2023.06.07 05:13 gear-heads DOJ counters QAnon Shaman’s bid to toss his Jan. 6 sentence

DOJ counters QAnon Shaman’s bid to toss his Jan. 6 sentence
Jacob Chansley’s claim is based on footage aired by Tucker Carlson.
The Justice Department on Tuesday blasted as “meritless” a bid by Jan. 6 rioter Jacob Chansley — famously known as the QAnon Shaman — to unravel his conviction for obstructing Congress’ proceedings on Jan. 6, 2021, which landed him in prison for more than two years.
Chansley’s legal effort, fueled by Capitol surveillance footage provided to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson by Speaker Kevin McCarthy, distorts the “overwhelming” evidence of his criminality, argued Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Paschall in a blistering 31-page filing. In fact, Carlson’s footage covered roughly four minutes of Chansley’s trip through the Capitol and was nearly all subsequent to the most egregious examples of his conduct that day, the prosecutor wrote.
“The Tucker Carlson footage primarily shows Chansley’s movements from approximately 2:56 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Prior to that time, Chansley had, amongst other acts, breached a police line at 2:09 p.m. with the mob on the Capitol steps … and faced off with members of the U.S. Capitol Police for more than thirty minutes in front of the Senate Chamber doors while elected officials, including the vice president of the United States, fled,” Paschall wrote. “Chansley then entered the Senate Gallery unescorted at 2:52 p.m., where he proceeded to scream obscenities, while other rioters rifled through the desks of U.S. Senators on the floor below.”
“All these actions were captured by Senate floor cameras, a journalist’s footage, MPD body-worn cameras, other rioter’s footage, and/or Capitol CCV cameras; all of these actions were before the footage in question,” Paschall continued.
Chansley has claimed that the clips aired by Carlson were a new wrinkle in his long-winding case that he deserved access to before pleading guilty — that it showed him being “escorted” by police. He claimed that his previous lawyer shouldn’t have agreed to the terms of prosecutors’ plea offer before having a chance to review all surveillance footage from that day.
But DOJ’s Tuesday filing skewered that argument, contending the vast majority of the footage had been turned over to Chansley and his previous lawyer in advance of his guilty plea and sentencing. And that, in some cases, the footage Chansley’s lawyer had access to at the time was even more detailed than what Carlson aired.
For example, DOJ indicated that by May 2021, Chansley’s lawyer had obtained body-worn camera footage from two D.C. police officers who observed Chansley walking through the halls with a Capitol Police officer, Keith Robishaw, en route to the Senate chamber. (The scene was among those aired by Carlson, but the surveillance footage lacks audio, unlike body-worn cameras, which capture sound.)
And Robishaw’s explanation for his actions has been well-known. Footage shows he had been trying to convince Chansley and others to leave the chamber, only for his requests to go ignored — until a phalanx of D.C. officers surged into the chamber and cleared it of remaining rioters.
U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth sentenced Chansley in November 2021 to 41 months in jail at the time after Chansley delivered a stirring speech about the depth of his “repentance” — a speech that Lamberth said moved him to sentence Chansley to the lowest end of the range his plea agreement called for. Chansley was released earlier this year after a stint at a halfway house, and he has since embarked on a publicity tour, appearing on podcasts and granting media interviews.
Lamberth has not made his views on Chansley’s latest effort known, but he has previously expressed frustration with defendants who professed remorse in his courtroom only to reverse themselves afterward.
Paschall noted that Lamberth was effusive in praise for Chansley’s apparent remorse, calling his comments “the most remarkable I’ve heard in 34 years.”
“I think you are genuine in your remorse,” Lamberth said. “You’ve certainly done everything you could today to convince the Court that you’re a new person, and I think you’re on the right track.”
But the judge also said at the time that he viewed a 41-month sentence as appropriate because of the gravity of Chansley’s conduct. “It’s such a serious crime that I just can’t go all the way, even though you now recognize,” Lamberth siad. “But you said today what you did was wrong. You know what you did was wrong.”
Notably, Paschall indicated that if Chansley’s effort were successful, it wouldn’t result in the dismissal of the case against him altogether.
“Rather, Chansley’s guilty plea would be withdrawn, the charges in the indictment would be reinstated, and the case would proceed to trial — where Chansley, if convicted, could face up to 20 years’ imprisonment,” she wrote. “Chansley, therefore, may wish to consider whether the “relief” that he could obtain through these claims is truly preferable to preserving the benefits of the Plea Agreement.”

2023.06.07 05:12 bleppieeee hippospace discovered secrets so far

disclaimer: this is a collection of the super secret stuff to do with the command terminal and the traffic light machine, this is not related to the achievements.
if a duck floats into the giant dome through the tunnel (the door keeps closing and opening so it might take a while) it will find a giant room with a machine filled with lights in traffic light colors that can be turned on, you will not be able to access this machine until a duck gets there to load the area. there is a button on the top right you can press to get a special tv duck which will be important later. if you copy the pattern from the dominos (from the secret room in the first map) with the light, the screen on the left will give you a code which is unique for every save, you will need to keep this code for later.
now go to the big silver robot you can launch a duck from, on the right there is a command terminal which asks for a username, this can be found on the tv duck you found earlier but it is a pigpen cipher, decoded it says g.toto (this is always the same), input this as the username, and it will ask for a password, this will be the code you got from the light machine, once your in youll be able to use commands (case sensitive!) to view folders and a few files, the current known commands are:
dir (shows available folders and files once youve accessed those folders)
cd [folder name] (takes you into the folders)
cd.. (exits the folder)
open [file name] (lets you see most files)
currently the sys folder and log folder is empty, the sounds file contains 3 midi files that can be played by simply typing the file name in the folder, by opening the files you can see the notes played:
1.midi (D-G-A#-C)
2.midi (F-D-A-C-A-G)
3.midi (D-A#-A-G-A#)
the last folder is the forsaken folder, if you have not pressed the button in the infinity cool secret room, this folder will be empty, but if you have then there will be the Texture.db file, if you try to open the file it will tell you the file is corrupted and cannot be opened, however, a new error log will now appear in the log folder, by opening this file you will be shown a code which is unique for every save but follows a set pattern:
there will always be 3 sections of x y and z letters starting with a g. there can be between 1-4 of each of the x y z letters. at the end of the log there is a 3 digit number code which seems to be randomized. this is hard to explain so heres a few examples of codes people have gotten to give you an idea of the general pattern:
GXXGYYYYGZZZ619 (mine)
GXXGYYGZZZ976 (carnidoof)
GXXXXGYYYGZ881 (ilikecorndogs)
GXXXXGYYYYGZZZ735 (JorgeGameDev)
GXXXXGYYYYGZZZ509 (kraboo)
we have not discovered anything else yet, weve tried many combinations on the light machine using the error logs and the midi files but no luck. if anyone has any ideas or solutions your help would be much appreciated on the discord where most of the discoveries are happening, (in the-campfire channel), discord would also be much better considering all the drama following reddit right now.
p.s. the pigpen cipher on the outside of the dome translates to LETMEIN but currently we have not discovered if this is linked to the secrets or if it was simply the duck just wanting to get into the room.

  5. Step 5: Test and refine
  6. Here are some bonus tips and tricks to consider to choose the perfect niche for your YouTube channel:
  7. Conclusion
  8. Some Popular FAQs to Choose the Perfect Niche

How to Choose the Perfect Niche

Step 1: Identify your interests and passions

The first step in choosing a niche is to identify your interests and passions. Ask yourself the following questions:
  • What topics am I passionate about?
  • What am I knowledgeable about?
  • What do I enjoy doing in my free time?
Write down a list of topics that you are passionate about and that you would enjoy creating content about. Remember, you will be spending a lot of time researching and creating content in your niche, so choose something that you are genuinely interested in.

Step 2: Research the market

Once you have identified your interests, it's time to research the market to see if there is demand for your chosen niche. Use YouTube and Google to search for your chosen niche and see how many people are creating content in that area. Look at the views, likes, and comments on popular videos in your niche to gauge the level of interest.
You can also use tools such as Google Trends to see if interest in your niche is growing or declining over time.
"If you find that there is already a lot of content in your niche, consider narrowing it down to a more specific subtopic."

Step 3: Consider your skills and personality

When choosing a niche, it's essential to consider your skills and personality. Ask yourself the following questions:
  • What are my strengths and weaknesses?
  • What kind of content do I enjoy creating?
  • What is my personality type?
Your skills and personality will play a significant role in the success of your YouTube channel. If you're naturally outgoing and energetic, for example, a vlogging or entertainment niche might suit you well. If you're more analytical and detail-oriented, a niche that involves tutorials or reviews might be a better fit.

Step 4: Analyze the competition

Before finalizing your niche, it's crucial to analyze the competition. Look at the most successful channels in your niche and analyze their content, branding, and audience. Identify what makes them successful and what sets them apart from other channels in the same niche. Use this information to create a unique selling proposition (USP) for your channel that differentiates it from the competition.

Step 5: Test and refine

Once you have identified your niche and created your channel, it's time to start testing and refining your content. Pay attention to the feedback from your audience and analyze your channel analytics to see what content is performing well and what isn't. Use this information to refine your content strategy and make adjustments to your niche if necessary.
If you require professional assistance, Matt Par's Tube Mastery and Monetization can help you start a successful YouTube channel with guaranteed results.

Here are some bonus tips and tricks to consider to choose the perfect niche for your YouTube channel:

  1. Stay authentic: Don't choose a niche just because it's popular or because you think it will make you money. Choose a niche that aligns with your values and interests, and that you genuinely enjoy creating content about. Staying authentic will help you connect with your audience and build a loyal following.

2023.06.07 05:06 aspwil are we sure this is lord bung?

So first of all, i I know nothing concrete about this situation, and all of this is just speculation.
It seems fairly sudden, and somewhat strange that only the "chapter 3" shower scene was uploaded.
and with the statement that the channel will be closed soon.
if uploading this is meant as a final kind of "screw you im deleting the channel" why did they take it down?
It just strikes me as odd
Given the fact that Lord Bung is publicly close to Orion, and from the kwite drama I have been led to believe that they are a person with a history of manipulation, and the fact that Orion is listed as part of the team that makes confinement (he might have acess to files/channel)
Can we be sure that this is actually lord bung, and not some sort of retaliation due to strain in the relationship?
Now I'm not saying it's Orion, or that it can't be Lord bung, im not trying to defend or condem lord bung.
I'm saying that the situation at hand seems really really odd, it feels like we don't have the full picture.
I'm really hesitant to pass any judgment on the greater situation, given the strangeness of it.

2023.06.07 05:06 VeryFallible What to hunt for PvP this week: Beach Week edition.

One complaint we see often from new GBL players is "how was I supposed to know that I should have farmed 'x' when it was available?" While a lot of the people posting on TSA are veteran PVPers with absolutely stacked stables of pokemon, there are always people who are just now joining the fun. My hope in writing this post is to give new (or even just less experienced) players some idea on what they can grind now to start building out their own stables. We all have limited time to play, so hopefully this will help you target something specific to build our your rosters. If this is helpful, let me know - I'd love to do it more regularly.
Keep in mind that throughout this I'll refer to pokemon's "Records" vs their respective metas; this is their record in 1v1 shield scenarios on PvPoke. This is not the end-all-be-all of evaluating pokemon, but is a good starting place.
What spawns during "Beach Week?"
To save some characters, you can find the spawns here (spoiler alert: lots of water types!) You might also like to be aware of the general season spawns during our current season (Mystical Gems), which you can find here. I won't mention these much, but there will be some things worth mentioning a bit later.
What should I hunt if I'm a sub-level 31 player?
Everyone starts PVP at a different time in their PoGo journey - I know I was either high 20s or low 30s when I picked it up two years ago! The reason I'm making this distinction here is that level players level 30 and below do not have access to XL candy drops, which shifts the priorities greatly. (For instance, something like Azumarill, which generally needs to be pushed into high 40s, is much less of a priority if you don't have access to XL yet.) This is also a good list for people who are slightly above level 31 but don't have large PVP rosters yet, as the "trainer level +10" rule for powering up pokemon will keep you from being invest XL candy in some of the pokemon I'll suggest for level 40+ players.
  1. Spheal: If you're new to Pokemon Go PVP, Spheal might not look like the pokemon you'd expect to be grinding. But make no mistake: If you don't have access to XL candy, this IS the number one thing you should hunt this week. BOTH of its evolutions (Walrein, it's Stage 2 evolution, ad Sealeo, it's Stage 1 evolution) put in work in Great League. Walrein commands a commendable 21-21 open GL record; Sealeo gives up some wins in the open meta, but it occasionally sees play in Limited Metas. Walrein hits 1500 in the low 20s, but Sealeo needs to be pushed into the mid-30s to hit GL cap. Before you even consider building a Sealeo, though, you need to farm the candy for an ULTRA League Walrein, which can be built as an XL but also can slide into 2500 at level 40. With wins over Giratina-A, Swampert, and Charizard, Walrein is the best UL option a non-XL player can grind this week. Just remember that it does require both an Elite FAST TM (Powder Snow) and an Elite CHARGE TM (Icicle Spear) to build. Expect Spheal to dominate a lot of your time this week if you don't have Walrein built yet.
  2. Wingull: As a new player, Great League is likely the format you'll find yourself playing the most, and Pelipper is an absolutely fantastic budget option. Wing Attack powers out a steady stream of Weather Ball (Water), and Hurricane absolutely chunks opposing pokemon with shields down. Pelipper is cheap to build for Great League, maxing out at around level 27 and requiring ZERO Elite TMs for its optimal moveset. Pelipper is held back slightly by the omnipresence of Lanturn in the open Great League meta, but it's 21-21 record includes key wins against meta all stars Medicham, Swampert, and Galarian Stunfisk - the last one despite taking super effective damage from Rock Slide! As this is only a Great League option without access to XL, this should not be a long grind over the course of a week long event.
  3. Frillish: Great League Jellicent's impact is slightly muted compared to its XL older brethren, but this Hex-Powered jellyfish still manages to make waves. It's optimal moveset is Surf and Shadow Ball, and, like Pelipper, maxes out for Great League in the mid-20s without needing Elite TMs. Jelli and Pelli share some key wins (both knock Medi, Swampy, and...Gunny?). Jelli ultimately has a slightly worse record against the open GL at 20-23, but also has more flexibility for limited cups - while Surf/Shadow Ball is generally the preferred way to go, it has the option to go Surf/Ice Beam or Ice Beam/Shadow Balls in limited metas that call for it. As this is only a Great League option without access to XL, this should not be a long grind over the course of a week long event.
  4. Horsea: Kingdra's open Great League performance is a paltry 11-33, and Horsea even limited metas generally want you to be running SHADOW Kingdra in Great League, which is not a current option at Water Rocket Grunts. All that said, I do rate Horsea highly for players without access to XLs, as Kingdra can hit 2500 CP without investing any XLs...and only gives up a win vs Snorlax compared to its XL version. Kingdra is no open Ultra League all star, but it is a solid roleplayer in limited cups. If you're unable to access XL Candy, the grind for 300ish Horsea candy is at least worth considering.
Honorable Mentions: Staryu and Shellder both don't offer much in PvP, but both are HIGH dust gain pokemon (Staryu gives 750 on catch; Shellder, 1,000.) Catch every one you see for that reason alone. Lapras is not one worth hard-pursuing as its locked behind research tasks and raids, but is a great option for limited cups in Great League and a genuinely strong Ultra League contender with a more flexible moveset than Walrein. Mantine shares typing with Pelipper but exchanges Peli's spammy charge moves for considerably more bulk, but is much harder to farm than Peli due to being a rare spawn. Tentacruel is a consideration in a lot of limited cups in Great League; I wouldn't prioritize it over any of the above four, but I also wouldn't skip catching Tentacool. Crustle, similarly, has play in limited cups, but I wouldn't go too hard for Dwebble when there are so many better options.
What should I hunt if I'm an XL player?
If you have the option to push pokemon to level 50, Beach Week is your Cloyster. This event was tailor made for PVP! You should still try to get enough candy to build a Great League Pelipper since it's such a low requirement, but you really want to hone in on some of the great XL options below:
  1. Marill: Unlike it's Main Series Game iteration, Pokemon Go's Azumarill doesn't rely on Huge Power to secure wins. Instead, it's the sheer bulk that it gets by ascending into the mid-40s that makes it go 22-21 against the core meta. Remember that you really want a low attack, high defense/stamina Azu to maximize the benefit you get from XLing this mon. You should refer to RyanSwag's IV Deep Dive before investing in any Azu you get this week, but start farming those XLs NOW. I prioritize Marill slightly above the next pokemon on this list, just because if you're new to PVP you're more likely to be focusing on Great League. The good news is most Azu IV spreads max out in the mid-40s, which means you're looking at around 200 XL candy (as opposed to the nearly 300 needed for level 50 pokemon).
  2. Frillish: Jellicent is an absolutely fine Great League option, but it really unfurls its tentacles in Ultra League, where it is an absolute monster. A high stat product Jellicent has 29 wins in its record against the core UL meta; that's over 60% of the meta. Again IVs do matter, as a 5/15/15 Jellicent gets to level 50 while a 15/15/15 maxes at 45 (and its corresponding lack of bulk means it picks up two losses). This should be a BIG priority; you'll need 296 XL candy to max it out.
  3. Spheal: Everything I said about Walrein in the non-XL section still applies. You'll need about 400 Spheal candy to evolve, double move, and max out a Walrein in UL, so even though you don't need XL to build Walrein you should still go hard into farming for one if you don't have one. Again, requires two Elite TMs to build.
  4. Tentacool: Tentacruel has a BIG glow up between Great League and Ultra. Whereas Coolio only made my Honorable Mentions list for GL, XL Tentacruel is an absolute beast with a 25-22 record against the UL meta; there's an argument to be made that it should be higher on this list than Spheal based on record alone. Similarly to Jellicent, it has to be pushed close to 50 to really flex its tentacles, so don't settle for a high attack IV Cruel that's cheaper to build.
Honorable Mentions: Shellder and Staryu, again, are catch-on-sights due to the bonus dust they give. Dwebble's evolution Crustle can hit 2500 in the 40s, but requires a totally different Mega Evolution to farm than the other options. Lapras is showing up in research tasks and raids, and thus isn't as easy to grind as the other options. Gyarados and Swampert are both available in raids, but these are really only worth pursuing with your daily free raid pass.
What's the best Mega Evolution to use this event?
If you're fairly new to PVP (or to taking Go seriously in general), you might not be aware that Mega Evolving pokemon has any benefit on catching them, but it does. Active Mega Evolutions give a bonus to the amount of candy you get per catch to pokemon that match one of their types, with that bonus going up per mega stage - a Stage 3 Mega Evolution gives an extra 2 candy per catch, for a total of 5 candy. Stage 2 and Stage 3 Mega Evolutions both give a bonus chance to get Candy XL as well, with Stage 3 having a higher XL chance than Stage 2.
It's pretty obvious that water-type megas are ideal in general, so whatever Water mega you have at level 3 is best (Mega Gyarados, Mega Slowbro, Mega Swampert, and Mega Blastoise are all options currently in Go). If you have them all as maxed out options, I'd prioritize using Mega Swampert. Not only does it have the water typing to match all the above important pokemon, but it also gives you a bonus when catching the newly released Sandygast. The towers of Palossand, Sandygast's evolution, aren't reaching any stellar heights in PVP, but it's still a nice bonus. Mega Swampert also has a benefit for newer players in the Northern Hemisphere, as Mudkip is a seasonal spawn there currently. Swampert itself has considerable impact in both GL and UL, so while you have an entire season to farm candy for it it's still worth catching this week if you happen to get the chance.

2023.06.07 05:06 esop36 I would look for us to pursue Di Maria

With the recent news of his free agency, I’d like him in the team because:
  1. We simply the a pure left winger (I know the 4 midfielder thing, but it’s always good to have the versatility to play differently)
  2. IF Fati and Ferran leave as it’s rumored, we simply need more bodies on the attack
  3. The Messi connection. Besides the obvious fact that Messi would like to play with his pal, I think they make sense together footballistically.
  4. Probably not super expensive
What do you guys think?

2023.06.07 05:03 700PingMan The Nature of Great Herds, chapter 0, 1/?:

7th, june, 2023
Welp... time to lay my work bare for the world to tear apart.
Here's a snippet of the "sample" chapter for my first NOP fanfic, "The Nature of Great Herds", TLDR, Federation wins the Arxur-Federation War, spends the next 400 years becoming even worse than they are in cannon, before coming across a humanity beefed up enough to stand a chance of fighting them. This is set at the very end of the war so it can be considered a prequel chapter.
Im fairly new to writing still so any criticism is more than welcome. This is only half of what i have down for chapter 0, being about... 3/5ths of what i have planned for the chapter as a whole, the next half i have done is the Arxur dreadnought tearing apart Slanek's fleet before its finally destroyed and i want to see what people think of my writing before i go any further. Feel free to ask questions about "The Nature of Great Herds" as well.
Oh! and thank you u/SpacePaladin15 for creating this wonderful world of yours and by extension the community based around it.
(I would post this in HFY, but ill wait until this is done to post this there)
Memory Transcription subject: Admiral Slanek of the New Venlil Republic
Date [Standardized human time]: 12th of February 2210
“400 years… after 400 goddammed years its finally ending” I thought to myself as I weaselly breathed. I was lucky to have lived long enough to see this day, even with Kolashian age rejuvenation treatments. Even now my fur has long lost its bright grey lustre, its softness, replaced by a rough feeling, unhealthy old grey. But I had still pushed through. I had to. To See this day. The day the Arxur are finally made extinct. To see the day 400 years of pain and blood shed end.
All around me in my flagship’s CIC, I saw other Venlil. All of them younger than me by decades, all of whom were not even born before Venlil Prime was destroyed. All of them here for the same reason as i. Revenge. Revenge for Venlil Prime. Revenge for all of our people the who the Arxur had killed. Revenge for all the members of the Federation, the Great Herd, that the Arxur had killed. We were all here to cast these nightmares into the abyss they had come from.
We had spent months tracking down this fleet, their last remnants and it seems that they finally had a brief moment of partial sanity. If they were fully sane they would have killed themselves like the Humans, but no. They still had that typical predatory derangement. They wanted to fight. To make a last stand. To drag as many of us with them as they could, in a last bout of predatory bloodlust.
Already the battle was in full swing but it seems we would be the last to arrive. The Arxur were not fighting to kill as many of us as possible for some unknowable reason. They were trying to drag the last battle out for as long as possible. Why? I don’t know. I was certainly not complaining however. It would give us all the chance to play our part in the Arxur’s final stand.
“Admiral!”
It was the CIC’s subspace technician. I nodded towards him and he continued on with his report.
“Were about to come out of subspace, right behind the Gojid fleet! In 60 seconds!”
A wave of excitement filled the room. It was our turn now.
Once a minute had passed, in a wave of multicoloured light, we arrived, 250 ships total with 5 artillery ships with one of them being my flagship, exiting subspace right behind a battered Gojid fleet. They were down to half their numbers. I could not help but grimace. The Gojid… the race we were the closest with, who had taken in our sick our wounded… our whole race when Venlil prime and their own homeworld of Cradle was destroyed as well in the Arxur Blitz, seeing them so badly mauled lit up a spark of rage in me.
“Were being hailed by the Kolashian Flagship!”
“Connect it to my communication suite”
Static greeted my ear as a connection was made to the Kolashian flag ship, but soon the Static disappeared, replaced by the familiar voice of Grand Admiral Thran.
“Slanek, I am glad to see you have arrived. We are getting battered by their last dreadnought, that dammed thing is the anchor to their battle line, every attack we send towards it is warded off or completely destroyed. As long as it’s still standing we can’t hope to win this battle decisively or without horrific losses. You’re the only formation left within 100 lights years that has the firepower to bring that thing down, so do whatever it takes, ram yourself down its throat if you have to, you’ll have the support of every ship and federation fleet around you. I wish I could say more but they’re hitting my part of the line with everything they have, good luck”
The connection cut and I grimaced.
The last of the dreadnoughts… that ship. A shiver went up my spine.
The Arxur dreadnoughts were the culmination of the Arxur’s Behemoth class vessels. Massive bricks covered in armor and guns with an engine at the end, that could, with an escort, singlehandedly destroy entire Federation fleets. Vessels that the artillery ships were created to counter.
Then the Arxur deployed their dreadnoughts as we pushed on to Wriss. A desperate last gamble to slow us down. They were larger, faster, with more weapons and armor than even the largest of their behemoths. It took 5 artillery ships to even have a chance of destroying a dreadnought. And the word, ‘Dreadnought’, it means ‘fear nothing’. Even as we pushed onwards towards their homeworld, they did not fear us. Even as we destroyed every world that held their taint they did not fear us… even now they do not fear us.
Thankfully there were only 10 in existence, the rest having been destroyed. 3 by the Kolashians… and 3 by the Venlil.
The destruction of Venlil Prime at the hands of their behemoths had taught us well and we had come to specialize in their destruction.
If anyone was suited to the task of destroying their last dreadnought, it was us.
My confidence restored, I opened a channel to my fleet.
“This is Admiral Slanek, to all of the members of the New Venlil Republic Navy present with us at this moment. Today… 400 years of pain and bloodshed will end. 400 years of pain and bloodshed the Arxur have visited upon us. Together with our fellow members of the Great Herd, we shall burn away the last of the Arxur as they make their final stand. Our part to play is simple, the last Arxur dreadnought batters our forces, and its our job to remove it. We shall destroy that demon ship and its escorts, opening up the way for our allies to destroy the last of the Arxur. This is the most important day and duty of our lives, so fight hard and fight well. FOR VENLIL PRIME, FOR THE GREAT HERD”
The Venlil across the fleet heard me, giving a brief cheer, “FOR VENLIL PRIME, FOR THE GREAT HERD” before they returned to their duties.
All at once, the engines of 250 ships lit up, pushing us forward towards our hated fore with the Gojid fleet parting, allowing for us to slot ourselves into their battle line.
Whilst distant, if I zoomed in on the feed being provided to me by the many sensors present on this ship I could see them silhouetted against the bright red dwarf that made up most of this star systems mass. The Arxur, with their black, angular ships which had burned themselves into the consciousness of every member of the Federation. The Arxur ships present here was all they had left and what a meagre amount. 400 ships total.
But in the center of their meagre formation was IT. That dammed dreadnought which had claimed over a thousand of our own ships over the last year. Bright white letters in the Arxur alphabet were painted on its side, the Liberator Isif.
Named after some Arxur chieftain. 800 meters of black angular metal with a dagger shaped prow and boxy middle section topped off by its engines and short stubby missile spewing wings. It was easily larger than any ship the Federation could produce, even the bulk super freighters that sustained the undamaged core. Well… undamaged until the raid in [2170] that destroyed the Farsul’s archives. In front of it was a field of debris made up of over 300 vessels at least, the graves of ships this beast had felled, amongst them 8 other artillery ships. Its armament had done that. Its hull was dotted with massive amounts of kinetics and plasma railguns, enough to wipe out dozens of vessels in a single volley and its missile spewing wings could finish off any stragglers with a massive barrage of 100 missiles.
By comparison, the artillery ships of the Federation, including my flagship, were tooth picks. 500 meters long and rather thin by comparison to the hunk of metal that was the Liberator Isif. Our only armament was the 2 plasma beam cannons that ran the ships length. Both were needed to burn through a behemoth shields and then their armor, destroying the ship in one shot… most of the time. A perfect match against an Arxur behemoth. Against a dreadnought with its stronger shields, thicker armor and dagger shaped prow which could deflect most of a plasma beams energy at the right angle, it was near impossible to destroy a behemoth from the front with anything less than 5 artillery ships. Thankfully with the few artillery ships the Gojid had left and the 5 that belonged to my fleet I had enough firepower to take that dreadnought head on. And one of them was my flagship. The Tavra.
Whereas the Arxur flagship was named after some random Arxur chieftain they seemed to revere for some reason, the Tavra was named after a true hero who still lived on through her. 5 behemoths, and a dreadnought she has claimed for the Federation, for the Venlil. Now its time to add another kill to that list.
The dreadnought was preoccupied tearing apart another push from a federation fleet when we moved into position.
Almost immediately it broke off its savage attack, letting a wave of Arxur reserves move up to destroy what was left, letting the dreadnought go after the bigger threat, namely the 8 artillery ships that had just pulled up.
Arxur behemoths and dreadnoughts sacrificed range for sheer, raw firepower, as a result it would have to come to us, or we could just sit back and pour fire onto it once we moved a little closer. Whichever abomination was in command of the Liberator Isif knew this since they immediately began a burning towards us, with 60 escorts in tow. All at once, roared across every channel by the Arxur ships was a bestial warcry “FOR WRISS!” then at once, the entirety of the Arxur’s battle line charged ahead. Their bloodlust had finally caught up with them it seems.
“Have all of our plasma beam cannons begin charging now! and move our escorts forward and give us a screen.” An audible hum drowned out the ambience of distant machinery as the Tavra began to charge its main weapons. For the next 2 minutes we would be helpless as all of our reactors power went into the capacitor banks that seemed to fill every nook, crevice and seam inside the Tavra. Thankfully the dreadnought will take 3 to reach us. Once we hit it, if we don’t outright destroy it, then the shields will at least be drained to the point that our escorts can finish it off.
It was a suicide run, but it was their only option unless they wanted to die without being able to fight back. Dammed predator insanity.
For the next minute we tensely waited, as our capacitors charged and our firing solutions were calculated. Ammo was loaded and final checks made.
I gripped the handrail in front of me firmly… waiting for the last few seconds to tick down… waiting to give the order.
If we missed… we were in for a world of hurt.
