2023.06.09 06:20 StiffButtFudge B48 Oil Filter Housing Replacement

Hello, I am replacing the Oil Filter Housing on my B48 330i this weekend, and youtube is pretty sparse when it come to quality footage for the process, I have a friend who has provided shop manuals for the process, so I feel rather confident.
However I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a tool list specifically for the oil filter housing as far as what drive depths/extension lengths/and ratchet will make this process the easiest for removing the 4 necessary bolts, thank you! ( I am going to attempt the route that does not require removing the manifold)

2023.06.09 06:07 keepermovin69 P0175 and P0172

I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado LT with about 160k miles. Check engine light came on, and I used my obd2 scanner to find p0172 and p0175 codes (system too rich). I viewed live data at idle and while it was being driven and the long term fuel trim from both banks was -30% at idle and while coasting, but went up to single digits when accelerating or at highway speed. Short term fuel trim for both banks was single digits (normal). I changed the air filter and checked for air intake blockages and that didn’t change anything. Spark plugs were all replaced about 6 months ago. O2 sensors are reading at normal voltages according to my scanner. MAF sensor was taken out and blown off with some canned air.
Not sure what’s causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

2023.06.09 05:40 YaBoiTrevor Need Mechanical Advice

I’m fairly handy and have done plenty of labor, but I grew up in the country with a pretty rural property that didn’t require mowing so I’m not very mechanical. I recently moved into a rental house and it came with a self-propelled push mower. Landlord said it hasn’t been used in ~2 years. Looks in good condition, but I couldn’t get it to start.
For fuel, so far I have taken the carburetor out and cleaned it well with Sea Foam, replaced old cracked/dry gasket, replaced old fuel line, put in new gas with Sea Foam, replaced air filter, and replaced oil. I don’t know much but the carburetor itself looks in fine condition.
I also replaced the spark plug and did a test by grounding against the edge of the motor and couldn’t get a spark, so I am thinking maybe it is an electrical issue out of my league.
Any ideas of what the problem could be? Is it worth trying more from an expense standpoint, or are further fixes increasingly expensive? We could just buy an old lawn mower off Facebook or something for relatively cheap, so I’m just wondering how much effort I should invest.

Need opinions
Need some input on this car listed for 16k CAD. Was looking at buying something with an n54 to modify myself as a first project car but I found this. What would be some areas of concern or things to look out for if I were to purchase this? Any help is appreciated.
Also if anyone has some input on the cars value thatd be helpful as well. From what I’ve seen it seems like a good deal in Canada considering other e9x n54s are going for around the same with a tune+dp and not many supporting mods.

2023.06.09 04:54 concav22 2014 Infiniti Q50 AWD needs new engine after recent service. Kindly looking for any insights.

As the title says, I had a relatively intensive service on my car 3 months ago and after a road trip last weekend I need a new engine.
I purchased my AWD 2014 Q50s 3.7 from the dealership in 2017. The car had been a lease w ~17k miles and I have put another 63k in that time; odometer at 80k. I have been timely with service, only taken it to the dealership for maintenance, had an extended warranty, etc. It has been great up until about 3 months ago.
In March, I received a Chassis Control System error. My car would start for a second and then sputter-out, so I got it towed to the dealership. After dissecting the engine, they said ‘the cam sensor signals weren’t lining up’ and ‘the intake cam sprockets jumped time and prevented the engine from starting’. They then replaced the parts luckily just weeks from the expiration of the extended warranty. The car was running just fine up until a road trip this past weekend.
After about 3 hours on the road my check engine light came on and the car could no-longer surpass 2500 rpm (ie: ‘limp mode’). Got an oil change and powered through the last 6 hours home by keeping under 2500 rpm/75mph. I take it to the dealership and come to find out I need a new engine as there are ‘shards of engine metal’ all throughout, including the oil pan. Not my favorite news of the day. Quoted $13k for a new engine, damn near the value of the car.
What I am questioning is: 1) how through consistent service at the same dealership would this not be noticed in the past? and 2) should this not have been caught during the March servicing that was covered by the now-expired extended warranty? Bummed because that car was paid off, I’m moving out-of-state in a month and do not want to take-on a car payment at this time. Any guidance or expertise as to my next steps would be greatly appreciated!

I have a set of oil cooler lines for my Chevy Blazer 98 RWD. The package ripped open and I can see a little rust inside the metal tubes. Should I just buy new lines again?

2023.06.09 04:27 TheBrain511 10th Gen Civic 1.5T vs 2.0

Looking around for a new car to replace my old 2007 chevy aveo. Currently looking at getting a honda civic ex or the sport models . The models would be used one ex model looking at is from 2017 while the sport is from 2019. both are under 80k miles and no accident according to car fax. Only a mechanic will actually be able to tell itf it legit but thought i would throw it out there.
I've done a bit of research honestly feel like the 2.0 just seems more reliable long term.
Background around me im an auditor for my state so I do travel alot for work I would say 20 to 34 miles give or take which some of the longer trips being an hour away.
Although i will be getting work at home privileges in October so my travel to the office which is 20 minutes away from my house would be reduced although it would depend on if i get the information i need electronically or not
Outside of that Im ahomebodyy honestly I pickup groceries, orthodontist, go out to bars with my friends on the weekends not alot though.
Been thinking of getting back into doordash as a side hustle but getting realtors license would be a better use of my time than waring my car down doing that
I live in Indiana so it can get extremely hot and extremely cold Im not in the hilly part of my state its pretty flat
With my current car do get my maintenance done regularly given the car isn't exactly economically friendly at all honestly just sucking me like a leech and with my job requiring travel a new car is necessary figured go with one of the most reliable brands out there
I plan on owning the car for the next 10 years hopefully or well until the wheels fall off. Dont plan on doing any mods no tunes only thing i would change out honestly would be the radio and installing a joying radio.
I've read that 1.5 have issues of oil dilution although it seems to have gotten better with 2019 and beyond and the AC system kinda ironic the ac system would be bad on a modern car but those are two basic issues ive seen where it caused people to sell their civics or pay thousands in repairs
I havent read to many issues with the transmission seems good on that front but if anyone has dealt with issues with transmission i would like to hear about it.

2023.06.09 03:57 cc_esseintes Prius 2010 Considerations

I’m hoping to get my first Prius soon, but still looking.
One option is a 2010 Prius IV with a mileage of 175.827.
Although I know the 2010 is known for engine issues, I verified that the head gasket has been replaced (along with new spark plugs and air filters).
The hybrid battery has been replaced with a refurbished one from 2012.
Recent throttle body service and EGR service.
Since 2010 regular oil changes until present day.
It’s selling for $8,999
Should I go for it?

2023.06.09 03:53 sjoel92 My new (to me) 98 CL500

My new (to me) 98 CL500
Picked this 102k mile C140 last month and have been absolutely loving it coming from serial BMW ownership (M5s and 7s). Many, many mods are coming down the line, just finishing up the last of the mechanical refresh from the car being in long term storage for a few years. So far, I’ve done: tires (not keeping the CL65 wheels long term), rear window regulator, belt tensioner that had a failed housing when doing the regulator, swapped cam oiler tubes for early aluminum items, VCGs, oil pressure switch, plugs/coils, and repaired the front bumper brackets. Yet to do: trans/diff service, fuel filtepump, mototrans mounts, all 4 struts and mounts and new control arms/tie rod/steering damper, have to pull and reupholster headliner (have actual Alcantara branded foam backed anthracite fabric inbound), rebuild both PSE pumps, new radio (debating a Sony RSX-GS9 and the new Blaupunkt Frankfurt), and a few various trim pieces in and out. Please forgive my low quality pre-fix pictures (took them the day I drove it 400 miles home). Any other W/C140 folks active on the sub?

2023.06.09 03:25 mtnlife991 Hyundai 3.3 Oil Pressure Sensor

2016 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 3.3L. Oil light started flickering today. Installed a mechanical gauge in the oil filter cap and am getting 16psi hot idle, and ample pressure at any rpm above that. Seems to be the sensor is bad.
Book time is showing around 2 hours. My question is, do the fuel rails have to be removed in order to access that sensor? Alldata shows a picture of the sensor with the rails removed and says to use a deep socket w/universal for replacement. But with the rails in place it looks impossible to access. Any Hyundai/Kia techs that can confirm this?

2023.06.09 02:44 lukedelmarwebb Spark, fuel, air... no start

Hello, I'm having a bit of an issue with a 4 cylinder 96 chevy s10. Was running rough/stalling at idle when I bought it. Previous owner had just replaced head gasket. About half way home it broke down and required tow. Since then I've replaced fuel filter. I have spark at all 4 plugs, and the starter cranks. Even after spraying starter fluid into the butterfly valve, I can't seem to get the engine going for even a few seconds. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

2023.06.09 02:25 zombienutz1 Motor Medic Advice

I don't typically believe in "mechanic in a bottle" stuff just as much as the next guy (except for Seafoam and Marvel) BUT I tried some Motor Medic after reading reviews and watching a few videos. So my 1999 Suburban with Vortec 350 @ 232K miles had 0 oil pressure at idle after driving for about 15 minutes. Before I dropped the front diff and pan I decided to try Motor Medic since that engine is pretty durable. Made sure my oil was full, put the MM in, idled it for 7-8 minutes, changed the oil/filter, and then went for a drive to warm it up. Came back after 15 minutes and she idled at 18 PSI. Let it idle while I dicked around for another 10 and still sitting at 18 PSI. Drove it today on the highway for about 30 minutes and idled at 18 PSI afterwards. Not sure if anyone else has had a good experience with this stuff but I'd recommend it.
TLDR: Used Motor Medic for 0 oil pressure at idle in a Vortec 350 and it fixed (at least temporarily) the issue.
