2023.05.30 16:01 Edition-X Seeking advice dealing with Wow-Estates (a property company providing car rental) in Alicante - Potential exploitation of my elderly father-in-law
Hello
Alicante community,
I'm hoping to gain some advice and insights regarding an unsettling situation with Wow-Estates, a property company based here in Alicante that, interestingly, also provides a car rental service. I say interestingly because there is no mention of car rentals on their website, which is concerning in itself.
The situation revolves around my elderly father-in-law who rented a van from this company. Unfortunately, during the rental period, he scraped the roof of the van in a parking garage. He promptly reported the incident to Wow-Estates, and as expected, his 350 euro deposit was withheld as the excess on the insurance – a condition he was aware of and accepted.
However, matters have become complicated as the company is now attempting to charge him an additional 700€. According to the rental agreement, if the repair costs exceed the deposit, the insurance company is supposed to cover it, unless they provide a justified reason for refusing to do so.
Given this, we requested the correspondence with the insurance company to understand why they are not covering the full cost and to verify the additional charges being levied against my father-in-law. Unfortunately, Wow-Estates has refused to share this information and has escalated matters by threatening legal action if the additional amount isn't paid.
This has raised concerns for us. We simply want to understand the charges and ensure that all procedures have been followed correctly. The refusal to provide the insurance correspondence, especially when it escalated into threats of legal action, makes us feel suspicious.
Another unsettling aspect is the legitimacy of Wow-Estates as a car rental provider. With no mention of car rentals on their website, it's unclear how to verify their credentials in this business.
I'm reaching out to this community for guidance. Can anyone suggest how to verify the legitimacy of Wow-Estates as a car rental provider? What are our options if they continue to refuse to provide the requested information?
Your advice and any information that could assist us in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can provide.

2023.05.30 16:00 CORunner25 MIL Vaccine Resistance
My wife and I are expecting our first this August (Yay!), and we've run into an issue with one of her parents. Our immediate families live 2,800 miles away so this is not an every day issue, but we're expecting them all to want to come out for extended stays when their first grandchild is born. My wife's mother falls into the anti-vax camp, and is refusing to get any of the vaccines and boosters our pediatrician recommends for someone who will regularly be around the baby. Her argument is that I won't be able to enforce vaccines on my friends. She is correct about that, but I don't live with my friends. I can pick and choose the environment my boy will be exposed while he's building his immune system. If she is staying with me, they're sharing germs and the risk of him getting sick is increased.
I have zero qualms with telling my MIL that if she doesn't get it, she can't visit. Period. It's my baby, you play by my rules. BUT, I'm trying to let my wife lead the way here since it's her mom and I don't have the best relationship with my MIL so I know I'm showing some bias. At an absolute minimum I want everyone who stays with us to get a Tdap. Is that really so much to ask? If my kid ended up in the hospital with a preventable respiratory virus because of someone's pseudo-medical beliefs I would not be able to forgive them.
Does anyone have a similar experience with their family? How did you handle it?

trump’s legal team is an epic disaster
The
attorney-client relationship is historically one of the most sacred, cloaked with the (usually) impenetrable privilege of complete confidentiality and one that is imbued with explicit and implicit trust. Clients look to their lawyers for guidance, a keen knowledge of the law, and the ability to provide favorable
public-facing content for those moments and cases where the client cannot interface with the media and the public. There are professional standards and each state has rules of conduct.
But when it comes to the many
cases of former President Donald Trump, those sacred bonds are sometimes bent to the point of breaking. Who’s to blame? Depends on who you ask, I suspect. But regardless of where the fault may lie, this kind of havoc does not bode well for Trump’s legal future. When faced with so many legal challenges, a surgically orchestrated strategy is necessary. Sometimes, even just the outward image of prepared and organized calm is the goal. But with Trump, you have the perfect storm of infighting lawyers jostling for pole position and a client who is prone to embracing the microphone and never meeting a camera he didn’t love. It’s a recipe for an attorney-client disaster.
Trump presently has several pending cases and investigations, both state and federal...
More at the link at the top of this link... We are reminded once again, that no sane AND competent attorney would want to represent a lifetime grifter, aren't we? submitted by

2023.05.30 15:51 PoliticoBailey M747 - Motion to Condemn Israel's Annual 'Flag March' - Reading
Motion to Condemn Israel's Annual 'Flag March'
That this House:
(1) condemns the annual ‘Flag March’ through Palestinian neighbourhoods of Occupied East Jerusalem marked by widespread racist and islamophobic chants, including “Death to Arabs,” “We will burn your village” and “Muhammad is dead”;
(2) further condemns the frequent attacks on Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem by marchers, and attacks on journalists; noting with deep concern the endorsement and participation in the march of members of the Israeli Government as well as encouraging inflammatory remarks against Palestinians;
(3) recognises the deep historical, religious, and cultural significance of East Jerusalem to the Palestinian people, and acknowledges their right as recognised under international law;
(4) decries any form of provocation, incitement, or actions that exacerbate tensions and promote hate against the Arabs and instability in the region, and considers the conduct of Israeli ‘Flag March’ in Occupied East Jerusalem to fall under such category;
(5) recognises the failure of the Israeli Government to issue its own condemnation of these events and to take action to prevent them, and believes this failure is indicative of broader discrimination against Palestinians in government policy which Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territory have all concluded to be the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people.
The House calls on the government:
(1) to demand the Israeli Government to respect the cultural and religious sensitivities of the Palestinian people living in East Jerusalem and to cease actions which disrupt peace and harmony by issuing sanctions;
(2) to work with humanitarian organisations and utilise its diplomatic relations with its international partners through the United Nations to advocate for the discontinuation of such potentially inflammatory events and behaviour by Israelis;
(3) to reconsider its current economic relations with Israel, including the potential suspension of specific trade agreements and restrictions on arms exports until Israel complies with international law and the rights of Palestinians are duly respected’
(4) to take a stronger stance on this issue, including bringing it to the attention of the UN Security Council for potential action and resolutions;
(5) to support, both financially and politically, credible NGOs such as United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) as well as humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
This Motion was written and submitted by the Most Hon. EruditeFellow, Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and sponsored by the Rt. Hon. ARichTeaBiscuit, Shadow Secretary of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of His Majesty’s 37th Most Loyal Opposition.
Opening Speech:
Deputy Speaker,
I stand before you today feeling compelled to do so by a strong sense of moral obligation and by a moral necessity to address the level of turmoil, derision and cruelty that ensues from the annual 'Flag March' through the Palestinian neighbourhoods of Occupied East Jerusalem.
The dark and sinister undercurrent of the march is not hidden by any means. It is heralded by chants of unabashed bigotry, a symphony of hate. The very essence of these chants strikes a chilling and frightening chord of hostility, discrimination, and malice. But this dissonance of disregard does not end at the borders of words. It overflows into an onslaught of violence, a tornado of injustices, and an avalanche of fear. The bulk of this storm does not just fall on the Palestinians. As the storytellers of our shared human experience, journalists are also not exempt. To make matters worse, members of the Israeli government, both past and present, have actively supported and joined this march. Their inflammatory remarks against Palestinians add fuel to the already raging inferno of hate.
Deputy Speaker, we must recognise the historical, religious, and cultural significance of East Jerusalem to the Palestinian people, a significance that finds its roots intertwined with their very identity. We must acknowledge their right to this land, a right enshrined in international law, a right that whispers their claim to their ancestral home and we must decry, with the full force of our collective voice, any form of provocation, incitement, or actions that stir the pot of animosity, actions that fan the flames of hate, actions that push the precarious balance of this volatile region towards chaos.
The Israeli Government's failure to condemn these events but engage in dangerous rhetoric inciting violence is an international travesty of our rules-based order. Their failure to prevent these inciteful events is not merely a failure of governance. It represents a failing of justice, empathy, and compassion. It is a symptom of a larger discrimination against Palestinians, which Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory have all classified as the crime of Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians.
I now urge the government to cease hiding behind the darkness of tyranny and injustice and to stand boldly as a guiding light of justice and humanity. The British Government must exert pressure on the Israeli Government to stop acting in ways that disturb peace and to respect the cultural and religious sensibilities of the Palestinians residing in East Jerusalem. In the face of corruption, we must use sanctions as a vehicle of peace and justice.
Britain must collaborate with humanitarian organisations and leverage its diplomatic relations with its international partners through the United Nations, to advocate for the discontinuation of such potentially inflammatory events and behaviour by Israelis in the interest of safeguarding human life.
We must reconsider our current economic relations with Israel, to consider the suspension of specific trade agreements, to contemplate restrictions on arms exports until Israel complies with international law and the rights of Palestinians are duly respected. Remaining idle on the matter risks Britain’s position on the international stage – we risk being recognised as supporters of the suffering being enacted against Palestinians.
This Government must take a stronger stance on this issue. We simply cannot stand idle while the echoes of our words dissipate into the ether of inaction. As the Palestinian U.N. envoy Riyad Mansour put it, "Every action we take now matters. Every word we utter matters. Every decision we delay matters".
Deputy Speaker, most states consider Israel's settlements on land it won in a war with the Arab nations in 1967 to be illegal. Israel rejects that and cites security reasons as well as referencing its biblical connections to the West Bank. But we must keep in mind that it is up to us to prevent historical accounts from serving as the chains that tie us to a future of strife and division.
We must extend our support, both financially and politically, to credible NGOs and humanitarian efforts working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. To stand by them in their hour of need is not merely an act of charity, but an act of justice, an act of humanity, an act of hope.
I implore you to heed the call of justice, to listen to the cry of humanity, to feel the pulse of the world. Let us not be the bystanders in the theatre of history. Let us be the actors who shape it. Let us be the voice that calls out against injustice, the hand that reaches out in aid, the heart that feels the pain of our fellow human beings. And let us, in our actions today, lay the foundation for a future of peace, justice and hope.

2023.05.30 15:49 JessLegs Needing some help with my boyfriend's sister
My boyfriend (26m) and I (24f) took in his sister (19f) when she turned 16. He's been out of contact with his parents for a few years due to abuse inflicted on both of them growing up. She was more comfortable and happier with us, so she asked to stay with us. No one had any objections, they never tried to get her back, and they even fudged court documents saying she was emancipated when she wasn't. They made it very clear they were done. This has been a much healthier environment for her overall, and I KNOW she needed this for her mental and phsyical health, but I feel often like we royally fucked up as guardians.
We immediately got her in with a therapist and psychiatrist, got her a primary doc since she hadn't seen a doctor since she was a baby, got her on birth control, and established just generally decent healthcare for her. It feels like that's where our good guardianship points ended.
Not long after she moved in, my boyfriend got depressed, and most of the guardianship was delegated to me. I have pretty bad ADHD and didn't learn how to really cope with the worst of it until this year. Boyfriend and sister also have ADHD, so setting schedules and habits has been hell. I spent so much time on research and asking for advice, but when it comes to actually doing the parenting, I don't feel like I'm doing anything right. I don't even feel like I have the authority to impose rules and restrictions. I'm only, like, 13. I'm afraid she would have been happier with literally anyone else. She now spends most days at her boyfriend's parents' house, and that feels a lot like confirmation that I've given her an unhappy home. When I was 19, I also stayed at my boyfriend's house almost 24/7, so I know it's likely not even about me, but combined with everything else, it feels like maybe they're just better parents than I am. I mean, obviously, they raised 3 kids into almost adulthood, and I've only been at this a couple years. I'm just admittedly jealous that she prefers to be at their house.
Her relationship with my boyfriend has been strained since she moved in too, and I cannot get the two of them to communicate what's wrong. Literally, for 2 years, neither of them will budge on this. No amount of family meetings, gentle pressure, being the middle man, whatever, has helped get these 2 to communicate, and I feel like we really messed up not doing, like, weekly family meetings or something when she moved in. We didn't succeed at setting traditions and weekly things like recommended when she was younger, we didn't set good boundaries in some areas, we still don't have her driving because -insert plethora of excuses here-, we didn't do a good job setting expectations. We just failed at everything, it feels like. Mostly, I failed at everything because most of it all fell on me.
I have a million excuses for why I fell short in all these places, but at the end of the day, I think it's because I'm just selfish and lazy and couldn't put that aside for her sake. I feel like we did okay at first, but as she got older, it got harder and harder to impose rules and boundaries, and I got more and more burnt out. I was JUST a teenager. When this all started, I was 21. Only 2 years older than she is now. I thought between my teenager knowledge, my mom's regular advice, my therapist, and tons of books and articles, we'd at least do an okay job and grow up together, but it feels like all we did was give her a roof over her head and some food and call it a day. She deserved a lot more from us.
I suppose after typing all this out, she still came out happier and healthier than she would have, and I know she loves us and is comfortable coming to us when she needs something, especially me. I just want to do better for her, and I'm scared it's too late now that she's 19 and has other parental figures that leave me in the dust. I also just don't know if I have the ability to do better. I don't know how to get her to follow a schedule, do chores, take care of her pet, etc. A lot of the things I need to impose on her, I'm just now learning how to do myself.
Literally, any advice is so very welcome and appreciated. I am still so unprepared to be her guardian, and I really want to do better and give her a happy home. Thank you for the space to vent.

2023.05.30 15:49 PoliticoBailey B1544 - Off Payroll Working (Anti-Avoidance) Bill - 2nd Reading
Off Payroll Working (Anti-Avoidance) Bill
An Act to make provision for further anti-avoidance measures in relation to Off Payroll Working and the establishment of employee rights where income is deemed employment income.
BE IT ENACTED by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
Section 1: Definitions
(1) “Off Payroll Working legislation” refers to successive previous laws and regulations related to the determination on whether a worker should be treated as an employee or self-employed for tax purposes when paid through an intermediary.
(2) “IR35 legislation” refers to the successive previous laws and regulations on off payroll working above, directed at small privately owned businesses.
(3) “Client” refers to any corporate entity which pays for services provided by an intermediary.
(4) “Intermediary” refers to any corporate entity established to provide the services of individuals to a client.
(5) “Individual” refers to the person providing services to a client while remunerated through an intermediary
(6) “Deemed employment income” is any income liable for income tax and national insurance under the terms set out in Section 5.
Section 2: Combination of Off Payroll Working and IR35 rules
(1) From the enactment of this Bill, interpretation of all IR35 legislation will be considered the same as Off Payroll Working legislation, and the treatment between small private businesses and other businesses will be the same.
(2) In all cases, the client will now be responsible for determining the employment status of the worker.
Section 3: Application of Off Payroll Working Rules
(1) Off Payroll Working Rules will be considered when:
a. An individual has more than 5% ownership of an intermediary entity, and/or;
b. Services given to a client by an intermediary equate to more than 5% of the individual’s total taxable earnings.
Section 4: Assessment of Employee or Self-employed for tax purposes
(1) In each financial year, the client must make an assessment on whether an individual should be taxed as an employee or self-employed.
(2) If at least 5 of the following conditions apply, the individual shall be classified as an employee for tax purposes and “deemed employment income” should be calculated and taxed for Income Tax and National Insurance by both the client (in the first instance) and by the individual (true up/down in their annual self assessment):
a. Degree of control - in the course of the services, is the client mostly responsible for establishing the hours of the service or the time of day or date that the work should be delivered?
b. Mutuality of obligations - is the client obliged under the terms of the contract to give regular work and pay for it, and is the individual responsible for delivering that work?
c. Correction of work - is the client responsible, ahead of the intermediary or individual, either contractually or implicitly, for the quality of the services delivered by the individual?
d. Financial risk - are the financial risks related to the contract primarily with the client instead of the intermediary/individual?
e. Provision of own equipment - is the majority of the equipment used (buildings, plant and machinery, technology, sundries etc.) in the service provided by the client?
f. Disciplinary - is the individual contractually obliged to the same or greater behaviour and disciplinary terms as an employee of the client, or where not applicable, an employee of an equivalent business?
g. Exclusivity - does the contract result in substantial terms of exclusivity for a period greater than 3 months?
h. Inclusion in business - is the individual practically included in the client business in the context of internal meetings and communications?
i. Alternative worker - can an alternative individual replace the individual without substantial disruption or public statement?
j. Public opinion test - would a reasonable member of the public expect that the individual is an employee of the client?
(3) HMRC will challenge the judgements made for each consideration above if they appear to be unreasonable in a tax tribunal.
Section 5: Provision of employment benefits for deemed employment income earners
(1) Where an assessment is made that an individuals’ earnings are deemed employment income, the individual retains the right to statutory employment benefits and statutory pension terms as other employees.
Section 6: Repeals
(1) The Off Payroll Working (IR35 clarification) Act 2018 is hereby repealed.
Section 7: Commencement, Short Title and Extent
(1) This Act will come into force on the 6 April 2024
(2) This Act will extend to the entirety of the United Kingdom.
(3) This Act shall be cited as the Off Payroll Working (Anti-avoidance) Act 2023
This Bill was submitted by His Grace Sir Rea-wakey KCT KT KD KCMG KBE MVO FRS, Duke of Dorset, Secretary of State for the Home Department, on behalf of His Majesty’s 33rd Government.
Opening Speech:
Deputy Speaker,
I now present the final piece of anti-avoidance legislation to the House. Many years ago, alongside my good friend bnzss, I co-wrote a piece of legislation designed to tackle the known tax avoidance loophole through off-payroll working. While the legislation has been somewhat useful at tackling the loophole, recent cases such as those of Gary Lineker and Lorraine Kelly have proven that the legislation simply does not go far enough. Therefore I decided to rip it up and start again.
This legislation goes much further than the previous Bill - firstly combining both the IR35 rules for small businesses and the off-payroll working rules that currently apply to larger businesses, ensuring consistency between both sets of rules. Secondly, the Bill establishes a clearer set of criteria and a passable threshold in which earnings made through a company registered under the Companies Act 2006 or it’s predecessor or successor acts or a limited partnership should be recognised as employment income, thereby incurring income tax and National Insurance. Finally, this Bill provides further clarity as to the status of an individual when their income is deemed to be employment income, and extends the rights of employees to these workers including but not limited to the provision of statutory employment benefits and rights under the Employment Rights Act 1996 and statutory pension regulations.
The Government will relentlessly pursue those who wish to use technicalities in our regulations to avoid paying higher rates of tax and companies that wish to avoid conferring statutory benefits to those who are, for all intents and purposes, employees.
In combination with the other two pieces of anti-avoidance legislation I will be/have submitted to the House, these measures are collectively expected to raise £3.4 billion. This proposed revenue generation and these Bills were raised at Her Majesty’s Budget Committee and unopposed. My thanks go to my friend the Right Honourable Phonexia2 for their assistance in costing.
I urge the House to rally behind this Bill.
(M: These costings are calculated as 40% of the tax gap for “Evasion” and “Non-payment”, given the difficulty of calculating the actual revenue generated from these measures).
This reading will end on Friday 2nd May at 10pm BST.

2023.05.30 15:49 Cat_Queen262 Looking for dystopian recommendations or ideas!
Not sure if right subreddit but I’m looking for book recommendations/book assets people like so I decided to try here! So I’m creating a dystopian rp/dnd campaign, what are your favorite aspects from dystopian books/any book recommendations? (I got about a month to read/create so preferably shorter books) For a bit of context it’s a fantasy dystopian world centered around money and happiness with many laws/requirements- such as: - You are legally required to have a job by 18 (or said races equivalent) yet jobs are limited so getting one is a very difficult task that often ends in violence between two or more people. - The higher ranks, such as the king and his family, know that perfection isn’t possible but they expect near perfection from everyone in this world. - Negative emotions are not to be shared. They are seen as weak and imperfect, as I mentioned the king knows perfection isn’t possible so if there is a major event in one’s life he understands when the feeling of sadness takes over. - Very limited to no freedom of speech. In this world things are very limited as to what you can see, read, watch, etc. Books or anything of the sorts must be approved by the higher ups and if they do not see it fit to be in the public eye they will not let it. Any ill speak of them will result in punishment to either you or your family.
Many things are inspired by the giver so I’m looking for other books to try out! I’m also seeking advice for things you like in these types of novels! Thank you in advance :D

2023.05.30 15:45 clarahenleys My 37M husband says he loves and cares for me but I 27F don’t believe him.
Please give me advice 27F making a decision about my relationship with 37M I grew up in a very conservative and strict home and got married through an arrangement at age 23. I had only known my husband for 5 months before the wedding and got pregnant and had a baby 9 months after. It’s been nearly 4 years of marriage but I’m unhappy I used to blame my in-laws for our differences because they have a big negative influence on him and after a couple months of marriage they grew to dislike me because I didn’t want to be the obedient daughter in law and live with them anymore. We have lived alone for about 2 years however things haven’t been that much better. Our issues consist of him wanting to spend more time with his family than with our daughter and I. My husband also doesn’t give me much of his time, attention or make any effort to plan things unless i suggest them. I feel as if I’m just the classic housewife but nothing more I’ve communicated my wants and needs multiple times and he tells me he will try to change and I’ve seen changes but it never lasts. He changes for a period of time then goes back to how he was, we constantly argue and we are generally not happy with each other even on special occasions such as birthdays. I’m currently at my family’s home and I’ve said I’m tired of being disappointed every time by him and want a divorce. However to be completely honest I’m scared, I know that I’m not happy with him but I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to regret it. No one is perfect and I wouldn’t know what deal breakers are as I’ve only been in a relationship with him. I was considering of living together for my daughters sake ( because even if she sees him in the day when I put her to sleep at night and it’s just her and I, she cries for him and it breaks my heart). Im so confused because his a good person provides for our family and a good dad however not a good husband because I feel he doesn’t love me or care for me even though he says that’s not true. I have another concern he doesn’t know how to express him self or communicate his feelings when I question him about it he’s not sure why. I thought about the possibility of him actually have difficulties with understanding emotions (I don’t know if this is important but he has a family member that has low level of autism) because when we argue he says it’s not an argument and in general he doesn’t communicate much and doesn’t know how to start a conversation it will take maybe 20 minutes or I have to start it. He’s socially awkward and doesn’t know how to deal with certain situations and even says hurtful things then says I didn’t mean them or I don’t know why I said that after I explain why I’m hurt. I’ve suggested marriage counselling before however he wasn’t too keen on going. He told me that he will change and won’t make me feel neglected and hurt again but he’s told me that so many times before that I just don’t believe him. What do people do in these situations? Any advice would be appreciated Thank you.

2023.05.30 15:44 autotldr Turkey wants action from NATO hopeful Sweden over flag incident
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 53%. (I'm a bot)
ANKARA, May 30 - Turkey called on NATO hopeful Sweden on Tuesday to prosecute those responsible for projecting the flag of an outlawed group onto the parliament building in Stockholm, on the day of Turkish elections that extended President Tayyip Erdogan's rule.
The warning could raise the stakes ahead of a mid-July NATO summit at which some alliance members are urging Turkey to back Sweden's membership bid, after a year of delays over concerns that Stockholm must do more to take on militant groups.
The incident took place after Erdogan won a mandate in runoff elections to carry on his muscular foreign policy in which Turkey objected to both Sweden's and Finland's bids to join NATO last year in the face of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Altun said he hoped Sweden would properly enforce a new anti-terror law taking effect on 1 June, and prevent PKK members from demonstrating at a protest against Sweden's NATO membership called by the solidarity committee for June 4.
Ahmet Berat Conkar, former chair of parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and head of Turkey's delegation at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, said that Turkey expects more engagement from Sweden on how their terrorism laws are being implemented.
"These factors will be important in our parliament's decision on Swedish membership. But on a positive note, as you see in Finland's case, Turkey is open to NATO enlargement and we will apply the same standard to Sweden as well," he said in an interview.

2023.05.30 15:44 i-split-infinitives Will the documentary actually be hard to watch for those of us who already know the IBLP is abusive?
I keep seeing articles about how disturbing the IBLP documentary is going to be, and I can't decide whether they mean disturbing in the way we were all low-key shocked (if not surprised) with each new revelation about this family and their cult, or if they mean disturbing because there's going to be graphic or upsetting content.
This article says the second episode details the physical, mental, and sexual abuse the victims of IBLP suffered and also references the Pearls' book To Train Up a Child. Amazon rated the documentary as age 16+ in the United States, which is roughly the equivalent of TV-MA for mainstream channels.
I was originally planning to watch it as soon as it came out, but now I'm starting to wonder if those of us who have a lower tolerance level should wait until you brave snarkers who have stronger stomachs have vetted it, so to speak. I have issues with invasive thoughts and I don't really watch a lot of mature content, especially as it relates to sexual abuse. I find even shows like Law & Order: SVU hard to watch (I'm a very visual person, so it's just a whole other level for me, watching someone talk about what happened to them versus reading vague references to things that happened to other people told from the perspective of a third party). I have a general idea of what Josh was watching, for example, but I would never have been able to read the trial transcripts, let alone attend the trial.

2023.05.30 15:43 Small_Ad_2110 [QCrit] "Our Greater Good" -Dystopian Science-Fiction - (65k)
Humans have tried to plan societies for thousands of years. Whether it be the Caste system, or Plato’s Republic, we have seen many fail or change. At 65,000 words, “Our Greater Good” is a dystopian science fiction thriller that seeks to answer the question: What would happen if an Artificial Intelligence were given the wheel? The novel appeals to fans of “The Warehouse” by Rob Hart, and “The Circle” by Dave Eggers.
Patrick Franklin isn’t so sure he believes in the Greater Good. The city of Lincoln, ruled by the God of the same name demands order, efficiency, and perfection all in the name of the collective. Patrick’s persistent curiosity begins to alienate him from his peers, resulting in him failing his Placement, an important ritual that would have determined how he would contribute to this world. Instead, he is sent to live with the Beautiful, a community of castaways pitied by all.
In his new home, he finds the Beautiful live chaotic lives of excess, gluttony, and violence, where they want for nothing – a sharp contrast to the austere existence he was raised with; however, despite his disgust, Patrick feels accepted for the first time in his young life.
This new peace is disrupted as a resistance movement which seeks to overthrow Lincoln contacts Patrick for his help, revealing to him that the world he was raised with only exists to provide for every desire of the Beautiful, that these are Lincoln’s true people, and the years of his youth were spent in ignorant servitude.
Patrick must decide whether to free his family, and the world which has spurned him, or forget his past and slip into the comfortable world of desire. His curiosity will push him to discover the truth of the old world, and uncover what Lincoln really is, and how the world veered off course in its pursuit of progress.

2023.05.30 15:42 Actual_Counter_8448 AITA for not letting MIL have everything under control?
My husband and I have been together for 7 years and got married in 2022. I am grateful that I could marry the love of my life,but with the wedding almost everything went wrong.(Husband and I were paying for every fee, the wedding was not a gift from the parents) I wanted to wear white vans to the wedding because I never been a girly girl,so she made fun of me,”women who are pairing gowns with sneakers are just making themselves looking dumb”. Then she got mad and confronted us for not inviting this and that person but why inviting that another one. I wanted to bake the desserts,but she went ahead and ordered desserts from here and there,the same happened with the menu,she tried to change it because it wasnt to her liking. In my country we don’t wear white and red to other couples wedding due to traditions, because the bride changes from white into a red gown at midnight. MIL of course wanted to wear a red long lace gown to our wedding because i quote “red is a passionate color and it brings everybodys attention” We tried to talk to her, that red might not be the best idea, but she got mad at us again and said she never heard about this tradition and we are being mean to her. I dont have a father so we figured I could sit with my husband during the festivities, but she got mad again, and demanded to sit at our table too, because she is not just a regular guest, if she can’t sit at the “head table”, then she won’t attend the wedding at all. At this point I was so sad and cried so much because I felt like it was not even our own wedding, I wanted to call off the whole wedding but my husband somehow managed to talk to her so she choose a long royal blue gown instead of the red! A year and a half passed, thought i was overreacting, maybe she was just trying to help on her own way. Last week she called my husband on the phone and had a question for me too, so he put her on the speakers and then she asked if her other daughter in law could wear my red wedding gown for a wedding as a guest (we are also invited to this wedding) i was completely lost for words, my husband replied noway instead of me, and guess what, she got mad again.
In the meantime, I got pregnant with our first baby, actually we have 2 days left, we are so excited! Husband and I thought it might be a good idea to spend a week or so with the baby, just the three of us to get used to the feeling of being a real family. MIL said she wants to come and visit immediately after the baby borns. Well i do not want that..neither my husband. MIL cried, and confronted my husband because she thinks it is my idea only and I don’t want her to see her grandson and it is cruel towards her. Now i feel mad at her for trying to arrange not just the wedding but our whole lives and making not just me but her own son sad and uncomfortable too. AITA? Or should I just discuss it with my husband to let her stay for the first few days?

2023.05.30 15:41 Fun-Possible7676 What kind of relationship should I have going forward with the mother of my child?
This week 5/31/23 the paperwork will finally be done and the divorce will be over. This milestone of course brings up a lot of questions going forward. What kind of relationship should I have going forward with the mother of my child? We have shared 50/50 custody. Obviously she is no longer my wife but my son (20 months) still loves her. Would a relationship similar to a brother in law or sister in law be appropriate? My siblings love their spouses. My thought is I love my siblings but technically their spouses are just random strangers to me. That being said I spend time with them, celebrate holidays with them, invite them to parties/game night, send them memes, and treat them like family. Is "Wife in law" an appropriate relationship post divorce? I know if my stbxw had it her way it would probably be zero contact like she did to her dad already.

2023.05.30 15:41 Interesting-Dot4986 How Effective Internal Financial Controls Boost Business Stability and Growth
In today's competitive business landscape, maintaining financial stability and driving growth is paramount. To achieve these objectives, businesses need to implement effective
internal financial controls. These controls serve as a set of systematic procedures and policies that ensure the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of financial information within an organization. By streamlining finances through robust internal financial controls, businesses can experience enhanced stability and pave the way for sustainable growth. This article delves into the key benefits and strategies for implementing internal financial controls to drive business success.
- Enhancing Financial Accuracy: One of the primary advantages of implementing internal financial controls is the improved accuracy of financial reporting. By setting up standardized processes and checks, businesses can minimize errors, discrepancies, and fraudulent activities. Internal controls ensure that financial transactions are recorded correctly, financial statements are prepared accurately, and internal and external audits are conducted effectively. This accuracy not only enhances the credibility of financial information but also helps businesses make informed decisions based on reliable data.
- Mitigating Risks and Fraud: Internal financial controls act as a safeguard against potential risks and fraudulent activities within an organization. By implementing the segregation of duties, businesses can distribute responsibilities among employees, preventing any single individual from having complete control over financial transactions. Regular monitoring and reconciliations of financial records help identify any discrepancies or irregularities promptly. Moreover, internal controls establish strict approval processes for financial transactions, reducing the likelihood of unauthorized activities and minimizing the risk of fraud.
- Improving Operational Efficiency: Efficient internal financial controls contribute to streamlined operations within a business. By clearly defining roles and responsibilities, organizations can ensure that tasks related to financial management are appropriately assigned. This avoids duplication of efforts, reduces the chances of errors, and enhances overall efficiency. Automated financial control systems can also be implemented to expedite processes such as invoicing, payment approvals, and financial reporting. By eliminating manual intervention and optimizing workflows, businesses can achieve greater operational efficiency and save valuable time and resources.
- Facilitating Compliance and Regulatory Requirements: In today's complex business environment, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements is crucial. Internal financial controls help businesses adhere to these regulations and maintain compliance with industry-specific standards. By implementing controls that monitor and report on financial activities, businesses can ensure adherence to accounting principles, tax regulations, and other applicable laws. This compliance not only minimizes the risk of penalties and legal consequences but also enhances the organization's reputation and credibility in the market.
- Enabling Informed Decision-Making: Accurate and reliable financial information is vital for making sound business decisions. Effective internal financial controls provide businesses with a clear picture of their financial position, performance, and cash flows. This information empowers decision-makers to evaluate the financial viability of investments, assess profitability, and identify areas of improvement. By relying on accurate financial data, businesses can make informed decisions that drive growth and optimize resource allocation.
Conclusion: Implementing internal financial controls is a strategic move that can significantly contribute to the stability and growth of a business. By enhancing financial accuracy, mitigating risks, improving operational efficiency, facilitating compliance, and enabling informed decision-making, businesses can lay a strong foundation for success. It is essential for organizations to prioritize the establishment of robust internal financial controls to ensure financial transparency, protect assets, and foster long-term growth in today's dynamic business environment.

What’s your two cents on the immigration law as a field of practice with regards to opportunities, competitiveness and pay in the near future given the upcoming changes to the migration system which have been recently announced by the Government; essentially providing for a significant increase in the number of student/skilled/family migrants in the next few years.

2023.05.30 15:28 Swimming8899 Need help with career advice
I am seeking career advice. I am sorry if this is not the right place. I am not a nurse, but a I work in a role that was traditionally held by nurses. It is called quality improvement coordinator. Anyway, for this role, there are opportunities for travel nurses. The field is very specialized.
Anyway, I have 80k student loans from my master’s at a private university. I regretted going there. Here is my work history:
- Worked one year in Arizona and was falsely arrested by the racist police. I felt so scared and had to leave the state despite liking my job,
- Moved to LA and loved the area, but I worked with a narcissist. I was the longest lasting employee because I stayed there for one year. 3 other people lasted less than 3 months.
- Currently in a traveling job in the middle of nowhere. This traveling job is only 3 months but pays very well. I bring home 12k a month after tax (36k after I finish my contract). I will save about 30k after my contract if I am paying all my bills.
I have the opportunity to extend my contract for 6 more months. This means that I will bring home 90k after paying my bills and staying for 6 months.
I was offered a job very close to home that will bring me $6,600 per month after tax. This is a permanent position and very close to my family.
Should I choose to stay at my contract? With 90k, I easily pay off my debt within a year. This contract is in the middle of no where and very boring. To be honest, because I am not a nurse, it will be very hard for me to find another contract or a position like this that is close to home. I am scared of my future, but I think that having my debt off my shoulders will be a big relief.
