 | The little mule does it again- my dad and I joined a 175 mile dual sport ride through NY’s Adirondack Mountains. He was on his KTM 990 Adventure S Dakar, and I was on the Himalayan. submitted by MrBattleRabbit to royalenfield [link] [comments] The ride was led by the owner of a local Beta dealership, who is also an experienced flat-track, enduro, and motocross racer (shoutout to Jim, he rules). He led the ride on his Honda Africa Twin, and the group included Triumph Tigers, KTMs 990 and 1290 Adventures, several Honda CRFs another Africa Twin, a pair of T7s, and me on the only Himalayan to ever join one of Jim’s rides. I’m glad to say that I and the Himalayan acquitted ourselves well. On dirt road sections I was able to maintain the group pace easily, and compared to some of the larger bikes I seemed to have an easier time hanging the rear out and rotating into tighter corners. On the day’s toughest climb, which wound up taking down three of the larger adventure bikes, I also made it up without trouble. In most sections my pace was somewhere between the faster front running group (the CRFs, my dad’s KTM, one of the T7s, and the two Tigers), and the four guys in the slower rear group. Generally, the more technical it was the closer I was to the front group. I did have a bit of a tank slapper in the dirt early in the day (recovered without incident), and I dug into some deep sand late in the day (also recovered without going down), so the day wasn’t totally without incident for me. On the road I had no trouble keeping up with the group- big shoutout to the Shinko tires I’m running now, they give a lot more grip leaned over than the stock Ceats did. I had to bank on my ability to maintain momentum to keep my pace up, but the Himmy didn’t disappoint too badly. It was a good time though, and I’m looking forward to the next one. A steering damper might not be a bad idea in the meantime though. It was a good time, and good to get the Himalayan out if its slow tractor comfort zone. |

I’m approved for the ny exam and work as a superintendent for a civil road and bridge contractor for around 13 years now. I was planning to take the construction exam but a lot of people seem to reccomend not to since it can be the hardest and to take transportation instead. Any advice?

 | submitted by Tunnelboy77 to autorepair [link] [comments] Diagram of valve system for this car. tl;dr Valve bucket lifter shim keeps popping off. Nobody can figure it out. So nobody has been able to figure out how/why this happens. Toyota 4runner 2006 w V8 2UZ-FE and 70k miles. Was driving about 75 miles away from home when all of the sudden the engine started stuttering and CEL came on. I pulled over and happen to have my scanner with me. It tripped a lot of codes that ended up not being meaningful to this particular problem. Towed the vehicle back home and checked a bunch of stuff out. I thought the timing belt might have skipped a tooth or two. Anyway, a lot of research later and I found that the #5 valve was stuck open ever so slightly. Pulled off valve covers and finally found the culprit. See diagram above. This engine uses bucket lifters with little shims under the bucket. I ran it by a bunch of mechanics. Professionals and friends. Most (including myself) thought it was either a bent valve or a broken spring. I removed the camshaft, bucket and shim and pushed down on the valve and it was smooth as poop. No resistance or stickiness whatsoever. Put everything back together, changed timing belt while I was there and carefully tested clearance between bucket and cam. Moved a few shims around to get every valve to spec. Drove it around perfectly for about 200 miles. Then it did it again! I decided to pull the heads. It HAD to be a bent valve, or sticky bucket. I brought the heads to a reputable shop and told them specifically to call me when they had it apart as I wanted to see the valve, spring, bucket and bucket bore. I went down there, and all was immaculate. Valve was perfect, everything was perfect. I had them go through with the valve job while it was all disassembled. Got the heads back and have put them on. About 80% done. That's where I'm at now. Now I'm wondering whether I should just replace the engine. Can't figure this one out. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?
Me? I went to 3 years of vocational auto tech and 2 years at State University of NY for auto tech. Was a mechanic for a few years and then got into something cleaner. Have done probably a dozen valve jobs, but never a whole engine overhaul. |

I moved in with my friend to help him start a company and to really just fuck the world. I was super excited about this, I had a perfect situation in the state I left, I had an apartment my good friends would come visit and drink at I had a motorcycle I couldn’t get enough of I had a loving beautiful girlfriend and my family lived 4 minutes down the road. The only thing missing was agency and I cannot live without it I need a direction I can be determined in and just go.
At first it was awesome. My friend quit his job and we started working on the company, getting jobs, trying different ways to approach side hustles and a bunch of fun mildly crazy shit. We were living and breathing progress and determination I was beyond happy and ready to go do any Manual or not physical labor at any given second. I realized that if this is what I wanted then other areas of my life needed to be in line or I would not be able to maintain it however as it was looking more demanding future wise. Me and my girlfriend both knew it was coming as she was simply not someone I’d choose to spend time with outside of the love I had for her. I broke up with her for that reason and my belief that as I cannot see myself settling down a girlfriend would simply be a distraction.
As time went on my friend suddenly began dating a girl he’d referred to as a “in another life but not the time” kind of girl. Obviously I was happy for them but failed to recognize how it insidiously overthrew the time we spent together and thus corroding the mutual ambition we had to hustle every waking moment, or so I thought. I began treating the time he spent alone with her as recreational time for myself as well assuming it was a weekend thing. He even would send her home early on nights we had shit planned for the next day and tell her he needed to stay focused but as time went on that vanished and she’s become a constant presence. In the process I saw less and less of him and was left to my own devices of which I had practically none, no car, little cash, and zero focus for anything but OUR projects. It almost made less sense to start my own since he’d be back and the two of us combined would be 4x as efficient. Turns out that while I’m passively waiting for things to rev up again he’s just been plodding along without me or with his gf to the point where I woke up one day and had zero clue as to what was going on. I would exercise my ability and understood authority to make a development for the company and my friend would get pissed and say it was in the works and not to fuck it up despite the contrast in our individual attitudes towards it.
I would resolve the problem with him and we’d move on all the while I’m becoming more and more unmotivated and lonely as he completely stopped asking to do shit with me and I have zero friends here as I’m a 20 hour drive from the nearest friend. I’ve struggled with loneliness my entire life due to being the black sheep and scapegoat in a family of 11 and as a result developed incredibly sound relationships with a handful of friends that despite the most terrifying ups and downs have excitedly managed to literally piss loyalty and integrity with one another for 13 years. That’s what we yearn for and that’s what I yearn for as well, not just agency but companionship, brothers, family you’d do anything for unconditionally. I completely lack that here as phone calls only go so far. My friend here even mocked me for my loneliness on one occasion. It eats my alive but what’s worse is my coping habits are trying to come back with it. I would spend most days ripped on adderal and fixated on a task or anything to stay whole and when night came around I would eat a handful of NyQuil, some shots of whiskey, a couple bowls of weed, and a massive meal to make up for the lack of before playing competitive shooter games and engaging in self pleasuring acts till 3 just to wake up feeling like shit 6 hours later and do it again. I overcame these habits although my unhealthy stimulation habit remains despite me switching to vyvanse which is the same as adderal but without the amphetamine. When I say I overcame them I don’t mean I beat them. They rarely had me. I’m a degenerate I know better than all of that I’ve know better for years. I simply matured and realized I wasn’t coping for copings sake and needed to seek what my body and mind were begging for. Now they are regressing. I feel myself slipping I could not say no last night and realized that those habits did in fact make me happier than a moody emotionally unhinged depressive craze. I want to amend my relationship with my friend I want my friend back I want to attack life again I want to be able to do it regardless of whether there’s a distracting presence I don’t want to lose hope again I want what’s good, I don’t believe I need help but I seek advice and a none deranged perspective, the loneliness is compounding upon itself I’m ok right now but I know how this could go.

I'm moving to a studio without central cooling, and need to determine what BTU AC unit I need. The apartment is roughly 350 square feet (I don't have exact dimensions but I they are between 15x20 and 20x20). Additionally, I will of course be using the oven and stove, as well as my computer, which has a max draw of 2000W. The computer is often at a moderate load.
Additionally, my studio is on the ground level along a major road, with two windows facing south south west. The exterior walls are brick, the north (back) back wall is built into a hill, and there are two stories above me. I live in Albany NY, and the apartment will regularly contain either just myself or myself and up to 2 other people.
I'm mostly trying to choose between a 10,000 and 12,000 BTU unit. I've been looking at the Midea U-shaped Air Conditioner, because of the 15 SEER and 42db (living along a major road, I'll want every bit of quiet I can get!), as well as the ability to keep the window mostly closed, keeping traffic noise out more.

I have been exploring apartments near Gun Hill Road and Tremont / Burnside Avenues. How do these train lines run on weekends, for example 2 am on Saturday night?
I would like to have access to a train within walking distance at all times instead of both train lines dying. Usually the 2 runs on the 2/5 west but it changes to the 5 on weekends. But is this true at night like will I be able to get home if I work until 11 pm?
Being dependent on one train line for example living by the 6 north of Morrison (so that it's too far to walk to 174th st), isnt a good idea.
What are your experiences with these train lines and the weekend situation? I will be going back to working 6 days a week when I get back to the Bronx. Also is 950 HOA fee for a 1000 apartment too expensive if the equity is under 100k?

Hi, I live in NYC and my beater car was recently totaled so I don't have one now. Honestly it's nice not to have one and I don't really need it except for certain kinds of errands and road trips. I use transit and cycling for most travel no matter what. However, I am now 1099 and can make full use of the $7,500 federal tax credit and a $2,000 NY rebate. The final price for a new model 3 with a few options now comes out to $30,680, WELL below used Model 3 selling prices (2-4k below 4 year old Model 3s with 50k miles). I have a relatively large savings/stock account which can easily cover this and still be healthy but my income itself does not justify the purchase. Should I take this, enjoy it for a year or two and sell it after to potentially profit or break even?

 | Hi -- March '21 pre-order in Brooklyn, NY. Our delivery window was Aug-Sept '23, and I e-mailed Rivian about getting shop access so we could have our R1S for more of the summer for road trips. Five days later it was granted! With shop access my wife and I went 'round and 'round a bit trying to decide what we wanted now that getting the car was becoming a reality. We ended up with a preferred config, and decided to wait to see if it would appear: after several days of regular checking, it showed up (FG/FE/20" AT Brights/Underbody Shield.) Here are all of the new US CHAdeMO (Leaf fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
There were 124 "new" CHAdeMOs added in May. To put it in perspective, there were 112 CHAdeMO chargers added in April. I think the pace of CHAdeMO rollout has stabilized, while the pace of CCS rollout is still increasing. This makes sense given that only Nissan still makes a CHAdeMO car.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
We all know that CHAdeMO is a legacy format and will eventually go away, but clearly Nissan and their partners are continuing to support it for the time being. This shouldn't be surprising. After all, you can still buy a new Leaf.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or reading these monthly reports is just frustrating in your state, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications only when new stations actually open. Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
There were 222 CCS charge points added or refreshed in May 2023, which is up from 171 in April. For comparison, there were only 74 new CCS charge points in May 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars, but so far in very few locations. If they start doing this at scale and reporting it to the Alternative Fuels Data Center then it will be reflected here.
"What about Ford vehicles with NACS (Tesla) plugs?" They are not on sale yet. Current-generation Ford vehicles have CCS plugs. The next generation will have NACS (Tesla) plugs, but will also support CCS via an adapter.

I have been thinking about this for awhile, and I have decided I want to move to NY. I have an opportunity to move in with some of my best friends in Oct/Nov of this year (4-5 months away) and I am going to do it.
My mid year review with my boss is on Friday, and I decided that would be a good time to tell him.
I am extremely nervous, because I am an important part of my 3 person team (client service in wealth management), and it is never easy when somebody leaves. Training someone new on the job and all of the client relationships is a timely task. I feel bad putting extra work onto my team, because I am close with them and it just makes me feel awful! And I am giving them so much notice because I want them to be well prepared, but I fear for the months that follow that things will be different or if my team will have resentment towards me for leaving.
I decided to move to NY because I am 24 and all of my close friends have moved their recently. I have spent all of my life within the Bay Area, and I am ready for a change. I feel bad because one of the questions in my interviews for this job was if I was planning to stay in SF. At that time, that was true, but perspectives change.
How would you go about telling your boss this? I don’t have the mentality of fuck corporate America because my boss treats me very well. I had some tough family times losing my brother and my dad having cancer and he was nothing but supportive and understanding of whatever time I needed to deal with those matters.
My company’s headquarters is in NY, and I have spoken with HR privately about the possibility of moving to that office. They say they can’t be sure that far in advance, because it depends if a position opens. I am wondering if I should touch on that subject on Friday, or bring it up further down the road?
The mid year review will most likely be on zoom because my boss doesn’t work from office on Fridays. Do you think it’s okay to do it over zoom?

Karen Louise Wilson was born on February 10th, 1963, to Taylor and Jennie Wilson. She was a popular student in high school and a cheer leader. She was then a full-time senior political science major at the State University of New York and an unpaid, full-time intern for state Assemblyman Samuel Coleman. She aspired to have a career in the foreign service.
On Wednesday the 27th of March 1985, the 22 year old vanished without a trace.
THE TIMELINE:
On the 27th, Karen went to the Colonie Center and bought a red t-shirt and a blue t-shirt to take with her on an upcoming spring break trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She may have also gotten a tan at the Tanning Hut; she had booked an appointment that day but no one at the tanning salon could remember seeing her.
She was last seen in the 1600 block of Central Avenue in Colonie, New York at approximately 7:20 pm. She also called her roommate around this time, and said she was on her way home for dinner.
It was initially believed that Karen got on a bus near the Butcher Block restaurant on Central Avenue and took it to Fuller Avenue, but it was later determined that she couldn’t have gotten on the bus and probably walked instead. 3 credible witnesses would later tell authorities that they had seen her on Fuller Avenue shortly afterwards.
THE LAST 3 SIGHTINGS:
SIGHTING 1: The first witness told authorities that she saw Karen traveling southbound on Fuller Rd after she turned from Central Ave at 8:15pm.
She stated that as she approached a gas station on her left (believed to be the Workingman’s Friend Gas Station), she passed a very slow-moving vehicle, also traveling southbound. She could not recall any specifics of the vehicle's description, except that the driver was a white male in his forties with an intent look on his face. The male had a beard, brown hair with a reddish tint, and a long nose and face.
The witness then saw a female believed to be Karen, walking near a guide rail along the west side of Fuller Road near Sysco Food. By the time the witness reached Fuller Rd at Railroad Ave, she had already driven past the female.
SIGHTING 2: The second witness saw someone they believed to be Karen on the west side of Fuller Road. This was between 8:10pm - 8:15pm.
She stated that the female was walking south of the entrance of Six Mile Waterworks (also known as Rensselaer Lake) near the construction road leading west off Fuller Road. This area is located just north of the I-90 underpass. The female was walking on the grassy portion of the sidewalk, with her head down.
A smaller person of unknown sex was walking along the female’s right side "almost shoulder to shoulder" seemingly urging her up an embankment or incline into the Six Mile area. The smaller person was described as between 5'5 - 5'8 (165-172cm), and between 120-140lbs (54-64kg). When the female turned her head to the left, the witness thought she appeared nervous.
The witness also described a white male following 50 to 100 feet behind the two subjects. He was walking at a steady pace, not seeming to be gaining on the two. He was described as about 5'11 (180cm) with a slim build, in his early 20's, wearing dark pants and a waist length jacket which may have been beige. He had light colored hair (gold to red), and a beard or some other type of facial hair. The couple then returned to the sidewalk and began walking in a normal manner southbound on Fuller Road.
After the witness stopped at the red light at the I-90 ramp, and then continued southbound, she saw the couple past the dirt construction road on the right, just out from the I90 underpass.
She also stated that she saw a stopped or disabled small unoccupied black vehicle at Fuller Rd at Washington Ave Ext. The vehicle had a New York plate bearing partial plate 239 with unknown letters. The car was sedan style and believed to be about five years old. The driver's window was down about 6" and the passenger window was down about 2". She thought this was odd because it looked like it was about to rain. Also noted on the driver's side window was a hole about ¼" in diameter with cracks radiating from it. She thought that it looked like a bullet hole.
SIGHTING 3: The last sighting of Karen was by a third witness at approximately 8:20pm as he left work at the SUNY Albany Campus, and was waiting at the traffic light on Washington Ave and Fuller Rd.
He was waiting for traffic to clear so that he could turn right, proceed north on Fuller Rd and access the I-90 entrance ramp across from the Six Mile entrance. The female was reportedly seen standing on the northwest corner of Fuller Road for about 10 seconds while the witness was waiting for the traffic to clear. He believed that the female appeared to be waiting for the traffic light to change.
When he made the right turn onto Fuller Rd, the witness saw a male crossing Fuller Rd from the west side to the east side, just south of the I-90 underpass. He took a few steps up the driveway where the construction trailers were on the east side of Fuller but seemed to change his mind. He then walked south on the east side of Fuller Rd. The male subject did not appear to be looking towards Karen.
He was described as a white male with "sandy or light brown, messy or curly" hair, with a couple of days growth of facial hair. He was of average height, about 18 - 25 years old, and was wearing a jean (denim?) or aviator type jacket, jeans, a flannel shirt, and high tan construction boots.
As the witness turned right onto the I-90 ramp, he saw a lime green Volkswagen Rabbit (estimated to be a 1981 or 1982) parked along the road. There was no one around the vehicle. This appears to have been the last sighting of her, and she hasn’t been heard from since.
Due to these witness accounts, authorities believe Karen likely walked south on Fuller Avenue towards State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. They concluded she was likely abducted somewhere near Six-mile Waterworks, the entrance ramp to Interstate 90 westbound and the Northway. The night was not well lit, and the road was not heavily traveled, making it possible for someone to pull her into a vehicle within a matter of seconds without leaving witnesses.
DESCRIPTIONS & BELONGINGS:
Karen was a Caucasian female listed at 5’3 (160cm) and 114lbs (51kg) with brown hair and brown eyes.
Investigators were unable to locate the personal belongings she had with her when she disappeared. These included: A gray cloth notebook, a blue nylon wallet with a Velcro closure, a green and white plastic bag from Ups N Down, and possibly a blue knapsack containing a yellow dress.
She was wearing a Cream-colored raincoat, a light blue short-sleeve pullover, faded blue Levi jeans and white sneakers. She also had a 14k gold ring, size 5 ½, with a turquoise zircon in raised setting along with 1/5 carat diamond on each side, a Seiko watch with a black face and gold numerals and white plastic earrings. The ring was approximately 40-50 years old.

SUSPECTS:
1. A strange man was seen in the area around the time Karen vanished. He has never been identified and authorities have sought him for questioning, at least as a witness or possibly even a suspect.
2. Authorities announced that another suspect in the case was killed in an accidental house fire in 2013. He was never able to be conclusively linked to the case, and it’s thought he couldn’t be the perpetrator as he had reported to work at 4:00am, just a few hours after Karen vanished.
(On a personal note, this conclusion makes little sense to me. Karen’s last confirmed sighting was at around 7:20 pm, leaving nearly 9 hours in between her last known sighting and the time he clocked in to work. The last witness reported seeing her at 8:20pm which still leaves slightly under 8 hours.)
3. Authorities investigated the possibility that convicted murderer and suspected child-serial killer Lewis Lent Jr may have been involved in Karen's disappearance, but determined it was unlikely since Lent's previous victims were all children. He has not been ruled out.
THEORIES:
1. Police did investigate the possibility that Karen traveled to Florida after her disappearance as she had planned but found no evidence that she had ever left New York.
2. Her case has possible links to Suzanne Lyall’s abduction. Both were young, dark haired SUNY students abducted in the same manner. Authorities have investigated a possible link between the two. Both cases are unsolved.
The general consensus is that Karen was abducted and murdered.
PERSONAL THEORIES:
1. Due to Unresolved Mysteries not letting me add photos to this write-up I am unable to provide a sketch of the strange man seen in the area at the time. However, he has an uncanny resemblance to convicted serial killer John Bittrolff. It might be possible he is linked to the case, but this is simply an observation.
2. 2 young women were found murdered and floating in the river close to where Karen disappeared at the same time she vanished. It might be possible that the cases were linked.
CONCLUSION:
During the first year after her disappearance, Karen's family, who now live out-of-state, mailed thousands of letters pleading for information and advertising their $10,000 reward for new details about her disappearance. They have now given up hope of their daughter coming back alive, and simply want to find her body, so they can give her a proper burial and finally know what happened to their daughter.
I don’t have much hope of a conclusion for this case any time soon. It seems clear she was abducted and murdered, and without a body there is no evidence that could lead to anything. Unless her body is found, or someone comes forward, I see this case being unsolved for years to come.
Karen Louise Wilson has been missing for 38 years. If she is still alive, she would be 60 years old.

1. Due to Unresolved Mysteries not letting me add photos to this write-up I am unable to provide a sketch of the strange man seen in the area at the time. However, he has an uncanny resemblance to convicted serial killer John Bittrolff. It might be possible he is linked to the case, but this is simply an observation.
2. 2 young women were found murdered and floating in the river close to where Karen disappeared at the same time she vanished. It might be possible that the cases were linked.
CONCLUSION:
During the first year after her disappearance, Karen's family, who now live out-of-state, mailed thousands of letters pleading for information and advertising their $10,000 reward for new details about her disappearance. They have now given up hope of their daughter coming back alive, and simply want to find her body, so they can give her a proper burial and finally know what happened to their daughter.
I don’t have much hope of a conclusion for this case any time soon. It seems clear she was abducted and murdered, and without a body there is no evidence that could lead to anything. Unless her body is found, or someone comes forward, I see this case being unsolved for years to come.
Karen Louise Wilson has been missing for 38 years. If she is still alive, she would be 60 years old.
