Childe/Xiao	This one can't help but have some fighting in it. Maybe hurt/comfort?
Albedo/Kaveh	When Kaveh gets commissioned to do some illustration work for Yae Publishing, the editor has 01 meeting with him before he decides to put him in contact with Calx, so that maybe he can give that prima donna some "pointers." Kaveh is not happy with that, but he can't help being fascinated with the mysterious artist and his logical without being unemotional tone.
Baizhu/Xiao	I think hurt/comfort goes well here. Unrequited love is perfectly fine.
Ayato/Kazuha	Not enough fics have been written about the fact that these two know each other for a long time, since Kazuha's family was subordinate to Ayato's. Then they grew up and now there's a whole gulf in their statuses. Sweet sweet angst.
Diluc/Heizou	I'm putting this here because there are 0 fics for this pairing. Is it a little cracky? You betcha. But if you do write something, I'll make you a little treat (it's fanart. I'll drawn a scene.)

I'll start: When it comes to characters that I expected to hate. Nahida comes to mind. Yoimiya is almost close too. The same can be said with Kujou Sara although at best I just dont care about her.
Let's start with Nahida, I was expecting to hate hate hate this character after the shitfest that is Patch 2.1. of Genshin. The components are there: Like Hoyoverse's incompetent EN Dub translation for me thinking that there will be another male Archon until you realize we won't have one and that fucking gnosis scene. I am still hurt bad with that gnosis scene in Inazuma where Yae gave it to Scaramouche and then didn't even try to answer our questions. I was all prepared to hate her considering her exchange with Dottore and all and it will end in nothing but pyrrhic victory considering Traveler and Paimon were so gung-ho about the gnosis. Oh yeah, there's also the fact that she also displaced Yaoyao as the first Dendro child character as I feel Yaoyao should have been released earlier and how she probably overshadows Klee rn.
But... No matter what I do, its hard to hate on this little radish. I guess this is due to the fact that unlike Yae or any other previous Archons, Nahida is the only one that tries to help the Traveler especially attempting to find the lost sibling. Not only that, but there are a lot of good things that made me like her more and more like her trailer music, her awesome ability to read minds of other NPC, a certain fanart with Alhaitham and her funny moments such as the Dook-Dook stuff and when she disguises as Katheryne too. Her burst is awesome as well. So yeah, even if I want to hate this little radish, its just backfiring and I ended up loving her even more ever since.
As for Yoimiya, I was expecting to hate her because of the abysmal JP VA predictions that I had and the fact that she was released in Amber's birthday back in the day. But in the end, I grew to like Yoimiya and even considered her one of the best girls from Inazuma. Surprisingly, her JP VA is the biggest reason why I love Yoimiya so much and getting biased towards her in the end. I really wish she was the one who voiced Bakarina instead of Fischl because her voice just match so well with Bakarina. It helps that her JP VA also sympathize towards a certain Harbinger that I loved which earns her an extra plus in my books. Not only that, there are some good things that I can say from Yoimiya like her story quest which is one of the best quests in Genshin for me and one of the most underrated ones, her great interactions with children (especially Klee), her attempt at impersonating Paimon which made her endearing, her awesome trailer music, the "TAMAYA!" line and her telling the Traveler and Paimon to not judge Childe much even though she knew he's a Fatui Harbingers. This made me love Yoimiya more and she's on my top 3 or 5 list in my Genshin favorite character spot and never came back.
For Sara... Yeah, this is one of the characters that I expected to hate but in the end, I just don't care about her. Like, the elements that made me want to hate her are there back in the day like her seemingly attempting to overtake Bennett, being a hardcore Raiden simp (And keep in mind this is back when I used to like Raiden until the dross that is 2.1.) and the choice of her VA (I am sorry, I had a personal vendetta against Asami Seto which I wont get into). The components to hate her are there. But in the end, I ended up not hating her as I just don't care about her that much. Patch 2.1. is the reason why its hard for me to hate on Sara because I hate her master even more to be quite honest. And then her interactions with Itto just saved her barely.
So yeah, with that said and done, who's the character in Genshin that you expected to hate but in the end, you ended up loving them at best or just don't care at worst?
For the tl;dr of the post? I was expected to dislike Nahida and Yoimiya but ended up loving them very much. And I also expected to hate on Sara but unlike Nahida and Yoimiya, I just don't care about her.

TL;DR: My life is stressful so every little problem I have has suddenly blown up and I can’t stop “grieving” the harbinger Scaramouche that is now a thing of the past. I’m also wondering if someone kind of feels the same.
Hello. Thank you for taking your time to look at this. This post is pretty long so I understand if you don’t want to read the whole thing (and it also deals with things that many might be tired of hearing), but if you do decide to stick around until the end, just know that I appreciate it.
First off, let me start off by saying this:
I do NOT hate the “current” Scaramouche, nor the playable version of him. But I need to get some things off my chest and so this post unfortunately exists now (sorry). Also, English isn’t my first language, so I apologize if I can’t always express everything in a way that’s easy to understand.
I love this little gremlin boy. I didn’t expect to care for him so much when I first met him in game (Inazuma archon quest, because I started playing around the time that came out). And I’m absolutely delighted that we have him as a playable character! I love his attacks and playstyle, it’s genuinely so fun and he’s awesome for exploration, swooshing around in the air is a new favorite Genshin pastime of mine (I don’t care too much for meta so mine doesn’t exactly do crazy amounts of damage, but he’s definitely built enough for overworld and that’s enough for me lol). However, as much as I love him, this doesn’t change the fact that I do have some grievances about him.
Now, please let me say this first: I am currently in a very stressful period of my life and I only started feeling so strongly about the subject of this post recently (around a week ago). I’m pretty sure that’s because the immense amount of stress I feel in life has kind of “infected” other parts of my life and now, every single small problem, including ones I normally wouldn’t think too much about, have been blown way out of proportion - including my grievances about Scaramouche. So sorry if you read this and think “holy fuck. None of this makes any sense whatsoever”, you can thank my stress and anxiety-riddled mind for… most of that??? I just need to get this off my chest.
So, onto the things that I wanted to rant a bit about:
I accepted that Scaramouche would be anemo a long time ago. And really, I don’t honestly mind it all that much, but I also won’t lie and say that I wouldn’t rather have had electromouche.
Reason number 1: electro and cryo are the prettiest elements in the game and nobody can change my mind. It’s stupid, but it’s honestly a reason lol. I would have loved to see pretty electro vfx everywhere (especially if they made him NA based as well, with lots of attack speed, just like he is now!). My brain would very much go ooga at it and I’m sad that it doesn’t really do that as much as it could have, considering he’s anemo (nothing against anemo, and his attacks are still pretty as hell, but electro vfx are still superior in my opinion).
Reason number 2: too many short anemo boys and too little variety. I know this was a point that was brought up a lot when the first anemouche leak came, but it is something that bothers me. When it comes to male characters in the game, we currently have a grand total of 2 cryo, 1 (soon to be 2) dendro, 2 electro, 3 pyro, 3 hydro, 4 geo, and a whopping 5 anemo. This is counting both 4- and 5 star characters. If we only count the 5 stars, we have 0 cryo, 1 pyro, 1 electro, 1 (soon 2) dendro, 2 hydro, 3 geo and 4 anemo. For me, who pretty much only pulls for male characters, I don’t really have a lot of variety. I didn’t have a lot of variety before the first anemouche leak either, but at least I could comfort myself with the thought that “hey! At least I’ll have an electro character soon(??) that I really care about!” Aaaaand I think we can all guess how that went.
Sorry, I feel like I keep repeating what’s been said 1000 times already. But a really big part of the reason why I was disappointed that Scaramouche was anemo was because of this. I already have (and had at that point in time too) pretty much all anemo characters in the game. I had gotten Heizou and decided to build him, even though I’d already built many other anemo characters before him. And then the anemouche leak came, and I lost all motivation to build him. Another anemo catalyst (and back then he was leaked to be melee too, just like Heizou, wasn’t he)? I pretty much felt like it was pointless to keep building even more anemo characters because at that point I was becoming an anemo only account.
So yeah, I was really, really disappointed that instead of pulling for the first electro character I really liked, I would likely be pulling for my nth anemo (this isn’t to say that Scara isn’t unique just because of his element. He absolutely is - but he honestly didn’t bring that many new things to my account). Any other element (besides geo, but that’s because I don’t like it all that much) would have been better for me lol. (my ranking would probably be something like electro > cryo > dendro/hydro/pyro/ > anemo/geo tbh)
Reason number 3: it’s stupid but I got really attached to electromouche. I was dumb enough to hype myself up over potential/eventual electro kits and then it fell apart when it was revealed that he wouldn’t be electro at all. Yes, I’m aware that this is a me problem. I know anemo fits his character arc. But honestly, I can’t help but long for electro anyway.
I saw someone on Twitter (I think???) who had an idea that I really wouldn’t mind. Idk if you’ve seen My Hero Academia, but their idea was basically the “it’s your power, Todorki” scene - and I honestly wouldn’t mind some sort of “it’s your power, Todoroki!!” thing but like… scara with electro lmao. If he has electro powers I can’t help but see it as hating a part of himself if he actively ignores it?? because if he has them, it is a part of him and idk… it wouldn’t be healthy to forsake a part of yourself??? (at least that’s how I see it). I'm not gonna lie, I'm a sucker for arcs like this (like... I loved this scene in the BNHA manga) so of course this idea won me over. And yes, I know that this only works if he actually has some sort of innate electro powers, but honestly I don’t really see why he wouldn’t so you can bet that this is going to live rent free in my head forever anyway-
Reason 4: no dendro reactions for anemo :( I wanted to play with the new reactions (especially since I used to be a Xiao main so I already didn’t play a lot with reactions, but dendro-electro reactions seemed the most interesting to me)
And.... a fifth reason. Please don't hate me for this one because I already hate myself for even thinking about it :')
I love angst. I will consume the angstiest fics and fanart for my favorite characters. And Scara being electro would open up the doors to more angst, which (as you can probably tell) I eat for breakfast. Yes, his backstory is angsty enough as it is. And he deserves happiness, he deserves good things. And yes, we've had several patches now that explain his past and they're all very very angst-filled, so we've gotten a lot of Scara angst. But uuuuh.... not gonna lie, I wish we'd see more of it- (yes he's still very much Not Okay so there's obviously a lot more angst coming, but now it's turning around, you know?)
okay please don't murder me for saying all of that, I feel like a horrible person admitting it and this does NOT apply to real life people-
To be completely honest, though, I don’t mind him having anemo powers. It’s just that I (for some reason???) want him to have electro powers on top of that too, so honestly I’ll be happy if he has both lmao (obviosuly not in gameplay but in lore I guess) actually you know what? let’s give him ALL elements. and a knife. and a gun.
I’m sorry for sounding so negative and pessimistic (I do still love him, I promise), but it’s not even just the element that I’m sad about. I don’t know what to think about the fact that he’s gonna be “Wanderer” in voiced dialogue from now on. To be honest though, I don’t like hearing “Traveler” either. I think I just find it a bit... not sure what word to use here but maybe dehumanizing?? (which is stupid because I know that’s not the point???) and it lowkey breaks my immersion a little bit when the name I read is different from what the characters actually say. (and I unfortunately got attached to the name “Scaramouche” but, again, that’s my own problem)
I’m incredibly sad that we won’t see much more of his old outfit (except in flashbacks, maybe). Like, I understand why they couldn’t just… keep it lol. The Fatui “markings” (idk what to call them) would understandably not fit well with his character arc anymore. But I really liked the old one more, or at the very least, I liked the old colors more. It’s not that I don’t like his new colors - but in my opinion, the new ones feel a bit more washed out. A bit more bland?? It’s just that the contrast between the black, red, gold and purple (and some small white parts) was something I really liked in his old outfit. And I’ll miss it.
Plus, I felt even sadder when it hit me that there will be less fanart of this outfit (and harbinger electromouche) now. I love the new fanart too, but I can’t help but feel… idk… grief??? over the fact that harbinger mouche is a thing of the past, because that’s who intrigued me in the first place. And yes, I know that he’s still the same Scaramouche. His personality hasn’t changed. (and thank god for that. I really liked untraumatized Scara but at that point he’d be an entirely different character)
Okay, I think that was all about playable mouche. Sorry, there’s more… please let me say something about the interlude. (Spoilers just in case someone hasn’t finished it yet)
Sorry, but I really, really, really hate mind wipes. In all kinds of stories. Everywhere. I’ve never liked them at all, not even Rukkhadevata’s in the archon quest, and this one in the interlude is no exception.
I liked most things in the interlude. It was really interesting and we got more Irminsul info, plus Tatarasuna lore (and more Scara backstory). The animation was really good, as well as the voice acting. I really hope they won’t shoehorn Dottore in as the biggest baddest worst Bad Guy Ever in a lot more future quests, because I’m afraid that would (at least in my opinion) be a bit repetitive. Adding on to my worries, I also hope that they don't overuse the Irminul erasure (it’d overall make me feel like I can’t get excited for anything at all since it could end up being erased). But like I said, mind wipes are something I despise with passion… so it kind of soured the entire quest for me anyway.
This might sound very negative and dumb to a lot of people, but I personally feel like a lot of interactions that we could have had in the future won’t really have the same impact if they happen now? Like, Dottore vs Scara (and I really hope this will happen because otherwise I’ll just be disappointed) will literally just be that one meme of “You took everything from me/I don’t even know who you are”. It’d work for… idk a crackfic, but I feel like it’d probably be hard to write it without having it fall a bit flat. Maybe that’s just me though.
(praying that Dottore or someone else also has some kind of backup memory files just like Nahida)-
And god, this is gonna sound so weird, but…
I mourn for what we never got. I mourn for the electro element thing, I mourn for his old outfit that we’ll see even less of (both in canon and fan content), I mourn for the personal connections and interactions that we didn’t get to see (yes, some of them are still possible, but at least for me, it’ll… probably have less of an impact now that nobody knows who he is).
Sorry, I make it sound like I hate what Scara is now and that I wanted him to stay stagnant. No, I don’t. I want him to have development. I knew that we wouldn’t have 100% harbinger Scara (I started playing when it was confirmed that he’d fucked off somewhere with the gnosis). I want this little shithead gremlin to find happiness. I want him to find himself, to follow his own path, to let go of painful obsessions. I want him to meet new people, connect with them, and live his life the way he wants.
But I also can’t help but feel like this has been some kind of bittersweet goodbye to harbinger electromouche that most of us got to know first. This makes me feel really sad and I hate that I still feel a bit bitter about it.

Okay, I think that was all. Sorry for this post - I really just needed to get this off my chest. Little reminder that I didn’t feel so strongly about this until only a week ago, and that when my stress levels have gone down a bit, I’ll (hopefully) go back to feeling less bittesad about this. I’m 100% a mouche fan. I see him as a son and if he existed irl I would sign those adoption papers immediately. My affection for him hasn’t waned and I doubt it ever will.

Maybe not about everything but just a little part of it lol. I think it’d be good for me to know if I’m not alone in feeling like this or if I’ve gone completely crazy.

I will say this: if my feelings about this don’t fade/lose strength (is that how you say it??) when life is less stressful and back to normal, I’ll probably consider taking a break from Genshin, because in that case it’d mean I’m completely obsessed with something insignificant and that’s… really not healthy. I’d like to hear if this sounds rational (my mind is telling me that it does, but I also don’t know if I should completely trust my anxiety-riddled mind for the time being???)
