2023.03.21 21:23 Soggy_Cellist_6230 I got cheated on and dumped on spring break/my birthday.

We had issues and had broken up for about a month but decided we wanted to work things out. I went all in, gave it all I had and got her back. Planned my spring break trip to go and stay in a place close to her as it was too late for me to join her group. I did this so I could spend my birthday with her. Got down there met up hung out on the beach all seemed great. Later that night we planned to go out together with friends but my group decided not to bc of the price for below 21 she decided to stay with her friends (couldn’t blame her). We decided to go back to our hotel and hangout. I wasn’t hearing much from her and i was frustrated she was obviously very intoxicated. I got mad and let her know i was upset then went to bed. Next day she made me think that everything was my fault and we might break up because i was angry the night before. We discussed it i apologized then at the very end after we resolved her issues she says “there is something you might break up with me over”. She let me know that the night before she had been talking to some guys and one of them bought her a drink and then they talked some. he asked her for her snapchat and she gave him her instagram. i was in her bio at the time and later that night she decided to remove my name from it. she tried to to say it was unrelated to her giving that guy her instagram. I trusted her and decided that we should wait until the end of the week to make any decisions but i had one condition that she not go to any bars without me. this was the the day before my birthday. i was very upset and let her know that she was gonna have to prove to me again that i could trust her. Very bad idea shouldve dumped her on the spot. The next day(my birthday)i decide to call her i wanted to talk things over but she lets me know that i’m not worth the trouble that it would take for us to fix the problems she’s now caused and that if she was truly happy with me she wouldn’t have done what she did. Things got heated i said things i shouldn’t have said but don’t think i went too far. Tried to make the most of the trip obvioulsy it wasn’t what i wanted but i powered through and distracted myself as best i could and now i’m back in the fallout of what happened. not sure what to do at this point or why i’m posting this but hopefully i can find some benefit from this. sorry for the long read. Note: i understand it debatable to say she cheated however i believe there was more to the story than she admitted. I also have not spoken to her since that day.

2023.03.21 21:22 234and1 Newbie Question: first investment property - high cost

I am looking at my first real estate investment and looking at a ~$1.4M duplex + simplex combo. Two 4b3ba + one 3b2ba All units full through August this year. Total rental income is ~$10.7K per month and is actually on the low-reasonable side for the neighborhood. New interior ~2018.
I ran the numbers and it's cash-flow positive with 20% down at 6.5%.
I was originally looking at a much smaller scale investment in real-estate to start with (thinking of things in the $300K-500K range) - are there things I should be considering as a first time investor? It feels like a giant purchase to me and I'm worried about putting all my eggs in one basket. Is there any reason someone would sell something cash-flow positive in this environment that I should be checking?
Thanks in advance for anything to help my thinking.

2023.03.21 21:15 jazziscool123 SO got into fight with sister and he was in the wrong. I’m so embarrassed/scared of his actions and don’t know how to continue the relationship.

SO lives with his sister ( splitting the rent) in her house that she just bought. He had his own place before that but he absolutely hated living in an apartment because of noise. Things seemed to be going well in his new living situation until his sister got pregnant shortly after they moved in. This made him upset because he thinks she “set him up” and was lying to him about how serious her relationship was at the time. He seemed to get over it but still made remarks here and there about his sister that I felt were pretty rude. This leads to the argument last night.
SO called me after she’d already left her own house and went to her dads house. He was absolutely livid. A side of him I’ve seen before but directed towards me. So it made me really nervous. He was screaming and slamming things and calling his sister every name in the book. He called her baby a bastard since she and her bf aren’t married.
The argument started because SO’s car broke down and was vandalized on the side of the highway because he left it there for over 12 hours. His sister came to his rescue when the car broke down and got him a rental car in her name. For the second time. She got him a rental car last month as well. When he got his broke down car back home, he decided that this would’ve never happened had his sister’s boyfriend didn’t help him change his oil and fix a leak. He thinks this is what broke his car and also that his sister forced him to allow her boyfriend to work on his car instead of going to a mechanic.
The thing is that he has no job. He is paid by veteran benefits monthly. That money doesn’t stretch very far and when his car broke down he had no money. He didn’t have money for a mechanic. Which is why his sisters boyfriend helped.
This ended up being the main catalyst in their argument. He sent me a snippet of the argument that he recorded thinking it’ll prove how terrible his sister is but instead it just showed me how mean he can be and has always been. His sister was saying she was trying to help him. He just kept screaming at her and slamming his door. Told her he hopes she can’t make the payments on her house and it all falls apart, hopes her relationship with the baby’s father falls apart, called her a neurotypical bitch… it was awful. She told him this is why you don’t have anyone and not even her anymore.
And then when I tried to talk to him and help he got mad at me too and hung up on me. I’m just so sad because I don’t know what will come from his life and I don’t think I can be a part of it much longer. I can’t have that happen to me ever again. The yelling, name callig, blaming. I cant understand how he doesn’t see he is the problem.
The saddest part for me is that he was abused by his mother and it seems that he has her personality but maybe even worse. And he doesn’t see it.

2023.03.21 21:06 northhiker1 Taxes for 2023, how to best prepare?

Ok so taxes for 2023 are going to be a mess and I fully expect to hire a tax professional but wanted to see if there is anything I should be doing now to best prepare and what to expect when the time comes
I'm a resident physician, I work in New Hampshire, for the last 2 years (2021 and 2022) I worked and lived in NH. So come tax time I only had to file federal and no state taxes
Well this year I was forced out of my rental, my landlord sold and the new owners did not want to extend my lease (they wanted to Airbnb it)
So I lived in NH up until 03/01 on 03/01 I moved into my new rental in Vermont
I already notified my employer of the move and they had me file a w4 to withhold taxes for VT, but there was some lag and I got 2 paychecks before the withhold started, so I assume I will have to report that at the end of the year to VT
My residency ends June 31 and on July 1st I will be living in Idaho (I accepted a full time physician job there that starts 08/01)
So I'm guessing i will be considered a full time Idaho resident for 2023 considering the 183 day rule
Now when it comes to VT taxes will I only be required to pay taxes on income I made while living in VT 03/2023-06/2023 those 4 months?
How about ID, since I will be considered a resident of ID will I have to pay ID taxes on income I made while living in NH and VT?
Main concern is this. My new to be employer paid me a one time sign on/relocation bonus of 40k, this was paid to me 01/31 and was deposited into my account on 02/14. There was no withholding on this so I know I will have to report it on my federal return and I assume I will have to report it on my Idaho return since it came from my new to be employer located in ID
But will VT be expecting a cut of this 40k too? I was still living in NH when it was paid to me
I read about tax credits as to prevent paying double, will that apply to me?
Thanks!

2023.03.21 21:04 Glass_Status_5837 AITA for refusing to tell people where my new house is until I move in?

The housing shortage has hit my area HARD. The eviction moratorium screwed a lot of private landlords....people who werent part of a company. So much than rental have been selling off to big companies. Apartments and rental houses are extremely hard to come by. And the ones that have been coming open are requiring HUGE deposits, not to mention extortionate rent and laughable terms (such as wanting you to earn 5 times the rent...basically 6 figures in a blue collar neighborhood)
My landlord passed away a few months ago and I am trying DESPERATELY to get out of the house I am in. My landlord was a very nice man....which is why it's so shocking that his kids are such greedy, conniving you know what's who are fighting over his measure estate in probate. The kids won't fix anything and since the landlords death, my HVAC, plumbing and electrical have started to fall apart. With the house in probate, I can't even get someone to call me back. The kids want the house to sell, not rent out. ?not looking for legal advice. I have already done everything suggested to me. I just want out)
I had a nice house all lined up. Lease signed, deposit paid, was waiting on the final inspection to get the keys when I found out my boyfriend told one of his "friends" about the house...even gave him the address. And the jerk went behind our backs and offered the landlord more money. I had already scheduled to have utilities turned off and on, filled out my change of address and the landlord returned my deposit a week before I was supposed to move.
An older friend of mine who used to be a customer when I moonlighted as a bartender came forward with an offer. He has a couple of rentals. One he just recently evicted and another he's in the process of evicting. Both tenants apparently lived likearnyard animals. He was planning to sell both and be done with them. He offered to keep one the houses, the one that's already vacated. His offer: He will get the house back up to code and rent it to me for stupid cheap while I fix it back up. If I keep it for 5 years, he will consider it paid for and sign the deed over to me. (The house has been long since paid for) It's not in the greatest area but it would get me out of the current situation and it would be worth my while to make improvements.
People have begun asking me for the address so they can "see what it looks like." And I flatly refused. I haven't even given my boyfriend the address.
He and some of our mutual friends are calling me selfish and an AH for "trying to hoard affordable housing" when I could afford to pay more and for "thinking so little of them that I worry they might try to take the house from me."
What say you?

2023.03.21 20:55 YaIlneedscience Is it possible to be an ethically good landlord?

I currently own my home (not outright, still have a mortgage on it) which I bought all on my own, and am looking to move elsewhere and rent the first year until I decide for sure on where I want to settle next (between 3 cities). In the meantime, I don’t feel fully comfortable selling my home until I know for sure I’m permanently moving, but don’t want my house to sit there, as well as find myself stuck paying for a mortgage and rent. I was hoping to charge the exact cost I pay monthly, plus whatever it costs me for a local management company to oversee property management since I’ll be out of state and what the renter to be able to get things fixed quickly (all repairs I would be paying for unless intentional damage is done by renter). I’ve seen a lot of bashing of landlords and don’t fully understand if I would fall into that category if I’m renting out? I’d technically be profiting since their monthly rent fees would go towards my principle, is that what’s bad? Is it possible to be ethical and own a rental property?

2023.03.21 20:54 Former_Stranger8963 Sudden burst of numbness in my right hand

18, Male, 6'1, 270lbs, Caucasian, USA, no drugs/smoking/medication

So I've sort of been having this happen for a few years now, where I'd just be sitting down, watching TV or something, and all of a sudden my right hand just gets an instant burst of numbness/tingling sensation.
Like it'll start with no warning whatsoever, and then end a split second later. Making it feel like a jolt of electricity, but with numbness.
It's almost always on my right hand, and it gets the area around my ring and pinky finger, along with that side of my palm.
It doesn't necessarily hurt, but it catches me off guard and shocks me since it came out of nowhere, and it leaves me pretty confused, with my hand feeling sort of weird for a few minutes after.

Is that something I should worry about? Or can I just keep ignoring it after it happens, since it doesn't seem like it affects me at all.
It only really happens like once a month, maybe even longer, but when it does happen, it'll sometimes happen like 2 or 3 times in that span of <5 minutes.
I've tried looking into stuff online, but none of the websites or anything that I've visited had to do with that burst of numbness that I get, it's usually just about your hand being asleep or something like that, which isn't what it is in my case.

Need feedback! On my wonky, maybe overambitious 9-day itinerary in early August
So this trip to Iceland has been on the top of the bucket list for both my partner and me for years now! We're extremely excited and a big focus of the trip will be photography. We kind of assume we'll want to go back a second (and third?) time because we know there's too much to fit in even with the number of days we have. A note about my itinerary...I booked our rooms a couple of months ago and I was surprised at how quickly hotels were filling up even though I had been prepped on that aspect of traveling to Iceland. So, I kind of booked what I could around the Ring Road based on what was available and knowing we'd want to linger in the Snaefellsness Peninsula area. A breakfast buffet will be included at all of our stays.
So, there's one day of traveling that will be pretty grueling - Day 4 when we have to drive from Skaftafell to Husavik - and fit in a 2-mile hike. Total driving time is 8 hours. But, we want to be in Husavik so we'll be close to the Myvatn sites the next day. The rest of the trip has more of a leisurely pace, especially once we reach the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. If any of you know of particularly interesting or fun activities to insert on Day 8, I'd love the input.
Any feedback is very much appreciated and feel free to point out anything y'all think I should know!

2023.03.21 20:41 __bar_code__ [Landlord - NC] Steps to Becoming a Landlord

Hello all,
We are currently living in a townhouse community and are about to close on a SFH. Our plan is to rent the townhouse and the HOA does allow long-term leases. Even though I rented for nearly a decade before purchasing the townhouse (and I was a good tenant, always maintaining the property, and paying on time), I never thought of the process from the landlord's side. I have prepared the following list - could you please comment on it and help me with the process?
  1. Clean up the property
  2. Prepare a lease document
  3. Prepare a way of screening applications (credit check, background check, a way for the applicant to pay the application fee)
  4. Prepare a way for tenants to pay rent (Apartments.com)
  5. List the property (Zillow.com, Apartments.com)
  6. Select a tenant, go through the screening process
  7. Buy rental property insurance (also known as landlord insurance)?
  8. Have the tenant sign the lease
  9. Pay a 1-month deposit, pay 1 month in advance
  10. Hand over the keys
  11. Verify that the tenant has purchased renters insurance
  12. How to make the tenant transfer utilities in their name? (gas, electricity, water)
  13. Property maintenance: small repairs - myself, large repairs - contractors, hopefully not needed (2-year old townhouse), walls+lot: HOA responsibility

2023.03.21 20:36 Joelliceogt Volleyball shoulder(supraescapular neuropathy) be aware

Hi i think i saw a post regarding this here one time but i couldnt find it so i will make a new one. There is a not so common type of shoulder injury that volleyball players are more prone to suffer where your infraspinatus muscles wastes due to nerve injury.
I will post an extract from a post on the volleyTalk forum because its explained so well:
Suprascapular neuropathy, also called infraspinatus syndrome, or "volleyball shoulder", is an injury to the suprascapular nerve, causing atrophy (wasting away) of the infraspinatus muscle, which is one of the 4 rotator cuff muscles, located just below the shoulder blade. It appears to be caused by repeated powerful overhead spiking and serving motions and only happens on the dominant (hitting) side. Sometimes the nerve injury is due to compression by a ganglion cyst or by an enlarged ligament (both of which can be identified on MRI), or by a narrowed bony (spinoglenoid) notch under the shoulder blade (which can be surgically widened). These can compress the nerve, and these entrapments of the nerve can be reversed surgically.
More often though, in volleyball players, it appears that the nerve is just damaged by repeated traction during forceful overhead hitting and serving motions. Some athletes present with shoulder pain but most are asymptomatic except perhaps for noticing some weakness and/or heaviness in the arm. The first photo is of a pro beach volleyball player (identified as a former world champion) with atrophy of the right infraspinatus muscle. The second photo is of a 17 year-old indoor and beach volleyball player with the same atrophy on the right side. Both had no symptoms, except weakness of certain movements on the dominant side. The infraspinatus muscle is primarily responsible for external rotation of the arm and cross body movements. So if you bend your arm 90 degrees at the elbow and then try to rotate it outward against resistance, you will be much weaker on the side of the atrophied infraspinatus muscle. And if you do cross body pulls starting from above and away from your body, pulling down across your body, that will be much weaker also.
One group of medical researchers went to a pro beach volleyball tournament in Europe and got 84 pros to be examined and have MRI's. They found 30% of the athletes, including the one whose photo I attached, had infraspinatus atrophy in their hitting shoulder and marked weakness in external rotation on that side. Many of them were completely unaware of it. They compensated with their other rotator cuff muscles and continued to play at a high level.
For athletes who are found to have a RECENT development of supra scapular neuropathy, Xray and MRI can rule out a cyst or other structure compressing the nerve. If the athlete has shoulder pain, doctors will often operate. Even without a cyst or other ligament compressing the nerve, some surgeons will operate to widen the bony spinoglenoid notch that the nerve travels through, so that the nerve is not pinched during powerful overhead movements. If it is not felt to be a surgically reversible condition, then a course of physical therapy for scapular stabilization/mobilization and rotator cuff strengthening, can be helpful. From what I have found, it sounds like the muscle atrophy is usually not reversible if it has been present for 6 months or longer.

Now besides making the information more available for players who didnt know, i suffer from this injury although not diagnosed completely i have visible atrophy and weakness on my right shoulder. Aside from this i also have a slap tear and will be getting surgery sometime this year probably, i think most of the pain comes from the slap tear but im not sure.
Is there anyone who suffers from this or knows experience by their teammates? Im a bit scared knowing that if you have suffered from this for a while there isnt a way to fix the atrophy. Im not asking for medical advice im already working with a few doctors i just want to hear everybody experiences.

2023.03.21 20:32 No_Cake3061 He followed me back after 6 months

So, last summer I went on a trip with 2 girlfriends. There we met 3 guys at the beach. We were swimming, they were on a boat they had rented. They approached us and started talking to us. There was one guy who I thought was the cutest and I met his eyes a couple of times. While the girls were chatting, I was mostly swimming around quietly. This cute asked me "do you not speak?" to which I replied "yes I do" and then asked if i didn't know how to swim (because I kept spitting water but it was because it was very salty)
I was kind of interested in him, but later that day, one of my friends said she liked him before I could say anything.
We met them the next evening and as we were walking around the town, that cute guy started walking close to me and talking to me. He said a bunch of things like "I like your hair" "you're so short, what's your height?" "what's your tattoo?" Etc. Then he asked me if i was interested in him, to which I hesitantly replied "yes" because of my friend. and i think he thought i meant no because he kind of walked away after that.
then we all sat at a bar and i ended up sitting kind of far from him. And he had sat right next my friend. i kept looking at them and he noticed this and proceeded to say i was jealous of them for the rest of the night. the first time he said i was jealous i just rolled my eyes, the second time I sent him the finger. The entire night while he was hitting on my friend, he kept looking at me and talking to me. He asked me to change seats and sit closer to him but i didn't do it because of my friend. At one point he mouthed "don't be with him, be with me", because his friend next to me was hitting on me.
At another point, he used google translate on his phone to translate a sentence that means "playing hard to get" and handed me the phone from across the table.
But in the end, I hooked with the guy who sat next to me and my friend hooked up with the cute one.
When we got home, my friend told me the cute guy had told her that he had wanted to sit next to me at the bar, but I had sat too far away.
I was frustrated with him, so I followed him on insta and dmed him the middle finger, which he replied to with a smiley face. But he never followed me back.
Until now, six months later he has suddenly followed me. Is this supposed to mean something?

2023.03.21 20:29 chop924 "Supported" solo kite session on Cape Cod, MA?

Hi everyone -- my partner and I are going to be in Dennis MA this summer and assuming wind is good, would like to kite. We learned last year and are reasonably proficient with the basics. I am reading that West Dennis beach is good for beginners.
My question: Are there kiting schools/outfits in the area that would be up for a "supported" kiting session? We are still learning to stay up wind. Basically, we would be looking for someone to keep an eye on us in case we get sucked too far downwind and/or things go sideways. While down in Hatteras last year we saw kite schools that use a jetski to support their students (albeit the OBX sound-side is super shallow, so that also helps...) For what it is worth we don't need a full blown lesson. We would need to rent gear.
I'm not sure if this a service kite schools/shops offer, but thought I would ask. Any recommendations or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

2023.03.21 20:25 Steelsoldier77 Week 1 Recap + Power Rankings

Hey all, I'm back this year with your weekly recap and preview posts. Between another kid, finishing grad school and getting promoted at work I'm a lot busier this year than I was last year, so there's a non-zero chance I have to abandon this project at some point, or at least scale it back a bit, but I'll keep it up as long as I can because I like doing it.
In addition, I was planning on doing a season preview series, but I was called up for a month of reserve duty in the army and was unable to get that done. It's also a difficult task because it would require keeping a tight watch on roster moves for the whole league because team rosters aren't finalized until right before the season. So this first edition of my power rankings will kind of serve as a short preview for each team.
But anyways, on to this week's games. As usual, I would love to get other people's opinions about the games and players.
Arizona Rattlers (1-0) @ Quad City Steamwheelers (0-1) 60-53
The opening game of the season didn't disappoint as we saw the perennial powerhouse Rattlers take on last year's championship runners up Steamwheelers in a game that came down to the wire. Both teams traded scores for most of the game until late in the fourth when QC turned it over on downs and Arizona was able to capitalize and go up by two scores, effectively sealing it with a minute left. Both quarterbacks were electric, each throwing for 4 touchdowns and running for another 2 on the ground. Also of note- this was Jarrod Harrington's first game with QC, playing against his former team, catching a td and rushing for another.
Player of the Game: Drew Powell, QB, Arizona

Frisco Fighters (1-0) @ Green Bay Blizzard (0-1) 76-30
This game was actually pretty close for the first quarter, until Frisco scored 39 unanswered points and effectively sealed the game before half, by picking off Green Bay quarterback Jarome Johnson twice in the final minute of the half. Frisco looks like they haven't missed a beat since last year, with TJ Edwards as efficient as ever, not turning over the ball and rushing for 6 touchdowns on the ground. They didn't appear to be missing my favorite running back, Justin Rankin, who left for Bay Area in the off season. Jerminic Smith returned as their number 1 receiver, and defense was able to grab 4 interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. As for Green Bay, their defense looked nothing like the force they were last year. Losing numerous start defensive players, including rookie standout linebacker James Brown probably didn't help. As for offense, last year's starting QB Jack Sheehan left for the NAL, leaving GB scrambling to find a replacement. They started the game off with rookie Jarome Johnson, who is built like Marquise Brown. He had some decent designed QB runs, but was wildly inaccurate throwing the ball, and was eventually benched in favor of fellow rookie Max Meylor, who was also terrible. The only player who really looked like he was even trying was WR Steve Newbold.
Player of the Game: TJ Edwards, QB, Frisco

Power Rankings
  1. Arizona Rattlers (1-0): The Rattlers appear to be set to continue dominating the West. They didn't lose any key players apart from Kyree Woods, but they are stacked at defensive back anyways. They added start defensive lineman Ulric Jones from the 2022 champion NAZ Wranglers. And most importantly, they've still got two-time reigning IFL MVP Drew Powell leading them.
  2. Frisco Fighters (1-0): Frisco's offense is electric, with so many weapons at their disposal, the most important of which is quarterback TJ Edwards. Last year he and Blake Sims spit snaps fairly evenly throughout the first half of the season, but Edwards proved to be more careful with the ball and is a bit more agile. Honestly, he has a fair chance to win MVP this year is he can repeat last year's performance over an entire season. He specializes in throwing on the run, but also has games where he'll score 5-6 touchdowns on the ground.
  3. Bay Area Panthers (0-0): Anyone who followed the league last year might do a double take when seeing BA at the 3 spot, but anyone who followed the transaction reports this off season shouldn't be surprised. Their biggest move was probably bringing on Dixie Wooten, a former championship winning head coach, as their offensive coordinator. They then signed and traded for players such as LB Darin Hungerford, RB Justin Rankin, QB Dalton Sneed, WR Carlos Thompson, and more. Look for them to be this year's worst to first team, a la 2022's NAZ Wranglers.
  4. Quad City Steamwheelers (0-1): Quad City got off to a slow start last year, but was reenergized by the return of EJ Hilliard and were able to make a run for the championship game. This year, they bring back a strong offensive line, and most importantly EJ Hilliard for the entire season. Their core offensive weapons remain the same. Their big question mark this year is the defense, which was slightly below average last year.
  5. Massachusetts Pirates (0-0): The Pirates' strengths remain the same when compared to last season. Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield is super dependable, but last year missed time due to injury. They have a very deep receiving corps, including one of my favorite players Thomas Owens. They also built upon what was already one of the top defensive backfields by adding former Green Bay cornerback Momodou Mbye, who was one of the top at his position last year. The biggest change for Massachusetts this year is their head coach Rayshaun Kizer leaving to coach the Omaha BEEF of the CIF, but he is replaced by the Pirates' offensive coordinator, Mark Stoute, who has a ton of experience as head coach in the indoor game across numerous leagues.
  6. Sioux Falls Storm (0-0): Ok ok, I know some of you will call me a homer on this one but hear me out. Sioux Falls has brought back Storm legend and hometown hero Lorenzo Brown, who led the Storm to a championship in 2019. Brown played sparingly in 2021 and not at all in 2022, but if he can return to 2019 form he will elevate a Sioux Falls team that, while losing some key offensive playmakers (Carlos Thompson, Aaron Dilworth, Nate Chavious) gave its defense some much needed additions in All-IFL linebacker James Brown, defensive lineman Kyree Campbell and retaining 2022 IFL sack leader Undraez Lilly.
  7. Duke City Gladiators (0-0): 2021's passing leader Nate Davis got injured in the Gladiators first game last year, but that hardly had any impact on one of the most electric offenses in the league. They have what is probably the best WR tandem in the league in IFL legend Dello Davis and freak athlete Jared Elmore, in addition to Gregory Dent who scored touchdowns last year in all phases of the game. Now, Nate Davis is back and should lead this team to new heights.
  8. Vegas Knight Hawks (0-0): Vegas was wildly inconsistent last year, cycling through quarterbacks like marshmallows. But this year Daquan Neal has made the move from Tucson to Vegas and should give them a huge boost. Neal is a former MVP and championship winning QB from his time in Iowa, who also had a tryout with the Colts last year and was signed for a short period of time to the USFL. However, we saw Neal's play decline a bit in the latter half of the season, so it remains to be seen if he can return to form. He's got some good weapons, and I am personally pretty fond of WR KD Cannon. The Knight Hawks also have Kony Ealy on defense, who some may remember from his time with the Carolina Panthers.
  9. Iowa Barnstormers (0-0): The Barnstormers roster remains largely unchanged from last year, for better or worse. Quarterback DJ Peterson had some really great moments last year, but also some duds. It seems like when he gets just a bit of pressure on him he collapses and forgets how to pass. Maybe he will be a bit cooler in the pocket with a year of experience behind him. The Barnstormers were able to take advantage of a mediocre Eastern Conference last year and snuck into the playoffs, but I can't really see that happening again.
  10. Tucson Sugar Skulls (0-0): Tuscon is kind of an unknown at the moment. They lost head coach Dixie Wooten and star QB Daquan Neal, but have brought in 2022 offensive rookie of the year Ramone Atkins from Duke City, but questions remain if the new head coach can fix Tucson's god-awful defense from last year.
  11. Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-0): NAZ were the worst team in the league in 2021, going 1-13, but turned it around in 2022, adding a ton of talent and winning the IFL championship on the back of a fierce defense and solid offense led by Kaleb Barker. Now, he's no longer on the team, and the Wranglers have hemorrhaged key defensive players as well, such as linemen Ulric Jones, defensive player of the year Jaquan Artis, Darin Hungerford and more. The main positive they have going for them is head coach Les Moss, who should be able to keep this team from being the worst in the league.
  12. San Diego Strike Force (0-0): Are the Strike Force even still a team? Do they exist? You wouldn't know it from their website, which is still promoting highlights of their last win from the 2022 season. It's hard to tell what's going on with this team, but with no real splash signings, it's hard to imagine they've made a big improvement over last year's team.
  13. Tulsa Oilers (0-0): Tulsa is an expansion team, so we don't have any baseline to go off of. The one thing I can say is that their QB situation is not great, and they will need to decide between Giovanni Sanders, who sucked it up for a couple games for Bismarck last year, and Bobby Froehlich, who was pretty unspectacular for the Rapid City Marshalls in the CIF last year.
  14. Green Bay Blizzard (0-1): So Green Bay has the unfortunate disadvantage of having already played before writing my week 1 power rankings. I won't go too much into it at the risk of repeating my game recap, but any redeeming features they may have had last year (defense, mostly) were nonexistent this past game, and their QB situation is a nightmare. Good luck.

2023.03.21 20:25 Mikazukinoyaiba A Good Reminder To Always De-Escalate But Also Be Prepared

This story may be a bit long, but I want to make sure I have all the details right.
On a recent weekend during a bike ride I nearly got Right Hooked by a Pickup Truck.
"Whoa whoa whoa!!!" I yelled while panicking and trying to grasp my brakes from my handpositions (I have drop bars but my hands were at the tops) and finally came to a stop before I collided with the bed of the truck or worse.
Either in anger or as a part of me stopping myself from crashing, I recall slapping the side of the truck. The driver than stopped and began saying something, but at that point I decided it was best not to engage and just continue straight down my path. All I heard as I was riding away was "My fucking tru-" and kept going.
Nervous I tried to keep an eye out for in case this driver decided to re-engage with me out of road rage, but two blocks later and after a red light with no reappearance I figured they continued to their destination.
Halfway up a hill I noticed from my left peripheral vision a vehicle suddenly stopping and immediately unclipped from my bike, turning and faced the same truck stopped besides me. Immediately I reached into my left pocket for my pepper spray (which I keep on my person always for dogs and people).
Perhaps noticing me reaching the driver stated "Hey, I'm not chasing you down trying to start a fight or anything."
Hand still in my pocket I relaxed a little, but was preparing myself for on the off chance this man changes his mind and decided he does want a fight.
"I just wanted to apologize for almost hitting you, I mean you did hit my truck which I kinda understand, but I'm trying to be better now and just wanted to say 'sorry'. I don't think you really hurt my truck or anything".
Realizing that this guy wasn't going to exit from his vehicle to confront me, I decided to remove my hand from the left pocket and displayed my open palm.
"I didn't damage your truck, it was just an open handed slap on it. Thanks for your apology, I appreciate it. Have a safe trip back home".
The guy repeated his apology and wished me the same, then drove off ahead. I decided to wait back a little for he got caught at another red light, after seeing him clearly turn the corner I began to relax a little and continue my trek uphill.
----------------------------------------------------
This whole incident really spiked my nerves but I'm glad this incident of road rage didn't end up like the ER Doctor last month in LA. I usually try to not verbally say anything to antagonize a motorist beyond a simple "Hey!" to grab their attention during a close call. But I honestly am not sure if I slapped their truck as a part of me stopping or just in anger of a close call.
But this is a good reminder to always and try to de-escalate a situation on the road to increase the likelihood of getting to your destination w/o injury or death. Just wanted to post this here to inform the rest of ya'll to try your best with de-escalation as well as situational awareness while on the road.

2023.03.21 20:23 antimicrobial-amoeba Weightlifting with psoriasis?

Made it my New Year’s resolution to improve my abysmal upper body strength and general fitness after spending much of my life sedentary. But as luck would have had it, after a few months the calluses on my palms from lifting weights have developed into new psoriasis patches. I’ve been doing the moisturizer + cotton gloves routine at bedtime in an effort to stop it getting worse, but I’m wondering if anyone here has additional experience or advice to offer. Would getting a pair of workout gloves prevent calluses? Do I just have to keep my hands moisturized as much as possible? Obviously I don’t want these patches to get worse, but it’s disheartening that my efforts to improve myself might just be making me worse :(
