2023.05.30 16:04 JK-R1994 FitBit Charge 4 not counting steps at all (App and Device)
As per the title my Charge 4 isnt counting any steps at all on both my app and the device itself. Im getting text message notifications through on the Fitbit however.
Ive tried multiple times rebooting the device and have even gone as far as clearing the data on it and setting it up as if it were new again.
Anyone have this problem before or have any solutions?
I think this post maybe against the rules of the Sub but as it says tech support questions should be asked in the weekly thread however I cant see this thread pinned to the top of the subreddit.

2023.05.30 15:54 Few-Temperature4970 Hate my new job (Vent/Advice)
I'm two months into this new role and I'm already hating it. One major aspect that bothers me is that my everyday work aligns more with a support role rather than the development role which I believed I was hired for. The company has disorganised structure and a super messy database, connected with spaghetti code which has created massive tech debt. My daily tasks only include fixing things in this messy structure, which is not rewarding work.
My team members confirm this, they are evidently not happy in their roles. My manager is very abrupt and haphazard, it's hard to find time to ask any questions from them as they are running off to the next thing to do. There has been no proper onboarding process or training, I have to ask around for things and usually only the manager knows how things connect in the codebase. Team members who've been here for over a year are also in the same status as me, they have to reach out to the manager to resolve most problems as there is zero documentation or any helpful material at all.
To add to all this, the employee who I replaced and another team member - both had left after confrontations with the manager. It seems the manager has little respect towards team members, if something goes wrong the manager speaks in a very condescending and humiliating manner. This has built much nervous energy in me, as there is a loud reaction even when I'm asking a simple question. I hear manager speaking bad about team members and I fear it could be my turn next. This is not limited to my team, it seems there are similar problems in other teams. The company has no employee perks at all, the offices are old and not well supplied/kept.
The only good thing is that the pay is good. However I feel as if my mental health is taking a huge toll, I'm having constant headaches now. I don't think I'd be able to make it to one year to make it look like I'm not hopping (I don't have any other short work spans). I would be much thankful for any advice on how to keep working, as my motivation has dropped drastically.

2023.05.30 15:29 TommiMere Help beginner with 10GB FTTH home connection
Hello everyone, I am a tech savy person but not really an expert in setting up home networks.
I just bought a 10GB FTTH fiber connection with my provider that came with a router integrated with ONT, a 10GB port, four 1GB ports and WI-FI 6.
I am now looking to reach at least 2,5/5GB to my wired port in my macbook and improve my Wi-fi speed (currently around 500 mbs down and 300mbs up).
I obviously have to check that my cables are at least CAT6 and if not rewire but I was wondering what is the best way to go about the router area:
- should I just buy a 10GB switch to attach to my 10GB port in my router? What about Wi-Fi then how can I improve it?
- Should I buy a new router AND the 10GB switch? If so I probably need an external ONT that supports 10GB or any will do?
For routers I was looking at the Nighthawk AXE11000 WiFi Router (RAXE500) which is advertised as up to 10GB but the WAN port is only 2.5GB so my question is how can it reach that speed if the input is only 2.5GB?
To be clear my objective is to reach as close as possible to 10GB with my wired mac (already has a 10GB ethernet port), improve Wi-Fi as much as possible and reach as close as possible to 1GB with all my other devices (apple TV, Sonos, Smasung TV..) since they only have 1GB internet ports.
Any suggestion on set-up/products is greatly appreciated.

2023.05.30 15:27 MyMacComputer Common things scammers do to trick you!
Common Way of Online Scams
Being alert to scam messages is a great way to protect yourself online. These ‘scammers’ may try to compromise your business, home, workplace, or university, school accounts.
Scammers often use email, text messages, phone calls, and social media. Their goal is to scam people into paying money or giving away their personal information. They will often pretend to be a person or organization you trust. The world of online scams is evolving in new and dangerous ways.
ACCC calls for a united front as scammers steal over $3bn from Australians.
The latest
Targeting Scams report has revealed Australians lost a record $3.1 billion to scams in 2022, as government, law enforcement, and the private sector look to improve collaborative efforts to support the community in the fight against scams. This is an 80 percent increase in total losses recorded in 2021.
https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/news-alerts/accc-calls-for-united-front-as-scammers-steal-over-3bn-from-australians The report compiles data reported to the ACCC’s Scamwatch, ReportCyber, the Australian Financial Crimes Exchange (AFCX), IDCARE, and other government agencies.
Common things scammers do to trick you!
Authority
A message claiming to be from someone official:
Like your bank, a government department, a utility company, your doctor, or a solicitor. Criminals pretend to be important people or organizations to trick you into doing what they want.
Urgency
You are told you have a limited time to respond:
For example, ‘within 24 hours’ or ‘immediately’. Criminals often threaten you with fines or other negative consequences.
Emotion
The message makes you panic, fearful, hopeful, or curious:
Scammers use threatening language, make false claims of support, or tease you into wanting to find out more.
Scarcity
The message offers something that seems too good to be true:
Like concert tickets, money, or a cure for medical conditions? Fear of missing out on a good deal or opportunity can make you respond quickly.
An older Australian, you’re more likely to be scammed
Unfortunately, that area is in losses to scammers, with the ACCC noting that Australians aged 65 or more lost at least $120 million to scams in 2022 alone. Comparatively, the 18-24 age bracket saw losses of $16 million. Neither figure is good of course, but that’s quite the difference.
https://www.scamwatch.gov.au Top tips for avoiding scams
- Stop – take your time before giving money or personal information.
- Think – ask yourself if the message or call could be fake.
- Protect – act quickly if something feels wrong. Contact your bank and report scams to Scamwatch.
How to protect yourself from scams
A good
password management app can help in this regard.
Consider
two-factor authentication for every account that can take it. A trusted device is an iOS device, iPadOS device, or a Mac on which you’ve signed in with your developer Apple ID using two-factor authentication. It’s a device we know is yours and can be used to verify your identity by displaying a verification code from Apple when you sign in.
A trusted phone number can be used to receive verification codes by text message or automated phone call. You must verify at least one trusted phone number to enroll in two-factor authentication. This can be any type of phone number you use.
Protect you & your family with a Digital Safety Check
A Digital Safety Check for your home /office devices helps protect your family against scammers, and viruses and offers simple and affordable digital privacy solutions tailored to your needs.

2023.05.30 15:22 Hancock443 Are Linux gamers still getting banned from Apex Legends?
I managed to play the game for about a few weeks before I suddenly got a pop up message that I was banned. Throughout those weeks there have been multiple times where I was booted out of matches for absolutely no reason at all. The assets for the game were still loading back then so maybe that had something to do with them. I understand that there was a mass ban wave on Linux gamers around February-March which quickly got resolved but I'm having my doubts that it was a permanent solution.
To clarify this is not tech support. More of a question if other people are having the same/similar experience as I have.

Personally, Ano pipiliin nyo in between the two? Almost the same naman performance, pero --
4060 ti has better tech (frame generation dlss, ray tracing, more advantage and better supports in creative apps), power efficient din

2023.05.30 15:11 allinonemove Rolz still in active development?
I’ve been using the dice roller in Rolz for a while but have recently started writing tables and world building tools. Before I move all my mechanics onto the site I’d like to confirm: is Rolz still in active development and supported? I don’t see new posts on Patreon, no Discord, and there are still outstanding bugs/features here and on the site itself.
To be sure: Rolz is the best tool that I’ve found for playing online while staying rules and tech lite. So I’m hoping to continue with it.

2023.05.30 14:55 bl4z4r QueryableValues for EF Core
Hey there, dotnet community! 👋
Are you a user of Entity Framework Core on SQL Server? If so, you may be interested in
QueryableValues.
I initially developed this library to fix a long-standing performance issue in EF around plan cache pollution. But along the way, I saw the opportunity to support the ability to join in-memory data from
simple or
complex types in our queries, as if they were just another entity in the DbContext.
QueryableValues works on any version of SQL Server supported by EF Core, it's fast, efficient, and avoids plan cache pollution issues.
You can find it here:
https://github.com/yv989c/BlazarTech.QueryableValues For those still working with EF6, I've got you covered. You can find a slim version that works with the legacy EF6 here:
https://github.com/yv989c/BlazarTech.QueryableValues.EF6 Your feedback is invaluable to me, so don't hesitate to share your thoughts! 🙂

2023.05.30 14:26 kaplansaplan Mingsplosion and Chinese civil war/Manchu invasion never works out how it should
You only have to read the first two paragraphs, the last one is just me rambling. Ming exploding 20-80 years into every game gets old quick, especially when no-one ever replaces them as a strong and stable emperor of China. IOTL Ming didn't collapse until the 1600s and were quickly replaced by Later Jin as chinese emperor. The Chinese kingdoms that rise up in civil war from all the events never DOW each other and always just ally each other so China becomes a hug box you can easily divide and conquer as a Western power. Manchu never gets past Beijing, and the AI struggles to form Qing (probably because they never get the Mongolian province). I think every nation with culture in Chinese culture group should want to try to get Mandate of Heaven and DOW for it if they feel they are strong enough. When they do this they will become empire rank and they will want to get all provinces of their culture group because of how the AI values provinces now. Maybe also make it so Chinese kingdoms can't ally each other, wouldn't be that historical maybe but it would help I think.
One used to be able to joke that "just PU-ing Ming" would solve all your problems in a game, that doesn't apply at all anymore. Becoming Ming tributary used to be an early-mid game boost which let you expand into their other tributaries and be protected defensively from coalitions or larger powers if you started as weak state. I say this because I was going for the Saladin's legacy achievement and wanted to go with a more interesting plan than just kill Ottomans early with Mamluks and Ajam and then kill Mamluks with Anatolian powerbase.
So I went exploration to colonise Taiwan and become Ming tributary. I thought it would be cool roleplay that the ancestors of Saladin in the Ayybid rump state would travel to China to kow tow and ask for protection, as they would have heard of China's strength. Only to find Ming had 4 provinces, some random 5 province minor was the emperor and China was a hugbox with way better tech than me (hard to get PP when everyone around you is stronger and hates you, my rulers fucking suck and die all the time, Iraq and Kurdistan aren't wealthy enough to support advisors, I have to dev every institution and I get peasant's war, Ottomans DOW me etc.). Had to get the stupid achievement on second try with careful diplomacy (making sure Mamluks don't instantly flip hostile or domineering because they want my land when they border me), DOWing AQ before Mamluks DOW Anizah who they always ally and getting border with Ottomans. DOWing Ottomans and crushing them with my military genius (finally getting allies to attach so we can finally stack wipe an Ottoman army sieging a marsh in Iraq) and taking northern Anatolian coast and Constantinople so I get provinces with the right religion, Constantinople for renaissance and weakening the Ottomans. So I crush two birds with one stone, they don't get strong enough to pose a threat at the same time I get strong enough to eclipse the Mamluks (who still lost a war to the Ottomans without Constantinople btw). Anyway, achievement was easy on second try, but I think it would have been more fun with my original plan.

2023.05.30 14:15 planetmikecom The forest is so thick any path can't be found
I am stuck in a dead-end job doing data entry at a hospital. It's important work to the hospital's mission, but it is soul-numbing.
I'm 54. I have a BA in Geography, Masters in public administration. I work full-time at the hospital job. I am an EMT and volunteer around 20 hours per week at my local rescue squad answering 911 calls and doing membership management/paperwork. I also teach an initial EMT certification class once per year. Past jobs include web development and tech support at a non-profit lobbying firm in Washington DC; podcasting; theatre reviewer; stage manager of live theatre shows.
I really enjoy teaching. Teaching at a public school would require another year of school, which I do not want to do. I have an application in at the local community college to help teach their EMT classes.
What else should I be looking for? Any fresh ideas would be greatly appreciated.

2023.05.30 14:15 grsftw Give a shoutout today. Who deserves high praise from your MSP that's in the MSP channel?
Shoutout Tuesday!
Who's that awesome rep or tech at a vendor that goes above and beyond that you want everybody knowing about?
Let's give some focus on the positives of the vendors/partners that support us in the MSP and IT community. I'll post this once per week on Tuesdays, so don't feel the need to do a wall of text with accolades -- focus on that one rep/vendor that deserves mention this week.
To keep this thread "real," let's agree to some ground rules:
- No self-promotion.
- Be SPECIFIC: Name names, but..
- Respect PRIVACY: Name names, but not last names (use an initial), home addresses, cell phones, etc.
- Give a specific reason WHY you think the way you do.
- Stay FOCUSED: Instead of listing fifty people, list one. But be detailed about the one.
Example of a comment that is
NOT very helpful:
I love MspVendorCo. They're awesome.
Example of a comment that is helpful:
I love John D at MspVendorCo. He's my rep. Here's an example of why: Last week I thought I submitted an order to them for Widget X, but I actually never clicked Send! I called John and he tripped over himself in lining up the order so we hit our deadline. They act like that every single time I work with them.
For history on this thread, my first post for this:

2023.05.30 14:10 MMU_maulana Pursuing BTech Biotechnology as a Career: Pros and Cons
Biotechnology deals with chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and engineering. This course has a multitude of career choices for students. B.Tech Biotechnology provides an enormous area for students to grow and progress. It is as old as humanity and the manipulation of organic materials and living organisms that help students meet their fundamental needs. The goal of Biotechnology is to offer clothing, the environment, improved health, and food.
In this blog post, learn about the pros and cons of pursuing B.Tech Biotechnology as a career for students.
Pros of Biotechnology- ●
Medical Advancement Biotechnology provides medical advancement technologies. It permits us to look within as simply as exploring the outer world for advancement. The studies about the human genome and genetic diseases and their treatments help students to discover the reasons behind congenital diseases and the significance of folic acid. Doing this course means contributing to the world of medical field.
●
Health Enhancement Biotechnology helps to improve health and diminish hunger simultaneously. It has resulted in the refinement of the nutritional content of our food supply. Biotechnology is essential to generate required vitamins and miners in the croplands that decrease health problems. It boosts nutritional density and cropland yield. Since people have become more conscious of living, a healthy life, biotechnology has brighter prospects in future as well.
●
Reduction of Waste Products Biotechnology reduces undegradable wastes and develops waste products with biodegradable properties. It helps humans to manage landfills efficiently. Also, it minimizes the footprints for future generations.
●
Fall in Infectious Disease Rate Biotechnology has helped professionals in the invention of vaccines. It has lowered the symptoms of fatal diseases. In addition, it provides us with cognizance of the transmission of deadly diseases. It helps us save different lives vulnerable to infectious diseases.
●
Flexibility in the Food Chains Biotechnology helps to generate foods that are impossible under normal conditions. This study field helps researchers and experts to grow crops in the desert. In short, it becomes possible to grow crops naturally resistant to pests.
●
Preserving the Food Resources Biotechnology involves practices that include salting foods for preservation. Pasteur is an approach to heating food products to eradicate harmful elements. It ensures that the foods remain conserved for an extended period.
Thus, a career in Biotechnology for students helps students have great expertise in their fields as one can observe that all the positive aspects of biotechnology are quintessential for the survival and growth of humanity, worldwide.
Cons of Biotechnology- ●
Unknown About the Outcomes Biotechnology has expanded in the last generations. No experts know about the outcomes of altering the crops to develop in locations that generally don't support crop growth. These outcomes are unknown and have adverse impacts in the future.
●
Lack of Genetic Diversity Biotechnology experts may result in the wastage of an entire crop while increasing crop yields and improving medical sciences. It can threaten the survival of species. The process of getting DNA sequences for profit decreases human life. It opens the door to ethical questions, such as when human life starts.
●
Misuse of Biotechnology It is useful for mass destruction if not checked properly. Biotechnology can create a societal class that is chiefly generated for research purposes.
●
Soil Damage Biotechnology enables more vitamins and minerals to enter our food chain, but it is expensive. The soil may lose viability if overloaded by crops. This overuse decreases the amount of growing time while extending the recovery time. In some situations, croplands are perpetually ruined.
●
Brain-drain Concept The perception of students to pursue a Ph.D. and publish papers after studying Biotechnology might lead to less scope. Not every student gets the opportunity. They tend to study abroad for more possibilities. It is because the competition is tough, and students want to cover aspects of this career.
●
Mathematics Before proceeding with the Biotechnology course, not everyone knows that Mathematics study is essential. Students find it difficult to cope with the subject as Mathematics makes their blood run cold. However, regular practice of Maths in Biotechnology makes a man perfect.
Biotechnology may sound difficult, but interested candidates can explore their potential in this field by getting admission to prominent and reputed universities and colleges.
Wrapping Up! Biotechnology has contributed much to enhancing the way of life. A career in the Biotechnology field is more exciting than anything else. It helps to boost the quality of one's life on a global scale.
Further, the biggest advantage of doing B.Tech in Biotechnology is the immense potential to develop excellent candidates. As the field of scientific research is improving daily and getting fuelled by the desire of human beings, it creates solutions to newer and older problems. Students possessing a combination of the right skills have a great scope of growing in the Biotechnology field. It would be better for your future. 2023.05.30 13:58 Kay_122 Odoo Multi-domain Email Servers
Hi Everyone!
I have set up a new company on my Odoo instance, created an incoming mail server, helpdesk team and alias.
The problem comes in when the email is sent to the 'Username' of the mail server that being [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) it creates a helpdesk ticket in the wrong place. if I send an email to the actual odoo domain, that being [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) it creates a ticket in the correct place.
I have set up email forwarding to forward all mails sent to [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) to forward to [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) but it still does not work.
It seems that when these mails come in through [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) it does not assign them to the correct incoming mail server and a Ticket Auto-fill automation sets the company to my default company and the helpdesk team to the first one on the list.
I have tried creating automated actions to catch these emails and change the reply-to and from addresses with no luck.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and know of a way to correctly direct these tickets to the correct company without installing a 3rd party app?

2023.05.30 13:52 johnzabroski New ASUS Axe16000 not able to get DHCP IP Address from Fios
I have: 1. Verizon Fios Quantum Gateway Router (G1100) 2. Gone to 192.168.1.1 & forced DHCP Release (& did not Renew) 3. Unscrewed Coax from wall. 4. Installed Actiontec Screenbeam ECB7250 MoCA 2.5 Adapter by attaching new coax to it, screwing into wall coax outlet, plugging in patch cable and then plugging the power adapter into the wall. Coax light doesn’t light up. I proceed to ScreenBeam support page and find troubleshooting instructions:
https://retailsupport.screenbeam.com/hc/en-us/articles/4414632382477-How-can-I-test-the-MoCA-adapters-for-functionality- and perform Test 1 for successful loop back test between two ECB7250 devices. Coax light lights up on both. Did not perform Test 2 yet because doing so would require renewing DHCP on my old router and Verizon DHCP expiration is 2 hours. 5. Plugged patch cable into new ASUS Axe16000 router via Wan port, plugged router into wall. 6. Connected to
http://router.asus.com and set up network SSID and wireless password key. 7. Got red light on ASUS router indicating no internet access. 8. Tried Verizon Tech Support to see if there was anything they can do on their end. They had me reinstall the old router and they performed a DHCP Release on their end.
... And I'm still getting an error from the ASUS router saying "YOUR ISP'S DHCP DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY"
Questions I have since networking is not my strong suit:
- Is the main/immediate problem that the Moca adapter coax light didn't light up?
- Or is the problem with DHCP release?
- What is the difference between me doing a DHCP release through the router and calling Verizon and asking them to do it? I read http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15898 and it said Verizon can force the release immediately but the Tech person I talked to didn't seem to know what I was asking for or didn't want to do it?
- What am I missing and need to try next? Did I skip anything other than ScreenBeam Test 2? Should I try that next or should it be obvious (if I understood clues before me, which I don't) that step is unnecessary?
