation will hit our area divided from the affected forest by a lake. Today, we came back to the neighborhood (a lot of local rural neighborhoods are having just one road to enter), after explaining the situation to a police patrol, they escorted us to the house and gave us 15 minutes to get them. A lot of people left vehicles at their homes very close to trees, definitely in ignition areas if the situation will get worse.
- Local facebook neighborhood group is quite useful.
- https://en.mapy.cz/letecka?x=-63.8013898&y=44.7456765&z=14 -- I am using these maps, instead of Google (or in combination with), they have actual aerial photos (Google maps are 8 years behind :(. It has also an offline map Android app.
- Saw a few crazy videos from dashcams of people escaping in flames with minimal visibility (turn emergency traffic lights on). It is probably safer to escape in a car than on bare feet, but not sure how air filter and air intake of the engine may behave in such conditions...
That's all observations from the last two days, thanks for reading. Happy to hear about your experiences!

2023.05.29 01:19 BlueLobstertail Broadcastify 60 second delay: Is it programmed into the app?
I've always known there was a 60 second delay between the scanner traffic and what is heard on the Broadcastify website and mobile app. I had assumed that was caused by the processes of digitizing the audio in remote locations (volunteers' homes), uploading it, categorizing it, and sending to devices that want to receive it.
Now I'm pretty sure that is wrong.
Twice recently I've lost internet connection to my desktop computer while I was listening via the web page, and both times I continued to hear scanner traffic for about 60 seconds. Then the same happened on my mobile phone using the black/orange Police Scanner app -- lost signal, but the app kept going for 60 seconds.
So, it seems that the delay is intentional, and done on the receiving end. Does everyone have this 60 second delay, and is there any way around it? That makes a big difference while following a police pursuit.

2023.05.21 20:51 LGOP528 Scanner app vs SDS100
Looking to listen to local police and fire in Houston. I was looking the SDS100 and decided to try an app just to get an idea of what is going on. I found that I can barely understand most transmissions. It is also all of Houston and and would prefer to listen to my local area. Seeing that most everything in my area is on broadcastify.com is it worth spending $650 on a scanner?

2023.05.14 02:34 Consuela_978 Dayton Montgomery Fire /EMS live feed
I was using Broadcastify. I know it depends on volunteers but at one point it said it was in transition then it just seem to be deleted (probably hit 21 day of being offline) just curious if anyone knew what was going on? It usually had constant 30+ listeners and compared to some of the other local feeds, that was a good following. Just thought someone would have picked up the feed for Broadcastify. New to all of this trying to learn.

*MAJOR SHOT IN THE DARK QUESTION*
I have a Police scanner that broadcasts the feed via Broadcastify in real time over the internet. I want to create a website that incorporates it for my local town that not only includes a live feed, but archives recordings. Is this possible?
Hosting: Hostinger
Site type: Word Press
Scanner: Uniden SDS100
Scanner software to feed Broadcastify: PROSCAN
Here is a site that's an example of what I'm looking for (just click listen):

2023.05.03 23:56 localmv Broadcastify has been down for weeks. Should I get a scanner?
This may seem like an odd question to many people here but we used to listen to the Broadcastify scanner feed from local emergency channels during storms and major events. That is no longer an option.
I know the Dukes County communications center went digital in the past year or two. But Broadcastify kept the feed up after that.
My understanding is that these emergency channels can be encrypted, making a personal digital scanner useless. And they cost a lot.
But I think Broadcastify operates by uploading scanner feeds from local people.
So either the local who kindly uploaded their feed for all of us decided to stop (after the digital switch) or the emergency broadcasters decided to switch to encrypted. Anybody know which of the two happened?
We live downwind of some serious wildfire habitat, and like all islanders would like to be up to date on emergency events. I’m sure the newspapers relied on those scanners to hear about bank robberies in progress (ok twice in a generation) but also major crimes and accidents. On the other hand I can understand why law enforcement and rescue personnel would prefer this information stay quiet. Don’t have a strong view myself either way but hope someone reading this knows if they went encrypted or if a purchase of a digital scanner would bring back the channels that aren’t encrypted (we can all agree some channels must be encrypted like SWAT and other high risk operations). Just want what is public in the eyes of the officials.

2023.04.28 04:32 NetN0mad SDRtrunk PC audio muted while streaming
Simple question, when SDRtrunk is streaming to broadcastify (with the integrated steaming tab) can the PC audio be muted and still stream to broadcastify?
I can’t see any audio controls in SDRtrunk, and after turning my volume WAY down I can’t hear any streams, but with limited radio traffic it’s hard to test 100%

2023.04.25 18:26 johnny_ihackstuff Help with scanning problems (PL, analog vs digital?)
Hi! I'm trying to do some basic scanning!
I'm using an (analog) BF UV-5R and I've set up just a few channels for PD, Fire, etc. (Yes, I know .. this isn't a question about the radio and I know it's not a proper scanner) I'm using a Nagoya NA-771 antenna (VHF/UHF 144/430Mhz, 2.5dBi gain).
For example, RR lists 463.7875 RM (Repeater, Mobile) Tone: 110.9 PL, FMN.
I set up CHiRP as with the frequency, Tone Mode=TONE, Tone=100.9, Mode NFM.
I did this same setup for a bunch of other local frequencies, but I'm not catching any traffic.
Did I configure it right in CHiRP? (I wasn't sure if the "110.9 PL" meant TONE, TSQL or DTCS)? I assume I can leave this off in CHiRP as I am not transmitting.
Are they digital? Is there any way to tell? I can't seem to find that information in RR and I can't filter by analog and digital.
I'm pretty sure there's traffic as I'm listening to what I think are the same channels on Broadcastify (although I can't tell because they don't listen frequencies) and there's traffic over there.
Finally, it seems like everything is going digital, and if that's the case I'm just out of luck without a digital scanner which seems expensive.
Thanks!

2023.04.25 17:59 johnny_ihackstuff Question about "PL" with frequency
I'm sure this is super basic for this sub, but I wasn't sure where else to post it. I'm trying to do some super-simple scanning. I'm using a throwaway BF UV-5R and I've set up just a few channels for PD, Fire, etc.
Or is it simply a matter of a crappy antenna and I need to get something much bigger?
I'm pretty sure there's traffic as I'm listening to what I think are the same channels on Broadcastify (although I can't tell because they don't listen frequencies) and there's traffic over there.
Again, sorry this is so basic.

2023.04.24 19:56 realtrancefury Need help getting "aplay" to default to virtual stream in pulse
Hi fellow PIers,
I have a pulse audio server successfully taking audio from an application and streaming it back out to the internet but I'm trying to get espeak to do the same thing piping to aplay. It seems to work but aplay only pops up for a few sections in pulse and disappears when the espeak is done. It's always defaulting to a direct USB Audio playback but I need it to pop up and route through a virtual playback. Just for reference, I'm running my streams through qpaeq.
Any ideas on how to default aplay through the virtual playback device? I've tried different combinations of -D devices but either it doesn't exist or is "in use" which I think is incorrect as well.
Details:
gqrx (Playback) FFT based equalizer on Audio Adapter Analog Stereo (Output) FFT based eq (Recording) Monitor of FFT based equalizer liquidsoap stream to broadcastify
when I play use espeak over aplay its:
espeak aplay Audio Adapter Analog Stereo
I need:
espeak aplay FFT based equalizer on Audio Adapter
but when aplay pops up for the time its outputting it always defaults to Audio Adapter Analog Stereo
