Short Squeeze: $EXPI
2023.06.08 23:38 2FatC Short Squeeze: $EXPI
Full Disclosure: I own $EXPI.
eXp is a digital realty brokerage company that traded down as interest rates went up and home purchasing stalled this year. Its PE ratio remains in the nosebleed seats.
16.88% of eXp's small float of 75.8M shares was sold short.
Yesterday after market close, news broke that eXp World Holdings would join the S&P SmallCap 600 effective prior to opening of trading June 14. An "uh oh" moment for the shorts.
In the stampede for the exits, the stock jumped from its Wednesday closing price of $16.69 to close today at $20.14. Volume traded was over 5M shares. Average volume is about 700k shares.
I point the squeeze out, not because I expect more large upward moves in the stock price, though it could happen, but instead to highlight an example where a reasonably logical short position can turn into a rout.
Consider this: eXp is a tiny, niche tech play on the digitization of real estate brokerages where the brick/mortafranchise model is undergoing change. Trading volume is low, though volume has grown in the 3 years I've owned the stock. Note: Low volume and less than 100M shares in the float.
By comparison, Zillow's:
- float is 153.5M on average volume of 2.4M.
- Short ratio = 12.2%
Given what we know about home prices, wages, and interest rates, shorting eXp (and Zillow and Redfin) makes sense, though the low trading volume and size of the float should be considered. eXp does pay a dividend but it's tiny at eighteen cents/yr.
So yes, a logical short candidate. Until positive news like the company is now included in the S&P SmallCap 600. And the short sellers need to find an exit door.
Some facts about Standard & Poor's SmallCap 600:
- The S&P 600 is a benchmark index for small-cap stocks published by Standard & Poor's.
- To be listed on the S&P 600, stocks must have a market cap of $850 million to $3.6 billion, preventing overlap with S&P's larger cap indices.
- Several index ETFs and mutual funds allow investors to track the performance of the S&P 600 small-cap index.
- The main reason to invest in small caps is that they have more room to grow than large caps.
- Small-cap stocks are not as closely followed by professional analysts, allowing investors to “get in” on these companies while they’re flying under Wall Street’s radar.
Other ETF's that track the S&P SC 600:
- The iShares Core S&P Small-Cap ETF (IJR)
- The SPDR Portfolio S&P 600 Small-Cap ETF (SPSM)
- The Invesco S&P SmallCap Value With Momentum ETF (XSVM)
- The Invesco S&P SmallCap Momentum ETF (XSMO)
All this to say, mind the risks when going long small caps and also going short. Headline news risk can hurt on small companies with thinly traded stock. Be aware. Beware.
I may or may not take advantage of the squeeze between now and June 14. I do not see the macro real estate market in the US "snapping" back like a rubber band so I do expect macro conditions to weigh on eXp over the next 6 mos. or so. But that's just this person's opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

2023.06.08 22:26 Tartara993 The Tunnels
first creepypasta, i am welcoming of feedback
just barely 2,000 words
I'm going to get everything off my chest, I have been seeing them since I quit my job and I do not think I will be able to convince you, so you must listen to me, before they come. I must tell my story, and I won’t be able to tell it twice; What I have seen shakes me to my core. But you must believe me.
I had just got out of university and found my first job on the underground, maintaining the tube tunnels beneath London: kilometres of wide cylindric tunnels that are black as night even during the day. The job seemed great, lots of pay for monitoring cameras and walking about underused passages to every now and then fix a broken pipe. I did both the night and daytime shifts with each having their own rules. You know the usual things, always check the cams always for broken equipment within the tunnels, if so, always check what trains are running in that area and which tunnels they are taking. Safety first. They were the rules management gave me, but upon arriving for my first day shift, I found a very different set placed upon my small desk. The page had almost yellowed with the left-hand side having 3 separate regular holes stapled into it. There were 2 glaring underlined phrases at the top and bottom of the page, Day Rules, and Night Rules. It read:
Rules for the day.
rule 1, always be checking cameras, especially the one pointed at the Y intersection, outside station ***********
Rule 2, if you need to leave the monitoring station, to repair a pipe or anything broken within the system always take a strong torch, they do not like strong lights.
Rule 3, when outside the monitoring room for any reason, do not under any circumstances make loud noises, unless masked by a train or something else, otherwise you will wake them up.
Rule 4, it should not be active during the day, but if you fail to follow rule 3, it will find you, you will see it, stay completely still and resort to your torch if you feel threatened.
Rule 5, if you see any movement from the right tunnel of y intersection mentioned previously, do not exit the monitoring room
Rule 6, never enter that right tunnel
The place where the night rules had been listed was absent, a hole in the page as though somebody had torn straight through it.
This unnerved me to say the least, with the little voice in the back of my head telling me it was fake, still I decided to follow the rules despite my scepticism, it is not as though they directly impacted my work or made me do anything to ludicrous.
So, I did as I was told, I watched cameras, listened to music, scrolled through reddit. That shift was overall quite relaxing. I managed to find the camera the rules were talking about in the top right of the monitor, it showed the two tunnels, with a singular red bulb giving light to the area, I squinted. There seemed to be something in the tunnel, it was short and thin almost unnaturally so, slightly hunched over by the side of the tracks just within the right tunnel. A lever? I ignored it, my mind is playing tricks on me it did seriously look like the lever for the junction with how almost ruler straight the outline stood. I noticed a burst pipe on another of the cameras, it was in one of the small maintenance tunnels, not too far from my room. I got up from the desk, picked up my torch from the hangar, put on my protective gear and headed out into what seemed to be a void. Lengths of endless dimly lit tunnels, I kept looking at my map. The monotonous corridors stretched on, endless lengths of concrete and metal. I heard something, it was quick and quiet, I struggle to remember, it almost sounded abrasive like something blunt scraping against the concrete wall. I reached the burst pipe, bringing out the tools on my belt to start repairing it, there were long thing gashes across the pipe, not large, quite small, but deep enough to break the thin metal casting on the series of pipes. It's odd I haven’t seen anything on cams. The quiet caused me to flinch, slowly broken with the regular hum of the white light above me, looking up from my work every so now and then, I managed to get into a rhythm. I should have brought my headphones.
A sudden pop pulled me out of my stupor, followed by a crash and the sound of breaking glass. I almost hit the roof of the tunnel, as it became cloaked in darkness. A knot began to form in my stomach as I felt tension creep across my face, rule 3, whatever the rule meant by something finding me, whether it was a prank by the night shift guy last night or whether the rules were actually real I did not want to find out. I decided the best form of action would be to quietly sneak back to the monitoring room, it was not that far and the lights at the distant end of the tunnel were still on. I started to move ever so quietly putting one foot Infront of the other, keeping my ears pricked, not easing the sudden paranoia.
I was close, I could see the door to the monitoring room at the other end of the corridor as I rounded the corner, suddenly bathed in light, it became slightly blurred as my eyes struggle to adjust, walking forward, and rubbing my eyes.
I turned around, I don’t know why, maybe it was instinct, or divine intervention, but that does not matter now. What I saw curling from around the corner, was a pair of hands, gently grasping around the hard corner, I almost missed them, they were nearly as pale as the grey wall. The nails gave them away. Black and long, ending in cracked and blunt ends.
I didn’t want to look any further, I dashed to the monitoring room. Slamming the door shut, locking it in an instant. Falling to my knees.
I told myself I had hallucinated, I cried and whispered to myself that I was hallucinating. It is just my surroundings, being cooped up in a room underground, the fuzziness in my eyes that were getting used to the glaring lights of the hallway endlessly watching or being cooped up in a room underground and watching cameras will do that to a person.
Cameras
I scrambled into my chair, whizzing the mouse around, the screen popped up. The camera outside my room showed nothing, nothing outside my door, nothing in the hallway, nothing where the light bulb had popped.
My shift was nearly over. But to leave I would have to walk outside and back through those passages to get back to the train station I had entered through. I waited a while, just sitting there, watching the second-hand rise and fall.
I finally wrestled the courage to peek through the small window, through the grating, I pulled the handle, it made a clicking, then a large groaning noise as I tiptoed out of the door. The tension in the air was palpable, and the eerie silence stung my ears.
I had gotten halfway by the time it started, at first, I could barely hear it, a distant sound that blended in with noises of creaking rails, pipes and the sound of trains going by, it sounded like the wind, I told myself, but as it became louder and louder, I stopped, and listened. It was like someone throwing marbles or dashing the concrete with gravel, it happened in short rapid bursts. I had just rounded a corner. The noise was still far off, 40 metres maybe? Then it stopped, silence once again filled the tunnel.
I started to walk on slowly, keeping my head turned to one side. It all happened at once. Several large pops, the high-pitched breaking of glass. The sound became aggravated, almost clumsy, coming towards me rapidly.
I started to run, rounding corners as fast as I could, I wanted to make sure not to see what was making the noise, who knows what might happen to me if I did.
My panting was gradually drowned out by growing noise of footsteps and talking. Slamming the steel gate shut.
After the first day, I was to say the least, confused, and perplexed. I just sat at home thinking about it, again and again. It terrified me. I wanted to quit then and there, save myself the trouble if I was right. But I had student loans to pay, and the sum was not getting any lower. So as the schedule demanded, the night after, I descended.
I still held on, that I might have imagined it, that maybe, it was all a bad dream. But I could see where the bulbs had popped, a thin stretch of mangled wires and sharp glass.
I stared into the hallway and an abyss stared back, only 5 lights had blown but that corner seemed to lead to nowhere.
As I pushed through the darkness, I noticed the walls, small, thin, slightly curved lines, like the leaves of a palm tree scratched into the concrete, they covered the following walls, like a malign infection growing in the concrete.
I opened the door to my workstation and started to work, I took no chances this time I watched the cameras more, switching between them and anything that I could use to pass the time, the slow blinking red light at the Y intersection. I thought I was going to go insane, as the hours dragged by. I was ripped from my work as a ghastly sound played over the cameras, all of them seemed to play it at once, a guttural scream, as though the last breath of an abandoned and dying child were being released. It howled, it whined on and on. I laid low in my chair, as though it could see me, but after 2 minutes the sound stopped, and it walked out of the tunnel.
My mind was a whirl of thought and maniacal screeching, should I leave the office? If so, where should I go? How fast is it? Do I have enough time to reach the surface?. I felt the seconds fly by. I caught it again, I nodded, so that’s what was making that sound last night, I almost marvelled at it, in the concrete tunnels, a vicious blaze curling through the passages.
I pulled the last remnants of my sanity together and started to run, I knew I would be at a disadvantage in the small tunnels, so I headed towards the tube tunnels close by. I stopped panting, grasping my chest and the air, I froze, not speaking, not panting. A pair of hands curled round the side of the corner behind me with palpable glee, as it took its first step around the corner, I could finally gaze upon the nightmare. It was tall, hunched to stop its head scraping against the roof, yet its long arms reached down and touched the floor, it covered its eyes looking downwards, the individual parts of its spine rose like a concave herald. That smile, thin yet taught. Plastered across a malshapen body and skull.
I dashed towards the nearby maintenance door, that sound following me, the sounds of marbles scattered on a hard floor, as that sound was etched into my brain, I could now pick out each individual nail scraping against the walls.
I do not remember much more after that, the smell of metal and brick dust, the blinking red light in the distance, illuminating the wide opening. I followed the tracks, running until I could not run anymore, I must have slammed it hard enough. A light in the distance, a station, I wretched away the last of my stamina.
I stood, scared, shivering holding my flashlight tight, the light reflecting the golden archway, bathing the platform, the crest, recognisable to all and below it, Per purum sanguinem, the large, bolted door, slightly adjar.

2023.06.08 10:45 kiwibreakfast Genshiro Ashina jumping arrow spread -- how to counter?
So, this fight is a bit of a brick wall, and I've been gradually making headway I just ... the attack where he jumps up in the air and fires a spread of five arrows has been utterly vicious and I have no idea what to do about it.
- they come out fast enough that if you fail to counter one, the rest WILL hit you during the stagger
- the track/spread is too good for me to dodge out of the way
- he only seems to initiate it when I'm too far away to interrupt with the sword
- the fan deploys FAR too slowly to be useful
- I'm just not that good at parrying. Harhar git gud, etc etc, I'm trying, I've gotten okay at parrying his big flurry, but the arrows nail me every time.
Is there some trick here I'm missing? The rest of the fight seems difficult-but-manageable but every single time he jumps in the air I can feel my heart falling, I just do not know how to deal with it.
EDIT: the good news is I've kind of starting figuring it out. The bad news is HE HAS A THIRD PHASE????????????????!!!!!!!!
EDIT 2: I have clowned on his third phase, it's weirdly easy compared to the other two? Lightning Counter + Firecracker = functional stunlock. Rare to see a guy go beastmode final phase and get weaker.

2023.06.08 07:17 Past_Cost2170 What are the different types of beauty supply stores?
The beauty supply industry is a vast and ever-changing landscape, with new stores and brands popping up all the time. This can make it difficult to know where to start when looking for
beauty products. To help you out, we've put together a guide to the different types of
beauty supply stores.
Chain stores
Chain stores are the most common type of beauty supply store. They offer a wide variety of products at a variety of price points. Some of the most popular chain stores include Sally Beauty Supply, Cosmoprof, and SalonCentric. Independent stores
Independent beauty supply stores are smaller and more specialized than chain stores. They often focus on a particular type of product, such as hair care, makeup, or nails. Independent stores can be a great place to find unique products that you won't find at chain stores. Online stores
Online beauty supply stores offer the convenience of shopping from home. They often have a wider selection of products than brick-and-mortar stores, and they may offer lower prices. However, it's important to do your research before buying from an online store, as some of them may not be reputable. Ethnic beauty supply stores
Ethnic beauty supply stores cater to specific ethnic groups. They often carry products that are not available at mainstream beauty supply stores. For example, ethnic beauty supply stores may carry hair care products for African American hair, or makeup products for Asian skin tones. Beauty supply stores for professionals
Beauty supply stores for professionals are designed to meet the needs of hair stylists, makeup artists, and other beauty professionals. These stores carry a wide variety of products, including professional-grade hair care products, makeup, and tools. No matter what your needs are, there is a beauty supply store out there that has what you're looking for. So don't be afraid to explore your options and find the perfect store for you. Here are some of the benefits of shopping at different types of beauty supply stores:
- Chain stores: Chain stores offer a wide variety of products at a variety of price points. This makes them a great option for people who are looking for a specific product or who want to compare prices.
- Independent stores: Independent beauty supply stores are often more specialized than chain stores. This means that they may carry products that you won't find at other stores. Independent stores can also be a great place to find unique products or products that are not available in your area.
- Online stores: Online beauty supply stores offer the convenience of shopping from home. They often have a wider selection of products than brick-and-mortar stores, and they may offer lower prices. However, it's important to do your research before buying from an online store, as some of them may not be reputable.
- Ethnic beauty supply stores: Ethnic beauty supply stores cater to specific ethnic groups. They often carry products that are not available at mainstream beauty supply stores. This can be a great option for people who are looking for products that are specifically designed for their hair type or skin tone.
- Beauty supply stores for professionals: Beauty supply stores for professionals are designed to meet the needs of hair stylists, makeup artists, and other beauty professionals. These stores carry a wide variety of products, including professional-grade hair care products, makeup, and tools. This can be a great option for people who are looking for high-quality products at a discounted price.
When choosing a
beauty supply store, it's important to consider your needs and budget. If you're looking for professional-grade products, a salon supply store is the best option. If you're looking for everyday
beauty products at a lower price, a drugstore or mass merchandiser is a good option. And if you're looking for a wide selection of beauty products,
ExpressBeautyOnline an online beauty supply store is the best option.

2023.06.07 20:43 Future_Ad_3485 The Swallow and the Mad Hatter Part Eleven: A Lilac in the Bayou
Laying in bed, my hand rested on my bump. How did I end like this? Demonic and pregnant, that very statement sounding like a cheap movie title. Demy slumbered next to me, the day was ours to be had. Demy promised me a date today, and I suppose I should take it. Swinging my feet over the edge of the bed, a black box waited for me. Opening the top, my breath was stolen from me. Golden lace sparrows flew over a scarlet rockabilly dress, my shaking fingers pulling it out. Holding it to my body, the measurements were exact to me. The mattress creaked as Demy sat up, the morning sun bathing his handsome features.
“Do you like it? I ordered it a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, it will fit.” He yawned groggily, rubbing his eyes. “I also ordered new jeans for you, considering that they won’t fit eventually. Try it on.” Tugging on my snug bra, the dress fit perfectly. Loving the way the skirt floated away from me, Demy was already dressed in a simple black dress shirt and dark jeans. His casual look threw me off, a scythe charm dangled off of his wrists. Staring at him with pure bewilderment, he tugged his hair into a neat man bun. Shrugging his shoulders, he sauntered over to me. His hungry eyes devoured me.
“I like it very much.” I stammered with a fluttering heart. Wrapping his arm around the small of my waist, his lips pressed against mine passionately. Arching my body towards him, time stopped once more. Why did this keep happening! Releasing me from his spell, his forehead pressed against mine.
“I forgot to tell you that I can disguise myself. Now I look like an albino goth.” He explained playfully, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. “Let me fix your hair.” Brushing through it, he twisted it into a simple side braid. Kicking over my boots, he kissed my forehead while I slid on my boots. Spinning around the room, he swung me underneath him. Smothering me in kisses, he placed me on his back. Walking downstairs, we burst out onto the busy street. People smiled at us as he took every turn to an abandoned mansion. Vines had claimed the red brick, the metal porches barely hanging on.
“I bought it for us.” He proclaimed proudly, placing his hands on his hips. “I thought it was time we got a place of our own. What do you think?” Tears welled up in my eyes, my hand falling on my bump. He didn’t have to, my other hand clenching into a tight ball. Glancing up at the top window, a lone female spirit floated in her flowing nightgown. Cocking my head, shadowy hands ripped her back. Bursting through the front door, dust covered the water damaged walls. Sprinting upstairs, my fingers curled around my staff. The stairs creaked dangerously underneath my boots, a jump in the air saving me from a painful fall as the steps crumbled. Landing on the metal railing, my boots clanged against the metal with every step. A ghost was in trouble, the scene shifting around me. Demy caught up to me, the inside of the house rewinding back in time. Pristine walls with ornate wallpaper greeted me, Demy letting out a long sigh.
“We are trapped in another time bubble.” He groaned to himself, rubbing his forehead. “We know the only way out is to kill the ghost who brought us here. This bubble reeks of something else though. Can you smell the sulfur?” Sniffing the air, he wasn’t wrong. Hiding me underneath the staircase, my breath hitched at his body pressed against mine. A man with chocolate brown hair and caramel eyes landed inches from us, blood pouring from his eyes. A child’s scream snapped me from my horror filled trance, a thirteen year old girl ran by us with her long brown waves flying behind her. A shadow figure chased after her, a jagged blade sliding through her chest. Watching the ruby drops hit the floor, the worn wooden handle became stained with her blood. Dropping to the floor, her hand reached for me. The demon snapped its head towards us, rows of bloody fangs clicked together. Spinning his blade in his palm, his wrist flicked abruptly, Demy’s back caught the blade, his scythe charm glowing red hot. Pushing the knife out with his muscles, the charm grew to its full size. Ravens cawed behind him, the bracelet turning back into his top hat. Scarlet flames twisted with golden flames, the feathers floating behind me. Cocking his head back, crazed laughter burst from his lips.
“You are going to have to find me first.” He taunted cruelly, clapping his hands. “I will never let you claim my home.” Demy narrowed his eyes in his direction, the annoyance disappearing into the floor. Coming out of our hiding spot, jazz music played outside. Creeping around the corner, my flames died down for a second. A pile of bright yellow liquid coated the spot he went through, Demy crouching down to examine it.
“He is ancient.” He grumbled under his breath, his kind gaze watched me take in the information. “The brighter the sulfur the older they are.” Feeling stupid for not understanding him, the solution wasn’t obvious to me. Shifting uncomfortably, no words came to the tip of my tongue. The ghost of the girl floated over to me, tears flowing endlessly down her cheeks. Her hair floated up behind her, her quaking hands gripping her ragged nightgown. Her milky eyes met mine, surprise rounding her eyes at my outreached hand.
“We are going to get rid of him for you. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can free you because of the whole murder thing. Maybe we can find your father.” I offered sincerely, her icy hands cupping mine. “We can turn on the television for you every now and then. I’ll even cook your favorite foods so you can smell them. The one thing you have to do is help me out. Can you do that?” The spirit of the father floated around the corner, his snow white hair danced wildly. Fixing his mustache, his milky eyes fell on us. Dusting off his suit, he cleared his throat. Holding out his hand, I gave it one good firm shake.
“I am Mr. Smillet and that is my daughter Milly. We would love to help you.” He introduced himself politely, ruffling his daughter’s hair. “Unfortunately, we can’t leave because of an eternal curse on the land but your idea sounds lovely. Let’s make this place a home once more.” Floating through the floor, his head popped up through the center of the hole.
“This is going to sound backwards but he is in the attic.” He chirped warmly, pulling himself out. “We will lead the way.” Walking past the photos of them, the nineteen twenties raged outside. Stopping at the attic door, they took a step back. Thanking them silently, we pushed the door open. Pressing our backs against the wall, the stairs creaked with every step. Glancing behind me, the door slammed shut behind us. The only light flickered, my heart seconds from beating out of my chest. Pop! A sea of darkness swallowed us, cold breezes lashing our cheeks. Summoning my flames, my heart sank into the pit of my stomach at his face inches from mine. Slamming my heel into his chest, he smashed into the wall. Climbing the stairs, I kicked a pile of boxes down the stairs. Spinning my scythe over my head, balls of flames whipped in his direction. Stopping them before they hit him, he raised his hand over his head. Hundreds of those damn daggers spun over his head, my metal feathers destroying them upon impact. Snapping his fingers, cold hands smashed through the floorboards. Slicing my palm on an exposed nail, Demy seemed to be dealing with his own problems. Smearing my hand on the wall, the scent was enough for me to summon my pets. Whistling sharply, the attic door rattled violently. Wet snarls echoed on the other side, my three pets taking him down to the ground. Pulling his gun from his pocket, Demy towered over the howling demon. Pressing his gun to his forehead, his finger tugged on the trigger. His bullet burst from the end, his body decaying to ash. My pets bounded up to me, their tails wagging a mile a minute. Rubbing their bellies, they melted into puddles.
“Who are good doggies!” I spoke with my dog mom’s voice, tongues licking my face left and right. The time bubble still remained, my eyes narrowing. Something felt off, a glowing orb bounced in the corner. Walking over to it cautiously, the ball of light floated into my clammy palm. Tears welled up in my eyes, the spirit was her mother. The real reason the time bubble existed was because of her, her soul purpose had been served. She stayed behind to protect them, one more thing stopping her.
“I need you to promise to take care of them.” She spoke gently, the orb floating in the air. “I can’t stay here because I dragged myself outside of the property line. I need to know that they will be okay.” Drops of light hit the floor, sobs bounced off the wall. Demy embraced me from behind, his chin resting on my head. Flashing the orb with his crooked grin, the drops of light slowed to a halt.
“We vow to give them a lovely afterlife. I was thinking we could give them the attic.” He promised sincerely, kissing the top of my head. “We can furnish the space as they wish. Then they can hang out with us downstairs. How does that sound?” Thinking for a minute, the orb floated into the sky. The time bubble glitched, a dusty attic greeting us. Pressing my palm to the splintered floor, a bright light blinded us. Covering his eyes, the light died down. Pristine floors brushed against my palm, a neat bedroom pleased me. The simple furniture would do, a picture of the girl's family hung on the wall. Running downstairs, the two spirits waited on the other side of the door. Opening the door for them, I motioned for them to go on up. Gasps of wonder bounced off the wall, my eyes scanning the scarlet walls. The hall seemed empty, my fingers tracing the one ancient mirror. Demy’s jaw dropped, my finger picking it up.
“If I can heal living things I can bring inanimate objects back to life.” I bragged with a wide grin, poking it to see if it was real. “I didn’t think I could do this well. We do have to get some furniture though. I could only manifest theirs because it had existed at one point. Do you like it?” Parting his lips to speak, a distraught woman sprinted in. One of our marks entered the hall, I put my foot out. Not seeing my foot, his face smashed onto the floor. Pressing my staff into his back, he put his hands up. The silky onyx hair contrasted the restored wooden floors, my three dogs surrounding him.
“If you move a fucking muscle you'll become dog chow.” I snapped hotly, flaming feathers hovered over him. “Tell me why you were cha-” My face dead panned at my former colleague charging at me with a haunted expression. Grabbing her by the arm, I tossed her over my head. The floor groaned in protest, the boards repairing themselves. Examining her closer, her eyes were ruby. Her lilac waves cascaded down her back, the white frilly Lolita dress hugged her petite body. A diamond collar sparkled on her neck, my eyes falling on the inky stain spreading on the white lace. Sniffing the air, I let them both go. A nasty bugger limped down the hall, a curved lilac blade quivered in his sludgy back. Demy raised his scythe, his ravens cawing behind him. Harsh winds blew our hair around, my flames roaring to life. Crouching down to their level, I yanked both of the heads up by their hair.
“If I help you, you join my army. No ifs, and or buts.” I barked sternly, the two of them nodding. “Sit back and watch the show.” Resting against the wall, her master fussed over her. Spinning my staff over my head, flaming feathers landed in the body. Demy leapt over my head, his scythe cutting into the body. The demon roared, horror rounding our eyes as it absorbed our power. Opening up its mouth, a wall of lilacs blocked its path. An idea came to mine, the flames of the burning lilacs illuminating my features.
“We need to hit it with everything we have.” I whispered so it wouldn’t hear, bewildered expressions meeting my determined grin. “You have trust in me.” Allowing my powers to build up at the top of my staff, Demy’s pure power built at the end of his scythe. Swinging our weapons at the same time, a rush of hot air blew our hair back. Taking the mirror off the wall, I held it in front of us. Let’s see how much power he could take. Demy held me by my hips in preparation for the impact. Absorbing the power as I had planned, a beam of our power slid us back a few feet. The beam hit him, the cracks beginning to form on his skin. Absorbing the doubled energy, he blasted the mirror again. The frame creaked, the beam striking the mirror once more. Demy held me down with all of his strength. The game of tennis continued until the energy decayed him into a pile of ash. Lowering the mirror, the house repaired itself. Demy huffed behind me, his arm spinning me around. Kissing me hungrily, he seemed grateful that I was alive. Crouching down to her level, Demy’s top hat absorbed his scythe and ravens.
“Where is she wounded? I won’t hurt her. I want to heal her.” I assured him kindly, the fellow demon taking a step back. “Do you mind?” Lifting up her dress, a nasty spike stuck out of her back. Ripping it out, she cussed like a sailor. Hovering my hand over the gaping wound, her muscle fused back together. Watching her skin patch itself, a nasty scar throbbed underneath my touch. Demy kicked her blade over, her trembling fingers gripping the worn leather hilt with raw terror.
“You must be Davidos Darth and Lilac Mattson. These two defected a couple of years ago.” Demy explained calmly, the petite woman embracing me graciously. “They were just hunted down by one of her sludgy monsters. The Golden Lion must be after you. The question is why.” A two year old girl peeked out from around the corner, her lilac waves grazing the floor. A white summer dress floated away from her body, her ruby eyes falling on me. A bright smile illuminated Lilac’s purple lips, the girl’s purple lips curling into a matching smile.
“Mommy!” She cried out, Lilac tossing me to the floor as she caught her daughter. “I am glad you are safe. I hid in my invisibility bubble like you told me too. Who is the pretty lady?” Crouching down to her level, I held out my hand.
“I am Scarlet Deaclon, your mother’s best friend. How do you feel about living here? Is that alright with your mother?” I inquired sweetly, her face lighting up. “I can’t have you guys running like that. I will put a protection spell on the house if it makes you feel better. Us defectors have to stick together.” Silent tears stained Lilac’s cheek, Davidos seemed seconds from crying.
“Seriously, I can’t have you guys on the street. Fight with me and we can have a miniature family.” I continued jovially, ruffling the girl’s beautiful hair. “I can also babysit if you need it.” Lilac began to sob, several fresh cuts and bruises caught my eyes.
“Why are you being so nice?” She wept softly, wiping away her tears. “I don’t deserve it. We left in s-” Putting my hand in the air, confusion mixed with sadness. Cupping her face, she quaked underneath my touch.
“She is the best reason to leave.” I comforted her kindly, my three dogs bounding up to the little girl. “Don’t worry they don’t bite. What’s her name?” Oreo, Stripes, and Darkness smothered her in love, the girl's giggles twinkled in the air. The four of them played as Davidos helped Lilac to her feet, Demy pacing back and forth. An irritated growl rumbled in his throat, a hand on his shoulder calming him down. He had to know that we needed allies, his lips brushing against the top of my head. Fishing around his pocket, a worn pocket knife sat in my palm. Cutting the blade across my palm, my eyes watched the blood pool. Drawing a powerful protection spell on the wall, the house rattled the moment I slammed my palm onto the wall. A golden dome hummed to life around the house. Mouthing a silent spell, five necklaces appeared in my palms. Golden feathers dangled off of the golden chains, no words being said as I passed them out.
“These will protect you when you leave the house.” I informed them with my real smile, dropping the necklace over the little girl’s head. “This should increase your ability to become invisible.” Clearing her throat, she stood in the attention position. Holding her head up high, Demy grinned at her proud stance.
“I am Lavender.” She introduced herself boldly, cupping my hands. “I vow to be your ally.” Chuckling softly to myself, my hand fell to my stomach absentmindedly. Hoping my kid was this awesome, hope glittered in her eyes. Demy spun me on my heels, placing my necklace over my head. Hooking his elbow in mine, he glanced back with concern.
“We are going to pick up some grub. Is pizza okay?” He asked with his crooked grin, their heads nodding. “We will be right back.” Guiding me out the door, our neighbors stared at us long and hard. Waving to them, they waved back awkwardly. Letting the moonlight bathe me, he spun me around. Holding me by the small of my waist, scarlet colored my cheeks.
“Did you see that adorable little girl? Do you think ours will be as awesome?” He mused playfully, kissing my lips feverishly. A goofy look dawned on my face, the feather necklace I made glittered on his shirt. Following my gaze, he fiddled with the magical charm.
“I would be a fool not to wear what my wife made for me.” He continued happily, his hand sliding down to my slight bump. Getting onto his knees, his lips brushed against the surface. Hugging my bump, a deeper crimson rose to my cheeks. People watched with warm smiles, the older couples holding each other tighter. Rising to his feet, he hooked his elbow in mine. Making me feel like the lead in a romance novel, pride swelled in his eyes. Walking me to the local pizza place, a warmth came over me. A shadow figure darted in the distance, the serenity leaving my mind. What the hell was that?

Sperm counts have fallen by 52% in the past five decades, and the decline appears to be accelerating. Environmental and reproductive epidemiologist Dr Shanna Swan has discovered that chemicals that can interfere with the body's hormones, such as phthalates found in personal care products, fragrances, plastics, and dust, and BPAs found in plastics, are among those affecting the development of baby boys via the mother's exposure in early pregnancy. 2023.06.07 13:53 papabear513 The Experiments Beneath Green Haven Penitentiary
I stared up at the magazine cut out of a Maxim model that was crudely pasted on the underside of the top bunk. Her pert breast shimmied ever so slightly as Pete tossed and turned above.
She was platinum blonde with legs long enough to wrap around me twice. Or so the camera angle made it seem. I felt a stirring below, that yearning for a woman’s touch… which I hadn’t felt in six years, three months, and eleven days.
I rolled to my side, stifling it. It was the wrong time to seek out an orgasm, and I knew after the release I’d just spiral into self-loathing anyway. I focused on a crack in the cinder block until my eyelids became heavy.
Static pushed the thought of women from my mind as I slipped into sleep. The smell of cigars and oil flitted through my mind in a memory. My dad’s repair shop. The one I was meant to take over, before the arrest…
------
“Aaaarrgghh!”
A cry echoing from somewhere deep within the prison startled me awake. My heart thundered in my chest like a rabbit thrashing against its cage.
I rolled over to see Pete crouching low, his face pressed against the bars.
“What’s going on?” I croaked.
“They’re taking Benny.” He whispered.
“Fuck, really?” I pulled myself to the top corner of my mattress, just enough to peer around the edge of the bars.
Two guards wrestled the young latino onto a gurney as a man in a lab coat watched from a distance. He fought against them but it was futile. Once the straps were locked in he screamed once more, pleading for help.
Dozens of eyes watched from dim lit cells, none of which stirring to offer assistance in the slightest. We knew there was no helping him. We knew what happened next…
His cries were muffled as the doctor jammed a syringe into the base of his neck. Benny’s muscles tensed and pulsed in the fit of a seizure, but then lay still. The cell block was silent once more as they wheeled him down the hall and into the catacombs.
I did a cross over myself but didn’t bother to pray. Once they took them, they never came back.
“A damn shame…” I muttered.
“Yeah, he was a good kid…” Pete stood and leapt back onto the top bunk.
A fire burned in my chest. I wanted to say something. To cry out about the injustice of what was happening to us. That committing a crime shouldn’t damn a man to whatever terrible fate they had instore for us below three feet of steel and a quarter mile of dirt.
But I didn’t… What good could it do? Other than drawing attention to me in a very negative way.
Once they took you to the lab, you were never seen again.
All you could do was hope that your number was never called, and that you got out of here before they visited your cell late into the night.
—-----
87…88…89…90…
My chest was on fire as sweat dripped from the tip of my nose. I couldn’t go back to sleep last night. Kept thinking about Benny.
91…92…93…
So began the push-ups. It was the only way to clear my head.
94…95…96…
My therapy.
97…98…99…100.
I rolled to my back, out of breath.
Three years, six months and change.
So much time left to go.
Benny had only been here for a little over a year. It made no sense…
None of us could figure out exactly why they took who they took. There seemed to be no method to the madness.
Just a couple weeks ago they took old man Tom Finch. He’d been here longer than any of us. A lifer on the account of premeditated murder back in the 70s. But they didn’t come for him until he’d served most of his adult life behind bars.
The red beacon suddenly swirled above. A buzzing sound hummed as the cell doors clicked and slid open.
Breakfast.
—----
I pulled my tray along the bar to be loaded with oats, powdered eggs and bread.
Meager rations.
I grabbed a small carton of milk and made my way over to sit with Pete. He was already nibbling on his toast while perusing a crossword puzzle.
We exchanged nods and I went to devouring the entirety of my plate.
Calories build muscle after all.
Which was something Pete had no interest in. He was a bookworm through and through. Rail thin too. When we’d met, I’d assumed it was from the drug problem he’d had on the outside, which ultimately landed him in incarceration. But come to find out it was just his metabolism and general lack of appetite.
“John…” He whispered.
I looked up from my feast.
He was looking to the corner of the cafeteria and I followed his gaze to see two men in lab coats surveying the crowd.
I grunted and squeezed the handle of my fork until my knuckles went white. The impulse of burying it into their throats was almost overwhelming.
“Their activity has been ramping up.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve been seeing them much more frequently as of late. They must be close to a breakthrough.”
“Breakthrough of what?” I furrowed my brow.
“Who knows? Whatever it is they are doing down there. They’ve been taking us more often as well.”
Pete sighed at the twist of confusion on my face.
“Think about it… Benny last night, then Tom two weeks before that. Then Eric ten days before that, and Deonte maybe three weeks prior. It’s never been that close together. Until recently, they only came perhaps once every other month. Sometimes only once a season.”
Shit… he was right. I hadn’t realized it before.
“So what does that mean?” I asked, shoving another hunk of egg into my mouth.
“I have no idea. But I’d say our odds of survival have been reduced dramatically.”
—-----
Pete might as well have been an oracle, peering into our grim and desolate future.
Over the next several months we started seeing the lab coats weekly. Sometimes even more often than that.
The prison yard felt empty. Sure there were still plenty of us left, but our population had been noticeably trimmed. One gang in particular only had two members left, which didn’t bode well for them. The others slowly circled them like sharks. I had no affiliation with any of them and kept to myself. But still, I could see their fate a mile away.
Although, despite the business as usual dog eat dog atmosphere, there was an undercurrent of fear rippling through the general pop. You could smell it, like a scent of decay and desperation. Hard faces that had once promised violence, now almost flinched around every corner and jumped at each shadow.
The energy of a couple of hundred men that felt like an animal backed into a corner was palpable.
But what could we do?
I didn’t know but I sure wish someone would tell me… I threw myself into my workouts and Pete hardly ever looked up from a book. Escapism was our only reprieve.
I went to bed with a prayer on my lips, hoping I wouldn’t hear those iron bars moving in the late hours of the night.
—-----
A loud clanking followed by footsteps pulled me from sleep.
I squeezed my eyes tightly shut hoping it was the cell next to mine.
But it wasn’t…
Three guards hovered behind a fourth that was unlocking our cell. The bars clicked and began to slide open.
I jumped to my feet and backed up against the wall. I pulled my fists up into a boxing stance, I wasn’t going to go without a fight. My muscles tensed and flexed like coiled steel.
“In the corner inmate! We’re here for your cellmate.” A short and stocky corrections officer barked with his hand gripping the baton at his waist.
Pete squirmed into a ball at the corner of his mat and looked at me with wide, pleading eyes.
I put my face in the opposite corner as instructed. A mixture of fear and relief roiled in my gut, and I hated myself for it. It made me feel like a coward.
“No, no, no, no, no!” I heard Pete squeal from behind as guards flooded the cell.
I peaked over my shoulder and watched as they pried him from the top bunk. Pete tried to resist, but there was nothing to him. A bag of bones that they easily wrestled down.
That same fire ignited in my chest. Anger washed over me, cleansing away the cowardice. For God’s sake, he was my only friend.
All I could see was red.
I spun around bringing the back of my fist across a guard’s face, shattering the bridge of his nose. Blood spurted from it as he dropped Pete’s legs.
With a giant step forward I brought an uppercut into the portly officer’s abdomen, dropping him like a ton of bricks.
I shoved a third into the corner, pinning him there as I screamed for Pete to run. He scampered out the opening and the last thing I heard were his footfalls as a baton smashed across the back of my skull. Everything went black before I even hit the ground.
—-----
I spent a month in solitary.
The room was so small it should have been inhumane to house a human being inside of it.
Still… I made the best of it with dips, pushups and situps. Countless reps of them. It was all I could do.
Some mornings I’d wake up with horrible migraines. I assumed it was a slight concussion from the impact of the baton.
I only hoped Pete could have somehow made it out. But somewhere deep down I knew that would have been impossible. Hopefully he at least gave them some hell before they took him below.
I stopped praying before bed. It didn’t seem like it did any good.
If there was a God, he didn’t exist inside these walls.
We were abandoned.
The unheard.
—-------
When I finally got back to my cell it had been emptied of everything. Pete’s books, artwork from his niece and even my Maxim cutout.
Just like he’d never existed. My heart sunk at the sight.
Later that day I’d learned from others that he had been captured just moments after escaping the cell.
But our actions weren’t wasted in vain.
We were the first to fight back against the abduction and it sparked something in the others.
They started talks of an uprising a few weeks back. A prison riot.
They even had a guard on the inside. C.O. Matthews. He was a very religious man and was just as horrified by what was happening as we were and had been looking for a way to help.
“It’s going down tonight John, just before lights out. Be ready.” Jerry whispered at the picnic table.
I gave a nod that I understood and headed off for my daily jog around the courts.
It wasn’t about getting out. Getting free. That wasn’t going to happen. It was about sending a message.
I let my mind go blank, filling with static as I enjoyed what could be my last day outside.
—------
The beacon swirled overhead in the common area.
“Inmates to their cells. Lights out.” The intercom buzzed.
There were over fifty men in cell block B, and not a single one of us moved.
The voice on the intercom repeated himself angrily as guards began to shuffle in closer. Nods passed like dominoes from one inmate to the next. We were ready.
“Get to your cell inmate.” a guard growled as he clamped his hands down on my shoulders.
I threw an elbow behind me into his groin, he howled in pain as he hit the floor. The other inmates sprung to their feet and flew off from their leaning places to join in the brawl.
Fists, feet and batons flew wildly across the cell block as we engaged in war with the uniformed officers.
I grappled with one until I was able to submit him in a choke until he went limp in my arms.
I stomped another in the face, spilling blood and brains on the concrete floor.
It had looked like we were winning until they sent the special response team in. We formed a line, many of us battered and bloody, in front of the row of riot shields.
We waited for their charge for what felt like an eternity.
But suddenly they backed out from where they’d come and slid the cell block doors closed.
What the hell…
The red beacon swirled once again overhead as a clicking sounded out behind us.
The rear entrance that the lab coats had always used swung open. I spun around to see…
“Mary, mother of God.” I gasped.
It was Pete…
But there was something horribly wrong with him.
His skin clung loosely to his body and had a terrible jaundice looking hue to it. His eyes almost seemed to glow and his hands… they were impossibly large like contorted branches.
I held my hand up to my mouth in disbelief.
A scientist stepped out from behind him.
“As you can see, we have a few kinks left to iron out, but we are making great progress. Would you all care to see what he can do?” He looked into each of our eyes inquisitively.
“If you don’t, head back to your cells now. You have ten seconds and then I shall release him.”
It was so silent you could hear a pin drop. But a violent and hungry energy filled the room, emanating from what used to be my friend.
Suddenly, over half the remaining inmates bolted for their cells out of fear. Not that I could blame them, my knees wobbled and threatened to buckle just at the sight of him.
But I stood my ground, as did a handful of others.
“Very well then. Specimen 3-1-0, engage.”
A growl reverberated through the cell block.
“Everyone rush him at once! It’s our only shot.” I hollered.
And we did, but it didn’t matter. It happened so fast. It was over before I could even comprehend it.
He moved like an animal, picking each of us apart almost in unison.
I lay on my back, unable to feel my legs as I watched Jerry be disemboweled. He was trying to shove his intestines back inside the tear in his abdomen before the creature came back to finish him off.
I did a cross over myself but didn’t bother to pray.
As Pete stood over me, with dead eyes, I knew there was no God.
He didn’t exist inside these walls.
We were abandoned.
The unheard.

2023.06.07 08:07 richi-carmen Just how to make the timber pellet mills mold much more " durability"
| In recent years, the environmental protection plans of different nations have actually ended up being a growing number of rigorous. As a representative of new energy, biomass pellets have gradually ended up being popular, and also biomass pellets in numerous areas have actually also remained in short supply. Together with biomass pellets, there are likewise sawdust pellet equipments that produce biomass pellets. From the initial level die timber pellet equipment to the present ring die wood pellet mills, they are frequently being updated. https://preview.redd.it/8gacimymej4b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50b101470d70fd2790d34b7371da5b84687cdb14 1. Exactly how to extend the life span of wood pellet mills mold and mildew? The mold is a susceptible component in the sawdust timber pellet mills, and also it requires to be changed continuously. The costly mold and mildew is also a significant price in the production procedure of the sawdust pellet. Just how to raise the life span of biomass timber pellet mills mold? ( 1) Load the mold with oil After the daily handling and production is over, make use of oil to grind the mold and mildew opening for a time period to make certain that all oil is left in the mold and mildew opening, which is of fantastic advantage to the next day's job and is likewise conducive to the long-lasting use of the mold and mildew. ( 2) Routinely clean up the oil The editor right here advises everybody that if the timber pellet mills are not utilized for greater than a month, it is best to secure the oil in the mold. Because the oil will slowly set throughout the long-term storage space process, which will certainly make it tough to get rid of the following time it is made use of, which will certainly impact the succeeding use of the timber pellet mills. Related post: wood pellet mill cost ( 3) It is not necessary to clean the mold for a long period of time If the timber pellet mills are not used for a long period of time, it is recommended to eliminate the mold, tidy it and afterwards save it. It mainly cleans the pellets inside the mold and mildew and the sawdust connected to the surface of the mold and mildew. This way, on the one hand, it prevents the pellets from being solidified and also hard to remove due to long-lasting storage, and also on the other hand, it lowers the deterioration of sawdust to the mold and mildew. https://preview.redd.it/ay2zd6fnej4b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9844a48db28f68c8200fb3719eba86e0a7ed7776 ( 4) The mold and mildew ought to be saved in a completely dry and also aerated place The majority of the mold and mildews of the wood pellet mills are made of alloy steel. If they remain in a moist area for a very long time, the surface area of the mold may be damaged because of deterioration as well as its service life will be decreased. ( 5) The taking care of process ought to be very carefully The mold and mildew of the wood pellet mills is a high-precision device. If the structure of the inner wall of the die opening is harmed during the taking care of procedure, it might cause the failing of the wood pellet maker and reduce the service life of the timber pellet device. The above are 5 pointers to prolong the life span of the timber pellet equipment. Follow these 5 approaches to keep the mold, as well as I believe your mold and mildew will last longer. Related post: wood pellet plant 2. Just how to solve the blockage of the mold of the wood pellet mill maker? With the popularization of the idea of environmental protection and saving, timber pellet device is acknowledged and accepted by increasingly more clients, and also occupies an increasingly vital placement in our manufacturing. Nevertheless, in the process of utilizing the complete wood pellet mill device, there are constantly various troubles. Today, Richi Equipment will certainly present to you how to fix the obstruction of the mold of the timber pellet mills tools. If you need to know the service to the trouble, you should initially locate the reason for the problem, and to resolve the issue of blockage of the wood pellet device, you have to discover the reason for the obstruction of the timber pelleting maker. The major factors for the obstruction of the sawdust timber pellet mills mold are as adheres to: 1. The feed of the wood pellet mills is also quick as well as the output is as well slow-moving. Remedy: Replace the die of the wood pelletizer maker, or decrease the feed price. 2. The raw materials have contaminations, such as nails, bricks, etc. Remedy: Turn off the wood pellet mills devices, after that open up the mold and mildew cover, after that pour out the extruded raw material, clean out the impurities in the raw material, and placed the raw material back. Keep in mind: When replacing the mold cover, tighten the nut. 3. Improper control of basic material moisture, or excessive particle dimension, and so on, will certainly also trigger obstruction of the timber pellet mills mold and mildew, and also hand-operated cleansing is very difficult. https://preview.redd.it/r3m9jn2oej4b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=156e308a74ede988e94b4faca12d7e39559ed614 Remedy: Big makers will get special needs punching holes, but for new friends who have actually just invested in wood pellet production, die obstructing is a migraine. 4. During the production process, because of power failure or other factors, the mold and mildew is obstructed, particularly the small-diameter mold and mildew is tough to tidy. Boring the material with a power drill is a lot more typical in wood pellet production equipment, however this is time consuming and often tends to damage the smoothness of the die holes. Moreover, after the die is punched, it needs to be re-ground prior to it can be made use of usually, which influences the work effectiveness. Remedy: A a lot more reliable method is to utilize oil to steam the ring die, so that the plug opening is totally immersed in the oil and afterwards heat the bottom of the oil frying pan till the product in the plug opening makes a popping sound, i.e. get rid of the plugging die, re-install the machine after cooling, Adjust the void of the die rolls, according to the operation requirements of the timber pellet mills, the product in the blocked die can be quickly cleansed by re-driving. submitted by richi-carmen to pelletmachinery [link] [comments] |
