2023.06.02 13:56 UseSweet9759 UPS lost my snare drum
I shipped a drum within the USA using UPS. They attempted delivery but the item required a signature so it should have been returned to the UPS facility but it hasn't been seen since then.
I've called, emailed and checked the tracking everyday for a week but haven't heard anything. Is there a chance it'll be found or has the delivery driver stolen the item?
Thanks,
Tom

2023.06.02 12:59 tavins1234 What are some subtle details that really gives a house jam it's spice?
So I've always been a very "record a part, tweak forever and eventually record another part" producer. Haven't logged tons of hours in ableton session view. Recently however I got an SP404 MK2 which inspired me to experiment with a more live approach in productions and found myself doing a house track which is not really my usual style.
That being said I have the basic drum pattern down with extra little drums thrown in at the open intervals. Fun sample Melody, messing around with sound design like never before making acid bass etc. Its VERY satisfying.
However I can't help but feel like the overall vibe is a bit thin, like I need something to keep driving the kick and snare without distracting from it. What are some subtle but powerful techniques you use or hear in house music that adds that extra power or seasoning to the track?

2023.06.02 08:29 Push-not-pull To quit or to address concern?
I'm on the verge of quitting my band. Reason 1 is because we've began this project again in early march and as of this writing, June 2nd, we've rehearsed with a full band about 3 times. Other times its just the lead guitar, a self-proclaimed drummer who moved from Keys to drums, and me the bassist. Reason #2 we have no drummer!!! IMO the drummer is the backbone of a band. It adds punch and can switch the way a song sounds loud, soft, energetic, sluggish.
The guy we have right now has no creativity whats so ever. Tell me if I'm wrong for this, but why should the guitarist and I learn the song note for note, chord for chord, when he isn't going to play it beat for beat. When the track goes onto the ride he stays on the hi hat. If the kick and snare has a pattern he will simply play snare on 2/4 kick 1/3. Most of the time during improv he sticks to 8th notes on high hats, snare on then off, a simple 1 2 3 4 beat on kick drum. Nothing to feed off as a bassist.
I messaged the guitarist about this and she simply said we're all talented. Personally I feel like quitting and starting a new project. But at the same time i want to look for a new drummer who's actually creative and knows their shit. Any suggestions? How would you handle this?

2023.06.02 05:07 Darkmatter36 Just a reminder to get out of your own a** sometimes and experiment (feat. Audeze LCD-3F 2015)
Ok so right now I am typing this out of my pure amazement and also realization of my own stupidity (exaggerating). Over the past few months I have been recklessly buying used high end headphones that pop up for good prices just for the new experiences. I've bought like 6 or so and now I have a really rad pair of Audeze LCD-3F's from 2015. I replaced their pads and headband earlier this week and have been listening daily after work.
I had heard so many nice things about these early fazor models, some people saying they're the best tuned cans Audeze's ever made. Well I really haven't been seeing that. These sound pretty good but the sound stage is isolated left and right while being distant and disjointed. Also it feels like the music is being forced into this oddly soft tonality that I really don't like, ruining the pacing and impact of some of my faster songs while somewhat improving the slow vocal tracks. All in all, I was ready to pack these up and list them for sale, until about 30 mins ago...
I realized that I had been running these balanced through my Questyle CMA400i and that historically it doesn't play well with the odd headphone while running balanced. So I plugged in my XLR adapter into the quarter inch port and started listening to them single ended.
"Wow, what?" was my first thought and I quickly realized that these are one of those headphones that prefer a single ended connection. IMMEDIATELY the sound stage stuck together, pushing everything in a 360 around my head and funneling strait into my ears. The bass exploded into pure bliss and the vocals fill the whole stage vs sounding distant and recessed before. Still wrapping my head around this sound and it's fantastic, super relaxing and so much resolution. I really don't know if it's the warmth of this class A amp or the single ended connection vs balanced that is causing this level of improvement for these headphones. I guess I will have to keep them permanently and test them with different amps in the future.
Some songs that I recently discovered and their issues I had heard running balanced:
- Michael Jackson - You Rock My World : I love this song! So catchy and so much vocal power! Running BAL LCD-3 the main beat (loud snare clap) was very harsh, honestly painful. SE that pain is gone and the bass carries the melody much better. Michael's voice is way more articulate sounding.
- Paul McCartney - Say Say Say: Running BAL the whole song sounded weak and distant, but still good. SE the guitar took center stage and the piano and drums sit comfortably behind them. Michael's voice actually extends into the highs and sounds beautiful.
- Alice in Chains - Rotten Apple: Running BAL the bass guitar sounded off tone and especially distant when the electric guitar played over it. Vocals sounded shrill for being male and the best parts of the song sounded labored. SE the bass, right in my face; the symbol high hat parts, so tasteful and clear. Eat of the aaaple, so yoooooung. BLISS
Point being here is to experiment! Don't get stuck thinking X headphone sounds great this way so surely this is correct for Y headphone as well. This hobby proves to be so awesome and fulfilling, even after you think you've seen it all. Thanks for reading!

2023.06.01 23:44 CarBombtheDestroyer Looking for high quality percussive samples to replace organic cymbals and snare samples from toon track.
I would really like a vsti drum machine for this, with a lot of versatility so I can arrange the hits and not use things from pre constructed arrangements but have access to polished pre constructed sounds. I would prefer to pay 200 bux for a focused high quality product with 100 sounds over getting a million free samples that takes ages to sift through. Also a disclaimer Iβm on reaper so I use all 3rd party plugins, so tools native to fl and Ableton donβt work for me.
I think this song is sounding pretty sick but the snare in the buildups and cymbals just donβt fit right all the time Looking for some industrial cyberpunk sounding stuff as well as some softer more house sounding stuff. What would you use in place of the mentioned percussive elements?
You may need to copy this link in a browser to make it work.

2023.06.01 22:35 PaulleWaulle Electric Drum repair/replace? Alesis Crimson Mesh(original)
I recently purchased a second hand Alesis Crimson Mesh kit off FBmarketplace. In general its all in pretty good shape, but we noticed 2 of the drums weren't triggering as loudly, I opened up the snare to find a cracked vibration plate. I assume the tom having similar issues is damaged as well either by the plate or a broken sensor.
I was hoping there would be some guidance here on how to repair these, as well as IF I can repair them, where to get parts, and other useful resources. I have already scoured the web for info and am struggling to find it. I called 2 instrument repair shops and neither was comfortable taking the drums in to fix, it didn't seem like they'd worked on any mesh kits.
Additionally... If I cannot get them fixed, what other pads can I use with this Alesis module and where's the best place to get them? So far I'm finding it difficult to find individual electric drum trigger assemblies for sale, everyone wants to sell whole kits.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

2023.06.01 17:18 AmazingPlatform9923 Acoustic to Electronic Kit Conversion
Hello, drummers!
Before I take the plunge, I wanted to see if the hive-mind had any words of wisdom for meβ¦
Iβm a pretty new drummer, currently enjoying my Roland TD-17 but wanted to switch to a more realistic feeling electric kit WITHOUT the noise level that a true acoustic kit brings.
Iβve worked out that for about $2.5k (USD) I should be able to buy:
- A new kit (looking at the Mapex Mars or Ludwig Elements, as a start)
- Evans Db One Heads and Low Volume Cymbals
- Magnatrack LV Cymbal Triggers (including HH control)
- ddrum Triggers (for kick, snare and toms)
- ddrum DDTI Trigger Interface
This should give me the flexibility of playing unplugged, if I want to, but also connecting to my DAW for recording and sample triggering.
Is there anything Iβm missing here or any good/bad stories from you all about any part of this setup??

2023.06.01 15:59 38596fa582ff1d82b47 Tigtning my mesh snare has been life-changing
I'm a new drummer, got a Roland VAD103 a few months ago. It was bought second hand from a rich guy who got it during lockdown and never really played it.
I've been a bit down about the kit, since the snare has been really hard to play push-pull technique on. UNTIL I randomly googled "Can I tighten mesh drums" and OMG, I feel like such an idiot.
The drum key arrived this morning, and I tightened it using the clockwise-opposite tightening technique, and I can play push-pull double strokes on it! I'm guessing the kit comes like that, and the previous owner never tightened it, until I've just done it.
Please tell me I'm not the only one? Are there any other tricks like this i'm missing?

2023.06.01 13:08 thedld What is your take on drum muffling for recording?
Hi,
I've been trying to record drums in my project studio for the past three-ish years. It has been an interesting learning process, and I have gradually managed to fix most of the problems that plagued me at the beginning. I am now able to produce satisfying recordings. But I cheat.
What I wanted to discuss with you today is this: I have found muffling to be an absolutely essential, unavoidable component of recording the drums properly. Specifically on the reso heads, to eliminate tom-hum. I know that many of you, most of whom are more experienced drummers than I, are vehemently against it. I am confident enough now to go ahead and do it anyway, but I'm still very curious how - and to be honest,
if - you get away without it in the studio.
I'd love to hear your ideas and discussion input on this. To keep the discussion focused, here are some specifics on what I'm trying to do:
- I am recording in a fairly oddly shaped room, circa 8.5 feet x 16.5 feet. The room has a medium-high, vaulted ceiling (i.e. not parallel to the floor). The entire room is very well isolated and acoustically well-treated. There's a lot of absorption around the kit, and a little more diffusion at the other end of the room.
- The drum kit is a birch shell set with a nice maple snare and good cymbals. Most importantly, it sound very good in the room. I currently have coated 2-ply heads (Emperors) on the batters, clear Ambassadors on the reso side.
- I am musically adventurous, but the sound I'm going for is in essence a minimal rock sound. Not metal, not jazz. Think Steve Albini's recordings of Pixies and Breeders, or Slint, Karate, etc. It is a roomy sound, but not the big, wet Bonzo roomy, or the very open sound of a jazz kit. It is also more softly played (and thus recorded) than full-blown hard rock.
- The specific problem for which I appear to need muffling is to eliminate sympathetic Tom hum, which is noticeable on all the mics. Anytime I touch the kit, all Tom reso heads (the Ambassadors) sing. I cannot tune this out, and I hate gating or other mixtime hacks. I used to have the same problem with the batters, but since I replaced them with Emperors that problem has disappeared.
- Of course, I could try the same trick on the reso heads, i.e. replace them with 2-ply heads, but when I scrape the forums nobody appears to be doing that. I also search for people that muffle their reso heads with tape, but that is also extremely rare. I see people using cotton balls, mostly in the floor tom, but this is also frowned upon by many people.
Ultimately, my question is this: those of you who don't want to use 2-ply reso heads and are strongly against gaffa tape on the resos, how on earth do you get your toms quiet enough to record? Naturally, this question is pointless if you are a very loud drummer, or a live-only drummer.
Thanks in advance!!
Edit:
Thanks everyone for the great responses! They have all been very helpful.
