2020.09.02 05:49 mfc248 Jeopardy! broadcast changes for Season 37

As many of you know, and for those who don't, I maintain a comprehensive list of every television station in the United States upon which Jeopardy! airs — and I've recently added a table with Canadian stations. With the new season now showing on TV listings sites, I've done my "virtual road trip from Columbus Circle to South Douglas Street"; that is, I checked the listings in every Nielsen Designated Market Area in the United States, to make sure everything's on point. When new episodes get underway on September 14, only one market two markets will see a change — but the changes are quite substantial.
Kansas City: 2:00 pm on WDAF (Fox), previously 3:30 pm on KSHB (NBC). The two main listings sites I use, Zap2it and TitanTV, were not in agreement on this one, but based on the totality of the evidence, this move appears to be going down. Jeopardy! replaces The Mel Robbins Show, not renewed for a second season. (The Daytime J! rerun will fill out the hour following the new episode.) That 3:00 hour on KSHB goes over to The Drew Barrymore Show, a new talk show this season. What's frustrating about this is that as of now, neither KSHB nor WDAF has said anything about a move. I'll be keeping a look out for a statement, but wanted to list this especially as a heads up to viewers in that area. EDIT, 9/8/20: WDAF has confirmed that the show will be moving there.
WAKA (CBS Montgomery-Selma, AL): 4:30 pm, previously 9:30 am. Hat tip to u/thenmark2 for alerting us to this one in the comments. WAKA is realigning much of its daytime lineup; as a result, the station surrenders its "first-in-the-nation" status to a trio of ABC affiliates: KLTV (Tyler, TX); WBBJ (Jackson, TN); and WTOK (Meridian, MS). Accordingly, that change appears to implicate both the posting of game threads and the interpretation of our Rule 2 (the key time regarding both would now be 12:30 pm ET, after the show airs in those three markets I mentioned above).
While that's the only start-of-season alteration, several other corrections were made to the list.
Nashville. WZTV (Fox) returned Jeopardy! to 5:00 pm there on June 1, following a brief relocation to 3:30 to de-conflict with pandemic briefings.
Sioux Falls, SD. This is one that slipped by me a while back. Gray Television, the owner of KSFY (ABC) — which had aired Jeopardy! in that market for decades, purchased KDLT (NBC) in late 2019. On January 13 of this year, the stations combined their local news operations, and as a consequence, J! was moved from 2:30 pm on KSFY to 5 pm on KDLT. I discovered that u/MyronM mentioned this at the time on JBoard when it happened, including a link to the official announcement.
Rockford, IL. WREX (NBC) in this market moved the first-run and daytime Jeopardy! airings from the 3 pm hour to the 4 pm hour to keep it clear of pandemic briefings. It moved back to the 3 pm hour on June 1, but sometime between now and then, it shifted back to 4 pm. Based on the original air dates of the repeats currently airing, it appears that the "current" episodes are airing at 4:00, and the "daytime" ones at 4:30 — so 4:00 is the listed time.
Duluth, MN/Superior, WI. On March 23, KBJR-DT2 (CBS) added a local newscast at 5:00 pm, shifting Jeopardy! half an hour earlier.
Mankato, MN. On December 1 of last year, Gray Television signed on KMNF-LD as a local NBC affiliate in this market (previously, it had been served by KARE out of Minneapolis). At some point between then and now, they moved first-run Jeopardy! to that station at 6:00 pm, over from sister station KEYC-DT2 (Fox).
The list also updates station identifiers in Fargo, ND and Yuma, AZ, but in both those instances, there was no change to network or airing time.
In the end, the number of time slots where Jeopardy! airs is unchanged drops by one — fifteen fourteen in terms of local time, and eighteen seventeen when expressed in Eastern time (nineteen eighteen during the eighteen-week period when Daylight Saving Time is no longer in effect). With the network moves, NBC pulls even with CBS in terms of number of stations airing Jeopardy!, with 71. (As has long been the case, both those networks significantly trail ABC so far as how many households they air the show to.)
A new executive producer and a new reality await us on September 14. But our game is itself born out of one of the dark moments in the history of game shows and of television. It has changed as needed before to update itself, and I'm confident it's capable of doing so again.
Best of health to Alex, Johnny, the whole staff, and all the contestants and hopefuls! Let's have a great Season 37!
(Edited 9/4/20 to reflect time change on WAKA mentioned in the comments.)

2020.07.03 00:01 autotldr Harley-Davidson cuts ties with dealership over racist posts

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 29%. (I'm a bot)
MILWAUKEE - Harley-Davidson said it is pulling its Facebook ads for the month of July and severing ties with a Tennessee dealership whose owner was accused of posting racist comments on social media disparaging Black Lives Matter protesters.
The post was allegedly made on the Facebook page of Abernathy's Cycles, a Union City, Tennessee, motorcycle and ATV dealership, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday.
"I'm sick of this black lives matter," read the post, which also called for Black people to go "Back to Africa and stay."
The dealership's owner, Russell Abernathy II, told Jackson, Tennessee TV station WBBJ that he did not make the posts and that his account was hacked.
"The derogatory nature of the comment in no way aligns with my personal beliefs or that of Harley-Davidson Motor Co. It personally saddens me that this post has caused such wide-reaching pain to those that have already been subject to so many social injustices," he wrote in a statement posted on the company's website.
More than 500 companies that officially kicked off an advertising boycott Wednesday intended to pressure Facebook into taking a stronger stand against hate speech.

2020.04.16 04:47 Hobgoblin24 Missing Child- Bethany Leanne Markowski

This case has recently been added to the FBI Most Wanted List. Bethany was an 11 year old girl from Jackson, Tennessee, whose parents had recently gone through a rough divorce. In an interview with Crime Watch Daily, her mother, Jonnie Jo Carter, described Bethany's father, Larry Markowski, as controlling and abusive toward herself. She said that he was a good father to Bethany at first, but as she grew, he became more controlling of her as well.
Finally, when Bethany was 11 years old, Jonnie decided to pack up Bethany and leave Larry. They traveled to Nashville to move in with Jonnie's sister, Lori. Jonnie enrolled Bethany in a new school and did not disclose their location to Larry. However, according to Jonnie, one day, Larry found out about where Bethany was enrolled in school, and he showed up to Bethany's classroom and grabbed her and tried to drag her out of the school, even shoving one of her teachers out of the way when they tried to intervene. Other teachers heard Bethany screaming in the hallway and they came out and were able to separate her and Larry. After this incident, Jonnie got a temporary restraining order against Larry, and the two were officially separated in January 2001. Despite this, Larry was still awarded unsupervised visitation of Bethany.
On March 2nd, 2001, Bethany was scheduled for her weekend visitation with her father, and because Jonnie had a restraining order against Larry, she had her sister drop Bethany off at Waverly, TN, which was the halfway point between Nashville and Gleason, where her father resided. Her father picked her up at Waverly and drove her to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he claims they were visiting with a friend, who goes by the name Harold. Harold is an interesting character in this case. We'll talk more about him soon.
Larry claims that he and Bethany left Little Rock around 10pm on March 3rd and arrived in Gleeson on the 4th, where they stopped at the Old Hickory Mall and took a rest in the parking lot around 3:30pm. There are discrepancies among various sources regarding what time they arrived back home from Little Rock. Jonnie claims that she spoke on the phone with Bethany on the morning of the 4th around 9:30am, affirming that her aunt would pick Bethany up at 5:00, and that was the last time she ever spoke to her daughter. Larry claims that Bethany wanted to go in the mall to shop at Claire's, and he let her go in the mall by herself while he slept in the car. About half an hour later, he woke up and went in the mall to try and find Bethany, but he couldn't find her anywhere. He alerted mall security around 5:15 that Bethany was missing, and they checked the cameras that they had inside the mall, but they could not see Bethany, and no one in the mall claims to have seen her. There is no evidence that Bethany ever entered the Old Hickory Mall that day. The Jackson police became involved around 6pm.
Several witnesses have told police that they saw Bethany in the company of an unidentified woman. She is described as being a Caucasian woman in her 40's, about 5'5 and 185 pounds, with blonde hair that was frizzy and damaged. She has brown eyes with dark circles under them, and overall she appeared to be unkempt, and her shoes were torn and tied incorrectly. She may have been suffering from a hangover.
In April 2001, it is alleged that this woman tried to enroll Bethany in a school in southeastern Tennessee. When the school told the woman that they would need Bethany's school records, she told them that she was Bethany's aunt, and she would have to talk to Bethany's dad because he had that information. She and Bethany then left the school and never returned. Later, witnesses claimed that they saw Bethany with a woman matching the description of the first woman at a café in northern Tennessee. The pair showed up at the café every day for 3 days. According to Jonnie, this woman kept trying to use the payphone. "Evidently, she didn’t get in touch with who she needed to because on the third day she was even more upset," Jonnie told a reporter for WBBJ Eyewitness News. Later, this woman and Bethany were seen getting into a cab, but it is unknown where they went. There were also witnesses who saw this woman and Bethany boarding a Greyhound bus headed for Moline, Illinois, but the two never arrived at the bus stop in that town.
A police sketch has been made of this woman. Some people speculate that she looks like Jonnie, and Larry thinks she looks like Jonnie's mother. However, Jonnie thinks she looks like a distant sister-in-law on Larry's side of the family. No one has been able to identify this woman to this day.
Now, let's get back to Harold, Larry's friend that he and Bethany were visiting in Little Rock. He spoke with a man named Brandon Barnett, who runs a podcast called Searching for Ghosts: Where is Bethany Markowski?, and told him some interesting information about Larry. According to Brandon, Harold drove Larry up to Nashville on the day that Larry tried to drag Bethany out of school. Then about a month later, when they were visiting him at his house in Little Rock, Larry made some statements that implied that he was going to flee to Mexico with Bethany. This is talked about in part 2 of the Crime Watch Daily interview. I’ve provided links to everything below.
This case is very strange, and there is a lot of evidence that doesn’t seem to add up. What do you guys think?
Thank you to u/lisagreenhouse for her post about Bethany that gave me a lot of good information and links regarding this case. I’ve linked her post below.
